[Q] Unlock when bluetooth is connected - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I use the fingerprint scanner to unlock the S6 normally but when i connect my LG G Watch R to the S6 i have to push the button to wake the phone, then swipe up, then use the fingerprint scanner rather than just waking the phone and using the scanner, it only happens when a bluetooth device is connected?
The watch is paired and set as trusted.
Am i missing something?

It's Google smart lock. It doesn't seem to work correctly with the fingerprint security. Turn it off in settings.

[Q] App for proximity unlocking which is working with Android L and Smart Lock

On my nexus 5 with factory image of Android L I have set up two trusted bluetooth devices (which prevents me from entering my company password everytime I unlock my phone). What I would like to happen when I open my case is that the phone screens turns on and I can view notifications without pressing any button (proximity sensor). I have found apps doing that but they all seem to have errors when next time screen is turned off and on again with my trusted bluetooth paired I still have to enter my password. Also a few have messed up my trusted bluetooth devices completely having me to unpair and pair again Any suggestions?

Get a flip cover with a magnet on volume buttons side, which turns screen on when opened and off when closed.

Fingerprint reader unlock with no fingerprint set up?

So I like that the fingerprint reader can be used to turn on and unlock the phone but it only works if you have a fingerprint and pin/password set up. I have my phone set to swipe to unlock, which makes the fingerprint reader useless. Is there a way to get it to turn on and unlock the phone but not actually have a pin and fingerprint set up? (So anybody's finger would turn on and unlock the phone, basically turning the reader into a button)

The answer is no because that would defeat the purpose of its intended use. I guess I can see where you're coming from. However, no phone maker will ever accommodate that, especially when Apple is touting the security of its iPhone in the case vs the FBI. In fact, fingerprints aren't very secured. That's why every phone forces you to link fingerprints with PIN codes.

Fingerprint While Screen is Off?

My wife just got her S8+, and we were trying to get the fingerprint sensor too unlock to the home screen the way her pixel would. The way it works now, she has to awkwardly reach for the sensor, then swipe up to unlock the device. Any suggestions, or are we out of luck unless Samsung devices to make this a feature in an update?
Did you enable 'Fingerprint unlock' in the settings? I'm able to unlock my S8+ while the screen is off just by putting my finger over the scanner without swiping anything.
I'm not sure of this caused it, but we ran a system update and it started working as expected. Again it may be a coincidence, but it started working right after the update. Mods can delete this thread of they want, it's not a relevant question since it seems to have been a bug.

Yeah, same here
How is the fingerprint unlock supposed to work? On my Nexus 6P, with the screen off, you just put your finger over the sensor and the phone turned on, unlocked. But it seems the S8 requires you to push the power button, then use the fingerprint scanner. Is that correct? Is there a way to have the fingerprint sensor turn on the screen?
(Yes, I do have "fingerprint unlock" turned on in settings.)

I don't have to push my power button to get it to unlock. I just place my finger over the sensor with the screen off and it works instantly and doesn't show the lock screen.
Don't delete it, I almost gave up on this option, reading this made me try again and it's much improved, thanks!
Interesting. I'm not sure what I'm missing, but I can't get mine to do that.
Edit: I may have bigger problems. I can't actually get the phone to lock. I have smart lock turned off and only pattern selected for screen unlock type, but I can just swipe on the lock screen and go to the home screen, without entering the pattern. I assume these two issues are related.
Further edit: OK, the second issue was because of the "secured lock time" setting. So, unrelated.

Well, I got it to work. It actually was the "secured lock time" setting. Basically, if the phone isn't actually locked (because the time in that setting hasn't passed), even though the screen is off, the fingerprint sensor won't wake it. But if more than the set time has elapsed, it does.
Not the best design, but that explains it. My advice: set the secured lock time to zero ("instantly with the power key or when the screen times out").

Hmmn, I have mine lock instantly via power button and tried it... Still works for me
I didn't explain it well. Locking instantly is the way to go.
For some reason, it's set up to use biometrics only if the screen is locked, not just off.

Both mine and my wife's works exceptionally well.

Posted this before but with all the setting correct.
You can simply put your finger on the sensor and it will unlock right to the home screen.
You need to habe the finger print unlock turb on.
This has to be my favorite feature on this phone, beside using it to pull the notification bar down

Does it work on s7 edge?
Is there anyway so I can unlock my phone when it's off using fingerprints?

This is the S8+ forum. You would get a better response in the S7 Edge forums.

OP 6 Automatically unlocks

Hi,
I have a problem with my OP6. I hae the latest OOS 5.1.11.
When I have the phone in my pocket, it's locked, than quite often when pulling out of the pocket I naturally grab it the way, that mu thumb is in the screen (I am not touching the fingerprint sensor) and when I take it out of the pocket, the screen unlocks itself.
Is this problem related to the issues people have posted regarding pocket mode not working and allowing to unlick with fingerprint while still in pocket or another bug or maybe hardware issue?
Thanks
face unlock??
No, its even before it's able to "see" my face. I just feel a small vibration under my finger and it unlocks. Also, for face unlock to be activated I would need to wake up the screen, but the problem is, it wakes up on it's own.

I think you have enabled the 'double tap to wake' option. Sometimes when you hold the phone and touch the screen, it recognizes it as if you double tap it, and then face unlock kicks in. I personally have enabled an extra required swipe up after face unlock to unlock my phone as a solution.
Yes, I have been using double tap to wake, and everything was fine, as I have the phone since the launch. I have started noticing the issues recently. Also, if just touching the screen activates the "double tap" then obviously something is not right, because it happens quite often. I have disabled pocket mode for now to see if anything changes.

Disabling Auto-Unlock with Fingerprint

I'm using a Galaxy S7 Edge running Android 8.0.
How can I stop my phone from unlocking automatically whenever it scans my fingerprint? I'm trying get my phone to unlock only once I've scanned my fingerprint AND pressed the home button (similar to how you would on an iPad and older iPhones).
I'm mainly trying to do this because KLCK (custom lock screen) doesn't go away until it detects that my home button has been pressed and I can't change that.
