Getting into Download Mode - Volume Down Button Broken - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I bought this tablet used, I knew the volume down button was broken, and until now that was okay. Admittedly, I did not research how to put this tablet into download mode prior to buying it, so I didn't realize that having a broken volume down button meant that I could not do any custom stuff on it. I have rooted and installed roms on many phones and tablets, but didn't really have a need to root or rom this tablet until recently. One of the apps I REALLY want requires root, so here I am. I can't find a jig on the internet for this tablet and it seems every method and app that forces it into download mode requires it to be rooted already. So I'm stuck. Any ideas? Suggestions? Do you know of a jig for the N8013?
Thanks in advance.

You can try comman adb reboot-bootloader if you have installed Android SDK.

Or, it depends on ROM you have, you can extend reboot menu using Xposed or if you have Cyanogen, try do this in Developer Options in Settings Menu

3. suddenly the volume increase indication came up in my screen (without even touching the volume keys!!) this kept coming...then i decided to give it a restart...after restarting everything came back to normal
4. but again it started to show up this morning...so decided to restart it again...and thats it....it wont boot up again!!!
Guys please DO help me out!!
Thanx in advance
Hello
Attempt to put charge into the phone by plugging it into the main charger.
Does the charge light come on when the phone is being charged?
Now download and Install the adb & fastboot onto your PC which you'll see in a link in my signature. Ensure that you have HTC drivers on you PC if not also download and install the link in my signature.
Plug phone into PC by USB cable.
Then fire up a CMD on your PC, go to directory where adb is and issue the command
Code:
[B][COLOR="Blue"]adb devices[/COLOR][/B]
?
whats the response?
thanx for the reply bro...
if i enter "adb devices" it shows:
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
list of devices attached
C:\android-win-tools>
Now what shall i do???...please help me out...i m very novice in this matter <to be mentioned that... i had a given factory reset before this!!>
After startup and the two vibrates, what's on the screen?
were you forced to pull the battery at any point?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
after the vibration the screen doesn't show anything!! its just pitch dark...
yeah last night i had to pull the battery out as the Red light wont turn off!!
this isnt sounding good!
check out the link in bens signature regarding emmc chips...

Very strange indeed, can you recall any part of the warnings?
Unless the phone semi-boots or can at least be recognised by adb (which yours doesn't) then you can use the HTC ROM utility to re-flash your phone)
Does sounds frightening like a hardware related issue, although it's difficult to tell as it appears to intermittently boot!?
The good thing is if it won't boot then hopefully the service centre won't be able to tell that you S-off'd so may well replace unit or motherboard for you under warranty.
bro ...i m really getting hopeless here!!!!
1. Can u plz tell me the steps if the adb recognizes my set or give me some links so that i can follow....
2. Or tell me the steps to use RUU to flash my set

Yes that's good news.....Although I'm at work now so bit busy...
Try
Code:
adb reboot recovery
from the PC if it loads into recovery Good!
From recovery try to format the CACHE partition, write what happens?
I'd then say download a wipe script and a safe custom ROM and then load them onto your SD card, ie like LBC Mod v0.6.0
If no errors, then first flash the wipe ZIP file and then the LBC ROM ZIP file using the "install from sdcard/zip file options from your recovery....
Report back any errors...if you're not quite sure of any of the steps then ask questions....I'll check back later...
Nope...if i enter the command adb reboot recovery...its just vibrates twice and nothing comes on the screen (with the red light on).........!!
i guess i have go for RUU process

I'm getting out of my depth here....As we don't know what version of ROm you're now running especially if you ran the OTA. There is a possibility that the OTA has removed your custom recovery, S-OFF and root. As as you can't see the HBOOT screen you can't confirm that you're even still S-OFF..
You could try to start to run an RUU as this might tell you want you current ROM version is......
But I'd wait for someone else to provide some more advice...as I don't know what the "recovery" next to your device serial number from adb devices quite means ( I assume it means that your device is in recovery)...
---------- Post added at 01:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:02 PM ----------
google adb yourself and see what safe options and commands of it you can use that will provide you with further information about your phone
hi...
Thanx to ALLAH...may b at last i have found the problem area.
it is the volume rocker!!! somehow the "+" side of the volume rocker is jammed so, whenever i try to boot the device it goes in a recovery mode!!!
But strangely though when I played with the volume buttons and they don't feel jammed at all, the vol. down button is clicking fine, doesn't feel stuck or anything. And if that wasn't bad enough, I tried turning my phone off and on, but when turning it on, it still thinks it's held down so it will only boot into recovery!!!
is there any solutions for it???

Well done in discovering the fault
But, I'm afraid that I don't know of any way to disable the buttons, without obviously dis-mantling the case from the unit (which is way over my head) ...
this maybe a daft question but have you tried the command
Code:
adb reboot
(not adb reboot recovery)?
if this does not work you may have to take your device to HTC

LG Optimus T Recovery Help (bricked?)

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but I couldn't find an OptimusT-specific forum so here goes:
I have an LG Optimus T that was rooted with Gingerbreak and it was working great. It was rooted however I never installed a custom recovery. I wanted to clean things up and started to remove the bloatware (using Titanium Backup) and apparently I removed something that was critical to the system, or at least the launcher.
The status bar appears at the top showing I'm connected to the mobile network, time, and battery status). The lock screen shows fine and allows me to unlock the display, when I plug a USB cable in I get the prompt to enable USB storage, but that's it. The rest of the screen is black; pressing the home button does nothing, and pressing the menu button doesn't bring up the settings.
This is where I'm stuck. I know I removed something that couldn't be removed, so my solution would be to simply install a custom recovery and then reflash the factory ROM. Unfortunately USB debugging is DISABLED and my menu/settings can't be opened, which means I can't enable USB debugging to connect to my computer and run ADB!
Am I out of options? I tried a hard reset (phone off, hold home/vol up/power) and it resets the data, but I still don't boot into to the launcher, just the black screen.
The Optimus T shares roms recoveries etc with the Optimus One. That's where all us Opt T owners are

I suggest you install a custom recovery and make a nandroid backup prior to "experimenting".

Yeah, well I think I learned my lesson today.
Oddly enough, I found that post and followed those steps before seeing your reply, and IT WORKED!
Thank you. Now that I know where all the Optimus T resources are, I can start to look for what want (unbranded stable ROM with no gimmicky eye candy or major tweaks).

[Q] I think I'm totally screwed this time

I have multiple problems so read on.
A couple weeks ago the computer stopped recognizing my verizon gnex that was rooted, unlocked and running jbsourcery 5.1 that it previously had no problems seeing. It still charges via wall and usb with original m-usb cable. I've tried numerous times to re-install the samsung driver on the computer with wug's toolkit with no luck. I've tried another samsung m-usb cable...no luck. My computer is new so no problems with usb ports (I've tried all of them) and have tried the ver 2.0 port. USB debugging is on and fastcharge is off.
My second and worst problem:
Yesterday in a fit of stupidity I restored one of my original backups ( I believe made with CWM recovery ) that turned out to be a stock. img and after restoring it OTA updated to stock JB. All my other backups were done with TWRP and it's no longer present on the phone. I tried installing BootUnlocker from play store but it says I have no root access and the phone won't flash either recovery so I'm stuck with only Fastboot ver. 9 that only wants to flash something from adb. I've exhausted my knowledge and eyes are crossed from reading forums.
I want to get back to full rooted or back to full stock.
It is still unlocked
I don't know if I can use something like Terminal Emulator for this or even how to use it.
If you know enough to see that I'm totally screwed...Please tell me! (I'm a big boy)
If you think you have a solution...You are a god!
If you need more info...I can provide it

Rom manager is on the phone but each time i try to reboot into recovery it does nothing. If I try to enter recovery through VOL up/dwn-Pwr it just goes to minimal fastboot that only gives me the option of installing from adb.

Sorry, I tried reloading the drivers into computer so I could use Wugs toolkit but they won't load because the computer doesn't recognize the phone. I keep getting an error 10 when trying to update the drivers. I truly appreciate your help and thank you but I'm stuck.
Any other ideas?

Sorry again..
You may have already tried it, but have you tried to plug the phone into a different computer ?
Yes, I have a win xp laptop I tried connecting to also. No luck

Bricked Razr HD????

Hey guys my Father in Law gave me his Razr HD. He never rooted it. But one day after he sent what ended up being this device's final text, the device acted weird and all apps started closing. Then the phone shut down and never started again. So I have it and I used to root, and I thought I would give it a shot. All I can do is get to the recovery where you can factory reset etc.. Even after a factory reset, the phone gets stuck on the stock Moto logo boot screen. Is there something I can do to revive this device? It's only like 2 years old and I thought this would be a great spare device incase I EFF up my Droid Turbo 2. Anyway any help or a good point in the right direction would be appreciated.
What I've done so far
1. held the power and vol down button to get to the android/triangle then held power and vol up to get to recovery and try factory reset.
2. called verizon tech support to see if I could get the OG firmware
3. researched the net for a guy that I once sent a bricked devie to like in Texas or something and he unbricked it... I think he or it was called j-dax or something along that line.
4. posted this thread
5. continuing research on how I can fix it myself or find that guy!

You can probably get into fastboot and flash a fresh copy of the firmware with RSD Lite. That's what I would try.

I'm trying to use RSD Lite, but when I click on the latest drivers for my device it says page not found... =(
Ok so I'm starting to get frustrated. I've got the RSD lite latest, motorola drivers device manager and the RSD lite definitely reads my phone on the PC. I've been following this thread on how to but I can't find or download the firmware anywhere!!! All links lead to NOTHING. It's like they've all been removed. If I can just get the firmware, then I feel like I can make this happen =)
Going to take a coffee break
Edit: Took my coffee break, called Motorola to see if I could get ahold of the firmware. They transferred me all over the place and finally said after almost an hour of them transferring me that they cannot provide me with the firmware =) Yay, I love Motorola... Back to square one

Back to Stock help please

I want to put my phone back to factory, as it was out of the box. I have done a few things but when it starts up, the keyboard is missing and all the stock Apps are missing.
Can someone provide me with a step by step guide on how to put it back to stock Android 7.0
Cheers
what i did was reboot to recovery (twrp) if you can somehow, and plug in to computer and use adb to reboot to bootloader. adb reboot bootloader
from there i hold down power and volume up (keep plugged in to computer). It should boot to stock recovery and you can connect the phone to wifi and download stock.
I was on Lineage and it was working great I just wanted to go back to stock 5.0 emui. This worked for me after I screwed around for a day trying to figure out how to get back and I sort of stumbled into it.
It was stuck on the blue Honor Screen immediately after for the first boot forever so i actually held down power + Volume down I think until it rebooted then immediatley Power Button + volume up and factory reset it again. This did it and booted it up back to 5.0.
the only thing is my bootloader is still unlocked. Back on emui 4 this sort of method would lock it up as well as unroot and put everything back to stock but it doesnt lock the bootloader back up at least on mine. hope this helps sorry if my directions suck this is my first time posting.
For me, when I try to download from the recovery screen it comes up with an error and won't download.

That is my problem, too. Didn't find any workaround for it yet and would also be interested!
I am on the US l04 version maybe yours is a different model and uses a different method?
Really difficult to find 100% sure fire answers at least for me with this particular device so I just started to be my own guinea pig and test out things on my own. I also was able to lock my bootloader back by using this command
fastboot oem relock [unlock code i received from honor site]

I am on the FRD-L09 Version. I also have another problem, that my PC won't recognize my Honor8 in Fastboot Mode (both: google's .exe files and the amazing Huawei MultiTool by Team MT).
every ADB Command works fine so far.
Since all downloadlinks for Huawei Firmware from here didn't work for me so far, too, i am trying the original Firmware from hihonor.com. The last time i checked it wasn't offered there until recently.
I am trying to make a SoftwareUpgrade via the Service Menu (*#*# 2846579#*#* tipped into the calling interface). This will execute the Update.app i copied to my sdcard/dload/ folder.
I hope i am not forgetting any procedures before i try to update. Right now my device is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked, while TWRP3.1 is installed.
I'm new to this so I don't know how to share links or files yet or even if thats possible but I used the "Huawei Android USB Driver" I found on one of the posts on this site. I cant remember exactly which one I'm not the most organized person with my files. look around on xda there are links to it somewhere. I'll try to dig around for you here in a few minutes see if i can find the link.

Oh one more thing
in emui 5.0 i found USB debugging always shuts itself off for some reason. So when your phone is plugged in go back into your developer settings and switch usb debugging back on.
I dont know why they changed this it wont stay on for me at least automatically

The USB Driver you mentioned are the ones which can be installed via the Huawei Multitool by Team MT. In the unzipped folder from there, there is a Huawei_Multi-Tool.bat which can be run. It can be used for multiple purposes, even installing all drivers. (except the ones for my fastboot connection obviously, but it also could be a hardware problem. so i didn't report this problem to them).
perhaps it can already help you guys.
I resolved my issue. I followed the downgrade instructions and it worked a treat. It then auto updated back to Nougat.
