Since it is official that the Note 10.1 will be available tomorrow I thought I would pose the question since I am having trouble making the decision. Note taking on the tab is important to me, probably in my top 4 needs. I have not had much success with my stylus choice,as of yet, for SuperNote on the infinity or the prime when I owned it. My finger has been the best pen. Question is, does anyone recommend a stylus that makes note taking extra smooth on the infinity with Supernote as it would compare to the 10.1 or samsung note experience? Thoughts?

For note taking, I would recommend just using the dock for the infinity. I am sure the Galaxy Note 10.1 will be very good for handwritten notes. However, I had some issues with the Galaxy Note phone in terms of calibration of the pen and some lag. Maybe this will be fixed on the 10.1 tablet.
I'd think the Wacom digitizer on the Note 10.1 (rather than the stylus alone) would give you a better note taking experience on the Samsung Note 10.1 than the Transformer Infinity.
If you must have handwritten notes, the Note 10.1 is the way to go. If you can type, try to go for an Infinity (or even TF300) with the keyboard dock.
My Decision
I posted this in another thread but felt the need to post here as well since I started this thread. Thank you all for your input
I have struggled with this decision since I traded my 201 for the infinity. I knew that the 10.1 would come out during my 30 day exchange so was not too concerned. I want and need to take notes on my pad but also use it for entertainment. The soft sided stylus just does not cut it, although I think supernote is a real good program. My best stylus was my finger. I asked for recommendations in another post and am happy to report that the adonit jot pro is a winner with my infinity.
I believe that the infinity is hands down a better product than the samsung ( I do have a minor drop out issue with wifi that I still have not isolated but believe I can fix with some tweeks to my home network, being it is the only place I have minor issue) . The jot pro works perfect. Had to get rid of the zagg screen protector and am looking for a suitable replacement ( anyone have any ideas) because the the zagg is too sticky. With the jot and supernote it exceeds all of my needs.
Main Deciding factors:
Jot and supernote sufficiently re-create s pen experience.
FULL HD on Infinity
ASUS commitment to upgrade Operating System
Option of using TF keyboard
HD out on Infinity
I believe true multi tasking in Android is less than six months away for all so that feature is short lived for Samsung
Tired of changing tabs.
Had the note included resolution to match the newer tablets then I'd have considered it even with a hundred dollar increase. When I get a chance to play with it then maybe I will change my mind.
I say stick with the infinity just because Asus updates their devices way more often than Samsung. The galaxy S II didn't get ICS until relatively recently for example. Absurd given the Galaxy S II was their flagship device a mere 6 months ago.

Honestly, there are several hands on and deep impressions out there. Doesn't sound very impressive. Part of me was considering exchanging the tf700 for it, not anymore.
its a hard question because the tegra 3 turned out to not be as good as everyone expected it to be, the quad exynos sounds amazing however. but after the .26 update fixed i/o the infinity is very fast and the browsing is much better than the prime, but in my experience samsung has an excellent browser performance. you should go check the note out in a store if you are seriously considering getting the note. i personally think the infinity is a much better tablet because of the screen, the faster updates, the metal build quality, and the dock. the note is still a very good tablet though
I would have definitely got the note if it wasn't for the resolution. Those processors are beast.

Reviews are not very good so far. Verge hammered it. Ah well, every device has it's fans on xda I hope you guys who grab one enjoy it.
Note build quality is good. Thin and light. Screen decent. Feels much more responsive than the TF700.
Display not as nice as the Asus but I will take the better performance over the screen. Pen is nice but not sure how useful it will be . I like the dual front facing speakers. Quite loud.
Ran a couple of benchmarks .... for comparison sakes only.

I too debated between the two tablets. I had the HTC Jetstream, which also had an active stylus, and the Galaxy Note phone. In the end, I found that handwritten notes were not as efficient as using a keyboard. Also, handwriting recognition apps are just too frustrating. I am sold on the Transformer series with the dock. I really like having the tablet propped up in the traditional laptop fashion. I do like that the Note tablet has 2 GB of RAM, which I wish the Inifinity had. I have 2 GB of RAM on my Galaxy S3 phone and I find that I don't worry about killing apps in the background. I am sure 1 GB is fine though.
Regarding a screen protector, I got the clear Acase protector from Amazon. It went on very easily and I don't even notice it. Also, it works just fine with the dock, so I definitely recommend it.

I was debating between the two tabs too...I've decided on neither.
Like the previous Asais tabs, Infinity still has built quality issues, flash memory speed hasn't increased and the battery capacity is the same as prime...silly to increase the resolution and cpu speed....but not the battery capacity.
On Note, going by the reviews, it does not look like a premium product, not for $500+ at least. Even though the benchmarks are high it still has lag.
I'll wait for the next android tablet, otherwise it's onto MS Surface.

seems like the review benchmarks over exaggerated?
I read that the infinity antutu score was close with the Note in some other reviews but that was the only one of 7 or 8 in which the TF700 was close. I don't recall now what I was getting on Quadrant with Asus but I think it was much lower. At any rate, the Note has no lag at all. Peppy even.

I think those marks reflect my experience in usage. Not comparable to the infinity as the Note is in a whole other league. I honestly feel the Tegra does not match the hype.

I have had enough of apple and want to know if the note 10.1 is a worthy replacement ?
I use my ipad for sat nav photo editing facebook games and internet
Most important is adobe photoshop which is built into the note 10.1 plus of course that fantastic pen which the ipad doesn't have
I want to know has anyone took the step I'm losing £300 on trade in if I do as I have the 64gb 4g version so want to be sure

Speed of the Note is one of the fastest tablets I have tried, including the iPad3. Once you start using the stylus and other TouchWiz features (ie. floating video, split screen, floating calculator, etc.) you'll be hooked.
Just wondering, is there a return policy if you decide not to keep the Note?

Sat nav - The Note will be better. You'll have more options for s/w and the front-facing speakers are loud and should be easy to hear. It also supports Glonass.
photo editing - Probably a tie. Depending on the detail you're editing to the Note could win based on the added value of the S-Pen.
facebook - The iPad app is proably better aesthetically but it'll work the same on both devices.
games - Depends on the games.
internet - The Note has the best browsing experience of any Andorid tablet. But I'm guessing the iPad's will still be more fluid but no more functional.
speed - It's the fastest Android tablet available. Because iOS is both so stuctured and limited it tends to be more fluid. But in terms of getting stuff done they should perform the same.
multi tasking - A huge benefit. The clipboard is also more of a scrap book. As you collect things from the web or apps and copy them they remain in the clipboard to be used later. Even after a reboot.
watching film - If you're coming from a retina display iPad you may notice some loss in definition. But the Note's display is great with very accurate color rendering. You can also watch a video in split view while you're doing something else or use Pop-up-play to watch a video while using the tablet normally. I watch a lot of video and am pleased with the display.
playing music - The Note has the same Wolfson DAC that's in the SGS3. Audio reproduction is brilliant. It also has BT 4.0 with aptX support which is a lossless playback method if your BT speakers or headphones support it.

I have an iPad 2 [i didn't see much of an upgrade to the iPad3] and the Note 10.1
I love both of them.
I find this tablet a lot more useful than the iPad.
multi-tasking i great. Not perfect.
watching movies is great [with the stereo].
music... well louder than my iPad.
I have the Note 10.1, my wife has the Ipad3. Due to her liking the Note 10.1 a lot better, we're saving to buy another Note 10.1 and we'll give the Ipad to my daughter.
Neither of us sees a noticeable difference in the screen, but some people do. Realistically, you probably won't note the difference with movies or pics. However, you may notice a difference in small fonts. If you read small fonts in normal use, you may notice a large difference. I HIGHLY recommend comparing screens for yourself. That way you'll know for sure what the resolution difference will mean to you.
For watching movies, the Note 10.1 wins hands down. Because of screen aspect ratios you have a 8.9 inch screen on the Ipad and a 10 inch screen with the Note 10.1. (Given a 16:9 movie.) Combined with the speakers--which are FAR superior on the Note--movie watching is a much better experience with the Note. Same with music, the speakers on the Note just blow the Ipad away.
There's no contest when it comes to photo touch up. The s-pen makes a night and day difference. Selecting areas of the photo with the pen is a game changer.
OK, now the downside to the Note 10.1. There was an update--which got pulled--that makes the Note a much better machine. Smoother with less bugs. With the update my Note runs great, without it I got a little annoyed. The update is in the development section here, so you can still update. However some people--a small minority I believe--have had problems with the update. For some, the pen stopped working. That's probably why Sammy pulled the update. The good news is that we can be sure that Samsung is working on the bugs the pre-update Note has, since they addressed them in the update. Jelly Bean should be along soon. So if you get the Note 10.1 and choose not to update you'll have to live with a few annoying bugs until Jelly Bean is released.
I am just curious about those who have used the Jot Pro stylus on a true HD tablet vs the S Pen on the GN 10.1. How is the responsiveness by comparison?
My guess would be that using a stylus on an HD tablet with a non Intel cpu would cause lag, but I'm just guessing. The ONLY thing I don't like about the Note 10.1 is the relatively weak resolution and I'm wondering if I could take notes just as well on a true HD Tablet with the Jot Pro?

This is off-topic but hopefully relevant and useful to you. I do not usually use my S-Pen on my Note II for note taking but the few times I have, I have used SketchBookMobile. It allows me to zoom in really close, zoom out, attach photographs (or change their opacity and use as the background. Very handy), use text, transform, resize and use layers. I have not found anything else that beats it.
Something else I do is to take notes with pen and paper and then photograph the result and send it to Dropbox. Always available
If you are looking to upgrade in the near future Wacom are said to be producing a tablet and pen combo for launch this year. It will probably be for professional artist and photographers and cost a small fortune but if money is no object it could be what you need.
I haven't used the jot pro on a 1080p tablet but had it for my transformer prime and it's horrible compared to the note 10.1. I think the main thing is capacitive touchscreen vs a digitizer.
It's been about 9 months but from what I can remember there was slightly more lag using the jot with the prime then using the spen on note.
No idea if an Intel chip would help.
For what it's worth I take great notes using lecture notes in landscape mode. Printed notes come out perfect just like the were handwritten.

This is the best capacitive stylus available, but this means it only sucks a it less then the others. It's no comparison to the s pen. Im going to get a s pen full size soon .I love my wacom intros and wish the s pen was of that quality.

The thing I don't like about Lecture notes is that my pen seems to lag a bit. Also miss the overall integration with the rest of the Note 10.1 ecosystem.

Lol was just curious. I love the note 10.1 for taking notes. The screen resolution doesn't bother me. I think Samsung could have done a lot better job of designing S-Note, as is I feel it's not as good as lecture notes. I use dropsync to keep it synced with Dropbox.

Yeah I was pretty pumped for the Note 8 but then it was taking so long to release and I realized I really wanted a bigger tablet. Also my last one was gray. Always wanted white. I like it better.

I currently have a Microsoft surface pro right now, and I use it mainly with one note to take hand-written notes. I was wondering how is the Note 10.1 for hand written notes? Is there a lot of input lag since its not a PC processor? Also how is the battery life.

Having used both, I prefer the Note for hand-written notes. There is no lag and there are several options to use. Unfortunately, the android version of one-note does not support hand-written notes so if you are a die-hard OneNote user, this will not for you.
As for battery power, I use my Note pretty much all day at work and at home and I typically get 1.75 days use out of it. At the end of the first day, I am typically at 69% and I usually turn it off or plug it in at 15-20% on the second day.
I had been using Onenote on a laptop and syncing via the MobileNoter app, but I no longer bother with Onenote at all now. I do any pdf annotation with Ezpdf and take notes with LectureNotes with handwriting recognition via the standard keyboard. Anynote seems like it might be decent too.
No lag with my note 10.1 model GT-N8013
Note 10.1 and Note 2 user here. Neither device suffers any lah whatsoever when it comes to pen input.

Since the tablets have about the same technical specifications but Android takes up alot less space and CPU than Windows I'm quite sure it's better. But if you'd like to try something else there's always Series 7 or whatever the Samsung 11-ish inch tablet with windows 8 is called.

I have Note 2, and except the pen and battery, S4 is way better. However, these are too important for me to change to S4. Besides, I bought the S4 with 30% sale off, so I can have some profit from selling it. After using the phone for a week, here is my mini-review
Feel: A little bit angular, but still much better than S3 and Note 2. Feel quite gorgeous. However the side is a little bit iPhone-alike.
Screen:
- Brightness: Oh well, the maximum manual brightness is not as bright as my Note 2 (A Brighter Note app activated), but outdoor visibility is way better. Under sun light with auto brightness, white is much whiter (brighter), black under s much less blueish - mean darker. I can feel a little better in reflective level. I think most reviewers forget to turn automatic brightness on.
- Color: colors with Standard mode or Professional mode (AdobeRGB mode) are great, sometimes I prefer the formal, sometimes I prefer the latter (actually it's still a little bit over saturated compared to Note 2 - master sequence Perseus kernel, but I feel more pleasant with it. Black is, true black. Every AMOLED screen I had before is still bright in dark room, but not S4. Don't worry about ink spots or black spots, even there are some you cannot recognize, believe me,
- Viewing angle: better than Note 2, truely
Best screen I have ever had so far.
Heat and Battery: Oh well. It's quite hot with 3G browsing or benchmarking, but still bearable. Battery is quite good, at the middle between S3 and Note 2 (both with mature kernels, so battery of S4 will be greater later)
Camera Compared to Note 2: better white balance (a bit), similar color reproduction and saturation, much sharper (I like zooming and cropping, but for most it's not very easy to recognize), better in shooting moving objects (not as good as One). Night photos is much similar to Note 2 (brightness, color) but much less noise.
But I could not find outdoor visibility mode like Note 2, a minus point.
User experience: benchmark king in almost any area: 630 ms in Sunspider, 13k Quadrant, 28k Antutu, 40fps GLBenchmark, 2600 Browsermark, 3630 Geekbench 2,... (I recorded the best scores). It's quick like Usain Bolt, shooting a low-light photo 2-3 times faster than Note 2.
However, there are still a few strange hipcups in browsing (when zooming maximum and then scrolling) but I'm sure that it's software problem. But the browser is bad, really bad. No quick control and flash support (or I didn't find out how), tab-switching is a pain in the ass. No direct bookmark syncing from desktop chrome. I used Ocean Browser, much much much better (I recommend everyone uses this app)
Sound: The same speaker as Note 2, but better with amplifier.
I don't want to spend a lot for phones, so I decided to wait for Note 3, which is surely better than S4 in important areas (screen, camera, speed) or at least on par.

Yeah, I think if you're a Note user who enjoys the S Pen features and huge display as well as the incredible batt life then the GS4 isn't for you.
Your benchmarks are pretty much the same as mine, I also got the Octa beast
Quick question but now that there's Air View does the S-Pen still have any advantages over just using your fingers? Besides some people finding it easier to draw with the pen then by hand.

There is no "dot" presenting the location of your finger, I think SS will update this feature soon.

This just makes me sad hope it doesn't get noticebly hot while using on wifi atleast......Was hoping they wouldve improved this by now.
I've been using mine on WiFi non stop with no major heating up for 5h32mins now, still got 55% batt.

Maybe thats the issue samsung was having with the octa, overheating. I doubt you could overclock the octa much without it overheating.

Glad to hear about this directly from users :victory:
The poor outdoor visibility and ultra-slow charging were the main problems that Samsung needed to fix before I switched from my iPhone.
day 2 of using it... trade in my s3... love it so much.. definitely not selling (i said the same thg for my s3 )

probably general use time. I think that 5 and half hours of screen on time would be more than a dream for a smartphone.
