android.process.media has started sucking bandwidth

Hi guys,
In the last couple of weeks I noticed my data traffic increased hugely (it used to be around 10MB for a week or so) up to the limit where my phone provider (Vodafone) told me I had reached the limit for my contract (500MB in 7 days). I did some research and it seems that the responsible process is android.process.media, which downloads i don't know what i don't know where at crazy speeds, some megabits per seconds, then stops, and then does it again after some hours.
I really have no clue what this process is doing, and why, since I don't remember changing anything since the time when this problem was not occurring. Any clue? This is really annoying because for the moment I have had to switch off 3G connectivity completely.
BY THE WAY: I don't know if this could be related, but a couple of days ago I was driving in my car and turned to google maps to get my location. Latitude was active and it kept saying that I was in China (!?!?), then as soon as my GPS receiver fixed the signal my location changed to the correct one, and then again back to China etc. For a while I thought that my google account could have been hijacked, but:
1) is it really possible for android malicious apps to steal your google account password?
2) that did not happen again, it just stopped after 10 minutes or so
3) I changed my password just to be sure, but now I am really wondering what malicious apps can do in Android...
I am running the basic nk02 rooted version of the original 1.6 Donut from HTC.
Thanks for your help,
Andrea
I have the exact same problem on a different phone with a different ROM... did you ever find a solution? I hit 5gb in 7 days :/

[Q] Google Latitude location updater

Hi all,
Just wondering if theres an app that allows your location on latitude to be refreshed, every 5 minutes for example.
I've found an app for the iphone its called playnice just wondering if there was something similar for androids?
Because to update your location on latitude you have to keep going into it.
Thanks
Hi - That would be a good tool.. however.. latitude does update your location without going into it.. I just can't quite figure out what triggers the update.. I switched it on on my wifes phone and when she was out the other night it did update - I think it might update when you use the phone - she texted me, and then I saw where her new, approximate location was... not GPS accurate.. but within a few 10's of feet.
Hi mate, thanks for the reply iv set it to auto update and it just doesnt update lol.
Only when i go into the application, Never mind maybe this is something that could be put together for the future?
Mine auto updates regularly. Have you made sure that 'Wireless Networks' is checked in the settings>>location menu??

[Q] offline movies cinema showtimes app?

Hi guys, I've tried searching a lot and have come up empty handed. I don't have a data plan on my phone (just use wifi at home/school/work) and I need an app that stores movie showtimes for the close by theaters so that I can look at them later when i dont have a connection to the internet. maybe something that caches the data so it doesnt have to connect. any suggestions?
really? nothing?

[Q] Why does GPS need internet connection?

Hi thank you for everyone who will reply to this thread.
I use Turn by Turn Navigation which has a feature to allow me to download maps for offline use. I downloaded a whole area around me and decided to test it out.
For some reason it can't locate my location without an internet connection, Why is that? Does GPS need an internet connection?

Click to collapse
no, it's only 1215640 times faster with an internet connection, because it uses base-cell, wifis, ephemerids (oh I hope I wrote it right) downloaded from positioning servers etc...
