Surface RT won't wake up - Microsoft Surface

Running on windows 8.1 with up to date updates. Sometimes, can't wake up the tablet from sleep mode. Searched online and couldn't find a solution. Does anyone have the same issue and a solution to it?

Just connect it to a power source. I will force it to wake

it's a display driver bug that prevent image to come up, but system is actually awaken. no workaround found but just force a reboot with on/off button.

I see it's related with graphic because it failed to wake up everytime after running games. I rollbacked my driver to 2013. But it still occurs. I personally don't think it's a driver issue. It must be one of the firmware updates.

Wake Up
When the screen fails to work properly all you need to do is press Vol + and Windows button

Oct 15 frmware update: Touch Cover no longer works

After today's firmware update my Touch Cover stopped working. Well, not entirely - it's Volume buttons and Touchpad still work, but that' about it. By the way, I'm on Windows 8.1 RTM.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Yeah there's another thread in the rt general section. Only known fix is a refresh under updates section. Annoying....
Just do a refresh and you wont loose your files. It fixed it for me.
Anybody notice a difference with the new firmware, what were the details
?

I don't want to do refresh and loose some settings settings. I'm patiently waiting for a fix from Microsoft.

All my settings and apps remained in tacked. Anyone find release notes?
I'm having the same touchcover problem after the Firmware update.
I just spent some time with MS Support and we also couldn't get it to work again.
I guess I'll wait until Friday/Saturday and see if starts working again after the official update to 8.1
I got the update 2 days ago, but my touch cover still works fine. I use my surface to take notes at uni, and I didn't really notice any difference. I heard the firmware update adds support to TC2.

Just want to confirm that doing a system refresh fixes this. I just did it for both my RT and my daughter's RT. Its a pain in the butt but at least it fixes the problem. Took around 20mins per device.
None of my settings were messed with but remember to restart the device one last time after everything is finished, it seems to need this!
@downloaderintruder: Touch and Type Cover 2 both worked on gen1 Surfaces when I checked out the preview hardware at the Windows store a few weeks ago. Made me want to buy one, actually; in addition to the backlight and thinner design, they fixed the multiple-keys-pressed-at-once problem that plagues the gen1 covers.
fix it !
:Hi guys. I fixed mine by playing in device manager. I notice I had new section called OTHER DEVICES winch had two UNKNOWN DEVICE. What I did was select one and go to update driver, browse my computer for drivers let me pick from a listo of devices... , then look for keyboards and you will see that there a few drivers to select. Select SURFACE TOUCH COVER AUDIO DEVICE VERSION 1.0131.0 and it should work. Mine is working!!!
UPDATE. I looked more into It. First you have to do the following
1. Go the Desktop app
2. Swipe from the Right
3. Touch Settings
4. Touch Control Panel
5. Touch Device Manager
6. Open the drop down for Firmware
7. Right click on Surface Touch Cover Firmware
8. Click on Uninstall
9. Do not check the box to delete the driver
10. Click on OK
11. Right Click on Touch Configuration Settings
12. Click on Uninstall
13. Do not check the box to delete the driver
14. Click on OK
15. Open the dropdown for Keyboards
16. Right click on Surface Touch Cover Filter Device
17. Click on Uninstall
18. Do not check the box to delete the driver
19. Click on OK
Do the same for all the items in Keyboard and for the Other Devices.
20. Restart your Surface.
After that. You should see the two unknown devices again. Right click and update drivers / browse my computer for drivers / let me pick from a list.../ and select HID Keyboard device
Do that for the two unknown devices... and it should work!!!

Nokia 8 - settings - security - option

Hi,
Sometimes when I switch on my phone there is a problem in settings menu. When I enter in a option security and smart lock there is nothing in it, and sometimes works fine. Anyone has this problem? What should I do? Device is TA-1052

Does the "media volume limiter" work properly?

I am trying to disable the media volume limiter. If I turn it off it temporarily is disabled. When I reboot it's I get the warning again even though the UI element for the setting still indicates it's disabled. I also tried to simply increase the volume limit to maximum but again the same thing happens, when I restart the phone I get the limit volume again.
Is there any way to disable the media volume limiter?
Screenshots are attached.
I am surprised this problem isn't more common and others don't experience the same. This has been bugging me since I got the phone 6 months ago. Anyone???
It can be done with Tasker, only way I've seen so far. That was on Android 7.0, haven't tried it on 8.0.

It's been happening to me occasionally also. If I go into settings and turn it off and back on it starts working again. But then I have to do it all over again within an hour.

Yep, that's similar to what I'm experiencing. Are you using the setting in gestures, or the setting in display > ambient display?

Simple answer for now, try factory reset, no ideal but then we can try something else
Hope not having any issues with on screen /off screen gesture as I'm using quite offen every day and really one of my favorite feature.
On Vivo smartphone I'm having one year now it's working brilliantly so far, hope OP the same excellent results as Vivo.
It would be totally frustrating if had any kind issues with 7 Pro gestures.

That's not good for a brand new phone out of box...
I'm having the same problem. Clearing the cache in recovery does nothing. I think it may be related to ambient light. Screen off gestures seem to work much better in well lit areas.
I've not had any issues at all since Tuesday when I got the device. Try booting into the recovery and wiping the cache. Could save you some trouble?
A factory reset resolved it for me.

i am facing same problems as you have been nothing works double tap to wake and single tap to show as well as draw patterns for apps nothing works. i have tried wiping cache and factory reseted it too once. i think its a software issue i hope they fix it soon
People apparently can not read. The OP just said factory reset worked just fine and people still keep saying the same things. SMMFH So unless you tried factory reset... no point in continuing to frakin post
So I have had OP7P Since Wednesday and I started to notice these problems about 6 hours in. Problems occurred prior to accepting the Out of Box update, after the update, after a factory reset. Restarting/Shut Down does not resolve the problem.
Lose of functionality are;
Double Tap to Wake
Ambient Display/Single Tap to Wake/New Notification
Gestures
Coming from the OP6T the solution previously that worked was to;
Settings->Apps->See All Apps->Menu (Shows System Apps)->Ambient Display->Storage->Clear Cache->Restart Phone
This solved the problem for about several hours. Going back into display setting and toggling Double Tap to Wake a couple of times sometimes restored functionality.
I have noticed that if my phone is in my pocket for some time and when I pull it out it won't respond. It feels like it has to think about whether it is still in my pocket or not. The times that it stopped working I've had to set my phone on a table or flat surface for about a minute or 2 and then pick it up. Thats when things will function as intended.
I have so far factory reset twice already and while it does solve it then and there the issue will arise again.
As for me it was working without any problem since the day I bought the phone but 9.5.9 broke it. Now I cannot make it work. I've tried xXX rom as well as Smurf Kernel and both didn't help.
Reverting back to 9.5.8 solved the problem... waiting for 9.5.9 FIX.

My phone's stock firmware broke my power button

Hello everyone. I would like to know if anyone experienced this, and if anyone has a solution (or at least an idea why).
The power button of my Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) (SM-A750G) phone does not work at unlocking the screen (if it works in the rest of the functions such as opening the shutdown menu, entering recovery, etc.) when I am using stock firmware, but it works perfectly when using a GSI or any other custom OS.
Do you have any idea what could happen? It should be noted that this happened to me when my phone had the stock firmware and I had never modified my equipment at all... It just happened suddenly and for that reason I switched to a GSI. But now I would like to use the stock firmware, but I will not be able to do it with this "bug".
Thanks 4 the help
You mean unlocking or just turning the screen on an unlocked phone?
The app DoubleTap does away with using any buttons to turn the screen on/off. Simply 2x tap it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...apk&pcampaignid=APPU_1_oD7zX7-SMMvesAWsh5_ADA

That's strange. Have you tried remapping the button? Are there options to do so in settings?
Possibly another 3rd party apk remapped without you being aware of it?
I been using this app for over a year. To spite the ad warnings, it has none. Uses almost zero battery, never connects with the internet and is rock solid stable. Saves button life just keep the screen pointed away from your flesh when in your pocket to avoid accidentally taps.
Note: I never gave it administrator privileges as I never use a lock screen. So not sure about its behavior in that mode of operation.

I tried the app a few moments ago and it seems to work fine, the flesh thing is apparently configurable (assign the volume key, which is the most similar).
Regarding the mapping or 3rd party apks using the button, I see it almost impossible, not only because I don't use any app of this type (that reassigns keys) but in completely clean installations of stock firmware this happens to me (and I don't have any option key remapping that I know of).
It's very weird, at least for me. Because not only does it "break" to unlock, but it is only with stock firmware and even if I change the kernel (I tried using the quantum kernel) the key does not work when turning on the screen. But with the GSI it works without problems.
I even googled questions related to Always in display, power or something similar and nothing, there seems to be no conflicts.

Make sure there's no remapping options for it in settings. If so it may be buried or under accessibility options... I've seen hidden Sammy drop down menus with no indication they are there until you double tap the top label. Swell.
Or simply bypass and double tap it!

hehe, if it is true that there are really hidden things XD
Anyway, I am testing this app and if I see that it works I will be encouraged to install the stock firmware and by the way I will try to dig deep into the configuration in search of an option that I have overlooked

Personally, the one that I liked the most (and the one that works best) is the Google official (Android 10): https://developer.android.com/topic/generic-system-image/releases But one problem is that it is very outdated.
Anyway, here is a list of some GSIs that you can check and test which one works on your device: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
And here is a tutorial that worked well for me to install GSI: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-workings-gsi-best-treble-gsi-roms-for-a7-2018.4069121/

Thanks! I'll try that
EXACTLY same problem here. I will not repet your words, I'll just say you described EXACTLY what is happening with my phone, a Galaxy A7 2018 (128GB RAM, Brazilian model - A750G/DS).
I can confirm that:
1 - Problem of screen never turning on after being turned off for the first time happens at all stock ROMs. Tried at android 10, downgraded to 9, couldn't downgrade to 8 because odin would not write the image, but the problem persisted on ALL stock ROMs up untill now.
2 - Problem DOES NOT happen at the TWRP recovery. Flashed TWRP just now, so I can flash a GSI, and I can turn the screen on or off as many times as I wish at TWRP screen, without any problem.
These informations corroborate, almost without a shadow of doubt, the idea that this is actually a software problem, not a hardware one. I'm gonna flash the google 10 GSI now, with quantum kernel V3 (seems to be a requirement, I would like to make as litle changes as possible) and post the results.
