First of all, u need to unlock ur bootloader. You can simply Google it or there is a thread here.
Then u have to flash cwm. Procedure is in development thread. Then flash supersu.zip .again, there is a thread for it.
This is what I did since I wanted to try cm11

short answer, no
long answer, no
Haha funny answer : no but what you can do is root with the one click then download and install rom manager and install cwm with that for tmobile sgs2 it will work our phone aparantly isnt in there but its the same as the tmobile sgs2. Also read read read. Go into development section and read the rooting instructions very throughly until u kinda understand the basics of how this stuff works. If u root and have no idea what cwm is or how to get it on your phone id be scared of even trying too root or flash a rom. Best bet is read up on it all before atempting so u dont turn your phone into a paper weight

Thanks for your replies I really appreciate it. I am sorry its in the wrong place, I did look, but I couldnt find it.
@AXD96....if i use that, are there updates for it, and also if I need to unroot it is it possible. Its still under guarantee.
Thanks again.
Can I ask, if somebody could explain, whats the difference between flashing and rooting, having the phone locked or unlocked and how that affects both, being able to use kies, how does that work, if its been rooted.

yes the update yes but you must use cydia 1 time after you will get root access you must install superuser or supersu from playstore and you should do these updates from play store
if you are thinking about firmware update the answer is always yes! )
you cant do updates if you change bootloader,if you want to change rom you MUST change bootloader

android is based off linux. and pretty much has everything a linux computer has except Super user/admin like we have on windows. pretty much rooting is running a exploit to get Super user so we can run applications/ flash OS and other goodies. locked and unlocked have to do with the bootloader. im not the best guy with knowing what a boot loader is but pretty much it boots your OS. if its locked you are unable to flash unsigned Roms so no custom roms pretty much. im not sure why Samsung cant update their phones ota sometimes so they use kies. maybe the file is big enough that it cant be carried ota.

flashing=install some software (brutal force Haha) with flashing you install(copy)data on your phone maybe a firmware,
flashing is used with pc while you flash a firmware or the clockworkmod...
flashing is also used while we speaking about recovery when you install a zip...
routing is the procedure to add superuser function to your android
you can get root flashing a firmware that has included the root
or get it using some exploit
exploit=android bug
there are a lot of bug in android versionS
for example today there arent exploit avariable on android 4.4 and 4.3 but there are 1 or more in android 4.2 4.1
and there are a lot of bug in android 2.3 this os the same of iOS on iPhone, in apple world we talk about JAILBREACK...
if you would like to try to root using exploit you can try FRAMAROOT an app or CYDIAIMPACTOR a software on pc
if you would like to flash a firmware with root you should use ODIN

hit a problem, I downloaded Cydia to my macbook pro, installed it, selected debugging mode and accept downloads from unknown sources, opened Cydia and the drop down option has 'drop SuperSU su to /system/xbin/su' clicked on start and immediately kies wants to open, and then Cydia says 'Error signature bugs unavailable'. What does that mean and why has it happened.
Thank you
Did I mention that it is running 4.1.2.....does this need 4.3?

sorry i was a little late, i have never heard of that cydia app that guy was talking about and i looked it up and it has nothing to do with rooting.
so i looked it up like i promised and i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459910 should work on 4.1.2 the guy said its in Chinese and if you look down there's pictures to find your way through it. yeah once its rooted it should have superuser or SuperSU (same thing made by different people) if it is not on there you might have to download it from the playstore just look one of them up (chainfires SuperSU is recommended) and install it and get a root checker from the playstore as well. Update me if anything happens.

nexus 5 autoroot: downloading root.img failed
Hi Chainfire, thanks a lot for the program!
I actually just paypal'd you a symbolic euro for all the effort.
But after all, de root did not work completely yet,
after the selection menu 'unlock bootloader YES/NO' (I choose NO btw, will stay with the stockrom for a while),
i get the error message
' downloading boot.img FAILED (command write failed (No such file or Directory) ) '
I don't see anyone else reporting this problem on the thread, so my question: what could cause it? What can I do?
Extra inf:
I am on a windows system (7) and had the trouble with usb-driver that was not installed first, dont know if that influenced it?

dont use root toolkits, as you will learn nothing, then think your phone is bricked when it needs some simple upkeep. its a nexus, its easy to root, no toolkits needed, unless you just dont want to learn anything/the basics.
Hi Simms22,
You're absolutely right, thanks for your remark.
Just for the sake of explaining why I tried the toolkit:
I literally just bought the phone (<24h), and I only wanted a quick access to the SU-privileges. I didn't want the unlock the bootloader and go for custom ROMs (yet).
I did this with my previous phone (sony xperia), and all the trouble I had with the process took me 1,5 full days to get the thing running again.
Just to say, I dont want to go all deep into it right now. If I could root my nexus with the tool, that'd be great, but if it isn't possible, I will first explore my new phone as a ordinary user I guess. Going trought all the flashing-nexus-infothreads if for later on.
Thanks for the advice!

Unlocking bootloader and using custom ROMs etc on a Nexus is no where near as complicated as it is on a Sony device (or any other) - in regards to if anything goes wrong, it usually takes 5mins or so to start from scratch on a Nexus again compared to Sony/Samsung etc.
Also remember, there is no warranty issues on a Nexus device either. So you can unlock/lock your BL as and when you see fit.

Ok, thanks a lot for your reply. It gave me confidence to try the 'unlock bootloder'-option, which worked like a charm
I am enjoying now the perks of a good titanium-datatranfer; I like!

Device already unlocked?
Hello,
I am also new to gaining root access on android devices, and I could use some help.
I have a Google Nexus 5, and followed the steps using CF Auto Root, but it only says <waiting for device> when started and wont proceed with anything. I have the device in bootloader and it tells me the Lock State is already unlocked. I haven't left CF Auto Root on <waiting for device> for more than 5 minutes, assuming it shouldn't take that long.
So I went ahead and installed SuperSU via Google Play to see what I could do, but SuperSU tells me that there is no SU binary installed, and that if I just upgraded to android 4.3, I will need to manually re-root. However, I have android 4.4.2.
I have used two different root checking applications, but they both told me that my device does not have proper root access.
Superuser also doesn't seem to work. It wont inform me when I try to use an app to perform root access actions.
Any help on what I could do next would be appreciated.
Thanks ~

Your best bet is to learn to do it manually.
Your next steps are
1) install recovery
2) flash superSU zip from recovery
Recovery is installed by fastboot.
In my signature, is a link to guides and info threads. Click it and then read the thread "adb and fastboot. What is it?"
This will tell you what you need.
Then you can download TWRP recovery image to flash.
Solved
It seems that my driver wasn't very compatible, and now my phone has been successfully unlocked. Thank you for the help.

Try flashing pie patch. http://forum.xda-developers.com/goo...x-bypassing-pie-security-check-t2797731/page2 (post #13).
If problem still exists, try to install SELinuxModeChanger from the play store and change SELinux mode to permissive.

There are thing that I am not aloowed to do like disable startup apps and give some apps# permission

Thanks, pie patch did the trick for me.

Relocking the bootloader will not reset your warranty, for that you would have to run CWMbootunlocker script in twrp or cwm or philz. Oh and here is the link to a good thread to explain all that..

That is because of new SELinux polices which developers will need to workaround it ..
WARNING WARNING WARNING
You could use SELinux mode changer or run setenforce via term emulator and set it to permissive However!! this allows more malware to have access to your phone basiclly
Want to ROOT my N5, just root it, already unlocked bootloader.
Hi,
I just want to root my nexus 5. I am on Android 5.0, updated during the official rollout, and not using any custom flash/ROM.
Boot-loader is already unlocked, I had rooted it when on 4.4.4 Kitkat, but after I updated to Lollipop, all root priviledges were lost.
I do not want to flash any custom ROM or anything, just want to root it.
I found may threads and guides showing how to root is, but all of them included unlocking bootloader or flashing a custom ROM.
I dont even know what a custom ROM is and what is its use?!?! (noob)
Please just help me root my phone.
Thanks

Apply update to version 2.37?
Hi all,
I rooted my Nexus 5 running Lollipop some time before with CF-Auto-Root. I think Chainfire still used a patched kernel in this approach and installed SuperSU v2.20.
Afaik Chainfire managed to get root without the need for a patched kernel now. Therefore I would like to update to v2.37. Can I? How? Would the kernel stay patched after using the latest CF-Auto-Root? Do I need to go back to the stock kernel before applying the latest CF-Auto-Root? And how to go back to the stock kernel?
Thanks for your help!

HTC Quick Root?!

Hy, Thank you for checking out my post.
I got little problem,
So i wanted to play Clash Of Clans on my phone, the only problem i have is that the application is incompatible.
So searched some fixes how to do that, and the majority of them were APK file's or Buildprop or Market Helper.
And they all looked great and that they would work, but every time you needed to Root your phone.
This is my first time rooting a phone so i wanted to be sure i would not make any mistake's or fails.
So i was looking up on how to root my HTC Desire S, and i came a cross this site that noticed me on the program called: HTC Quick Root, but im wondering what to do from there since there are no tutorials or forum's that show this work's, or maybe i am just a retard in searching stuff...
But yea, i was wondering if you guys know if its: Safe? Or how it works? and what Root Method to choose (Universal Exploit or Insecure Boot.img, i want Market Helper btw)
Pleas let me know, and if you guys think im a dump ass and im doing something really wrong, pleas dont go hard on me, im a noob

You need S-OFF + insecure kernel to use the Quick Root.
Easy way to gain ROOT access:
Unlock your bootloader using HTCdev.com
Flash TWRP (custom recovery) via fastboot
Flash SuperSU (root) via TWRP

Any reason to get mad ?!
root = gain root access for your device
S-ON/S-OFF means "Security Flag" of your device on/off. Stock is S-ON
I can't suggest the "quick root" as it won't make anything easier for you if your device is running stock android.
TWRP is a "custom recovery" which gives you the ability to flash any custom roms or zip files. SuperSU is a zip file that will grant you permanent root access.

Hi I have just got new samsung A21 (SM-A217F) and have tried to root it with magisk but cant seem to manage it, I dont know if I am doing some thing wrong or if it just doesnt work .
I have managed to unlock the boot loader, there doesnt seem to be twrp recovery for it yet.
So does anyone know if this phone can be rooted yet?
