None of the apps I've tried work; but the chipset has one included according to the specs Ive see.
I suspect that its like when I had the Nexus One; its chipset also included it but it was not "activated," it had to have a kernel that enabled it and app loaded to use it...
I wish there was more development for these phones...

can I use the sense camera on AOKP? I really like the battery life on it but I cant stand the camera
It's dependent on the sense framework. So, nope.

yes but make sure first that it is compatible with the rom you're running.
I have the HTC One X (At&t) and my phone has been rooted and unlocked. I'm running Viper XL 3.2.8 with the 3.17 radio, H-boot 1.14 and S-ON. I have heard about the Elemental X radio and also the 2.2 radio (via the Venom Hub on my phone). I'm not sure if they are the same or if they are different developers. I have heard from other forums that upgrading the radio will increase my signal strength and battery life. My question is, is this true and can anyone recommend any of these to me or if there are better ones? I will be updating my phone from S-ON to S-OFF soon.

You're confusing Kernel's and Radios. You're on the latest radio. There is no upgrade. I don't suggest flashing kernels if you don't know what they are and what they do.

Sorry for the bad question, I should have said that I want to upgrade to Elemental X and 2.2 radio, I know the Elemental X is a kernel and the radio is the frequency (signal) of the phone. So even though the Venom Hub has a 2.2 radio, it is not compatible with my phone? Is the Elemental X compatible with my phone, with the ViperXL 3.2.8?

You can flash any sense radio you like, worst case scenario, it won't work and you'll have to flash another radio. Kernels and radios are independent of eachother. Any Sense kernel will work with viperXL.
I don't recommend flashing anything through viperhub. It's dangerous since you don't have the file for yourself and cannot verify the MD5.

Thanks for the info, I was not planning on flashing through the viperhub, I have TWRP and will be flashing through it. Is there any kernels you would recommend that will improve performance and battery life. I saw the details on ElementalX and does that well but I would rather get recommendations if any.

I do not find much increase in performance or battery life simply from flashing a kernel, I usually flash kernels for the features.
Does anyone have a method to flash just new camera? I had Viper XL, which had a great camera - but don't want viper XL any longer. I flashed to a stock JB rom, and miss the great camera that it had. Any way to upgrade the camera??

Viper xl isn't sense 5.. is it? I was on 3.2.8 and it was only 4+

1. Viper is Sense 4, as already stated.
2. What do you mean by stock? If Sense 4, then yeah, you should be able to. If Sense 5/AOSP-based... No.

As the title states, I would love to see a sense 5 ROM ported from one of the newer Desire series (300,600,700 etc) to our ageing Desire S.
a willing tester here if anyone is up for it.
I can see there is one for the Desire HD which is essentially the same spec as our device.
Regards
Dyno

I really want to do some porting for the Desire S, but I don't have one. I already ported Carbon 4.3, but I had to end that project because of the lack of a testing device. If anyone has a Desire S they don't want anymore and they are willing to donate it to me, you can expect a lot of Desire HD roms to come to the Desire S.
If you want to see my previous work, check out the Nexus One dev forums
Porting sense 5, there is one major problem and thats why id say no one has already tried, sense 5 is jellybean so we would need a new kernel to support sense and jb, im not sure exactly but the main issue would be the kernel and i think @kylon (kernel dev) doesnt have a desire s anymore either and he was prob our best bet for the kernel.

yh would be good coz theres not really much happening on the ds recently, most devs have moved on
Why don't you look out for a damaged one and get the parts from parts4repair.com ?
I find the DS one of best repairable devices I know so far.
All you need is a T5 and a PH00 Screwdriver and a guitar pick for some things
If you need some internal repair documents, I can provide you with some.
mygamers seems to be working on a Desire S Sense 5 ROM.
Considering he made a very good Sense 4.1 Lite ROM I am looking forward to his version.

He hasn't mentioned porting it to the desire s, and seeing as we don't have a kernel capable of running jb+sense, I think it's highly unlikely that it ever will get ported.
Well atleast some ones trying to port.....

I seen there's an ION capable kernel on the desire HD forum so maybe it's possibe to port it...
There's hope still!
Hope someone do this... Would be very nice!! F**** ION kernel

it will be even better to make it working on MDDI devices, I dont need a newer device, DS' performance is enough for my needs, but Im stuck with ICS, its like being stuck with Vista on computer and can not upgrade to 7 or 8
what happen to this port , completed or not still not released

There is no radio app supported in CM ROMS yet. IDK cuz I've not found any suitable yet!
But if you still want to listen RADIO then i'll suggest you to use Sense Based Roms (Both stock/custom 3.5 & 4/4.1)
spirit 1 http://d-h.st/H4x
I use SpiritFM and it's flawless, better even than stock radio app, Just remeber to grant it root access.
