So i bought a moto g3 2gb version a month back, it has lollipop preinstalled. Now i would like to update to marshmallow but after reading reviews that marshmallow battery is not as good as lollipop I'm a bit scared to update. As currently I'm getting 6 hours of SOT with 24 hours of battery life on lollipop and that's amazing and i don't want to lose this. So my question is basically should i update or not?
My major concern is battery life....... are you guys suffering from bad battery life on marshmallow.
Thanks for your answers.

Everyone's experience is different... Some people say battery life is the same (I'm in that group), some say better or worse. With this device there is no right answer from a battery life standpoint.
Now, on the issue of features, big difference... If you have apps on the SD card and want to keep portable storage, stay on lollipop, it's not possible to have both in Marshmallow, but in Marshmallow you can adopt the SD card as internal storage but that makes it unreadable in any other device and requires a pretty solid, fast (UHS1 rated or better) card.
It's a toss up, but unless there is a huge sticking point, I recommend doing it.

What provider are you with (if any)?
I can appreciate a long-lasting battery better than most. In November I got jumped, beat up, and stabbed in the gut. Spent the night in the hospital, and only the huge 3300mAh battery in my Droid Razr Maxx kept me in touch with my family and friends that could help me. My current phone doesn't have a big battery, but I carry a spare.
so any of the top phone you can recommend?
Hello!
I love my Nexus 5 but i think the battery is a little to small!
Is it worth it to buy the g2 insteed? What i can see is it a n5 with better battery, well more bloatware but a rom can fix that!
What u guys say is it worth to change?
I'm using my Nexus 5 as a daily driver since the day it was launched and battery life has been enough for me. 3 hours SOT - the battery lasts a whole day I experienced a bit less battery life on stock ROM though. I guess I could tweak it a bit more now and maybe even reach 3,5h SOT. Running CM12 and franco.Kernel - awesome combination!
I wouldn't trade it for a G2 because I really enjoy the development for our flagship
was real excited to get the s6 on Verizon. I ordered it last night but now I'm undecided and feel like I should cancel it because I keep reading on here that the battery drains like mad for no reason. I have the HTC one m7 right now and the battery sucks. What do you guys think? I don't have much time to cancel. I've also read some stuff about how calls drop bcuz something is different now. Like you can't use data and talk on the phone with the same time unless you're on lte.

Everybody will have a different experience with battery life. Mine is perfectly fine, but the ones with problems are always more vocal in forums because they're unhappy and try to find a solution while the others just quietly enjoy their new device. You'll always find more complaints in forums than positive posts.
Just give it a try if you can. I don't know how US carrier handle it, but usually there should be a way to return it if you're not happy during the first days or weeks.
I don't think everyone has a battery drain. Seems to be intermittent issues. The battery life isn't the best but it isn't terrible and the turbo charge is very good. The critics will always speak out more than the supporters. I am very happy with my S6 Edge from Verizon. The only real complaint I have is that whenever I use multitasking it always refreshes when I go back into an app, which I'd imagine will be fixed. I really think thats a lollipop issue anyway.

I went from a HTC One m7 to the S6 and I get around 4-5 hours of screen on time compared to around 3 hours on the m7. I should note that both phones is/was on pretty good cell coverage here in Denmark. So I wouldn't worry about the battery life. Also the Quick charge feature more or less stops me worrying about battery life. And as others have stated in the thread, there really isn't no battery drain no more. 4-5 hours of screen on time is just what you get with a 5" screen and this size battery. It's not magic
Anyways, everything else is an upgrade from the m7, I haven't discovered any showstoppers and I really, really like the fingerprint scanner.
I also came from the M7. I have zero regrets. I'm already used to the non-removable stroage/battery so that's no big deal. The quick charging IS AMAZING. You won't worry about battery as much as you think you will.
If I can add, when I first started using my S6 I was a little disappointed with the battery life. As time went by, I kept tweaking the phone which made the battery life better. Just reading on forums and looking at what other people have done. Now I've got the perfect balance and my battery life is amazing. Out of all the phone's I've ever had, it's the best so far and I get 2-3 days normal use out of one charge.
Thanks for the responses guys... I went ahead with the order. Now I just hope 32 gb is enough.. I don't use tons of apps and I like to keep my phone clean without tons of stuff. My Spotify music on my phone now doesn't even take up 1gb and can't I just start transferring my pics to my laptop so I don't have to have them all saved on my phone?
Do you think it's likely that a future update with further the battery life more? I read tons of reviews on Verizon s6 on the Verizon site and literally every person days the battery sucks.. It's weird. Hopefully I don't get a messed up screen like I've seen some have got. Should be here tomorrow..

Battery drain is if you root, it's broken at the moment.

you need to keep in mind a few people on the forums doesn't mean everyone in the world is effected. People who are perfectly happy don't go on the internet looking to b!tch about something. The majority of posts will come from negative experiences. I've bet you've seen countless "Why does my phone stutter" or "Why is my battery draining so fast" threads, but you'll never see the "my phone works perfect" or "my battery lasts as long as it should" threads.
My experience is positive with the battery.
In the beginning it was really no good then I rooted the phone and installed XtreStoLite Rom and now I can face two days without charging the phone.
Exceptional.
I hope you do know that upcoming 5.1.1 fixes all the battery issues even with 5.0.2 I'm fine with my battery life.

You positive about that? As long as the battery is better than my HTC One m7 I'll be happy. I plan on getting a probable battery pack too. Do you really think this is the fastest phone out right now?

Yeah, there have been talks on this forum about some operator's early 5.1.1 update on S6 Edge and people reported improved battery life. Also, RAM management issues should be fixed together with 5.1.1, also adding RAW support to the camera.
About it being the fastest phone, I'm not sure, but it's pretty fast. You see, I switched from an iPhone 4 so it's plenty fast for me. Should be one of the fastest out there due to new faster ram technology (LPDDR4 if I recall correctly, all the other phones have LPDDR3 at the moment).

Mine none stock. I can take it off charge at 6am and about 2ish I need to charge but the fast charger in less than a hour I'm at a 100%
Still disappointed Sammy did that but live goes on
We probably hear the issues most often not so much the good experiences. I absolutely love my 32GB phone on ATT.
My HTC One m7 gets laggy once I'm almost to 32gb full I noticed... Like once I hit around 20gb full it starts lagging. Will the 32gb s6 Do that too?

I'm really struggling choosing a new phone. Have a dying G2 which was an excellent phone especially when it came to battery life. I've been searching for a more up to date alternative and this phone comes up when it comes to battery life. I was going through the forum though and I've been seeing lots of people with huge battery drains and 2 to 3 hours of SOT. That's what I get with my G2 that has a battery that has seen too many charging cycles. Now, I know that someone without a problem won't be posting how great the battery is so I'm not sure how prevalent this issue might be.
So, how is battery life on this phone without having to mess around with it? Prices have gone down but it is still a bit of money, I would rather get something that just worked for the next 3 years (like the LG did). I've looked into more recent and expensive options with the SD820 or the Kirin 955, suposedly a lot more power efficient SoCs but I don't see the numbers reflecting this. The Z5 comes pretty close if not even better than an S7, P9, OP3, etc.
I've also had this idea that, regardless of the generation, the SD810 was pretty bad on battery life and heating issues leading to a quicker dying phone so now I'm confused.
Opinions and suggestions would be most helpful! :highfive:
I have a Z2 and a Z5 now my Z2 easily runs 6hrs SOT every single day and also seems faster than my z5 (except in Games or poorly optmised apps)
Now my z5 on the other hand only manages 4hrs SOT but with some minor tweaking the ui can become very fluid yet to find a solution to bad battery
My suggestions:
Nexus 6P
Xperia Z3
Lg G4
Xperia z5 (if you are fine with 4hrs SOT)
Also note that z5s not so impressive battery life can be to blame of the million or two wakelocks in the current firmware so a update may fix this

Thanks! I actually think I made a mistake in my research and was looking at Z3 numbers. Doesn't do me much good as I can't find a new 32GB version of the thing for sale here in Europe. Used, sure, but I would be risking having the same issues pretty soon.
You recommended the G4? I've asked about that phone here on G4 forum also and a lot of people report some pretty bad battery times. It's a shame as it would be the perfect choice for me if it wasn't for that. If I wasn't so suspicious of its battery performance I wouldn't even consider any other phone. A lot of people reported times I never had on the G2 though, that's why this is so confusing.
6P is just huuuuge for me!

Thanks!! :good:
I have to buy a new smartphone and i'm stuck with 2 choices: honor 8 (i see everywhere positive reviews) and lg g5 se (here people are divided in: it has a good battery/it doesn't, it's a good phone-modularity is the future/it's a crappy phone and modularity is dumb).
Personally i like more the aspect of the lg g5 rather than honor 8... However i want a phone with a good battery capacity, good camera and good hardware.
So who can help me in this "tough" decision?!
Honor 8 all the way. The G5 SE as i know dont have any development comunity and it's not that good as Honor 8. Look ar reviews on youtube for more details.
Honor 8 FTW.
Thanks guys!!!
But when you come to Point that you need new battery, LG G5 Se is much better solution it has removable battery, which is so rare these Days. I finish using my honor 8 and go back to LG G5 Se (buying new one)
If you're not "scared" about non removable battery, then focus your choice on Honor 8, great smartphone still those days, even if it's two years old. Now you can get it (at least in italy) for 199€ wich is a GREAT price for an octacore, 4gb ram, dual cam, and oreo coming phone. Even more considering that the launch price was around 500€.
Don't let the battery replacement be your deciding factor. You'll most likely be ready to replace the phone before you need another battery. I've owned a lot of phones, most heavily used and I've never had a battery go bad. They do go bad but it's so small of a percentage that it shouldn't be a factor.
Performance:
LG G5 SE has a less powerful SoC (Mid-range Snapdragon 652) in terms of performance, but maybe it'll be better with battery life (which also depends on software). While Honor8 has a Kirin 950 which is a high-end SoC.
Both phones are able to run Android 7.0 Nougat with official OTA.
Honor has 4GB while the G5 SE has 3GB.
Battery
Battery on my Honor 8 running Nougat (EMUI 5.0.1) is pretty good. I get 100%-20% (which is something about ~5h30m SoT) -> using a lot Instagram, Whatsapp and watching Youtube videos throughout the day.
Honor's battery has more mAh capacity than the LG's. Again, software is a big deal when comes to battery life.
Updates:
I don't know about LG G5 SE OTA updates, but Huawei/Honor is still delivering security patch updates. Currently using Google's January security patch, will be getting March security patch within this month. (Maybe Honor8 will get Oreo update soon).

How did you get those great statistics?
For me, same usage, Whatsapo, IG, Deezer and Chrome and Honor8 barely survive afternoon.
There are some good battery results but my ain't oneof them.

4 pm 10%
Sot 3 hours max(combined wifi and data 50%/50%)
I definitely wouldn't buy honor again, and I'd pass on the G5 for sure. Surely you can find other choices?

Well first I don't overcharge my phone, always charge it at the end of the day - before sleep. Go to sleep with 100% and wake up with like 96%ish (that's because I like to watch some videos before sleep lol). By this I mean, I just charge my phone once a day so this way the battery capacity don't decrease that fast.
Today was a light-usage kinda day for my phone. Just watched some Youtube, social media, Chrome and Whatsapp. 3h15min SoT, still have 42% remaining. From 100% (1am) to 42% (11pm).
One more thing, I have all my apps (except Whatsapp) closed while screen off (background).
So if you have all apps closed while screen off and had your phone updated, this means you got a faulty battery.
Both are out of date.
If no others choice. Then Honor 8 or v8. I think is better.
I'm probably going to stay away from honor for multiple reasons including slow updates, inconsistent news about whether honor 8 will get oreo, and decreased availability in the U;S. as now Best Buy is dropping the line. Huawei seriously needs to do something about their USA footprint with their failures in getting carriers to adopt their phones. Essential phone is looking pretty good for my next purchase.

When I first got mine, it would perform like that. Think I was on B388.
Lately, I've got 4.5hr SOT on avg.
Just updated to B391 yesterday.
Will post my battery results soon
As for the O.P's question, I'd go with the Honor 8 (this is coming from someone who ran they several LG G series phones
