Unlocking bootloader always initiates a factory reset, backup your data first
no way around this. root, however, doesnt reset anything.

i want to know if there's a way to root your device (for the first time) without data being wiped?
i only want root access nothing more
Getting a root access doesn't wipe out data if you have an unlocked bootloader.
You cant root your phone without unlocking the bootloader.
And to unlock the bootloader there is no way you can do that without data getting lost.
So for the first time rooting phone without loosing data is not possible I guess.

I accidentally deleted 200 photos from my Mate 9, as I know, to recover these photos, I need to "root" my Mate 9 (B213) first, and before that, I need to get an unlock code from Huawei.
I'v already got the unlock code.
The unlock procedure prompts that all data will be deleted with a factory reset. I am not sure if this step will permanently erase all data on the storage.
Anyone has similar experience?

I would expect the unlock to permanently erase all data, yes (or rather, it will permanently wipe the key used for file-based encryption, which amounts to the same thing). If it doesn't, it's a major security flaw.

if u have assigned mi account to your device u can reset password. otherwise ... you already know

Without loosing data it is not possible man. It will possible if usb debugging is on and mtp is enabeld so u can pull the all internal data in pc using adb command, then u may format using recovery to reset the pattern

Is your device rooted and js debugging allowed for the PC you have at home?

You're posting in the wrong section.
Unlock bootloader automatically reset the phone. Root doesn't.
So whatever you do, back up 1st all your data. Local, cloud.
You can use migrate to backup. Its in playstore.
