mate 9 internal memory 11GB for firmware - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Guys have you noticed internal storage on the phone has 11GB occupied by the firmware . any way we can clean this ? i think 11GB just for firmwre is a bit overkill

For reference the Oneplus 3t has just about the same amount reserved for the system. Whether or not it's overkill is irrelevant. There's no way to easily adjust this. Don't forget that you have expandable storage so it's not a big deal.

I have to agree. 11Gb still leaves a huge amount of storage available especially if you store all your media on a removable SD card.
I was using a Galaxy S7 Edge with 32Gb internal memory. With Gear VR apps and games, it was a challenge to keep free space above 2Gb! But I managed just fine.

16gb and 32gb

What's the difference in performance between the two?
Also, why is it 16 and 32? Does this have to do with the binary number stuff

gb refers to storage size. 16 gigabytes and 32 gigabytes..
That I know. What I meant was is there anything else different besides data storage capacity and also, why isn't there like a 5gb, 15gb, etc.

oh, well
I remember 1990s when we use to play with 16k chips. There is a reason why memory allocation was done in 4/8/16/32... steps block sizes to both memory and disks, the OS usually works with those values. If your OS is designed to allocate, let's say 10k for 8/16 data blocks you'll end up with unusable memory.

USB Storage VS. External SD

How can I move an app to my external SD card rather than the internal 16 GB storage. I cannot find a way to do that. When I choose move to SD card is only goes to the internal 16 GB.

download astro file manager....its free on the market and has a cut/copy/paste/move function
Thanks for the tips...what changed with this phone? This is my third Android phone and installing to SD card always meant to the microSD card.

Its because the phone has internal SD that mounts as mnt/sdcard which is normally external on phones that don't have internal SD storage.
So basically, the expanded slot is mainly for files and media, correct?

yeah, but with the amount of internal storage available on these devices, i see NO benefit to moving apps to sd. that was a benefit with older phones, but it seems all the newer models coming out have ample room for app installs. apps2sd seems like a worthless hassle to me any more.
I have to use apps2sd because the Market seems to want to default all my installs to the system storage rather than what it calls the usb storage...am I missing something here? My Captivate defaulted to the internal storage and I would often move into the external sd. My Infuse loaded all apps on the external sd card. This phone seems to go to the very limited system storage options (only like 1.3 gig free). So I feel like I have no choice but to continue using APPS2SD.

What apps are you running that you need THAT much internal storage for apps?
Samsung typically leaves 2gb for internal app storage, the 16gb internal SD for media ect..
I've got well over 150 apps on my phone and haven't come close to using my internal storage.
Well, I need more than the 2GB of internal storage but not much more. Just not used to the way this phone handled app storage compared to my past phones.

Give Link2SD a try; it's fantastic and allows you to move apps, one at a time or multiples (under menu button) to the ExternalSD card (plus it allows you to do so much more, see link above). It sees the External card as it should see it, an SD card that can have apps and data on it. App2SD doesn't give you a choice to move to the ExternalSD card, it only moves from phone to InternalSD and vice versa.

Repartition internal memory

I'm not really sure if this is possible or how difficult it would be or if anyone else would care to do it, but is it possible to repartition the 16GB of the phone for it to allocate less memory for apps and more for music, photos, etc? Even if you ran out of app storage, you could just move some apps to SD storage right? Thanks!

[APP] Ram expander

I just find out this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.swapit.expander.de
It increase ram by using sdcard on our phone.
Requirements sdcard class 6 and up.
Sorry because i only got class 4 sdcard and it cost 9$ so i'm not sure if it work on our device or not, just sharing

I tried that before.
It works but didn't notice any improvement.
the phone will use the swap space but only a little.
and one more thing, if you use this and you turn on the usb mass storage, it will stuck there and only internal storage is being mounted properly to the pc.

App does not work since ICS release. Apps must run off internal. There are workarounds but more hassle than they are worth.
Not sure why someone would even need this feature in this day and age. It was only invented to deal with shortage of space before cell phones caught up with the times.
