I'm actually surprised to see Mate8 having good developer support, despite not know HiSilicon track record.
The only company friendly towards devs as I know is only Qualcomm. So my question is, does HiSilicon actually upload their kernel and drivers for the open source community? (Kirin 950 in for this)
well, yes and no. they were dicks before concerning sharing with the dev community, so theres not really anything to work with on the mate 8. BUT, honor improved on that stand and made the honor 8 pretty dev friendly. lucky for us, its based on the same SoC, so we now have smth to work with ^^

Where is the Huawei Ascend II forum? I mean, there is a section for non-smartphones so id think there'd be one for the A2. (shrugged shoulders)
Now I'm soo broke I cant even pay attention!

Stick a vote in here, champ
The vote thing has been goin for a while already and probly doesn't look like its gettin anywhere. It'd be nice to know the real reason why its being ignored by xda. Probly an inside thing with a high-up.

Oh I don't think so
All forums here are based on interest and/or projected interest. You need a minimum of 1,000 hits of interest before a new forum is considered. Not having a stateside launch cripples a lot of good devices - Huawei phones are amongst them
The Ascend 2 is for Cricket, right?
Hey guys,
atm I'm looking for a new phone and as it just dropped 50€ in price I'm highly considering the Honor 8. The only thing that worries me is that there are no Custom Roms. Right now I'm using a Samsung S5 with AICP Android 6 and the Nougat Update just around the Corner. Will there ever be stable and really Daily driver usable custom roms with Stock Android for Kirin CPUs? If there is no hope just tell me and I will move on searching but if there will be some developement in the future I would love to own this phone.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, I recommend you to read more threads about development here, that way you'll understand the situation better and why it's like that.
At the moment, no roms and no one working on it.
Its so sad that this awesome device does not have any custom roms yet

I'll give it a month, if there no custom ROMs I'll stick to the 5x or buy another device

There are some that are working on it but to be honest developing for this device is almost as bad as developing for xiaomi devices. There are a few teams that were working on it but then just tossed the device aside and said it wasnt worth the trouble.

As of for me (I am in the beginning on the path of ROM development and still learning) it's hard to start with a kirin device, but in the future I may start supporting kirin devices.

I thought about it as well but honestly can't afford another phone when my n6 is still a beast. I have looked at some of source and it is a mess. Almost completely unreadable.

Yeah mainly when they don't translate stuff out of Chinese. Which even translated comes out to gibberish. This is why many of the teams just gave up on the device and told the people that got them the device that it just wasn't gonna happen.
For now, be away from Kirin devices if you look for Custom ROM. Stay with Qualcomm or even MTK...

What do you think if we can translate those stuffs from Chinese to English? I think on XDA there are quite a few Chinese member, although this translation is definitely HUAWEI's own job...

Some have tried. It doesn't translate well due to the different dialects that are used.
I would pick the Karin over mtk if I had a choice myself.

The best part is when they misspell something and instead of changing it they leave it like that everywhere

. I also hate when when they define their functions STATIC in uppercase, it just makes no sense.
I am going to send an PR to the ViM developers to include a Chinese translator [emoji13]

I do agree with you it's easier for them to make them in chinese.
All I'm trying to say it isn't that hard to make the files in english (as it's the most used language) and it will be easier for the community to get started
After all, it's up to them
At least we won't get a ****load of copy/pasted buggy roms made by people who don't even own the device or know what a kernel is.
I now find myself more comfortable with this phone and exactly 0 kernel kiddies around, than with my previous Samsung and the perpetual expectation/hope/false illusion of someone to finally make a decent update out of the hundred available variants, which yes it let me keep the phone a year more, but always on the edge of instability, and with an additional decrease of its used market value (a 2-years old phone still has some market; 3-years old is ready to trash).
I don't see criticalities on this phone for now; we'll get Nougat and an EMUI refresh in a few months, and that's enough for another year. Except some defects on status bar and notifications, I don't miss any of the 10000 features of the various fully modded CM13 roms.
Hi,
We all are know Android P beta is rolling out now for specific devices. Anyone can make That rom ti compatible to mi a1 because I can not do that I'm mot programmer and If anyone can make that to this device it is valuable for us

well if you are "not programmer" why would you need this??? so many request from indians who dont even know what to do with them, this is developer preview, you not being programer will just complicate things for you as this is not stable rom, wait for official release.

Actually the process of bulding roms is not programming. It has minor similarities, but in general this is completely different stuff.

and this P beta is for programmers so they can test their apps and features, not to build roms, dont know the meaning you was going for. anyway my post was about people crying about roms and ports just for the sake of they wanting to have something, and not for the reason that it is meant to exist. like this dude, he want P beta just for fun although its not meant for wide usage nor it is stable, on top of that he is "not programmer" so we can assume he doesn't know much about what this is meant for and how is meant to be used, so when some bugs occur he will came back here and rant about it, just wanted to say this is not for him, not for me and probably for most of the guys here, so just wait for official release of P for Mi A1 which will probably be around new year, best regards.

You were a bit rude but I get your point, people should just wait for the update if they are not familiar with beta ROMs. They don't really know how buggy betas can be, unless their phone is a toy they use for flashing ROMs and stuff and not as a daily driver then sure!
I wouldn't mind seeing Android P beta ported to our device, not because someone couldn't wait for it, but for devs' respect. And with Treble support stirring around, I wouldn't be surprised if this was possible in near future. Just as a proof of concept, that Treble support could be enabled by the communities hard work.
I'm not saying I would run it on my device, risks of damaging the device are still pretty high, so unless someone comes up with a reliable solution, then maybe.
Even now custom ROMS are laggy for me, barely usable for me. Stock is the way to go for me (that comes from a former kernel developer), because I'm tired of fixing all that hassle myself, reliability is what I want these days.

Hello,
Do you think the Redmi Note 7 will support Google ArCore soon? Xiaomi has planned to make it compatible so that we can have access to augmented reality?
Thank you in advance.

How are any of us supposed to know?
We will all find out when they actually do it, anything else is conjecture.

As stated, anything that we in the public might have to say about this would only be conjecture based on rumor and product teasers that may or may not come to pass.
The only way to find out for sure, is to ask Xiaomi directly.

Unfortunately, none of us can predict the future. So the situation can turn out any way, irrespective of what people can guarantee.
The signs of this device getting plenty of development love is good. But there is absolutely nothing that guarantees developers won't abandon it.

If that is the case, you can expect a Poco F2 to come out in Q3 2019 as well. So that will always happen, since Poco will likely release an affordable flagship. There will be some migration happening then as well.
