Hi all,
So thing is I just bought this magnificent smartphone but I'm having a hard time using the SD card for apps.
Apparently I cannot use it to install full apps but just additional files, but when even I try to install those I get error messages.
I have a 128gb sd card that I used to have on my note4 and have never had issues. I formatted it twice already.
Am i supposed to format it in a specific format?
See screenshots. Any suggestion is very much appreciated.
Thanks
I also don't know how to move apps from internal storage to the sd card. I never had that issue on any other phone. One would think with Android 6.0 that would be possible. Its almost a reason to give up this phone. I already asked on other Websites, never got a reply. With all the smart people here, someone must know something.
I would appreciate any help.
Thx in advance.

Well... I've been digging and I found out that the mate 8 doesn't support moving apps to sd but one can only install on sd.
I think sd needs to be formatted in a specific way to be used for apps... Wonder what format?

Greetings XDA members ;
Few days ago, I was trying to format my sandisk microSD XC with a casual card reader through windows using exfat as the file system with unchecked Fast Format check box, so the process took over 5 minutes & i was in a hurry, i cancelled the process to get surprised that the memory can't be formatted either by my phone ( Note 2) or windows & when i try to format it shows a message " read only, check card... blablabla"
Showing that the file system is RAW
Anyone could give me any solution or + feedback please?
Thanks in advance.

I am losing faith that this great community could help me :-\
I just want to add that even my sd is a RAW filed system but i found an app which can pull old files from RAW like recovery apps, so i guess it is not totally hopeless sd
TY
Your best bet would be to use a real formatting tool like gpart.
You can download it as a live CD or install within a Linux OS

PhoeniX ROM v.11
RedPill Kernel
Hi Guys,
I've been searching through the CM10.2 forum for gt-i9505 to see if there is support for moving apps to the external sd card, but have found no information. I also don't know how to access my external SD card with CM File Manager. Can anyone help me out? I would appreciate all the help. Cheers!:fingers-crossed:
have you found a solution for this?
I'm facing the same.
The only person who gave me the info I was looking for was BassMadrigal in the CyanogenMod.org website forum. He said that it has not been on CM since CM7 and will not likely be added again because it is a waste of time. His explanation was something about sharing partitions. Sounded to me like the apps aren't really getting moved to SD, just a part of them. Hope this helps ya, man.

My friend try this
As the title says I'm trying to swap the phones internal memory with my 32gb Sd card but I can't figure how to do it. I tried the methods from stock ROM and CM but neither worked. If anyone can help here out would be much appreciated.

No, because Omni is 2 months old (not just for our phone, it was made 2 months ago in general). Maybe some of expirienced devs can tell you, but ones who are not that expirenced can't explain you how to do it.
By the way, did you try with some methods that works on CM 10.2?
Well I don't really know how to do it. I tried this (it worked in CM) in build.prop and it didn't work in Omni.
persist.sys.vold.switchexternal=1
ro.vold.switchablepair=/storage/sdcard0,/storage/sdcard1
I will try to search around some more but I doubt I can find the solution.

Open storage folder in system folder of root. And see if names are sdcard0/1. Maybe on Omni it is changed...
They are exactly like that.

Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426804
By that, you cannot do anything... Unless you implement it in kernel.
P.S. And definitely from some other post:
Kernel for switching internal & external SD
Because vold.fstab is no longer used and has been integrated in fstab.aries (which can only be changed before compiling the kernel, as it ends up in the ramdisk), I made a special kernel version with switched SD cards.

Guess that means I'm going back to a lower android because I doubt our devs will modify the kernel at this stage just for this since they have more important stuff. Thank you very much for that.

I guess you can do it by an init.d script, re mounting partitions as you want after boot
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda app-developers app
Well I probably have no clue how to do that but I'll dig around. I'm just glad there might be a chance for swap to work.
Edit: Well I managed to solve my storage problem in some other way. Will share here if some other people need this. I used FolderMount app from playstore for all my large games. Free version only supports 3 folder mounts (that means 3 large games/apps etc) but I already bought the paid version, that unlocks everything, since it really solves all my issues. I can now stay happy on OmniROM!

Just wanted to ask if any body knows what's happened to add to SD option. I recently rooted my tab2 and now running 4.3 with slim bean first thing I noticed I had to reformat my SD to fat32 as exfat is no longer recognized.. Then I noticed no app to SD.
This is not a major issue but I did find it handy and would really like to get this back if possible so any help or tips would be appreciated.
Oh andi have tried a few other ROMs as well. None have this option.
Apart from that the ROMs pretty dam good

Hey bud I'm running into the same problem on my tablet I have the sph-p500 version from sprint I'm still running the stock rom cause I guess there's nothing out yet for this version but I've done all the formatting for the extend are and using link2sd not app2sd it still won't let you move apps to ext sd but you can link the folders to free up alittle space I'm new to android and to this site but it seems to me like people on here are alittle weary about talking to junior members it sucks because I could really use there advice in the most recent versions of android the primary sd card is emulated therefore will not alow ext to be primary due to security reasons
Hello mate sorry for the mega late reply I work offshore. I come to think now its just not possible to appto SD but hey never mind my pad has plenty storage its just a shame I cannot utilize the 64gb SD card I have lol never mind I will keep searching for a solve.

Apps 2 sd is only possible if you're running stock firmware jb 4.2.2.
If you want to move apps, use link2sd but you need to make partition in your external sd.
I notice I can't delete anything or copy anything to the sd card. Any one else notice this problem.

Have you tried using a 3rd party file manager like ES File manager?
same problem, using solid explorer and it just gives me error but no explanation why, really annoyed
Yes says it deleted successfully but files still there

That has to do with kitkat and security issues with sd card's. Root should solve that.

Same here. If I try to copy anything from my Download folder to the SD I get an error. As someone else noted, I believe this is related to KitKat.
I haven't had an issue. using 64 gb sdcard. I have deleted photos and etc but not through an explorer

I can manage files on the SD card with a computer and MTP, but not through ES File Explorer.

Is your SD card new or from another device? This has happened in 3 recent devices. My note 2, G Pad 8.3 GPE and M8. By the time I got to the M8, it was more to confirm the issue than anything as I'd already ordered my 64gb Samsung pro $45. So, if I use an SD card that was previously used in another device, the problem your having, always occurs. I put it in the OG device I used it in, no problems. I've tried formatting the SD in a computer and the devices, but still no go. Only putting a new one in works.. well, I'm sure there has to be a fix. I've just never really researched it. I don't know what causes this but I can't imagine this not being fixable. Have you had any results from a Google search?

Okay, I can't delete either..now. or maybe ever. I don't know if I my pictures on there and assumed I was good but definitely can't delete using a file manager. I can delete pictures from the gallery but not file manager. I have a SanDisk 64gb I'm gonna try. Maybe it's brand and HTC doesn't like Samsung.

I have SanDisk 64GB, so that's not the issue. The problem is Google's security changes to SD permissions. You can delete from within apps because they were coded to elevate the required permissions. Once we have root, we'll be able to access the SD card through /mnt/sdcard2 and write/delete to our heart's content.

The fix... once you guys have root.. will be the same as it is on other HTC phones getting kitkat
1. Using a root-enabled file manager, navigate to /system/etc/permissions
2. Edit platform.xml and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add an additional group definition for this permission...<group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save the changes to the file.
5. Restart.
