yellow tint on screen repair of an unlocked phone - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am going to send my unlocked rooted (but stock ROM) phone to Sony repair centre because of a yellow tinted spot on the screen.
The yellow spot is near the charger contact and a Internet search reveals this as a common problem with the glue turning yellow due to overheating.
However, my question is, would Sony accept my warranty claim with a unlocked bootloader. I will wipe the root and return the phone to stock before I send it, but i can not change the bootloader stat (DRM key).

This is Sony official stance on warranty and unlocking the bootloader. In practice this means that once you unlock the bootloader they no longer have to honour your warranty. If your screen discolourment is due to overheating (As you suggest) I suspect that Sony will claim a custom kernel with overclocking could have done this, hence they will not honour the warranty
Voiding the warranty
If you unlock the boot loader, you may void the warranty of your device and/or any warranty from your operator. See your device’s warranty statement for details. Additionally, due to the modified device software, Sony’s repair network will likely have to replace key components before it can properly test, repair and verify your device using our repair tools and software. Consequently, if Sony performs a warranty repair, Sony will likely charge you a significant service fee for the additional costs caused by your modification of the software.

I gave up having the yellow lines fixed, it's more to much pressure on the screens causing the issue. Had mine fixed honestly 7x

Need to LOCK/UNROOT/FLASH for hardware repair?

So I'm sending my NS into Samsung, 51 weeks into my warranty (yes that means less than 1 week left), because my power button stopped functioning.
Do I really need to flash it back to stock unrooted and locked bootloader? I can't imagine Samsung would be so bold as to claim void warranty via software when it's clearly a hardware issue. They would have to prove that my software stuff caused a hardware issue, which is impossible. The button doesnt work even in recovery or from an off position.
Just curious before I send it in. Thanks!

[Q] Wifi not working after repair

Hi all,
So I recently repaired the screen of my HOXL and ever since, my phone does not catch a wifi signal unless I'm standing like 1 feet from the router. I'm guessing that the repair guys made some screw-up while assembling/disassembling the phone. I'll be taking it up with them soon but was wondering if anyone could shed light on what might be wrong and if I can repair it by myself?
My guess is that the WiFi antenna is not properly connected when they reassembled the device. I wouldn't mess with it, as you may make matters worse, and therefore void any warranty or liability they have on the repair.
Warranty is already void since I rooted the device

I don't mean the manufacturer warranty, I mean the warranty or responsibility the repair service has on the work they did.

Faulty screen 6039y

Good evening lads, I'm facing some problems with my display, the LCD presented some dots, more like small sqares(with sharp corners), they are not busted pixels (they're to big to be busted pixels), in different areas of the screen.. More on the bottom, and a few on the middle of the screen..
I should mention that i have not dropped the phone so that the dots would have an explication.
I made this thread in order to see if there are any other users who experienced this problem, and if they did.. What it could be done
Ive got a few on mine. I counted 6 or 7 just on the top half of the screen. A few on the bottom half. I only see them when phone is booting up on the black bootloader screen. They show up green.
Mine are visible all the time, Would vodafone warranty cover them ? Because, tehnically..it's not an software problem(That I could cause)

It has to. If you haven't dropped your phone, then those spots are hardware issue.
They gave you a faulty device, and you have the right to get it fixed/replaced for free.

I'm gonna go over there on Monday to see if they will change/repaid my device.
btw: I have an unlocked bootloader/root/etc, but..still, that is software, it would be impossible for me to damage the LCD trought an software :-s

You will have to return the phone fully to stock properties.
There is a thread which shows you how to fully restore stock rom, relock bootloader, etc.
Even rooting violates your warranty.
Bootloader unlock is even worse.

I did, I flashed an stock recovery, locked the bootloader, deleted the whole system/boot/cache,etc..basically wiped everything, and on my warranty chart, I noted that my phone isn't turning on after an update trought official app, and that I have white spots on the display[this was the one that interested me], so..They took it, and gave me a new one after an review in service[I forgot to make the partitions back as they were, but..they didn't looked there]
Thank you, T.C

Random Screen Shut-Off

Hello Everyone, I am Extremely new to posting on XDA so I am not sure if there is a standard or not. Basically The Problem I am having is that the Screen randomly turns black and does not turn back on unless connected to the charger for about a minute. I know that the phone does not die as both the digitizer and speaker continue to function. I have Tried:
-Software Initialization in SmartSwitch
-Factory Reset in Settings
-Factory Reset through Recovery Menu
-Odin reset Image 5.1.1 and 6.0.1
I also can not turn it into the Samsung Service Center as I already replaced the back of the phone in attempt to reseat the lcd/digitizer cable. If Anyone has any experience or insight into this I would fully Appreciate it. Thank You.

Does your phone function 100% as designed (i.e. are you able to use your phone) while it is turned on or does your phone gets frozen?
Is your phone still under warranty? If your phone is still under warrant call or online chat with support and get a shipping label and send it for repairs. There is no need to inform the support about what happen to your phone before. If support determines that your warranty is void they will provide a quote to repair your phone. Also you can dispute the claim that your warranty is void. If you decide not to repair the phone they will ship it back to you for free. So you have nothing to lose but a lot to gain by send your phone for repairs under warrant.
I observe that many members post questions but seems to bee too busy don't care to provide an update in this forum once the issue is resolved. Hence kindly update us of your progress as it will expand our collective knowledge.
This seems to be a common problem and it a known main board defect. I have a similar issue and I have to send for repair after I return to the US from my vacation.

Okay so I retried updating it without a reset within smartswitch and so far it hasn't turned off. Also If I did want to Ship the Phone, Will they accept warranty if there is a small crack in the bottom right of the back glass. BTW Thanks you for the reply.

In my opinion that should not void warranty (not a water damage - you could always claim that you're phone fell).
As I said if the repairs are not covered under warranty they will give you a ridiculousness high quote to repair it out of warranty and you could decline and they will ship it back to you at no cost to you. So on the downside you have nothing to lose and you will get back your phone as is but on the upside you might get lucky and get it fixed for fee

Update(June 21, 2016)- Samsung Gave a Free Label For UPS 2nd Day Air A.M. The service center they are shipping it to is only about 15 minutes away, but I am just going to utilize the label.

Ok so they had my phone since Friday, but said they received it Monday. I found out today that the back glass did cause it to not be in warranty. Fortunately, they have already sent it back to me and it should be back tomorrow. Hopefully they tried some software trick and it fixed it. Fingers crossed!
Ok so They gave me a free box with some packaging(samsung). Looks like they didn't even touch the phone as it was not factory reset.

warranty and repairs

Hi,
My boot loader is unlocked, as most of us did to get root.
Now we accept no warranty.
Ok so my USB port burns defect through water damage while connected to charger. The flex cable needs to be replaced..
I want Sony to do it to ensure right proper fixing back the LCD screen after repair.
I connect to Sony service center Netherlands i (I mentioned I have boot loader unlocked) and I say because of water damage to USB port I don't claim warranty, just want the usb flex cable repaired and hey they say, if your boot loader is unlocked, not even your warranty is void, but we are not allowed to take it in for any repairs. Because we cannot guarantee the functioning of the phone afterwards .
Did you all know this?, sign for this at the Sony unlock site?
Btw the phone worked fine, just the USB burned through, a little smoke and smell right at connection, when connected sure thing. The phone worked until battery was empty (had to make some backup to sd.)
So I will have it repaired anyway somewhere or there without mentioning.... or do it myself.
Have you the same experience with Sony service centers?
So I went to Thailand last year on a backpacking trip. Went underwater with my XZ, immediately charged it without realizing that I'd damage my port. My bootloader was unlocked, relocked it somehow, sent it to Sony for a repair claiming I had some usb ports issues back when I came home in India, they checked the device, noticed Camera app was not working (Camera doesn't work when you relock your bootloader), changed my whole motherboard & I got back a locked Xperia XZ without any charges as it was still in warranty.
Long Story short, Indian Service Centers didn't even notice that my bootloader was unlocked.
Also, I cleaned my charging port with alcohol to remove any dirt or residue of salt water before submitting it to Sony Service Center.
