No.
Once warranty is void (gone), you can't get it back.
Warranty is a legal term not something physical.

Your warranty is only gone if the manufacturer knows that you were rooted. If you send back a phone that looks stock, you are good to go.

No, your warranty is gone as soon as you do something that voids it, i.e. software modification.
It doesn't matter who knows.
Thats like saying something isn't a crime until someone knows of it. Of course it is still a crime, but if no one knows, nothing will be done about it.

You are good to go to obtain free repair by fraud.
If the manufactor, repaircenter or anyone else cares... thats a different story.
I'm just sick of reading "flash X to get your warranty back", thats just bs.

Who is to decidem what is wrong and what is right....

Have you ever said atleast one lie in your life.....then you are a liar through out your entire life....I am not saying this.......its another form of your own philosophical logic.....
what is wrong and what is right......what is justice and what is injustice.....don't think in terms of good and bad.......good for some is always bad for some other, isn't it?
I contacted somebody on craigslist about a nexus 5. He said it was running cyanogenmod 11 and he said that he didn't like it and was going to put it back to stock. He then messages me saying that something went wrong and that the phone is bricked. I ask him a few questions.. Is the bootloader unlocked, was usb debugging checked before it was bricked, can you get into recovery. He said yes to all of them. He then tells me that he was using nexus root toolkit. But run parallels on his Mac. So the commands are never the same. So the question I have do you think that it's fixable before I go and buy it. He was selling it for 250 but after the brick i told him I would buy it for 200.
If he has used a toolkit not meant for the Nexus 5, there's a good chance that his bootloader and other partitions might have got corrupted. Since he's telling you that he can get into recovery, why doesn't he just flash CM11 which might take him out of the bootloop? Sounds fishy.
Besides that, you know there won't be any warranty for this, right??
If I were you, I would stay away from such a deal. It's your call though.
If it turns on in one way or another it's hardly "bricked" lol.
How much is a digitizer worth? If it's truly bricked that's all that it would be worth to sell it as parts. I might risk it for $100

Yeah I knew that there wouldn't be a warranty for this, I don't think any of my last few phones had a warranty so I am not worried about that. I have a few hours to decide.

Personally I would just buy a brand new one off Google, no risk of "bricked" (lol) phones from other people, and it's not too much more (in comparison to other devices). Plus you get warranty :silly:

You could meet him somewhere with WiFi, like Starbucks. Then try to flash a stock Rom and see if everything on the phone works. If it were me I'd just buy a new one tho.

Yea most likely I am going to head to swappa.
It could have other issues. What if its black listed, and he tried to brick it so no one can test it.
What if it turns on, but it got water damage and something else is wrong.
What if there's a hardware failure for sound or radio or anything.
Can't test much in the state its in. I say you're basically gambling.

So I took the gamble and decided to meet the guy.. He worked at AT&T, met him at his store, that was a plus and not in some alley lol. I had my laptop with me and after I bought it. I tried to unbrick it. I unbricked it. It's working flawlessly, checked the ESN on swappa and it's not blacklisted. It was a risky gamble but it did work out. Thanks for all the help on here.

How do you brick a nexus device? If you say toolkit I give up.
Such sad news, I literally got my device today!
The problem for me is that even though I could unlock my device now, the pull of users and developers to this device is going to plummet to zero on xda , there won't be any (or very few) ROM's, adopters will avoid the device... It's a horrible move from huawei who have a sponsor partnership with xda?? Xda have said they're going to fight it but my guess is huawei may look at their wallet rather than their hearts and stick to their guns.
By all accounts it's "to provide a better service". ???
I have a cooling off period for another 13 days.
If things don't change in a week I'm sending this wonderful opportunity phone back.
Never again

Going to give it a chance.

In the same boat mate, received the phone on Wednesday, got the bootloader unlock code sitting in my email index waiting to be used....and now I see this.
In two minds about the whole thing, on one hand love the phone it seems pretty damn great to me, only want to root for 2 issues (not fault of phone, just personal preference) but on the other hand, lack of ability to unlock bootloader will kill the community here. Do I keep it, unlock and just roll with it, or do I send it back and get something else (Galaxy Note or S9+ probably, community there aint dead lol)?
Have to have a good think about it over the weekend I think.

Avoid the galaxy unless you like baggage and more rules, if I was to buy another phone it would be the HTC 12, no doubt about it.
Personally I've used the unlock code twrp installed and I'm rooted.
Phones a beast, I personally think Huawei will decide against their decision, by all accounts HTC did the same and look what happened to them
Currently looking at debranding from the L09 to the L29 as updates are more timely. Either that or wait for some ROMs to drop.
I'm keeping it now, it's swayed me.
Although I'd I could get the HTC I'd do it in a heartbeat, epic development on XDA.

Since the phone is treble enabled we can use GSI. So theres no "real" need to have an active development community dedicated for this phone only.

You don't necessarily need to convert from L09 to L29 to get faster updates, you just need to change region from 782 to 432. The L09 & L29 firmwares are interchangeable and are released together but it's UK specific updates that are lagging behind.
Saying that, I don't think there's a way to convert to 432 without being converted to L29 in the process anyway lol

Keep hold of the bootloader unlock code you got as if they go ahead with removing the service, they're likely to release updates in the future that will relock unlocked bootloaders on install. You should be able to re-unlock with the same code but it's a pain as an update won't wipe data but then having to re-unlock will ?

There's another site that does them.

Just ordered the P20 Pro today after I upgraded my partners one yesterday to the P20. Its looks a fantastic phone so I had to go one better and get the pro. I got the unlock code for hers and will request mine tomorrow. Is there any need to use the unlock code? I don't plan on hoping for a better ROM as the stock one looks pretty reasonable to me.

It is but rooting etc has its benefits, you've only got to go on a few threads here to see that.
Plus who knows what the future holds plus treble is always an option
Anyone else here on C782 in the United Kingdom and still on 110 while everyone else is either on 120 or 128.
This needs to be improved by huawei as the P20 Pro has been a success within the United Kingdom
yep.. i have the l29 from three and on 110
just thinking to rebrand because of this
I read somewhere that unfortunately the networks need to approve the updates before they're pushed out as well which obviously adds more to the process. It's so ridiculous that Huawei chose to work this way with the UK model.
In the same boat myself, thinking of debranding.
Not totally sure if after de-branding you'll need another code to unlock again if the bootloader locks down.
If that's the case and they stop the codes then you'll end up without the ability to unlock the phone again.

Also.. Does this effect the LTE frequencies used or VoLTE and WiFi calling that are sometimes specific to particular regions?

Oooh I don't think I'd get the pixel 2 mate.
Why not debrand your p20 and give it a chance, better things are coming im certain of that, I mean I hop between devices usually once a year or more because I get bored so fast so I know what you mean but I think it'd be too soon to commit to another phone. Unless you can cover the entire cost of the device.
People in the US may buy it, I'd grab an unlock code just in case too :good:
If your hearts set on a pixel, wait for the three, you'll hate having the 2 the second you see their new one. There's quite a difference between them.

Yes it's an odd move not sure on full story or reason behind this decision it's not handy at all , i read a while ago this may be happening luckly it popped up on a feed today and as I only got my honor 10 yesterday I quickly got my code just incase Inthe future I want to root and try a custom ROM , but again this decision may kill of development for new devices I came from a OnePlus 6 and they have the right idea in gifting 36 OnePlus 6 to Devs for development , I'm now contemplating if I made a good choice . Lol I just found 1+6 to big and bulky for work

Yes that's right since 5.0 just make sure info all correct and product ID etc I did mine this morning and got it first time should work , hopefully this won't be the case and they will change there minds on this silly idea they will loose a lot of sales I think in future surely that's not good business sense

Someone will find a method to generate the code or to unlock bootloader without the code, just wait
There is a way all ready some tool you can purchase for a fee but it's a right long winded way, I'm sure they will change there view once sales decline lol

Was planning to ask for the unlock code, but....
"Unlocking the bootloader may result in unpredictable consequences for your device, including but not limited to those listed above. The user shall be held responsible in the event that the device malfunctions and cannot be recovered. Huawei will record your unlock request information; for software and hardware failures arising as a result of unlocking the bootloader, Huawei repair centers can provide repair services charged at the standard rate for repair work outside the scope of the warranty."
I'll prefer paying for an unlock app if I decide i need to one day, rather than losing my warranty for a code I'll probably never use.
If the hardware in your device starts malfunctioning - doesn't matter if 3rd party rom caused it, or if you even ever used a 3rd party rom...
chance is: huawei is going to put the blame on a 3rd party rom.
Wouldn't Huawei be better off if they kept offering the unlock codes? That way, if somebody screws up their device,
Huawei will know it's registered as an unlocked device and will not have to repair it for free
Guess they didn't think it through properly.
They stop the process of offering the codes because many people bricked their phone in the flashing/unlocking procedure and i think it were many complaints about this. So they think its a saftey measure.
I don't think requesting the code voids warranty I had a honor 9 lite that I applied for the code never actually used it had an issue later on were it would keep randomly re booting and switching off when used camera was replaced no issue under the 2 year warranty

After they get their code and try roms and sh*t they brick their phone, not prior to that
Your warranty is voided after you use the code, its not like at Xioami, the bootloader will pe RELOCKED, not locked. So they can see that you used it.
I still cant get it, so i just stoped trying.
well the disclaimer is clear. when they "think" its caused by rooting (even if you never did) then you might have bo warranty because they can see who asked for the unlock code.

like those ppl who have malfunctioning hardware in phone, a phone that absolutely never got wet,
send it to repair and receive the message that "their phone got wet, repair will cost 90% of original price and if they want phpne back unrepaired then they need to pay 50$ for inspection and shipping costs...
their word against yours
