Anyone tried it yet???
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2009/02/google-mobile-app-now-available-on.html
I notice the search bar looks very similar to the one in android, definitely prettier than the old google search today plug-in for wm...
Gonna try it, wonder if its tied to PIE. Hope not. Would be awesome if it could use opera mini though I really doubt that.
It's nice that it's possible to bring it up in any app using a hotkey...
I cannot get the dmn cab out of it. the "m.google.com" is a redirecting looper
cannot get the cab too
can someone post it / attach it?
Ok I found how to get it.
Just use Internet Explorer Mobile to download cabs from google's mobile phone related websites. IE Mobile is lousy enough to be detected as a mobile phone browser; Most other modern mobile browser (such as opera mobile), are detected as desktop browser, and that's why we can't reach the page with the download (wonder why by the way).
Anyway I attached the cab, that I go using previously described method.
Ive been using it a few days now.
It uses your default system browser, whatever you have that set as. Essentially it is just icons for all of the google apps and a search bar that passes info to your browser. Would be pretty sweet on a faster phone but my phone takes about 20 seconds just to open iris or opera mobile so the time saved of not having to goto google and manually do the search is negligible
I am still using it though, saves some desktop space vs the Icons I had up for all of my google apps on claunch... and it looks cool.
Does anyone use Fire Fox web browser on Sensation? If so do you know if we can get Greasemonkey installed? Or something that can run a user script file?
Thanks
I had Firefox beta 6 I believe (or whatever the latest one is) and I didn't even keep it long enough to figure out if you can run those. I really prefer stock browser over that slow junk.
Just my opinion though

I also use mobile firefox. I have both 5 and 6 Beta installed. AFAIK Greasemoney is currently only available as a Desktop plug in.
I am not sure what others will do the job for you, but you can try searching their mobile plug in library.
To do this in FF:
-Swipe the entire page left
-Tap the gear icon on the bottom right (this will bring up a new screen)
-Tap the puzzle icon on the top to select the plugins page
-On the plugin page there will be a search box below your installed plugins.
Hope this helps.

I find Firefox quite unusable on the Sensation, a couple of open tabs is sufficient to cause Sense to shut down, requiring a restart when you exit the browser. Thats partly the Sensation's fault because of its low free RAM, and partly Firefox's fault for being bloatware. Frustrating, since I like Firefox in my SGSII and Galaxy Tab 10.1, which can cope with it despite its resource-hunger.
i actually havent had any issues with firefox, but i prefer the stock browser...
the best part about firefox on android is saving entire webpages as pdf's!
that, and syncing with your desktop. that was a clever idea
Try to use Dolphin Browser HD.
Would a plug in cound as a .JS file? As the site I'm playing needs this user script to have it more customizable. I've had no problems with FF or the sock browser, I've found that FF loads faster on some pages than the stock, but the stock just seems more simple to use.
Thanks again guys
Or if someoen has worked on a mobile version of "greasemonkey" ?
I recommend dolphin mini

opera mobile... hardware accelerated pinch and scroll = win.
I used FireFox for a bit totally not useable I've now switched to opera and do far so good

i have firefox... sadly firefox doesnt support alot of things at the moment like flash, etc... i find dolphin hd to be the best browser by far for android... and once firefox catches up i will probably switch back over.... i think firefox has only realised the mass market of android in terms of their browser use as many are firefox desktop users... in time features will be implemented
I got flash to show up on Mobileburn with Firefox but it was kind of unstable and crashed..
Anyway Firefox uses less ram than any other browser (besides stock I think) and runs smoothly on my Sensation 4G. The Sense launcher is getting pushed out of the memory because it stinks. It happens with Dolphin, Opera Mobile and etc.
i have been looking for a way to get internet explorer web sites to work on my tablet but have had no luck as of yet could someone help me out or is there something to do. tried the about:debug did not work. please help
thanks in advance
What tablet do you have and which version of android are you running? If your running ICS or your device has support for ICS you can try Chrome on your tablet.
I have the ZTE optik v55 running 3.2 Android

well after doing some research on the tablet....there are some rumors going around a OTA update for the Optik that's supposed to have android 4.0. But there's nothing solid. The other alternatives you could use are like Dolphin Browser HD and Opera Mini Web Browser. If you go with Dolphin be sure to set it as desktop so it will give you normal full sites instead of the mobile version of sites.

Use Opera HD instead of Dolphin and set it to desktop. This is as close as you will get to proper rendering. However, the site may play nicer with firefox set to desktop user agent.
I think ie is does'nt exist on android device CMIIW ....
You can try chrome if your tablet running ICS..
Thanks Opera works like a charm, thanks all of you for the information

What do you need Internet Explorer?
It's very lazy browser i think.
Maybe you should try Dolphin Browser or Opera(Mobile or Mini-i think Mini is better, light and faster)

That's all well and good, but I also could do with IE on Android because some sites I need to access are specifically written for IE. While I can fudge the Agent string to get round the checks the website does, once in, it doesn't render correctly and you can't use the site.
I wish IE was also available because the default browser is clunky. I've heard Dolphon Browser is good, anybody have an opinion on Dolphin?
help

That is a compatibility problem of poor web code of the website you're trying to access, not the browser.
IE is developed by Microsoft and since they have Windows Mobile I doubt they're going to port IE to android. That being said, there are probably some unofficiall unstable ports and google is your friend there, but it's surely not worth the hassle.

Dolphin is great in every way, except that it doesn't support flash in it's pages, like Firefox does (and in the case of IE compatibility; it won't be able to render IE specific ActiveX plugins). If anyone finds a way to emulate or run IE under Android; I'll be most interested to know what's involved.
Someone on another forum post somewhere, mentioned that IE mobile (assuming it works for the sites in question); could potentially be ported or emulated with a Windows Mobile emulator? AFAIK: nobody has done this yet (probably fearing reprisal from Microsoft). But if it was done in such a way that if you owned a WM device; you could pull the binary off the existing phone, and run it in an emulated form under Android (effectively avoiding some of the reverse engineering contract clauses, and having the owners assume responsibility for not distributing copied images (already in the MS EULA)...then it might be sufficiently grey area that you could have a personal copy running (be it rather wastefully)?
opera renders sites good like pc browser
i think it is the closest browser to pc's
What do you guys think is the best Browser for ICS or jelly bean on this device?
I had been using Xscope and really liked 2 features.
1. I could save my favorite sites on my computer as an html file and then just open that file on xscope and I had them all ready to go. I had roughly 60 sites, other browsers dolphin, opera, android could not do this.
2. My favorites would then be saved on my homepage in a "speed dial" like mode where I could just scroll and click on the site. I loved this because it was simple to use and looked great.
I would like a browser that could do this. I would also like a browser that could play flash on sites fairy well? If possible? If it happened to be blazing fast, that would be great.
Sites that I use
twitch.tv
espn.com
firstrowsports.eu
chess.com
xda!
Thank you for the advice!
dont know about you, but i rather enjoy chrome

never been able to use chrome on android yet. So I have no idea if its good or not.
Dolphin works the best on the sites that I go to. I can also save my favorites and just log in and have them back again when I flash a new rom.

IMO Chrome on phones sucks. I'm using it on my desktop/laptop and I love it. But as far as browsers for my mobile devices I go with Boat browser. It's simple, clean and bug free. It doesn't have the option to import bookmarks from other devices though, but I have few sites that I actually bookmark.
As far as Chrome syncing to the phone, just install an add-on to your desktop called Chrome to Phone.... you then install an app called the same thing on your phone and you can send ANYTHING you choose too(as long as you can open it in the browser) to your phone and have it automatically pull the webpage up or start a download etc...
I've tried literally every single browser there is multiple times. I've tried beta versions, lite versions, and everything in between. I've come to the conclusion that almost every browser for android absolutely blows. Seriously. They blow. The only good ones are ICS+ and boat browser with boat being the one I use. The rest are laggy, clunky, uncustomizable wastes. Chrome doesn't even have double tap to zoom images ffs.
Chrome for me. I have 3 devices and it saves mobile and desktop bookmarks. When you reflash, just sign in and everything is restored.
I use Chrome but noticed the stock browser loads pages a lot faster

ICS+ >Boat browser> the rest
I guess I will have to try a few then once my GIII arrives.
I appreciate all the advice.
ICS+ browser for me, I've always liked the aosp ics browser. Then Dolphin or chrome
Haven't tried any others, really but Maxthon Browser has kept me satisfied to not seek alternatives. Tabbed browsing with a home screen for shortcuts to frequently used sites.
Lastpass.com and the android browser associated with it is actually pretty sweet, autologins and password saving is excellent

That's where i'm at now. Before I liked opera mobile (not mini) but chrome is a bit nicer to use in my opinion.
I'm using Chrome on my PC and phone, I love the sync between the two. Shared bookmarks is awesome.
Ive tried out a few from peoples recommendations and I always come back to dolphin. I love the favorites on the left side to drag out and overall its always been smooth for me
Tap'n
Ok I have the ICS browser and Chrome. I logged into my gmail and chrome information. I did not see any of my bookmarks in chrome browser. However when I go to the ICS browser it has all my chrome bookmarks....
Can anyone help me out with that?
Maxthon
I really like Maxthon, instant back is a must for me. It is similar to Miren which I loved on Froyo/Gingerbread.
Opera: it's fast, has very good window management and incorporates the best text reflow on zoom in/out of the browsers I have tried. For that matter, Chrome and Stock ICS browsers don't reflow text and Firefox had its own issues.
Opera plays Flash apps fine, from what I've experienced.
Opera Link can offer a central sharing point for your favorites/bookmarks and other settings between your Opera browsers, so copying around a hardcopy file you've generated would probably not be necessary.

I have been playing with a lot of the browsers, does anyone know if any of them can stream tv such as..
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/
http://atdhenet.tv/
etc?
Running stock ROM on G930U. When I access www.usatoday.com with the stock browser on a wifi connection I get a blank page. If I select the option to access the desktop version of the web site it works. Also the mobile version works with the Chrome browser. Anyone else have this issue?
Yes. I've run in this kind of issue for some websites (e.g. github). I guess it's browser's Javascript engine's fault, just doesn't work like Chrome's. That hasn't swayed me from it, though; I find Samsung's browser excellent regardless.
And if I run in a problem like this, I just use Chrome. Cheers
