Most of the reason I rooted my phone was to be able to force my at&t Skyrocket into 2g mode. I get little to no 3g coverage at work and when the phone switches to edge (2g) I get almost full bars. I have tried cm9 rom which has a known issue with forcing 2g anyway but gave it a shot. I also had aokp with no luck. And yes, I went to settings>network>use 2g mode on both roms. Then I went after radios......I know at&t has a rat locked radio so I thought I'd be clever and try the rogers rat unlocked radio. Got really good data speed, call quality, and signal other than work of course. But still didn't allow the force 2g mode. Tried the *#2263# or whatever and it won't even bring up a menu on at&t phones which is understandable because its a rogers thing. Then I tried the trusty ol *#*#4636#*#*. Wouldn't do anything either. Suggestions anyone? Or maybe its just impossible....

You can force the Skyrocket into GSM-only (2G/EDGE), but your ROM has to support it. Sky ICS does, not sure about others.
*Edit: Just tried it on my phone, and it seems to have worked fine.

You can on cm9 by first going to "select network operator" and choosing at&t. Then 2g networks only will stick. Thank cschmitt for this.

Greeting from Hong Kong.
I encounter the same problem. The 3G (WCDMA2100) signal at my home is too low (<-110dbm) to make a call but my Skrocket could not switch to the 2G network (GSM900 with -85dbm) automatically. I wonder if anyone has an apps that could switch the phone to 2G mode through the servicemode menu (*#2263#, 3, 6) and then back to 3G mode (*#2263#, 2, 6).
Bender mentioned that a Sky ICS ROM could do it. Please let me know where I can obtain this ICS. Thanks very much.

setings, more, mobile networks? Or something similar.
I was wanting to do this without flashing a rom. I am running stock ICS AT&T i727UCLF6.
I have the same problem where i don't get very good 3g service, drop calls all the time and would just like to force it into 2g mode while at work. Why would this be removed from the rom should be a basic feature.
Install RAT unlocked modem, *#2263# and picking specific band that is supported by your provider suppose to work. Tho it's not gonna work on CM/AOSP based roms. It will work on att phones.

Thanks very much. Flashed the Rogers Offical ICS modem found here. [MODEM]Official Rodgers..Release Modem- UXLF3
I am able to change to 2g mode only now. However i was wondering if there is a possibility of automating the process via an app, instead of using the *#2263# via the dialer?
For G only: *#2263#, choose option 3 GSM band preference, Then GSM 1900 I did not get 2g on this option but I hear from others that you can.
For 2g only: *#2263#, choose option 3 GSM band preference, Then GSM 850 Never dropped to G but has the possibility to.
For 3g/HSPA only: *#2263#, choose option 2 WCDMA band preference, Then WCDMA 1900 or 850
To return to normal: *#2263#, Choose Automatic.
I don't have LTE in my area but I believe you can choose LTE B17 from LTE option to have LTE only. Didn't buy for LTE but because it was the best device (specs) through AT&T at the time.

Hello all,
I am having some difficulties getting my LG-H830 working on Verizon. The phone is carrier unlocked, stock rooted and BL unlocked. I've gone through the hidden menu and when I set LTE band to 2 or 4, it says SUCCESS. I've activated the SIM on another phone before moving over to the G5 and it shows up on my account.
I get bars but no LTE symbol, so I can't make calls via VoLTE (voice over LTE) and I don't have data. When I had it working on T-Mobile, there was an LTE symbol so I know it has LTE modem. I'm wondering if I need to modify build.prop to work on bands 2,4?
FYI on the lockscreen top left it says searching. A bit odd since I have four bars.
Any ideas? Appreciate any feedback!
I'm out of a phone until its working.
EDIT/UPDATE:
I'm trying to find the proper build.prop settings to get LTE working. Currently I am looking at my VZW LG G3 build.prop, however I've yet to change any settings that gets the LTE icon showing up. I've replaced the apns-conf.xml file from the G3 in order to have the proper APN configuration.
Things I'm trying (for the most part):
ro.build.target_operator=TMO (as VZW I do not get any service, with TMO it says Verizon Wireless and I get bars, but no LTE)
ro.telephony.default_network=10 (was 9)
telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=1 (was commented out)
ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric=311480 (didn't exist)
ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Verizon (didn't exist)
gsm.sim.operator.alpha=Verizon (didn't exist)
gsm.sim.operator.numeric=311480 (didn't exist)
gsm.operator.alpha=Verizon (didn't exist)
gsm.operator.numeric=311480 (didn't exist)
persist.radio.volte.dan_support=true (didn't exist)
ro.afwdata.LGfeatureset=VZWBASE (was TMUSBASE)
persist.lg.data.fd=0 (was -1)
ro.com.google.clientidbase.ms=android-verizon (was android-hms-tmobile-us)
ro.com.google.clientidbase.am=android-verizon (was android-tmobile-us)
ro.com.google.clientidbase.yt=android-verizon (was android-om-lge)
I can also go into the hidden menu. Attached is what shows after selecting LTE only for the RAT.

The device supposedly doesn't support B13 and VZW in USA uses 2/4/13:

correct... H830 does not support Band 13 LTE.
but the reason I asked what I did was... different bands on Verizon are used in different areas. Just because they support B2/4/13 does not mean all 3 are available in all areas. So if you live in a B13 area.. and you don't have a phone with B13 LTE.. then you're not going to get LTE.
So you need to find out which bands are used in the areas you frequent. If you can confirm that B2 or B4 is used in your area then the issue may be something else. But if you only have B13 in your area... nothing you do will make it work on the H830.

Thank you for the explanation and my apologies for the delayed response. I'm at work now and my VZW G3 is showing XLTE Band 4, CDMA 1xRTT. It is using 311480 as the G5 is configured for. I'll have to install this nice app (LTE Discovery) onto the G5 and compare. If you can think of anything else I may be missing to get LTE rolling on the H830, please let me know.

hmm interesting. have you tried the G5 at work in same location?
I see no reason why LTE on B4 wouldn't work on the H830 as long as the sim slot was unlocked and APN was correct.
Obviously CDMA won't be working on the H830.. nor will Verizon's VoLTE... though you could make calls while on LTE using Google Voice or other 3rd party VOIP apps.
Unfortunately I don't have a Verizon sim I could try to mess with on my H830 to see if I could get it going. Just be sure to confirm the exact area you are testing the H830 in is B4 (I get B12 if I walk into my back yard... but in front yard I get B4).. sim slot is unlocked and the proper APN is showing up as selected in the APN menu.
Hopefully someone in the same situation as you will come along and shed more light on this. Sorry I can't be more help. If I think of anything else I'll come back and mention it.

Verizon VoLTE may only works on whitelisted Verizon devices. And T-Mobiles VoLTE is custom for their network. If there is any sort of VoLTE standard.. the US carriers seem to not be following it.
Someone needs to disable the modular compatibility check so we can swap the USB/speaker for the vzw one. I have a hunch the radios for the g5 are in this part. I had a problem getting a signal one day after a battery swap and turns out I didn't have the module in all the way or dirt got in it. But this led me to a vzw shop were I asked to swap the display models module out with mine and it gave me an error upon boot. So maybe with root someone can figure out how we can swap these around to have a true world phone. The part is cheap on eBay. And maybe it can solve our problem. Mine is T-Mobile.

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy J2 SM-J200F LTE, I usually just get 3G or H+ and I want to get an option to force LTE only.
I did the *#0011# it shows me the service menu :
1- I click the "Plus" button on top-right.
2- I click "Back".
3- Then input "Q".
4- Then "Back" again.
5- Finally input "0000".
I waited for 5 minutes, nothing happened. I repeated the process many times, but still I can't get to the options to choose "LTE only".
PS : I tried *#2263# too, but it shows nothing at all.
I even tried the app "4G LTE SWITCH" . But it says that my device is not compatible.
Please guys, help me.
Is it compatible with the carriers lte? Just because it says it has lte doesn't mean it will work on every carriers lte.
Also if all you are getting is 3g or lte then you may not be in lte coverage.

Yes, it is compatible with the carriers LTE bands, and there is a strong LTE coverage because I tested it in another phone having the same carrier too.

You dont want that. As LTE is a data signal only. If it was only LTE you would never get a phone call or text.
If it is not connection the LTE then my next guess would be that the antenna is not strong enough.
Remember not all devices are equal. Just because one works doesnt mean others will.

Then you will have to build your own rom. Which still might not happen as the part that controls that is not open source. So it will take alot of work. And with that device you will most likely not be able to do anything about it as it is not modable and there is no device that even has the option for you to compare the code.
This is just something you may not be able to do
He wanted to enable LTE only mode. . .so there's a way you need to modify CSC features. .I tried this a year ago. . it's still working

Need to switch to different bands anyone with working methods?
Wouldn't mind finding a way to turn off some bands muself. AT&T has grown fond of band 30.
I drive truck otr and use a signal booster and 30 and a few others are not covered using it.
ServiceModeRIL can do this. I keep band 13 turned off in my city because Verizon sucks and packs everyone on there so speeds, latency and signal quality are crap.
Who is your carrier? Are you rooted? If rooted then this is easy. If not it's still possible but it can depend on your carrier.

Firstly, if you're unrooted and on Exynos (G955F/G955FD), you're out of luck. The code is *#2683662#, however ever since the July update, all builds newer than that have that code disabled so you can't access ServiceMode through that anymore.
If you're rooted and on Exynos, you can use the 'Phone Info Samsung' app to launch either the 2683662 menu or the 2263 menu using root, both will allow you to select and change specific GSM, WCDMA and LTE bands.
If you're on Snapdragon (955U/955U1), you can try either *#2683662# or *#2263#, one or both should work.
Service mode code works on my Galaxy A50 exynos (Sprint) but nothing shows. It's blank.
I can't root this phone since it's not available for it.
Is there a way to unhide the options in service mode?
Use QuickShortcutMaker from Play Store to change or lock Band on both rooted and unroot samsung phones with Exynos processor.
Hello,
It appears based on the bands (best I can tell) the global mi mix 3 may have a chance of working on Verizon? Is that a true statement or to much to hope for?
What other US carriers will it work with?
Thanks!

T-Mobile/Metropcs (2, 4, *5,12, *46, 66, 71, *252, *255) and likely AT&T (2, 4, 5, 12, 17, 29, 30). The doesn't have ALL of those, just listing their respective bands.
Also, Xiaomi will hold a taster event in December (NYC). Mix 3 will probably be there.

Have you tried using "Signal Info" app for MNVO part of google fi? It has a setting to tell it to do the auto switching, not sure if this will engage some setting for the phone or not. Thought I'd check. If not at least you could maybe test the carriers, sprint, US Cell, & Tmobile .

I would like to pose a genreal qustion about sprint's B41. It would seem to me that if the 8G/256G phone receives B41, that this phone would receive it, correct? Unless sprint has done something funky with the B41 spectrum, of course.

It should if the part of the band 41 spectrum is in line with what Sprint uses. Some spectrum blocks use slightly different frequencies. If the Sprint merger with T-Mobile goes through though, Sprint's CDMA will mostly be be eliminated after about a year after the merger completes. T-Mobile did this when they originally bought Metro PCS as well. For longterm use, I would be more concerned with the lack of band 66 and 71 as well as a few other missing T-Mobile bands.

I guess time will tell if B41 will ever work with this phone. Sprint uses FDD (or something) that might be a funky version of their own standard.

Ya, you know, Sprint is going to be tricky to test because Sprint locks their phones. From what I understand, taking a sims out of a Sprint phone and putting it into another does not work because Sprint wants the IMEI from the phone. That is why no one would want to use Sprint or would be desperate to use them. I was just wondering if Big John got a hold of the assets if he would continue the funky thing with the B41 or what it would turn into. It would be intersting to know because B41 has a 7 mile out reach, maybe further. Anyone else has a take on this?
