Title says it all, I have a VZW S6 on latest update, will post pics below. Why is this happening and how could I fix it? Also i tried Wake lock detector but it is not working for me, says in kitkat blah blah needs root but I'm on lollipop with root and still not working.
bumpppp
Not sure if it's the same as the TMO version/problem but turning off VoLTE in call settings fixes that. Bummer of a workaround, but does work.

I don't have that setting anywhere.
Ok yeah this bug is monstrous, I can't even last 6 hours with normal use without charging a little at least once or twice, absolutely horrid. From 10 to 12 was just me turning off alarms every 5 to 15 mins for 2 hrs.
Boot up in recovery mode and clear the cache partition. This should fix your problem.
I have SM-G920F and have the exactly same problem. Clear cache or even Factory reset didn't fix the issue.
The big problem is that in the last update I lost the VoLTE option... Is there another way to disable it?

Hello guys, out of all the bugs this is the one bothering me the most.
Battery settings show WiFi as on all the time no matter how i switch it off.
I have disabled all the settings like scanning always.
I flashed the factory image yesterday (not OTA) and waited till a full charge, now today even after a full charge its still the same.
Is this a common bug or just me??
UPDATE :Tested with a clean flash of the factory image and without any apps, the result was that the issue has been solved. It could probably be some app which isnt updated to work in 5.0 yet. (Probably Viber app)
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I didn't flash the image, just flashed it via multirom. I don't have that problem...If that happened to me I'd try to reflash to see if I could replicate the issue with no apps other than what comes with the image.
I just flash my ROM yesterday with the factory image too and now I'm facing the same problem.
Battery usage shows that Wi-Fi is always on even the phone is sleep.
Really want to know why... I think it really consumes the battery.
I flashed the factory image too. I have the same problem. WIFI is always on. Any idea?
I've got it, too. Clean flashed 2 times. Well, hopefully Google gets on it soon.
Same here. Clean install, no root, no tweaks.
I opened issue here https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=79326
Solution
had the same issue. what i found out was that it was not an android issue, the issue is with viber app(atleast in my case it was). to confirm it try booting to safe mode and check you battery stats. safe mode disables all 3rd party apps. if it works then reboot normally and uninstall viber.

I updated OTA and I have the same problem. Wifi always on, battery sucking. I don't have the viber app.
try booting to safe mode just to check if it was caused by any other 3rd party application

Well, turning WiFi off and rebooting "resolves" this issue too, but it's no solution at all, the "bug" is still present.

Right this could be the reason. I clean flashed the factory image once again and now its not there without any apps installed. Viber could be the reason.
And btw for those who doesnt know about "Scanning always available" feature, you have to disable "Scanning always available" option in Advanced WiFi settings to truly switch off WiFi when you disable it. Otherwise it will always be on even if the phone goes to sleep. This is an Android feature. I have shown it the pictures of the 1st post.
So regarding the OP, should install apps one by one and confirm who the culprit is.

there was no need to have clean flashed again, you could have booted in safe mode(press and hold power off option) which disables all 3rd party apps. you could have figured it there. anyways for other people with the same issue you could try this and to figure out which app causes it, reboot back to normal and try force stopping each app and check. thats what i did to figure it out. Viber was the cause of the issue for me as i mentioned earlier

Thanks for your reply.
I can do that but is there any alternate solution available to avoid formatting my device?
Same Issue
I'm not sure what carrier that you are with or if that even has anything to do with it. But I am with T-Mobile and I initially received the update a couple of weeks ago and right after my phone updated I noticed that my messages would no longer appear on the edge screen. Everything else worked just fine except for that. I called T-Mobile and they had me do a factory reset (which always sucks). After the reset the phone worked just fine for a couple of hours then went right back to experiencing the same issue. I called in again and this time they suggested sending me another phone because it sounded like a hardware issue and she also told me that no one else in her department with the same phone had any issues with their phone after the update (how true that was or if she really even asked anyone I don't know). So I called back in yesterday and the guy suggested that I do not install the update and just bypass it (I didn't like that idea at all but I figured I would give it a try). So now the update updates on it's own and I can't even bypass it. So after a new phone, 5 factory resets and plenty of frustration I still can't receive my notifications on my edge screen.
Please someone help!!

"Hi guys. First of all, i registered specifically to tell you of this solution. It's a very frustrating problem, im not sure if it's a bug too...
Ive tried factory reset, clearing cache (all three times, though it's probably a bit useless considering I'm not rooted/flashing custom roms).
As most people realize, this works until you restart the phone or randomly in the middle of the night as the phone goes into deep sleep mode.
I've tried disabling, enabling apps to no avail.
This is the solution my friends...
Go to settings->sounds and notifications -> notifications on lock screen change to show contents.
You may need to restart the phone.
And notification is back.
Im not sure why this is the case (i have fingerprint lock enabled), but i think this is done for privacy purposes. It will be silly if you had notification hidden then it comes up on the edge screen. So when you have notification hidden, the bug is probably that ALL notification is hidden.
Let me know if this works for all of you!"
It worked for me! Hopefully it works for you too! The only drawback is now everyone can see your messages on your lock screen. But at least it's back (sort of).

Hi
I am still facing a small issue with the phonebook as if I am scrolling through the contacts for quite sometime, the screen refreshes suddenly and take me to the Homescreen. Other that this no issues at all.
Since updating my Edge 915S ota to 5.1.1 I don't get LTE connection anymore, it only shows 3g.
Can you please advise how I can get LTE/4G back?
Many thanks.

Well,
1. Factory reset
2. Flash via odin
LP is awful, i would stay on kitkat.
Hi,
I just got this s7 for 3 days and i have this problem where the screen wont turn on but the phone still is active.
A hard boot will fix it but its only a temp fix because i had this problem 4 times now in 3 days.
I didn't root it nor did i install any weird apps outside the google play store, i disabled a couple of bloat ware apps like all microsoft apps and a few google apps like hangouts and gmail.
I did some research and found out that more people have this problem but all the fixes they got it to wipe the cache but the phone still has the problem after that so i would like to know if more people on xda have this problem and i would like to know what they did to their phone so i can see if we have anything in common to pin point the problem.
See if the setting for preventing the phone to turn on in your pocket is enabled. If so, try disabling it and see if that works. It may be a problem with the proximity sensor if it's a hardware issue.
Thanks for the reply and i have that setting indeed turned on! So ill switch if off right now and lets hope this will fix it!
Seems like turning off that feature didn't work
If you have an SD remove it or format it. I had this on kitkat because of too many files in internal memory
Think i found the problem because i think its fixed. While restoring my old settings like wifi etc from my ggole account caused this problem and now that i skipped this part in the setup the phone seems to be working now for 2 days perfectly but thanks for the reply and help.
Woot, I have fixed the problem!!!!! Its the App Power Saving Feature that causes this!!! I had some app set to "always" and when i used any of these app and then put the phone in standby then it would lock up every now and then. Now that i have turned off this setting the phone runs steady for a week!

Is your phone still working fine without blackscreens?
I've got the same issue (sometimes 4 times in an hour, sometimes it doesn't happen for 2 days..!!).
I've tried fixing by doing a factory reset and turning app power saving mode off.
Unfortunately this did not fix the problem. Yesterday I got an unresponsive blackscreen again :crying:
Any ideas what could fix the problem?
(Ignore my signature, I'm writing about the S7, not the S6)

Hi
Has anybody a bug like mentioned above?
My FRD-L09 with the latest fw b131 has that bug. After rebooting it works as usual but after some time it stops rotating the Screen.
The Rotation is enabled in the Settings. Tested with many apps like google fotos, the stock foto gallery, even chrome does not auto rotate.
As is said, after a reboot it works again.
Try wiping the Cache Partition in the Recovery Mode menu. If that doesn't work then backup the data on your device and perform a hard factory reset on your device.

It has happened to me twice in 2 days. Not sure if it was camera related, but that's when I noticed it because the pics I took in landscape were rotated 90 degrees in the gallery, and nothing auto-rotates after that. So rebooting fixes it.

A hard factory reset solved the problem for me, at least I did not get this issue again since 3 days.
But I think it has something to do with "smart assistance", this is the only setting that is deactivated since I've made the reset.
So try to turn things off there and maybe I am right, if not do a hard reset (Do not forget to backup your data !!)
Have the same annoying bug on my Honor Note 8, must be something to do with Huawei's power management cause it seems to happen when battery goes below 10%. Restart seems to fix it every time

I only deacticated all options in "smart assisstence" settings. Only Smart Key is activated. I did a partition cache wipe afterwards (no factory reset!) and now everything is working perfectly for last couple of days!

Hi, any update?
Same issue here, but today It reactivated the function by itself as it stopped working with gallery and google photo uploading.
I had anyway some movement options active in smart assistance, which I now have deactivated leaving only the smart cover option.
It is still working perfectly for me with only smart key activated in settings. No issues anymore so far...
Ok thanks, looks like mine too is working again.
Something like the error message of "Google....etc etc...impossible recording" whenever the microphone was used by an app, even taking movies. I then discovered that I had to deactivate the "Ok Google on every screen" option.
By the way, even if I wanted to wait for a massive test of the B380 upgrade, I found that my Honor 8 had downloaded automatically the upgrade, prompting me to reboot to install it, when I left it connected to my home wifi.
I can't find anyway to force it not to download system upgrades by itself, I have a very bad experience from iPad of unnecessary upgrades, is there a way to take control manually of system upgrades?
Actually I haven't seen any battery improvement after the upgrade to B380...
I have the same issue. I can confirm that the reboot fixed the problem. Will see how long befoe this bug comes back.

Rebooting fixes until smart assistance critical option forces the problem to come back. It might be a conflict with some particular app, but deactivating most of the smart options one at a time to see which one is the guilty will solve the issue.
Unfortunatly, reboot fixes the bug for me for only 5 or 6 days :/

As multiple times stated, rebooting is USELESS if you don't deactivate the smart option that fights with some of the apps!

Hi all!
I've been searching for a solution for some time but couldn't find any.
Always On Display stopped working on my Pixel 6a. It's all turned on in the settings but it simply doesn't work. It works only in those cases:
1. When device is rebooted into an Airplane mode
2. When device is rebooted into the Safe Mode
3. When device is rebooted but not unlocked for the first time
There are also no notifications displayed so screen wake on notification doesn't work. Same story as above.
I thought there is some app blocking it but couldn't really figure out which, I tried to disable many of them but none helped.
I did a factory reset once but issue came back after few days.
I seriously have no idea what might it be. Hope someone here might have had similar problem and found a solution.
Thanks!

Would you be down to try flashing a custom ROM?
I've read in another thread not long ago someone saying their Tap to Wake randomly stopped working. We narrowed it down to an issue with the proximity sensor (so the phone thought it was in a pocket/covered, therefore didn't let Tap to Wake work, he had to use the power button to turn the screen on). He then flashed a custom ROM (it was LOS, I think), and that solved the issue for him.
I've also had some issues with the stock ROM, flashing a non-factory one solved all of them
If you want to keep on using the factory ROM, you might wanna try using the Android Flash Tool instead of just factory resetting to make sure no corrupted settings can live on.

I would say it does not have anything in common with the proximity sensor since it works fine with airplane mode turned on. I want to stay with the factory ROM. Maybe it's an issue that will be fixed any time soon?

Why do you ask for advice if you just want to "wait for it to get fixed"?
If you've done a factory reset already, it's not a hassle re-flashing the factory ROM (since you already have your data backed up).
Fwiw, the guy with the proximity sensor issue also had it sometimes work and other times not, much like your issue
