My girlfriends Surface RT geeks out A LOT, by that meaning sometimes touching the screen does nothing, there is sometimes a touch bubble constantly showing in a section of the screen that is t even being touched, and when it starts acting up if you lock the screen and try to slide up on the lock screen the image dragging gets laugh and hardly responds to any touch. Is there any way to fix this? It happens 90% of he time.

yeah, that happens to my Surface 2 sometimes when using the official recovery from Microsoft...I dunno why. I use my IR5 RT image and all is good. I made a guide here; http://forums.windowscentral.com/mi...s-rt-8-1-esd-ir5-surface-2-install-guide.html
Also, using the 8.1 RT IR5 esd I have made an updated image (all updates in it as of July 18th) you can use here:

Hi jon4248,
So will your image fix the touch screen issues? My tablet has been non responsive to touch since the updates around beginning of this year.......highly annoying.
I'm having problems downloading from my current low band width location any chance of a torrent link.......

That's a shame, I called Microsoft help line and they said try the recovery but I was hoping this version with all updates would work. I will still try it as I have nothing to lose........ So you still don't have touch screen working?

Microsoft told me if I mailed mine in they'd send me a new one, I just haven't done that yet. But I mean the touch screen works, but after about 5 minutes of use, the screen goes unresponsive and it shows touch bubbles all over the screen opening up apps and stiff when I'm not even touching it.

Yes that sounds more like hardware issues........ mine is definitely software related. Once I can download the recovery I will install and update here...... just need a torrent link for the recovery.
EDIT: I managed to download John's recovery and also the original from Windows site. Neither version made the touch screen work again. I'm now trying to run down the battery to totally flat and see what happens...... Will report back.
EDIT 2: no luck with running the battery dead. Still no touch screen....funny thing is that this issue is preventing me from updating to a new Surface 3 Pro as I flatly refuse to pay for another device if M$ can behave in this way with their obsolete equipment.
I found this thread on the Windows support site, people are signing there to try and get M$ to act to find a fix for the updates issue related to touch screen issues.

what i do with mine is to install a bluetooth mouse which start working as soon as I boot the RT , then, after using the mouse on a couple of programs, the touch screen start to work. Buggy little bugger ! Usually the touch screen work fine, only on certain days it decide to give me some problems.

can you post a link to which ROM's thread you're using?
The newest driver should disable the stick when the keypad is locked. It has been this way with every new ROM since Andot's Perfect.
Did you format binfs when you upgraded your ROM?

BTW has anyone got a hold of 6.1 yet?
Considering that a 6.1 ROM won't actually be made, OEM, for the Tornado, you're unlikely to see a new joystick driver.
For you guys, I might suggest you search the forums for the various drivers and see if an older version might work better for you.
BTW:
Exactly what variant of the Tornado are you guys using? What was the retail name on it?

I'm using a Vodafone V1240, and like others mentioned before, when the keypad is locked, moving the joystick turns on the screen and backlighting. I'm using Nitro's Platinum Edition (including SP1). I have a habit of taking the phone from the holster and moving the joystick to turn on the screen and see if I've missed anything.
Personally, I never found it to be a problem - I've been incredibly pleased with the battery life of my phone, regardless of what ROM I've used, so either I have a Super Battery, or I never bump my phone in such a way as to turn the screen on. Of course, if it's SUPPOSED to do something, and it ISN'T, I become a little concerned.
The problem I've always had is with the keypad lock unlocking without me telling it to. I keep it in the holster that it came with in the box, and I wear it on my right hip, and I found that almost every time I drove my car, when I'd get out I'd find that I had wound up dialing someone at random and letting them talk to my holster. Sometimes it would happen when I'd just be walking around; I'd hear a beep, pull the phone out, and lo and behold, it's dialing my voicemail. I'm damn near religious about locking the keypad before I put the phone in its holster, so I'm sure I wasn't forgetting to do so. I eventually solved the problem by putting the phone in the holster with the screen facing in rather than out; since I started doing that I haven't had a problem with the phone unlocking itself.
I've just flashed Ntiro's ROM and can affirm that it's happening to me too. It's a problem with the driver.
Either the driver wasn't implemented properly with this new version of WM6, or he's using an old driver.

Why? Cus it's missing certain things (like the keypad), it's got a couple of bugs in it... like error messages asking to send info to Microsoft (see here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=639799) and also the blummin rotation thing seems to stick on portrait when i want landscape! That aside, i'm impressed
Oh, one more thing i don't like about it (though there is a way round it as always!)... tomtom... the TG01 cannot directly use it's built in gps! you have to get a 3rd party app to link in conjunction with it! You don't get issues like that on the Diamond or Blackstone do ya!
About the error you get ^_^
I have 2 TG01 devices and i did'nt get such an error ever.
But If I am not mistaken gwes.exe is actually the application that monitors your touch screen.
I also ran into some post that refered the error to the screen sensitivity (calibration) and also to the time you actually press the screen (on the same place)-it makes the CPU usage to hit the 40%+ some even talked about 80% in extreme cases...
did it also stay after hard reset/Rom flash?
if so when does it happen to you exactly?

Well, it normally happens when the unit has gone into hibernation mode or if you put it into 'sleep' unsing the power button and then wake it back up later on. I've just had it happen again about 5 mins ago. After that, it got really odd. Every time i pressed the power button, it 'flashed' the screen back on and then went off. This happened about 5 times. In the end, i had to pull the battery and restart. Weird.
As for flashing a rom, if there was a WWE ship out there, it'd be on it right now mate cus this Orange rom is garbage. Sadly, to my knowledge, there isn't one available... or is there?

I've got the same issue and there s no way to calibrate the sensor !!!
I tried to hard reset the device : no joy

I had mine changed today, it's far better but still choppy and inaccurate.
I would say on 3 degrees discrepancy, instead of 10 degrees on the previous one
Look at the first one :
In every case our g sensors are responding well, it's just a matter of calibration, I hope ASUS will releanse soon a calibration tool. Or maybe someone else.....
Is there a place where we can post some suggestions to ASUS ?
The calibration is done the same way for every android device, wave it in a figure 8 on the x axis, this will calibrate both the compas and the accelerometer.
I have contacted Asus, and the issue, including a link to this topic, is being forwarded to the Asus HQ. Currently there is no calibration tool available. I hope Asus can fix the issue soon.
As stated, calibration using the app GPS status don't have any effect on the tf (maybe not honeycomb compatible for altering sensor values?).

I too think mine is off by about 3 degrees.
Interested parties can grab the MyBeer live wallpaper here.
thankfully that's one weird thing mine doesn't do...3.1 here also.
I had this same problem with my phone. The solution was to spin it rapidly several times on all three axes. Worked like a charm.
Unfortunately, this is a lot easier with a phone than a 10" tablet ...
I wrote ASUS about it and they answered there was a calibration option in the Display parameters menu.
Thts where it s supposed to be i agree, but it s not there.
They don t even know their product.
They don t even check before answering, we re not blind.....if we say it s not ther, that's because it's not there.
I found the solution : i returned mine back to the store and had one well calibrated now. not perfectly but that's far better.
I suggest you all do the same and maybe then, they will check and notice the option is not here !!!
Once rooted with Prime or another rom, is it possible to calibrate the accelerometer with the "sensorcalibutil_yamaha" command, as mine seems to have a slight problem as well ?
I tried on my root TF and it doesn't work.
the calibration file accessible is "sensors-config" but I failed to run it in order to calibrate the tablet
Mine is fine. But for some games and apps it's off.

I'm using the Lochness Monster one. Yes, docked on my desktop, it's perfectly level. Only in some games and apps do I notice that it may be off. But I think that's because of the angle of the device I have it on while I start that program.
Maybe try that?
Make sure you're level, and reboot. Let me know! Maybe it calibrates on startup?
Good idea, but I rebooted in a perfect horizontal position and the problem is still there.
I sent my tf to Asus RMA, due to left speaker problem and accelerometer. The status was 'waiting' for some time and asked what it was waiting for. Asus told me that it was currently waiting for a new speaker AND accelerometer. Unlikely, but maybe this is also a HW issue
DHL is now under its way, hope to see a perfectly working tf with calibrated accelerometer tonight
...
I have the same problem, and there is about 10 degrees rotation in accelerator, I hope that the developer solve it as soon as it is possible, it takes too much time if we wait for Asus supports!
XDA TV (Dark Edition) v1.2
Warning: If the app isn't working, just drop me an email or post the problem here, you don't need to rate the app with 1 star and comment like: "The app isn't working". Thanks for the support
Now you can have all the XDA TV videos wherever you go using this application. Now on your phone, if you have a tablet you should get it here, also you can get the "normal theme" version here.
As many of you have seen, the tablet application got an update, featuring a new feed(that is hosted on my own server), description text and a poster image for each video. I'm now working to bring all of this to the phone version, so stay tuned. Maybe later today it will be finished
I've been working on this for a week. Making the layout using HTML and CSS3 was easy, but I got a lot of problems while trying to make the code work on Android, so I took a bit more to match the code for Android. At the time I can't find another way to open up the videos without firing up the browser to redirect to the Video application, the OS has a lot of problems with HTML5 Video tag so I've done it like this.
The technologies used on this application:
PhoneGap
iScroll
jQuery
HTML5 and CSS3

First Problem: I'm trying to solve this. Strangely PhoneGap is having bugs to work on some ROMs.
Second Problem: That means the app took too long to contact the server(usually because your connection is slow at the time). Just try again and it might work.

I have the same problem as in the "EDIT:" above...
The "The connection to the server was unsuccessful. (file:///android_asset/www/index.html)" problem will be rolling out tomorrow, since it's a server fix and I'll only have time to do it tomorrow, this is happening because your connection might be slow and the app is trying to fetch the entire XDA TV library(all the episodes since the first one), which is causing timeouts. The solution will be to remove the very very old episodes, making the list smaller and reducing the problems with timeouts.
A new version of the app might come out later that will support reading the "old archive", which will be created tomorrow.
PS: I'm having tests this week on the university, plus I need to work, so I'm not having much time to develop
Thanks, will await the fix

Just pushed the server-side fix. I'll be working to replace the black screen on the opening with a fancy splash screen
The feed doesn't seem to be updating on this app. Been checking it for a bit now and it doesn't update while there are newer episodes out. The last one showing on this app is "Nexus, Ice Cream Sandwich, and a Contest to win an HTC Amaze 4G", which is a bit outdated. Anyone else having this problem?

Sorry, I've been working hard and also trying to completely redesign the XDA TV app so I can't update the feed, but I'll try to do it today.
Sorry
Hi!
I am facing a problem with my android tablet. I want to write some notes on tablet with a capacitive stylus (I don't have an active stylus nor do I want to buy one).
Now I can't have strict palm rejection, but I found that some apps have software based palm rejection.
So, I tested those apps, but the palm rejection worked only when I kept my palm very lightly on the screen.
Then, I did some "touch testing", and found out that the tablet doesn't register any touches when I keep my palm rested on the screen.
I am very sure that this is the cause for the software to not work.
Some people uses foam or something like that but I don't like it.
Now, I know that this feature is very useful for mobile devices (and also sometimes on tablets), but this feature is not letting me write or draw on my tablet.
Please tell me if there is some feature in settings which is turned on, or is it not possible to fix this
Also, I don't want to do any "rooting" stuff, I already have bricked my previous phone.
Any reply is highly appreciated .

Touch drawing is turned on,
What I want to say is that, when I keep my palm lightly on the screen, everything works
But if I keep palm rested on the screen, then the tablet itself doesn't register touch inputs.

By the way, this is not the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 or Tab 2.
This is different.
Is there a pen setting in your tab?

No, there is no pen setting in the tab. Actually, I am not using an active pen. I am using a DIY capacitive pen
Hmm there should be some palm rejection setting, maybe in developer menu

I looked for that, but I couldn't find anything. This is my entire developer menu.
Am I missing something?
Have you asked Lenovo themselves about this? Maybe they probably have more idea as to where it is. Maybe you cant disable it

No, I haven't asked Lenovo about this. Could you please tell me how to ask them?

Sorry i forgot about it.
I guess it's a hardware limitation of this model... I asked it on stack exchange and they said that the touch driver might not be able to handle a large touch input like that. The question appeared to me because i watched some old videos and found that the ipads take that large touch input and treat them as a few random points.
For now if I ever want to doodle something i just put a cloth under my palm ... ( I actually just attached some straps on a thick enough piece of cloth to keep it with my hand ). The ones found on the internet that says "palm rejection gloves" were more or less just some thin "sweat reducing gloves", they don't work.
