[Q] Continuous reboot sequence - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Having a small nightmare; was using my phone, screen goes off & reboots automatically, happened a few times, nothing major.
This time, the screen only comes on briefly enough to see the unlocked padlock then goes off & starts again, its the same in fastboot & recovery so I can't do a complete reset. I get 1 or 2 seconds in & it resets automatically after a few occasions it will just stop, when on power, it just constantly resets & doesn't stop at all.
Background info, its running stock 5.01 rooted with xposed/gravity box.
I fear its done... any ideas

Could be the power button. I've read many people have problems with it

and because I'm unlocked/rooted & its over 13 months old, chances of an RMA are 0% I guess?

Boot problem after rooting

Hola! I've been rooted now for a couple of weeks without any issues.. that I knew of. The only couple of times I've powered down and restarted, I've had to hold the power button down for well over 10 seconds before it will start to boot.
Is this normal? If not, any suggestions on why this is happening?
Thanks.

hm...
I don't know how long you have to press power unrooted but 10 seconds doesn't seem crazy much to me... How did you root?
How does it act when you reboot?
Considering it only took holding the power a second or two before, it seems like a problem now. I rooted using the toolkit, 2.53, I think.

[Q] Phone not locking and unlocking occasionally

So since today when I push the power button to lock my phone it will do the crt-off animation but occasionally (1 out of 3 or 4 times) it will immediately be woken at the lock screen after the animation. It does the same while waking, it will turn on and immediately crt-off and sleep. I have even reset the flash counter and wiped and re-flashed different roms at least 10 times.
Does anybody have any advice?
Thanks
Power button is probably getting stuck. Clean it

So I took it apart and cleaned the button. I noticed that when I first flash a rom it barely does it but when all my apps are downloaded it will do it much more. Should I maybe do a unroot and reroot? I think it's mostly software. I don't know what to do next.

Little important Nexus 5 things?

1. If the phone should freeze how do you force a reset?
2. If the phone should bootloop how do you force it completely off?
3. From off how do you boot into twrp?

Search search search
1 - Hold power button until it reboots
2 - Same as 1
3 - Look in TWRP thread or rooting threads that are stickied at the TOP of the general and QandA Forum
1. Hold power button for 10 seconds
2. See number 1
3. Hold down both volume buttons and power at same time

But if holding makes it reboot, how do you completely off it?

Phone rebooting

Hi, twice today my phone rebooted. Once on a call and when it booted back up after I put phone on charge and left it for 5 minutes and it rebooted again. My phone is all stock on ART runtime. Any ideas? It did happen few weeks ago too while on a call.
Thanks.

without any kind of logs, nor a last_kmsg, it is just a guess why your phone rebooted. since this guess is as good as any other guess, i say that your phone rebooted from fear of dinosaurs.
How can I get the logs that haven't been eaten by the dinosaurs yet?

Disable ART it is experimental right now. But with out logs finding out why is a guessing game and an uneducated one at that.

do you have root? you can run a last_kmsg after a reboot. the device automatically saves this after a reboot that you didnt do yourself. this will show why your device rebooted.

[Q] How do I prevent USB file access at lockscreen?

In previous versions of Android, when I plugged my Nexus 5 into my computer, if it were at the lockscreen I had to unlock it before it would show me the files on the sdcard. Now, though, running 4.4.2, I notice I no longer have to do that. I can just plug it in and at the lockscreen go to my files. While convenient, especially for transferring large files, I'd rather a thief not be able to do this. I can't find any setting for it though. Any ideas?
Have you got a pin code or just swipe?

Also on my N7 2012 w/ 4.4.2, also using pattern, I can't access the files via USB until I unlock. Same pattern too.
This is what mine does on both windows and linux.
Plug in locked .. device shows but is blank. Upon unlock, directories become visible.
If I lock whilst already connected, connectivity is not lost.
Not sure why yours acts differently. Would be pointless having a lock if you could still get data
There is no setting for this. Maybe you need to wipe ? If unrooted, backup with helium

+1. I just tested mine on 4.4 and 4.4.2 and have the same behavior. Pin lock.
And this is exactly what my n7 does. But my n5 doesn't. I can immediately access my files.
Franco kernel but was even happening on stock. In fact thinking back my n5 has always done this since I got it a month ago.

There probably was a time when it worked. Probably should do some testing with a full wipe. Maybe its an app
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
With mine on 4.4.2 it locks device access until pattern lock is put in. Perfect. It sounds like you have an app interfering or need to do a reset.
Ugh. Even with titanium backup I hate doing wipes. But I suppose if it fixes it then it comes back when I restore then I'd know it's an app. I'd hoped this was a known issue.
Take a nandroid. If wipe doesn't fix it at least you can full restore
