[Q] Headphone port damaged after 5 days - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While putting on my jacket, I accidentally yanked my headphones out of the port. Since then the port has been very sensitive whereby slight pressure to one side while the headphones are plugged in will severely distort the sound to the point where its warped and nearly inaudible. For a premium device with premium specs and materials, I am very disappointed by this.
Does anyone know if this is easily fixable?

Is it only with this particular set of headphones? Have you tried using another pair to see if the problem might be with the headphones?

You were right, the headphones were the problem. I didn't think so at first because the distortion would occur while shaking the base of the jack right where it connects to the port, while the wire would have no effect.
False alarm.

hey uhm sry for bumping this thread but i got this problem now for a few days with every headphon i use.

The most common technique is to use alcohol and a cotton swab. There are plenty of YouTube videos that give a clear explanation.

When I said there are multiple videos, I was unclear. I meant for smartphones in general; not the S6 specifically.

Low in call volume confirmed fix!

Hey guys, so I've been searching and searching for a fix for this darned low in call volume either from headset or from speaker.
Well after some time of searching I came across a confirmed solution.
I know it sounds weird... But if you take a toothbrush and use the tip on the speakers grills it clears the debris from the speakers and therfore increase volume. I just tried it on my phone and it MAJORLY increased in call volume AND speaker volume (if you clean the rear speaker grill too).
It worked for me so I had to share it. I take no credit for the fix.
Give it a shot and post results.
For your next trick, explain to us how clearing debris from the speakers on the device could possibly help low volume coming from a headset.

I think im confusing you. would "Earpiece" be a better word? the part that you hold your ear to when youre talking on the phone. theres a bunch of little holes right there. clean that part with the bristles of a toothbrush because theyre small enough to fit in the holes and they dont damage anything. ther'es also a set of holes on the back of the phone where the main "speaker" is. you could use the same method on those.
but i mean, my bad for trying to be helpful

Maybe just maybe dust particles can clog the speaker holes. Thus blocking sound from coming through.
You ever think of that?

Your issue might be with the software. What Rom are you running? Also what sound mods if any? I know that they like to interfere. I know I had to really make sure the bristles were getting in to the holes and once I did that debris started to come out. Maybe that helps

Electric toothbrush did the trick for me. Who would have thought!
I just did this, all I have to say is, thank you. My girlfriend was ready to kill me every time I called because i would make her repeat herself constantly.
I tried compressed air first and it seemed to help a little, then I took a clean new toothbrush and "picked" at the speaker holes with the bristles. I was amazed to see all this dust piling up on the screen as it came out. I used to have my volume maxed and any background noise would drown out someone on the line (car was impossible), now I can turn the volume down 4 notches and hear everyone just fine.
I like the idea of electric, some vibration to knock things loose, might try that next time.
Thanks for the idea!
Geeeeeez I picked and picked with the toothbrush. As posted above dirt was flinging all over the screen and back panel. So I took my vaccum extension and would suck it directly over the grilles.. it improved volume by 200% probably. Something I've been complaining about for months, I've skipped over and it took me 5 minutes to improve

HTC ONE M8 call volume
Hi guys,
I did a soft reset and this seemed to have fixed the problem.
Soft reset doesnt delete any data as a factory reset would,
To perform this - Hold and press the Power Button & Volume Up key. The phone will restart.
Good luck!
Is there any solution for low speaker volume ? any suggestion will be appreciated.

Original FlipCase Android 5.1.1

Hello Mates,
I noticed that Samsung changed the behaviour of the notification LED in coop with the original FlipCase.
The LED is turned off (and even 3rd party LED manager) are not able to drive it, when cover is closed.
So no I have to open the cover to check for Notifications...
As I made a custom whole in the cover over the LED I would love to revert this behaviour.
Any Ideas, proposals?
Why do you people always upgrade to the latest Android with Samsung phones without waiting? Samsung stops giving ****s about their phones immediately they release them. Was 5.1 a forced update? If it is, I need to start digging for a way to stop my lovely 4.4.4 kit kat Edge from upgrading. Works fine as is. I have heard nothing but complaints about the Rom updates.
This Flip Case deal just seems ridiculous and even more of a reason to disable any form of update I would get in the future
Hmm NVM. It appears even on 4.4.4 my LED notification all of a sudden quit lighting up with Flip Case. This is bizzarre. Does Samsung always work to screw over its customers like this?
---------- Post added at 01:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:55 AM ----------
Edit: No it works. I just need to widen the hole on my flip case so I can see the LED. looks like its a 5.1 issue for you then

Haven't done it. Yet but I don't suppose it would be rocket science lol. What I do for now is push the flip cover to the left to have the stock oval slit slide over the LED light area.

No from a major phone retailer in the UK
It's not massively noticable but I want it to be perfect for £500+
Mine sounds slightly more quiet on the bottom than the top, although I think it has much more to do with the top speaker being at a different angle. When I turn it sideways I can't tell a difference from right to left
Thank you for answer. My phone has the same problem with speakers but maybe speakers in Xperia works like that. I sent question to Sony Xperia on Facebook and they said that they Xperia's have louder top speaker too.
Mine does exactly the same! Got mine from Vodafone UK today and the bottom speaker is quite a bit weaker. Where did you get yours from? Maybe a dodgy batch? I've had Sony's before and never had this problem.
I think it's software related as it sounds like something is suppressing it for some reason? I've done a factory reset, cleared cache in audio setting and still the same. It's annoying as it makes me think my ears are playing up.would be interesting what build number people are on? Mine is 32.0.A.4.11, I'm looking for generic UK ftf if anyone has a copy???

Haha the box which has spectre 007 written on it and that's all I've discovered so far. The phone is a gun metal grey colour and I though it was meant to be black but I guess that's the normal colour? Oh and one speaker lower in volume that the other but maybe that's some bond trick that makes it different??

Ok after having a play with mine I've noticed that if I stick it really close to my face its obvious one speaker is louder than the other. BUT when I hold it at arms length with elbows bent it sounds like normal stereo, very clever Sony but doesn't help if you're watching or listening to something up close. Try it.

I can't find anything what so ever to do with bond. I think maybe mine isn't and its just the packaging to promote it. I've logged into xperia lounge and all Vodafone apps with no joy! Frustrating! I wanted to be bond!
Thanks for trying, it may not be available yet. I'm sure when it is there will at least be pictures on the web but right now there is nothing anywhere.
Don't feel bad, I want to be Bond too
i think its normal, i have the same issue (if thats what you call it) on my Z3 :/

Mine was the same but after a fiddle it seems to be OK. Give it a couple of days and if you hold it at arms length with your elbows bent it actually sounds normal. Its definitely software related.
Mine was really noticeable on day one but either I've got used to it or its fixed itself it sounds normal and actually better than it did when I first got it. Maybe the system has to adjust or something? Who knows. Hope it helps

Hmm OK thanks, I'll give it a couple days but if it doesn't fix itself I'll have to return it. Someone on the Sony forum said it's a hardware fault so that's got me worried.
Can everyone with the phone state whether they have this issue or not, so we can see whether it's hardware or software related.
Good day everyone!
I can confirm that after a while speakers volume is aligned. Bottom speaker`s volume now is exactly the same as a top speaker`s volume. But when i bought the phone and start testing, bottom speaker`s sound was much weaker than top speaker.
Geez people. Every Xperia Z above Z2 has this "problem". Each speaker is supposed to sound a bit different. I.e. in my Z2 the bottom speaker is more bassy, but the top one is clearer. It's not a problem, these phones are just made that way.

Frustrating strangeness

My M8 is being goofy and I need some advice. For some reason the thing keeps randomly kicking over to docking mode, playing my ringtone, and the diskette defaults to speaker which is getting real hard on my hearing.
I tried wiping and restoring to a NAND backup but the issues persist. I'm thinking firmware or radios are the issue.
If im wrong, can someone suggest a fix? If updating the firmware sounds wise, could some kind soul post a link to the latest firmware for the Verizon M8?

You aren't going to like my answer but this problem can be solved by replacing the flex cable inside the phone. I have had to do this for a few phones already. It's a $15 part plus you would be wise to buy the $11 speaker grill stickers to replace the ones you take off as they won't be reasonably reusable.
There are very small ic and smd on this cable that can break loose and cause this exact symptom.

You're right. I don't like that answer a whole lot. Then again, I do like that it can be fixed for a somewhat reasonable price. The phone spends a lot of time on the dashboard of a big rig and the harsh vibration made me wonder if something like that might be the case. Is is the flex cable for the USB port? I'm probably going to take it to a shop and have it done rather than try it myself.

I keep my phone on my body as little as possible. Its real uncomfortable to have a phone this big stuffed in a pants pocket all day and I almost never wear shirts with pockets. Even when I do I don't put the phone in them because its fallen out too many times. I'll probably lay it on a towel up there or something.
Mege-thanks!
I wanted to take a moment to give many thanks and utmost appreciation for the help on this problem. I got the board today and just finished installing it a few minutes ago. It's working like charm! I'm VERY happy!

My phone has water damage.

My device has suffered water damage (cup of water spilled on it) so it isn't powering on anymore. I've tried doing google searches to see how samsung handles these issues and determines if it's a defect. But so far I haven't found anything. Samsung has already created a repair ticket and said it should be covered under warranty but I cant help but be worried. Can anyone share their experiences?

i passed out in a jacuzzi (under circumstances that need not be examined here) and woke up when the water was cold; probably an hour. my phone was on the bottom of the tub.
the earpiece sounded a bit funny for awhile, but the next day it was fine.
i wonder if it still gets radio reception down there?
