Mate 8 questions & OnePlus One comparison - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
few days ago I become the owner of Huawei Mate 8 (NXT-L29 C432), 32 GB/3GB Ram, upgraded to stock B320 right away. What I have read about m8, it should be one of the best phones nowadays available. I had OnePlus One for the last 2 years, so let me compare those 2 cellphones...
I was looking forward to a new phone, but I am quite dissapointed right now. OnePlus One (OPO) is almost 3 years older type and not even half the price, but that android cynogenmod is like 5 years ahead in development, ultra fast, automatic updates to the newest android/cyanogenmod version almost every week, great features (best pre-installed apps for e-mail, tasks, settings, calling - implemented great working TruCallerID, lots of great stuff, etc...). My OPO had 64GB internal storage, maybe even better processor (?), it had like 3 times more settings options, etc. How is it even possible that I bought brand new phone and even after checking for updates I have much older android than in my old OPO phone? I am sad that Mate 8 doesn't have some good community taking care about modding, apps, features...
To be honest, that cellphone change wasn't worth the money, not even close.
But I don't wanna be just negative, Mate 8 has some good features, fingerprint scanner (even I don't need it), I actually like sleep-mode-apps-killing, much more LTE brands...
Let me have few questions please:
1) I won't install any custom roms, there can be warranty problem with my seller, but my phone didn't even offered me the update to stock B320, it looked like B180 was the newest firmware available, do I really have to check XDA all the time and install updates manually?
2) I can't find ringtone settings (increasing volume) - is it even there?
3) That voice commands is just a joke, seriously. Okay emy - even those two words works in approximately 40 % of time, where are you - it works only if the phone is right in front of you D), dont even try it if it's in another room, so pretty unusable. And okay emy - call xxx - it can catch that xxx name in like 20 % and even if it can catch it - it says calling xxx, but NOT ACTUALLY CALLING, any idea where is the problem?
4) any good suggestion for an app replacing integrated Huawei fit/health? Pedometer works fine, but it has very few options and functions. That map after exercise - I can't even switch to satellite view, right?
Thanks a lot guys for each comment, sorry for my english

Should i buy Honor 6 ?

Hi guys, so im thinking to buy Honor 6 , because i like alot that design, but you guys tell me is it worth buying it ? (even i hate that huawei UI) if not ? then what you recomand me to buy (something that cost same like Honor 6 ) ?
Please don't throw your money away! The phone is a whole marketing lie. The display starts to get red and blue spots in a couple of months till the whole display got a line in the size of a matchstick (till now). The display doesn't react like it should when you put the power connector into it in the time of a half year to year and ghost pushes. Huawei can't handle to update the operating system (they had a year old Android on it when it came out, after a year an already 2 years old Android Update came out and now it got a half year old Android version on it, while Android 6 came out on 5. October). It produces microstutters when you are browsing and playing games, because they fkd up the energy saving and performance mode to degrade the phone into a whole energy saving phone.
I had a modded Samsung s2 before and it had the same performance in games, all was fluid, but it had no microstutters and wasnt stuttering and ghost pushing when i had it connect with the power connector. If you want to see something in the daylight you have to put the highest brightness on and even then it's not perfect.
The only difference between the s2 and the h6 was the display wasn't as big as the Honor 6 plus updates came out immediately on Samsung.
Please don't throw your money away. The phone was hyped too much. In real it's a faulty cheap device. I'll never do the failure again.

well thanks man, what you suggest me to get ?
I still love my Honor 6... and don't have any of the issues reported.
But if was today, I'd probably get a One Plus X.
i love my honor 6 dual sim with lte and also have no issues...I would buy it again, especially for the price of 239 USD....
good luck anyway...
Robo
p.s. and i play games with no strutters (nfs...)
and with emui3 you can change a lot the look and feel of the phone...
I dont have any of those mentioned problems.
Still works good for me, nice performance, nice battery life.

Do you have some links, threads on the forums etc. to put more credibility to your claims? I tried to look for it, but it doesn't seem like these issues are as well known as you say...

This issues are definitely made up. Or caused by bad treatment of the phone. I can assure you that none of the mentioned above happens.
As for the system updates, it is a downside that updates come too slow, but if you are not of those people who flash new roms every day, it shouldn't really bother you.
I'd say the terrible WiFi performance (WiFi is unusable if you're streaming audio to a Bluetooth device) and EMUI 3.1 being pretty broken (Chrome tabs are nowhere to be found, Smart Lock doesn't work properly, and many many useful features of 5.1 are hidden or plain absent) are dealbreakers for me.
Add to this the fact that the power button on mine stopped working. The Honorvipservice.co.uk website doesn't work, and tells you to call the service centre. Called the centre and they said to call Huawei. Called Huawei and the booked it in over the phone. Allegedly a replacement phone will come tomorrow, but to be honest I think I'm just going to sell it and get a Motorola so I can get stock Android 5.1.
PS should add that I'm back on my old Moto G first generation (non 4G) and I'm actually much preferring the experience to that of the Honor 6 Plus - even with the slower operation and smaller screen. Android just works properly - at least with the minimum apps installed.
No problems with this phone. EMUI 3.1 works like a charm (no issues with chrome tabs) haven't done both bluetooth streaming with wifi but the wifi itself is stable and quick enough.
I bought my Honor 6 for £80 as a joke phone as I never tried an Huawei and did not want to spend a lot of money on it and boy am I impressed. Aside from development, the phone is really quick and the processor (which is basically an Exynos CPU, which are the best imo) is good and coupled with 3GB RAM means its definitely high end material. Just put on MIUI 7 on the phone and you are set. Lovely phone but I don't use it much as I have loads of phones haha. At the price range its in its great. I would not spend more on a Huawei (like the 6P) than the Honor 6.
Yeah, the phone is all good for me. If you have the patience to wait for software updates, its a fine phone.

Are you sure? There was a change in how Chrome handles tabs (not EMUI related) and you might've missed that. Now each tab is treated like a different application - you manage tabs in Recent Apps (the square button). Works for me.
The other stuff mentioned here isn't too important for me to be honest, but I understand your concerns. I definitely have the patience for updates, coming from a phone that had Android 4.1 (and quite usable 4.4 custom rom) and 0,7GB of RAM, Honor 6 is a massive upgrade for me. kackalarm's issues seem faulty model related at best, and blatant lies at worst. I'm pretty objective towards the fact that my phone might have some faults in the future, but it's hard to believe stuff like that without any proof...
For its price, it's not bad at all. Screen is nice, and not too big (5" is the absolute maximum for the size of my pocket). It looks better than most phones in this price range, has 3GB RAM which should be future-proof enough. There's some ROM development, even if we're still waiting for any kernel sources newer than KitKat, I can wait. (Although there are definitely safer bets if you care about ROM development, there is a chance Huawei won't care about it anymore) I'm satisfied with EMUI and that's got to be the first time I even considered using stock, unrooted software on a phone. (To be fair though, my previous phones were slow and had no recent updates, so using ROMs was necessary for good Android experience)
Yeah, I updated using the file on the Honor site. The phone told me about the tabs but no sign of them when I hit the square button. My Moto G is on 5.1 and they work fine there.
The Wifi/Bluetooth thing is the biggest problem with the device for me though.
@sado1
Let me google it for you if you are too lazy: lmgtfy.com/?q=honor+6+blue+spot
When you need more "credebilities" then look into Amazon reviews of the Honor 6. It's not a "faulty sunday model" or whatever, the Honor 6 itself is faulty. How can it be that so many same smartphones have the same failures? You can't see these failures in a quality check, if they happen in a random time. For one it's after a few weeks, for the other one it's after a year or more, but it definitely will happen some day. Similar problems are on smartphones like Sony Z1 and Samsung Galaxy 1 Plus for example (touchscreen problem, ghost touch while connected to power connector). Enough "credebility on my claims"?
@browser problems
I've got problems on my Honor 6 with videos often, when I try to watch a video over one of the browsers (Chrome, Firefox). First everything works like a charm and after 2 minutes or whatever the tab is broken and shows no video anymore. That happens on every browser. I have to reload the whole browser or open the video in a new tab then. Apps like Amazon Video or Youtube work like a charm.
@Xhemal1325
I won't suggest you any cheap smartphone, because you ever have a downside on that. You have to buy what you feel is good for you and if a cheap phone is good for you it is good for you. I suggest you to go into a smartphone shop and test every actual smartphone you can offer for nearly the same price, like Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo and stuff. As long as you are happy it's good. I only hope that you don't buy a Honor 6 and end up with the same problems some day. I personally won't suggest cheap and old smartphones and the Honor 6 was more an emergency buy than a well conceived buy, because I can buy the smartphones, where you clearly feel and see a difference between both worlds.
Should you buy an Honor 6 ?
If you are an Indian User: Yes, but you must know this is an end of life model....
If you are an European User: No
Since Lollipop, Indian model of H60-L04 (Honor 6) have 3 updates.
Beta selection for Marshmallow just started.
European Model: 0 updates since Lollipop (this also an H60-L04). And of course security flaws are'nt fixed !
No beta at this moment for the H60-L04, and no one knows when ....
From 12 mounts I have Honor 6 H60-L12. Bought from Aliexpress (China to Europe) (official china rom 5.1.1 manual applied, Battery 3 days regular use)
Good thinks:
No bad issue, work stable in any conditions.
EMUI 3.1 have similar to iphone interface for me it is really easy to jump between SMS Contacts Notes. I like it.
- Individual restriction to any installed app. When lock phone it stop app not permitted to work.
- Sensitive GPS, two independent SIM TX, IR with many many models for TVs DVDs STBs Air conditioners, built in Camera translation, have MHL, OTG.
Features not implemented:
- Double tap to start screen
- No Miracast only DLNA
- Some issue with connection to Kenwood car audio. Play music from speaker not from amplifier. Still try to clear it.
Low in plastic body - to soft - in back pocket of jeans it start to have curve shape.
Antutu (last) 51 387 pionts. HiSilicon Kirin 920 18 place CPU model. Very stable work.

Honor 8 owners; what will your next phone be?

Honor 8 owners; what will your next phone be, and why?
Or if you already have bought a new one, which one was it, and why that phone?
My next one won't be a Huawei one, that's for sure. I'm fed up with their bull****. I'll go OnePlus, Pixel or even Xiaomi depending on my budget.
I appreciated in the end the Oreo update they gave us, but i needed it just to intall RR beta 2 from openkirin and get rid of EMUI. Couldn't be happier about the rom. However, if i'll buy another phone the choice will dipend of the budget i will be able to afford. I'm interested in Xiaomi or Oneplus, as i'm done with Samsung and Honor for now...but maybe i could open again to Honor if they REALLY impresse me with an AMAZING quality/price phone. Unless that day bye bye Honor and Sammy
Poco F1 as of now... im really looking for compact phone like Honor 8 but no one manufactures it or even cares about it.. all they care about is ****ing notch and copying iphone..
I'm really happy with the build quality and aesthetics of the honor 8, but their software support is terrible. Now I am almost certain that the Oreo update is a one-off thing. I think I'll consider switching to one plus seeing their software support and pretty interested in the leaks of 6T. If a company launches lots of phones per year, their software support becomes more limited than the companies launching limited phone models per year, it's just my opinion though.
Gonna try out the iPhone. This was my first and will be my last phone from Huawei.
My next phone won't be Honor/Huawei. After Oreo official update my phone is hanging and randomly restarting. Probably Xiaomi/OnePlus/Asus ..
Honor 8 is my first Honor device, I had a Sony before that, and Samsung before that. I will NEVER go back to Samsung, Sony was good but lagging behind these days. And Honor 8 is impressive I have to say, apart from the chaotic updating protocol that Huawei seems to follow
I tried Xiaomi Mi A2 for a week and I didn’t like it. MIUI was a bit ‘rude’, couldn’t get rid of Google search bar, couldn’t see network speed on my notification bar, couldn’t even change ringtone (UK market, themes and ringtones are not supported due to privacy regulations!). Also LED notification light, it’s there, but only in white! Whether it’s an application notification or charging light! It’s just constantly white! I had to return the device
I like Honor I have to say, excellent build quality, multicolour notification light, network speed on notification bar, clearing memory from the bottom of the screen rather than having to scroll through all apps on top! And when I do clear the memory it tells me how much I’ve been using and how much left! It’s small things like this on daily use that I do appreciate
I will never buy an iPhone or Pixel just because it's against my principals! I also don’t want a ‘flagship’ device that will cost too much money because I know what I’m like, doesn’t matter how good or expensive the phone is, in a year or two I will want to buy another one! So no point paying too much just to let it sit in a drawer in a couple years time!
I did look at OnePlus 6, too expensive for my liking, also lack of MicroSD card could be an issue, I didn’t think it would be till I tried Xiaomi Mi A2 last week.
I used to like Nokia (I’m talking about original Nokia, 5110, 3310, 8250 and 6630!) Looked at 7 Plus but saw too many reviews mentioning charger socket problems and update lag issues, if they manage to rectify that, I might give Nokia a go :good:
Also very tempted to get the Honor Play now, wouldn’t pay launch price for it though as I know it will drop a bit soon/ish! I wouldn’t mind the notch if it’s properly integrated into the operating system, but then again, would I have same problems updating it in a couple months' time?

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S... It's a nobrainer for me. I was also thinking about OnePlus 6T and Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact, but they are really expensive and the Sony one doesn't have custom ROMs for it. Xiaomi is the perfect golden middle route: It only costs 410 bucks, but it's a flagship designed for my intensive gaming and programming needs and the XDA community for it is pretty active: there are so much custom ROMs for it that I can't choose from lots of MIUI replacements and Xiaomi supports making custom ROMs unlike Huawei.
Thanks to everyone for input and sharing experiences...
After thinking about it for quite a while I might go for OnePlus 6 128 gb
I think i'll try Xiaomi for the first time in my life, Mi 8 SE.
Xiaomi A2, Pixel 3, or Oneplus 6t, depending on availability and pricing. One thing is sure though, heavily modified Android or Huawei, never again.
Its gonna be the LG G7 for me
Probably the OnePlus 6T or Huawei P20/Mate 20
Im currently thinking of Nokia 7 plus... stock android, android one updates, working G-cam, big battery etc...
It kind of bothers me that some apps don't work correctly on huawei phones (i often see the warning "this app might not work correctly on your phone" and i had to try several apps to get the job done)...
No other cam app working on the 8, EMUI not so fresh oh and i need a new battery after one and a half year of not so heavy use...
Phone was good and good price when i bought it, made some good pics, its fast, but when you dig deeper there are flaws now and then....
not to mention the "when is the update coming? " thriller, specially with oreo....
My next phone will most likely either be a Pixel or OnePlus. But if some manufacturer like Huawei makes a phone with the best camera in a phone and it wouldn't cost that much, then I'd consider getting that.
Mate 10 pro should be on sale soon considering the mate 20/pro is coming out. It's around $500 to $550 now depending on the color. Hope to get it for around $400 in a few months.
Xiaomi mi8 explorer
Samsung S9 for me.. i really dont like big phones but the s9 feels just like my honor 8
i need something with SD card support and really hate cloud storage
Its may be the Honor 10 for me...

Should I buy this phone?

Hi Everyone
I'm looking to upgrade from a Oneplus 3. Previously it was a great price for good specs.
I noticed the magic 3 whilst looking at YouTube and the specs look amazing.
1 - Interested to know of those who have had it for a while would you recommend getting it?
2 - what are the main annoying factors about the phone?
3 - Are there any others in the price range I should consider? I mostly play pubg, do retoo gaming and watch films with my existing phone
Many thanks in advance
Jamie
1 - Difficult to answer....if you're not into rooting and customizing, but happy with a basic Android experience and raw power, you should buy it......otherwise,if you want 100% flagship bells and whistless for half the price, you'll have to search futher,as this phone does not 'has it all' for just €479.
2 - For me,the most annoying thing is that there's much more to squeeze out of the camera,if Nubia's app would match the capabilities......but hopefully, there will be a working Gcam release in the near future.
3 - Xiaomi Mi 9....but I fell for the RM3.....
Many thanks for the reply, I don't mind rooting if necessary.
Also happy with a basic android experience as my oneplus was pretty much that when it first came out.
Thanks for the suggestion I will look into that also ??

I can tell the battery backup is awesome. Only problem I have is the gaming buttons are too annoying when playing a video.
I have it unrooted without gapps and IMO its better then some flagships. Reason is the big screen and the big battery and the stereo sound.
Also I prefer metal over Glas backside. And NO Notch.
The camera is better than that on my Xiaomi mi mix 3.
this phone is amazing, the only bad thing i see it had is not hdmi usb-c to support
I would wait for two main reasons:
1) Asus is going to announce their new ROG phone at the end of this month. While it will probably be a good deal more expensive, It might have some cool features
2) Nubia just announced they are going to release an 855 Plus version of this phone.

Thing is,no matter how long you wait ,there will always be something better on the horizon after your purchase.......no matter which device you've bought...
Hi,
Considering the price and the specs, I think the Red Magic 3 is about the best phone you can have nowadays.
If you buy it, you should consider two things :
- Chinese UI has a lot of features but is ugly and themes are mostly paid ones ;
- Europe/US/Asia ROM has ZERO features.
Once I recovered from the disappointment, the second solution was clearly what I was looking for.
So here is my advice :
- take the Europe/US/Asia version and flash it to your device (if it doesn't ship with that as stock)
- unlock the bootloader
-root your phone.
All this is done in like 4/5 minutes...
Once done, install all apps to add the required features.
You will have a phone that has ONLY THE FEATURES YOU WANT.
No bloat, no unnecessary stuff...
A dream come true
Of course, it comes with a price : once rooted, you will get OTA notifications but won't be able to install them...
Regards.

If you live in North America, I'd steer clear of this company.
I ordered one of their phones last week. I still have yet to receive my shipping notice. I ordered it with priority shipping, and according to their website, it should have shipped within 24 hours of payment.
4 days after it failed to ship, I contacted support, and was told "Be patient". Ever since then, they've stopped responding to emails. They won't give me any sort of clue as to when my order will ship. Apparently this is a frequent occurrence with Red Magic.
They're one of those companies that are only interested in getting devices out to reviewers, everyone else is to fend for themselves.
The support page on their website doesn't work. Apparently they didn't pay for it. Nubia cannot give any answers either, they just argue back in forth in the support email with several of the employees arguing about who's job it is to deal with.
If you ever receive a phone from them, and have an issue, good luck with that. Their current company (if you can call it that) shows that can't deal with supporting their devices. They can't even deal with fulfilling orders.
Stay far far away from this company, for you own good.
Is there likely to significant difference between the 8gb and 12gb ram? I think I'm going to get it but wonder if it's worth the extra money. Also just seen they mentioned the magic 4 by the end of the year. So maybe prices will come down
Well I'm in N.A. and I bought it from the site day it released. Great phone, few bugs at the moment and its a gaming phone at heart with stock Android, easily customizable. Honestly any game task you throw at it handles like a boss. It's an emulation dream with built in buttons. My controller and case should arrive the 22nd and I'm sure it will be great. I can tell you any Bluetooth controller works well on it too. The choice to buy is up to you, basically do you want a gaming phone or something else.
I have had this for two days in the USA and I love it. Usually I have buyer's remorse and would be looking for a new phone by now so I can say it really is great. Battery life is better than my S9 with a Mophie pack so far. Even with playing with it constantly I can't kill it in one day and usually my S9 needs to be plugged in by late afternoon. I have not rooted it yet, and may not. I love a clean version of Android. Not sure why people think that is bad. All the random customization sometimes comes with a speed cost. This phone is just plain fast. Usually I root to get rid of crap so you can see where I stand. If you hate big heavy phones, don't buy it. That is the negative. I had a ZTE Axon 7 and updates were slow so that's another negative. Other than that, super fast, great screen, great battery, strong data signal...it's a buy. Reminds me of the original OnePlus, or the Axon. Phones that were surprising values, but were big and heavy.

I'm coming from the OnePlus 3(T) as well, looking for a new device. What I didn't like at the Oneplus were the original ROM (luckily Lineage helped a lot) and the sound and position of the speaker. I loved the front facing stereo speakers of my HTC One (m7) years ago.
So I'm thinking of purchasing the RM3, but at the moment there are no alternative ROMS. Another device I'm looking at is the Black Shark 2, but situation with ROMs and support seems to be even worse.
For the RM3, I have concerns, if a fan inside a mobile will really last for some years, or break down at some time...
I also had the 3T and 1 and the 6T obviously this is just a better phone due to the increases in tech. No way to tell on the fan, I will say...and not sure how ZTE vs it's company Nubia will work, but my Axon 7 had a couple of screen issues due to my dropping it and the speaker stopped working, not sure if it was due to that and ZTE fixed it every time free of charge within the first year. I was very happy with their service on that phone. ROM support will be lacking but it's a clean version of Android so I prefer that

To me...a clean, lean ROM, which the US version is, rooted with Magisk and other mods I choose myself is always the best option. Some custom ROMs can get pretty bloated themselves

It depends on what you are looking for an what you want to do?
If you are a person who is happy with stock ROMs an just leaves cellphones in the state they are in out of the box then yes buy it.
However if you are a person who likes tinkering modifications an custom ROMs the please do not buy this cellphone.
I tried to install TWRP over 2 months ago an got stuck in a fastboot bootloop. Every xda suggestion to fix this plus paying a cellphone repair center an trying heaps of suggestions an it's still non functional.
It has horrible software an is rediculously sensitive to any and all attempts to FLASH ANYTHING.
If red magic 3s break you might never be able to fix them at a software level.
Mine lives in a bag by my bed to remind me not to bite off more than I can chew.
I have a xiaomi Mi9 now an have no real issues with it.
Good luck with your decision
So the options are to buy on Ali are with a stock Global Rom or a Chinese ROM. I see some other posts about people flashing to the Chinese one. Is that the best option to choose? I take it you can still select the language as English and support here etc? Thanks for everyone's responded it's been really helpful. I was thinking of holding out for the 855plus but not sure if I can afford which will be most likely an additional cost for it.
I also have the same question but mine is a bit different. Im convinced i am going to buy it but...
Should i buy it now or wait for the 855+ version? Idc if its gonna be a bit more expensive

I would of thought it would be more expensive as they still have the original to sell. Probably will stick another £100 on it or so I reckon ?

Are you guys still feeling samsung? (Snapdragon users)

I'm not sure if I'd like to continue using Samsung, now that the snapdragon versions can't be bootloader unlocked anymore.
I find it extremely frustrating not being able to downgrade my OS from bad updates.
I'm also very frustrated not to be able to do full nandroid backups (including EFS).
Not having any custom roms is also very disappointing.
If exynos didn't have such bad idle battery life, I'd use exynos.
At this point, I think the only thing I'm attracted to on the samsung devices is the color from their amoled.
Good or bad, I'd like to hear you snapdragon users give your opinion on how happy you are with the current samsung snapdragon devices, what would be your ideal alternative device to samsung? And why?
Also, let me know if you're a generic user or hardcore enthusiast.
I've had a Note since the Note 4...which was an absolutely amazing device in my opinion. Most of the stuff I own are Samsung products...except for my laptop. They have quality products...but every year I find it harder to justify the price tag...considering all the competition there is now...amazing devices for much less. I currently have the Note 10 now but I don't really think I'll upgrade to the next one next year. Especially with how far OnePlus devices have come among other devices. Maybe the next Pixel will be worth the upgrade. I used to root, custom roms and all that as well. But, for me it's mostly the price tag that's turning me away from Samsung.
Back in the day of ****ty OEM skins, I was a crack flasher and used TWRP & TiBU almost daily. But Samsung One UI has come a long way since Touchwiz. I actually enjoy using the stock ROM and don't feel the need to immediately wipe it with something else. It already offers 95% of what I'd fix with a custom ROM. I honestly don't miss wiping it and starting all over with each new version of a custom ROM. All of my important files are stored in the cloud or email, and I don't use any apks that are unavailable outside of the Play Store, apk mirror or other web sites, so no need to backup those. I use Adguard which does a great job, so no need to root just for adblocking. I use CCSWE App Manager to disable bloatware that I will never use. My Note 10 battery lasts all day every day, so no need to flash tweaks/mods to eek out more juice. Overall, I really have no need to root anymore. But if I absolutely *had* to root my phone today, I'd probably go with something from OnePlus. I had a P2XL which was a great phone for its time, but the new Pixels are just meh imo. Their camera system is the only thing that sets them apart. The rest of the phone is underwhelming and overpriced for what you get.
Yeah Samsung screens are amazing, and so is there hardware. Example i was trying to WI-FI Direct Joker to my mates Huawei P20 or something can't really remember exact model around 7/8 mins in it was around 40% ish percent i had a phone call i had to run, so i came back 20 mins later used WI-FI direct again we must have got up to 60% this was well over ten mins he had to shoot see what I’m trying to say yeah Huawei, Apple and all the other manufactures are good,
But you can’t beat Samsung hardware. i WI-FI directed the joker it's 2.4 gig file size from my Tab S SM-T705 LTE which is 5 years old to my Note 9 in under 3 mins also my Tab S 8.4 picks up most Wi-Fi hotspots i work in a car park i have tried few year old iPhone and Huawei witch is last year’s model its co-workers phone they pick up eff all i would have to go out of the car park to pick up the hotspots while my Samsung Tab S from 2014 picks up all the free Wi-Fi networks Apple Huawei use trash hardware Samsung hardware Rocks!
People think yeah I’m paying half of what Samsung is charging but when it comes to little things that actually matter in real world usage that's where Samsung is leaps ahead of the competition.
Samsung Snapdragon bootloaders have been locked for years. I used the Note 8 as my primary device for 2 years, and have been using the Note 10+ since release date. The battery life just keeps getting better. I haven't had a reason to root since the Note 4. Android updates don't seem to change much in recent years, they mainly just make the overall system smoother. I've never felt like a previous version was better than the recent update. Overall, I'd rather give Samsung my money to keep making quality products with premium hardware. I also use Dex daily with my Surface Pro.

Question Considering switching

Currently have an S21 ultra and am considering trading it in for a Pixel 7 pro. Would this be considered an upgrade?
That depends entirely on your usecase. Samsung offers a multitude of software gimmicks (we Pixel people call it bloatware) and a stellar display plus a relatively good battery life (by shutting down everything in the background*).

Pixels on the other hand offer an extraordinary camera, a smooth software experience, quick updates and new features every couple of months.
Purely in terms of hardware and competition, the P7 Pro is designed to beat the S22 Ultra and will compete with the upcoming S23 Ultra, as such, yes - the P7 Pro can be considered an upgrade to your 1 3/4 year old S21 Ultra. But it's a bit like comparing a Porsche to a BMW - both are good, but both are also vitally different. Both offer a different set of features and are designed for a certain level of expectation. It's a question of taste, at the end of the day.
Agreed with @Morgrain. I went back to Samsung (Note 10+ 512 GB) after my Pixel 1 stopped receiving updates because I needed a phone with 512 GB of storage minimum, so it wasn't until the Pixel 6 Pro was offered with 512 GB that I could come back. Personally, I couldn't stand Samsung for a variety of reasons I detailed many times in several Pixel 6 Pro threads

My wife and I had the Note 10+, not the S21 Ultra, so I can't speak to that.
For the Note 10+, complaints were:
Slow ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint reader. Some folks have the same complaint about the P6P's optical in-screen, but it's worked very, very well for me.
Samsung's duplication of multiple services that Google supplies. You have to know what you're looking for and jump through all the proper hoops/settings to set defaults back to Google's solutions since that's what I prefer.
Related to Samsung's duplication of services/apps, their phone app duplicated a bunch of my contacts (and even tripled some) in a way that Google doesn't recognize them as duplicates, so I'd have to go through manually, compare, and delete or consolidate contacts.
How customization of the active Quick Setting tiles was set was really frustrating, up through and including Android 11 on the Note 10+. When it gave a list of the QS Tiles I had to choose from (to add to those that normally show), it presented them in a single horizontal scrolling row across the top of the screen only and in no order that made sense to this human, instead of Google's method of displaying all the tiles available in all of the screen real estate that's available, so even if the order the "inactive" ones doesn't make sense, at least I can see 14 of them all at once and only have a little over two pages of them instead of 8 pages of single-row QS tiles to choose what to activate. This is particularly frustrating when using third-party apps to enable better performing QS tiles for WiFi or Mobile Data toggling or other purposes, so I would have more than one nearly identical-looking toggle that would get confusing to choose from, and from what I remember, the custom third-party app-created QS tiles weren't necessarily together or at the very end of the scrolling list.
Despite disabling all background snoozing for particular apps like GMail, Hangouts/Chat, etc, I couldn't get timely notifications of emails and chat. This was particularly troublesome for work, which also uses Google for everything. I opt not to have a work-supplied phone as it would be iOS. As an aside, my coworkers who do have iPhones from work also have trouble with some chat notifications not being obvious or immediate or some such, so that wouldn't necessarily be a solution anyway.
Before the Note 10+ (on the Pixel 1 I used before it), my emails and chat notifications came through immediately. I sometimes got email notifications for work several hours after. I do enough multi-tasking and when I'm very busy I just don't get a chance to flip back to my Chrome GMail window on the computer so I rely on the phone notifications.
Sometimes I would get a phone notification of an email (both personal and work) in the GMail app hours after I had already seen the email in Chrome on the PC and had deleted it or in some cases at least definitely had read it and didn't do anything further with it.
My brother has a Galaxy S9+. This has been his and his big extended family's first smartphones of any kind. When I complained to him about the late or useless Note 10+ GMail and chat notifications, he told me he experiences the exact same thing and he assumed that was just the way Android is.
Factory resets and all disabling of background snoozing of affected apps didn't help at all.
Samsung gimped Do Not Disturb. When DnD came out with (I think it was 5.0 Lollipop), I hated it and gave up on it quickly. I don't remember at what point I started actually using it on the Pixel 1, but they definitely improved it tons. I don't recall exactly what Samsung's implementation was missing but it was very noticeable having come from the Pixel 1 and no longer being able to do some things. I think what Samsung was missing was the ultra-fine granularity of configuration I could do for each and every scheduled and common/unscheduled DnD profile as to what exceptions were allowed to get past DnD. They had some of it implemented but missing enough that it stuck out at the time.
Now that I have the P6P, I can say that the Note 10+'s night mode camera shots were really bad. I think they were worse than even the Pixel 1s'. The P6P does wonders with what little light is available, by comparison.
There may have been more but I can't recall at this time.
I did like the built-in stylus. My wife used hers tons more than I did, but it would be handy for Google Photos' magic eraser and for other things. Samsung owns patents that would keep anyone else's stylus from being quite as useful or convenient, however. If I remember correctly, between Apple and Samsung's stylus patents, everyone else's stylus just can't compare.

The only thing I miss on my 21 Ultra is the 100x zoom, it took some great shots of the moon. I have a 6 Pro but ordered the 7 Pro so I'm excited to see the improvements.
I guess the biggest question I have is what features (besides the 100x zoom) would I lose from the S21 ultra and what from the P7P would I be missing out sticking with the S21U?

The most obvious thing in the direction of what you would be missing from the P7P is Pixel-exclusive features (which normally trickle down to Samsung and others within a few years, but not always).
I love the Google Phone app's native customizable call screening feature for different types of incoming calls (likely spam, not in contacts, first time caller...). Also it's Hold For Me feature is great to avoid dumb, loud, annoying, repetitive hold "muzak". As far as I know, those features haven't made their way to non-Pixels yet, although they wouldn't be specific to the Pixel 7/Pro either.
I also love @siavash79's [MOD][Xposed+Magisk][Pre-Release] AOSP Mods - System modifications for AOSP-based Android 12+ on my rooted Pixel 6 Pro and look forward to finding out if it will need any adjustments to work on the P7P.

Regarding conversation of switching from Samsung to Google:
I personally think although good hardware is very important, we have to note that nowadays most of the phones have good quality hardware on them. (I do agree that Samsung offers the highest quality hardware).
Now, to me (and might be only me), the most important thing to choose a phone is not hardware, but is the "Software" it offers. The ROM should be safe, secure, rich in features, AND supported constantly be OEM.
When it comes to software, I think Samsung is one of the worst with regards to support: It's not open source, updates are very (very) much delayed, and it's too much far away from "original" android experience.
On the contrary (and even though I've personally suffered a lot from Google hardware in the past), Google phones offer everything Samsung doesn't: It's open source, "original" android experience, first to get updates (every single month on 5th), and first to get new Android (at least 6 months before others due to developer and beta releases)
So It's up to you to choose based on your priorities: Best hardware is offered by Samsung, best software is in Pixel
With regards to AOSPMods operating on P7: Since the source code of the ROM is the same as the released A13 source, I don't see why it shouldn't work well from day one: Unless proven otherwise

With regards to both sides, they have their own issues. It's been proven that Samsung phones have a battery bloating issue after a few years of use, and this could be seen as a huge risk considering the batteries in question are lithium-ion, but as long as you don't plan to use it for more than 1-2 years, there should be no issue. The issue with the Pixel series of phones could be considered just as serious depending on your circumstances. I'm not sure if this issue carries onto the Pixel 7, but the Pixel 6a has appauling battery life because of Google's chip, which drains the battery even when on standby, and there's been reports of it dying in your pocket as well.
Just pulled the trigger. I figured worst case scenario I have 14 days to return the P7P if I don't like it.

Truth is the P7 Pro is still lags behind the S22U as far as hardware and performance is concerned.
S22 Ultra vs Pixel 7 Pro
Pros and cons to both. Hopefully the P7's don't come with the software baggage that plagued the P6 release.

Is there any solid backup system for Google Pixel phones (as Apple) ?
I am thinking to move for Pixel because in Samsung there is no reliable method to backup your data !!

Well, all Android phones have a backup system built in that runs automatically in the background. Is there a 3rd party option that might be better? You will have to do a little research and see what's available. But for the average person what comes with Android is adequate. YMMV

Excuse me to disagree with you, There no YMMV in this kind of matter, When you bought a new phone they have to provide a way to transfer all your data as it is for the new one and forcing manufactures to be integrated. For me as natural user have to be feeling safe about my data and not lose it anytime or if the manufacture decide to blackmail user by storage spaces for Example (S22,S22+)
Me as photographer i have a lot of pictures captured by camera with copies after editing and +70GB Whatsapp conversations and there is no way to backup this photos and conversation by authentic way ( tell me about Whatsapp local backup and restore or 99% stuck of cloud).

The Pixel phones used to have free unlimited storage for photos, but it seems to have been ditched with the release of the Pixel 6 series. You're better off buying a usb stick and putting all the data you can on it, or connecting your phone to your computer and backing up your data that way.

Yeah, I have the s22 Ultra and also like taking the moon shots. What's interesting is that, in anticipation of the 7 pro, I tried dialing back the s22 ultra zoom to 30x. I think the pix at 30x were better than those at higher zoom, so I'm hopeful the 7 pro zoom will still be pretty good.

I do have multiple paths.
And I have a short makefile that synchronizes my Android(s) with the desktop using my AdbSync.exe (in the sig).
Of course you coud use batch (or shell) files and plain old ADB.
I currently have Samsung S22 Ultra. I was a devoted Note fan until the Note 7 and fire-starting issue. I have owned every pixel model since the beginning. Got rid of the 6 because of the bugs. My initial units of the 5 and 6 pro had hardware issues and needed to be exchanged, so I did not take Google's trade in offer on my ultra.
I love the ultra because of the spen (I have big fat fingers), but prefer the pixel os and it's exclusive features over One UI. Not a fan of the Sammy's photo processing either. My 7 Pro comes today and I will use it for a while to decide which one to keep.
Thank God for Swappa or I would be broke from buying the latest greatest smart phones!
