I'm sure they would probably be able to. The only reason I ask is because I'm rooted and I have a suspicion another OTA is gonna drop on or around release day and I know I won't get it of rooted.

I have my G1 rooted, but I received a message if I would want to update my android. I don't know if I should or not. Any1 please help. And also if it was to be updated would it still be a rooted phone?
Are you sure your G1 is rooted, cause you shouldn't be getting a OTA update threw your provider. It's up to you weather or not to update your phone, my opinion is that rooting makes the phone as good if not better than the phone's they are coming out with this year. You might be on RC29 or RC27 depending if your in the U.S. or in Europe, so you rooted but I would load a custom rom. You can go over to this forum in Xda, http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=448 . I really enjoy cyanogen's mod but you can test them all out based on your needs or wants in a rom. If you need a guide this is a good guide http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod. Hope this helps.
Excuse my complete noobishness, but I have to know.
If I root, but keep the stock ROM (basically, I just want root to get MarketEnabler at this stage) will I still be able to get OTA updates from Google?
The way I understand it, the answer is yes, but I'd like some confirmation from someone who definitely knows more than me.
no.....no.....no.....
Why ? There is any limitation for unlocked devices ? I think problems with ota only for custom rom.
I think so long as your on stock rom you get updates despite su and root. However if it is a major update you will lose root.
Once you root, you won't WANT the OTA update because you will get it from the forums long before it hits your device from Google.
This is a common question asked but its really irrelevant. Just root, the instant the update is released everyone gets it long before Google pushes it to you. Sure you could load a stock ROM and sit there waiting for a week till it pushes meanwhile everyone else just manually grabs it
My wife's phone has never been able to get an OTA update (2 that I know of) on her Infuse. Do we need to check with AT&T on this? (searched for a forum post and couldn't find one)
I also have never been able to get OTA updates. That doesn't bother me cause i run custom roms which usually comes with the updates.
Sent from my Infused 1.6.0
I'm not really sure what I need to do here, but here is the issue.. Months ago I rooted my phone and I THINK I installed a basic rom, but I'm not positive. I definitely have Xposed and a handful of modules installed.
Last week the Verizon OTA update was pushed, and now every time I unlock my phone I get notified and asked to upgrade. I think the best thing would be to disable the prompt. Can I do that? I'm happy with the phone as is and don't care to take the upgrade.

Need to upgrade and am just about ready to pull the trigger on the M8. I understand the root/s-off issues with 4.4.4, and know 4.4.4 is the latest OTA, but if anyone out there has purchased/received their M8 in the last few weeks, can you let us know what OS version came on the phone (prior to the OTA taking hold which I know it will try and do almost right away after turning it on)?
Would love to know they are still coming with earlier versions and then plan to get s-off prior to taking any OTA so I'll be good to root and have fun with this thing.
Thanks!

I cant tell you about the retailers or carriers, but I received a new insurance replacement through asuron last friday and it came with 4.4.2 because I tried firewater at least a dozen times and it would not work. I even tried all the tips listed on xda and nothing worked so I had no choice but to use sunshine. I have seen a lot of posts on xda where people couldn't get firewater to work so I have no clue on that.
Just picked up a M8 yesterday. It came with 4.4.2. After a bit, it prompted upgrade to 4.4.3 which I took. Then it prompted for 4.4.4, which I denied. Confirmed WeakSauce 1.01 failed as has JCase stated. SunShine worked though and now I'm up and running with CM11 again
Got mine delivered from BB today. I'm guessing it had 4.4.2 since it immediately started downloading 4.4.3. I installed it after finding out FoxFi works with that update. Right after the update it asked to download 4.4.4. Without really thinking about it I started the download. I will have to keep declining the install until I make sure FoxFi works with the update. Any idea where to find that out? No contact link on the FoxFi website.
still 4.4.2
I ended up getting mine today and it also had 4.4.2. I was able to unlock and get root and twrp installed prior to any OTA's being installed. 1 OTA was downloaded, but didn't install it.
Anyone know where I can find that OTA download file so I can delete it? It is a large file so would be nice to remove it.....
