Smartswitch problem - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi all. Firstly I really apologise if there is already a thread for this subject but I've searched high and low and I can't find one.
I'm hoping for some in-depth help regarding smartswitch for pc. Windows 10.
My s7 is now on nougat official ota (I love it)! I had issues backing up with it on smartswitch so I uninstalled ss. Went to re download it and a window pops up saying windows side by side configuration is incorrect or something. Anyone else had this problem? Any help appreciate.thanks

[Q] Mango update issues (omnia 7)

I was pretty excited to see the Mango update is now available for the masses.. I mean those of us who don't have our devices unlocked as a developer phone so I decided to try my hands on it. But now I have some issues. When I open ZUNE I see update is available.
It tries to update but than after rebooting and finishing step 2/2: ERROR Code 80180048. apppers
I tried this several times on Win7 X64 and x86 but I still have the same problem.
Any ideas? maybe am getting something wrong

I tried but didn't help
This could be happening for 2 reasons... Apparently your phone is getting confused by which update to download.
1) Did you unlock at any point with Chevron? If so you probably didn't check off all the languages. If this is the problem just look for the Microsoft approved walsh fix, very easy to find.
Then restore your phone to the version before it was provisioned for mango and apply the walsh fix. VERY IMPORTANT CHECK OFF EVERY LANGUAGE. Then restart the mango process and people have posted that this should work.
2) If, like me, your a registered developer and still getting this error then unfortunately I've only been able to find 1 fix. Microsoft is working on correcting the problem but has said it will take a couple weeks. So on to the fun part. You need to flash your phone back to factory form. Flash not reset. You lose everything. Good this is your purchase history, contacts and calendar should be attached to your live id, if not you might want to sync them.
To flash your rom just search these wonderful forums to find it. All I searched for was "flash focus rom" and found a thread with the files and instructions were in the files. Once your phone has been flash you should have no problem updating to mango although you have to go through all the original updates and re install and set up your phone.
Hope this helps... it worked for me.

Thanks for reaching out to help me but I think I will give up now. I did all what you told me.. I read from other places even before you responded but it still didn't work. Am thinking its a problem with my Samsung Omnia phone so I guess I have to wait till the Final release of mango comes out. I had also the same issue with NoDo, I had to wait till the official Samsung fix came before I could finally get it.. guess this is like that too.
Sorry I couldn't help more. I have an unlocked ATT Focus running on Rogers... I was able to flash an Omnia 7 ROM on it but that was horrible because the phone literally began to mix the up and down and the portrait and landscape modes.
Did you try and flash your omnia back to stock?
I couldn't return back to the the stock ROM. My boot-loader is probably damaged . When I press the the volume up + and camera button to enter into download mode all I see is the black and white screen ..

Stuck phone

Hi,
I am new here but i am watching the forums for a long time. I came across a phone - HP Data messenger. The issue is that the phone is stuck on the boot screen and searching throughout the threads I couldn't find anything how to resolve it. My question is not regarding the HP in particular, but in general, how can this be resolved on wm6.1 devices. I presume that there is no longer a Rom on the device. Can anyone guide me or point me to a thread how to install a brand new Rom on a clean device?
Thank you in advance.

HP is a how-to-keep-a-secret company if you need help contact them and check your pocket
You need a device-specific tool to flash a new-branded rom forget about "in general" and search for a solution for your device only by ex check manufacturer site for a rom/tool/ instructions

Thanks for the info, but as you said HP is a how-to-keep-a-secret company as they do not support this product any longer . Imagine that . The issue is that at the moment it is not recognized by the PC. It does not show. Again thanks for the info on the devices. If anything comes across your mind how at least I can see the device in Windows I will be more than grateful.

well, I don't want to blame HP like that but you see.. they are business-oriented and it's obvious to request money for support !
more than that iPAQ series are very solid phones ..
It's strange that your phone is not recognized by PC so tell me more about your PC and what you did in order to get it
you need to install Active Sync also if you are running Vista/7 then you need Windows Mobile Device Center
for an update and instructions check this link

Hi,
The issue is that it does not show the device and because of that I can not update the bios with the link you gave me. This is an updater which does not see the phone. So i am in need of the phone to be visible. I am with Win7 and I have win mobile center, but because the device doesn't have an OS it can not connect. I am connecting the device, I tried searching how to get it in the boot-loader but it seems that there is no info what so ever as this HP is not as the older versions of IPAQ. I found on the web a way to get it in "USB composite" mode, but this doesn't help either.

try to disable any firewall (including Windows Firewall) also check this on Windows XP with at least Active Sync 4.5
I have a Samsung Omnia this is WM phone too so I know from my experience Active Sync/ PC connection can be tricky
also send a mail to HP tell them about the problem also there is a way to put firmware files on sdcard and press a keys-combo at boot time that will flash it without PC but this is device-specific maybe HP can help here

[Q] Can't update to 4.2 at all. Please help?

I've been browsing these forums all night and I for the life of me cannot just find a simple answer. This update came out a while ago and I had no idea about it, so hopefully someone can help me.
Literally, all I'm trying to do is upgrade to 4.2. I've never done anything at all to my phone, it's always been stock. I'm looking for help because the OTA won't work at all, it said I was on 4.1, so it checked for updates and downloaded like a 400mb file, and it turns back on and I'm still at 4.1??
I went to HTC's site and saw that I could just manually install it, but of course it's never that easy. I did all the steps exactly, but when it starts to download and gets to the black HTC screen, my computer always says it doesn't recognize it and can't install drivers (error 170), and then it fails to update. I've tried this on both machines that run windows 8.1. I feel like I've tried everything..I tried running it in different compatibility modes, run as admin, and then I read somewhere that you update it when you're on the fastboot screen. So I tried that but when I'm in the bootloader my computer doesn't recognize my phone at all.
I'm stuck on what to do at this point. I can borrow a computer that has windows 7 on it, if that would help at all. Any help is appreciated!
Not enough info. What carrier version is the device? What region/country are you in? What is your current software number (not Android version).
When you say "manually" update, I think you are talking about RUU. What is the RUU version (file name)?
WIndows 8.1 is probably your main issue with the RUU. Win 8.1 is not compatible with HTC drivers. Anything before 8.1 should work. But again, you need to provide more info.
Hey man thanks a bunch! I should've provided more info, although I just tried it using a windows 7 laptop and it worked with no issues thanks!

[Completed] [Q] Biggest mess up with root ever! GT-P5100 now a GT-3100

Let me first explain the thought process that went on before this all happened:
I wanted to stream my Spotify from Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100 to my smart TV via BubbleUPNP. But I couldn't do this for a number of reasons: my tablet wasn't a rooted device or running Android 4.1+ or had the Xposed framework. So I set to work trying to root my device and upgrade it to 4.1 in the process.
I used Odin to root my device and install the Xposed framework. This all went very smoothly and was impressed.
But the biggest error of all came when I tried to upgrade my Android version by Odin to about 4.1
+.
I managed to get what I thought was the correct ".tar" file. But part way through I was faced with an error message saying "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" so I tried using Samsungs own "Kies" to recover my device. But I soon found out this would be no help because "gt-p5100 does not support initializing." so this application was useless. I then done a bit more digging around on the internet and found out that I can simply restore my device with the correct file on Odin again.
I don't quite know exactly what happened next but I'm presuming I made a ridiculously stupid error and downloaded and loaded the wrong file onto my device. My device now thinks it's a 7" "GT-P3100."
With the tablet being completely useless because the touch screen no longer works because of the confusion between the models and I cannot find the correct files to load onto Odin for it to work either, mainly because I've given up on things to even search.
I am asking this because I've tried for hours with no luck and need help restoring my tablet back to a "GT-5100" so I can then root it on Odin and upgrade the OS to 4.1+.
Please also note I could not simply upgrade my OS by going into setting/about device/etc.
I can see how this stupidity can being funny to others but my simple accident has cost me dearly and I would appreciate some help from other.
Thanks,
Mike.
Hi,
Normally flashing firmware from another device that's not yours is a brick, especially with Samsung.... But hopefully because it's another tab 2 firmware, you can fix yours. But definitely exercise caution in the future.
The place most are getting Samsung firmware, especially older models is sammobile website.
Other than that, any links I found on XDA for it are dead.
You obviously know how to flash with Odin, so try sammobile and find your correct firmware.
If you have further issues, you should ask for help in your device section, here,
> Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 > Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Good luck!
Okay I was worried it could be bricked, but if I managed to get an error message on an install to then be able to simply change the model with the wrong file, I hoped I could almost mess up an install to get back to that stage to then be able to completely re-install my original correct files.
Thank you I will try Sammobile. I think that might've even been where I got the wrong file from in the first place.
Thanks a lot for your reply it fills me with hope knowing there might be a way to rectify my mistake.

Stuck at Boot after Odin Flash

Hey guys,
I know this has been asked a lot but please help me guys.
I have a friend's Galaxy S6 here and there was the following problem with it:
A password was suddenly set and nobody knew why, she really said it came out of nowhere!
So she asked me to get her photos from the phone and reset it afterwards.
I did that on other phones before so I flashed TWRP and pulled the files with adb.
I tried to reboot after that and was stuck at the boot screen. Guys, I almost cried (I dont have much money to buy a new one).
Please, does any have an idea for me to fix this? It would be so greatly appreciated!
I tried flashing some stock firmware from stockrom.net but Odin always says FAIL!
Seriously: anybody who can solve this: I will be thankful towards you forever
Kind regards
Try flashing the stock ROM from www.sammobile.com/firmwares instead.
SOLVED! BRICKED S6 Try this!
Sorry for asking this old question so I hope I will be able to help someone looking for a solution with this answer at least.
Everybody having a problem with a bricked Samsung device - TRY THIS:
If you can still access the download mode on your device its pretty likely that this will fix the problem.
The new version of Samsung Kies (yes that cheap garbage software to put media on your device, because you are to dumb to use your fricking Windows explorer for that) is called SmartSwitch and is capable of restoring the stock firmware on your device! Not all devices are supported but it definitely worked for my S6! Download it for Windows and Mac OS:
samsung . com/us/smart-switch/ (international link)
samsung . com/de/support/smartswitch/ (This leads you to the German version, google the version for your country if necessary. you will find it)
Start the software and boot your phone to download mode, connect it to your PC and SmartSwitch should detect it. I dont exactly remember the way to restore but it was somewhat like this (the program is simple you will find it). SmartSwitch offers you to restore the phone somewhere and it gives you a screen where you can type in the model number of your device (Use the complete Model number). This screen is important since you specify which stock firmware to load on your device here! It will then give you a simple progress bar and download the firmware from Samsung and install it!
Sorry not to be able to tell you the exact way but SmartSwitch's design is simple - if you managed to brick your device with ODIN (like I did) you will find the restore option in SmartSwitch
Seriously try this before molesting your bricked device with ODIN even more. I couldnt believe that it did work since Kies was such garbage and the SmartSwitch UI looks too simple to be able to repair a damn bricked device. I couldnt believe it when my phone rebooted correctly with stock firmware on it after I had bricked it with ODIN when trying to root and backup stuff.
Hope this helps some lost souls out there. SmartSwitch made my week when I had bricked a friends device.
EDIT: I found a video in some language I dont understand; it shows the way through the GUI to the "type your model here" option
youtube . com/watch?v=mi7O0OvnS2E
