Has anyone encrypted their memory and SD? If so have you noticed any effect on speed/battery performance?
I'm thinking of encryption as I work in a profession where I have sensitive health info about patients sometimes stored on my device and want to cover myself legally.
I have. I'm thinking of doing it again just so that no one can plug into my phone and scan it (ie cops/tsa). If you reset your phone, which I did, all encryption is removed. I did not notice any slow downs or anything like that. Plus, my phones not rooted so I'm not really sure I want my sd card encrypted as I wouldn't be able to take it out and work with it. It's mostly the phone and its information that I would be worried about.

Thanks, guess I'll give it a try.
I'd second that. Here's why.

I'm in the process of deciding whether I get the Inspire or wait for the Infuse. I'm new to smart phones, but been reading a ton.
My question; is the 4 GB on the Inspire sufficient for the numerous apps I am likely to put on it? I think I've read about apps that let you place apps on the mSD. Is this even a concern I need to worry about?
Thanks for the help. Searched the forum and didn't see this addressed. Probably means it's a dumb question. I'm trying to get smart
Unless your going to have a couple hundred apps you shouldnt really worry to much.

I've downloaded plenty of apps and never even gotten close to using up the internal memory. I move what I can to the SD card, usually (it's not hard to do, and it's a feature built into the phone now).
Ditto, you'd have to work pretty hard to fill up that space, most programs are pretty small. But remember that many applications now support the A2SD function, so in the unlikely event that you start running out of room, moving them to your SD card is an option. I notice very little performance difference between apps on the card and apps run internally.
I am preparing to travel abroad and I am taking my Asus TF with me. My question is would you or do you password protect your tablet and its information. I see under the security tab in settings that I can use a screen lock or encrypt tablet. Encrypt tablet seems very secure but you cannot unencrypt your tablet unless you do a factor data reset. What do you suggest to protect the information on your tablet? Thanks in advance!
I also am about to travel abroad and the only thing I can figure is to pw or pin protect it. Seekdroid may be an option but the tablet needs an internet connection for it to work.
Not only do you have to factory restore, but also you need to be on stock recovery.
Otherwise, people are having problems with everything: factory restore, nandroid backup and restore, mounting the data partition in CWM.
I would stay away from the "encrypt" function, but I don't have any suggestions for your task.

I'm overseas right now and I just used a pattern unlock and also set up the droidvpn app since all the networks I've connected to are unsecured. Plus it lets me still watch hulu

Is there a reason you don't suggest using the built in encrypt function?
Using a memory card plugged into the MicroSD slot might not be good idea as well. Or at least storing sensitive data on it would be quite risky. Especially as it can be removed/replaced quite easily.

I did not think of that. I thought about how I like the micro sd card being only accessible by removing the cover of my Epic Touch 4G for security reasons. Yes, it might be a pain to switch it out but if cell phone is ever left on the table or anywhere for a second it would be really interesting to watch someone frustrate themselves trying to get the batter cover off. I'd watch for a minute. Much easier to eject the from the card slot which my TF101 has.
I think I will put the 2GB in when going through security and everything or maybe keep the case with me so I can switch them out. Once I arrive I will leave in the 32GB. I bet some of those airline people hate their jobs and might take something small like that. Some would notice and some would not. But some people risk it.
I won't. I will just password pin mine. I think there are some apps to unlock. Actually, if you use a launcher can't you lock the launcher so that way when you wake display you have to unlock the tablet+launcher lock? Double security.
Never heard of being able to lock the launcher. Another idea is to lock certain apps..numerous apps for that.
And don't forget to pay attention about security using your banking apps at common places with free wi-fi spots. For these needs it's worth using a data-only sim card, f.ex MTXConnect or local sim cards.
When I putt he SD into my phone (currently running Paranoid KANG droid 2.32) I actually get nothing more than an occasional "SD has been removed" message. However, when I put the card into my old OG droid (running Cyanogenmod 7) i get the "unsupported file system" error. This has happened before, and I just had to wait it out before the SD recovered on its own. It is not doing this now. (yes I am an idiot for still using it despite my 32 gigs of internal storage). I have a feeling it is formatted as RAW due to a formatting issue, but I can't get anything else (pc or other devices) to recognize the card, other than my OG droid. So what I want to know, is if there is a way to force mount the card, or give a PC control over the sdcard path and force mount it some way through the PC (effectively turning my phone into an external card reader, because traditional methods don't work). I need a workaround for this, because there are dozens of pictures of my family, puppies, and friends on it that I don't want to lose.
Back up the card of you can, it sounds like it's dying on you. This phone really s3ms to kill cards, I've already gone through 2 32gig cards.
I had a 32GB Sandisk Ultra MicroSD card, and by chatting with Sandisk support, I am going to exchange my dead card for a working card. BTW, while you can, salvage the data you can, because it starts out like that, before becoming completely unusable.
I've went through two SanDisk. They are easy to work with, just get the ball rolling on the replacement.
Like the others said, get your data backed up as soon as you can.

wow. so now not only am I not able to use my phone on tmobile's 4g, I also cannot have external storage because the phone destroys it? what a tremendously idiotic piece of crap.
does anyone know about any apps or pc software that would help me get my data back? I have the card reader but the pc wants to format the card and so does the phone. I need, like, mad rescue gear.
thanks!
Wow... You can't use it on someone else's 4g because it was designed for a different network.
Also I've not had any problems whatsoever with my external.

Had 4 of these cards for a year now and not one hiccup. I'd say whatever is happening to them, its something you are doing to crap them, not the vendors. ALways backup your critical data, but if you treat these cards properly they will work and last as well as any.
No, you CAN use it on someone elses network, just not T-mobile as it doesn't do hdspa+ 1700, 1900... There's even a bounty out for that elsewhere on xda, to enable these bands, I believe it's currently at over $200.
And no, I'm not doing crap to the SD card. I've had it for over two years, used it on a different phone before that, never did anything different and it just died out of the blue. I'm not a noob, I would know if I had done something to it.
You would be pretty pissed off too if all your data was deleted, the phone you spent many many hours working to pay for did not work and when you ask for help someone blames you instead of helping. But I guess it's easier to blame than to help out right?
I get that part. However, don't get mad that it doesn't work fully for the network is wasn't designed for. That was my biggest part. I know there's a bounty. However, its been up for forever and nothing has come of it. I can't stand seeing people gripe about this phone because its not literally magic. Verizon's stuff is locked down, always has been, probably always will. Its a different radio/modem/antenna set than the tmo and at&t versions. It was meant to run on Verizon's network. Period.

wow i recover my files
hi guys, i had same problem, but then i set this sandisk ultra to my nokia xpress music and there was everything,,, my arc s cant open it anymore but nokia opens... try to reset your sd s to others phone...
Hey guys, never really thought about it before because I'm a careful guy but I just gave my N4,to my little brother and now I'm curious, is there an app that can locate/lock/wipe/brick a phone remotely EVEN IF it lands in the capable hands of someone who could wipe/format it?
Obviously I'd prefer to be able to pinpoint it using forced GPS or forced internet regardless if the phone is set on location reporting off or data off. And would also like to only resort to the remote bricking as a last resort.
I've checked around and haven't been able to find any apps that fits my demanding request so I'm asking for a 'best fit' app that any of you all may know and free is always a plus
Tldr; is there an app that locates phones and devices if if its formatted or wiped?

Once wiped, whatever app you paid for or got for free, is... wiped, hence answering your question.

Other than you pretty much opening your phone, hardwiring a microscopic device to the battery and hoping no one finds it? Nope. Not that I know of. I could be wrong.
That would be quite an interesting concept to have though. Maybe a partition that isn't user accessible and not wiped as part of a factory reset. I doubt most thieves will go into recovery and flash roms and modify partitions. LOL
I wonder how that kill switch Samsung or one of the manufacturers want/ed to or have already introduced works, i.e whether a device wipe disabled that feature.
A untouchable partition would be great, locked up by a user password, and ensuring constant validation and communication of each individual phone would be great since an imei # can only do so much

Hello everyone.
Due to some circumstances I lost my oneplus one.
It was snatched from me by two guys
I was already using some other phone and kept Oneplus One as reserve.
My question is what are the chances to extract data from that phone.
TWRP was already there
(1) Dalvik cache, System, Cache Data and Internal Storage was wiped through twrp
http://www.technobuzz.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/TWRP-Wipe-Cache-and-Data-System.jpg
(2) Data was formatted
http://cloud.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/TWRP-Recovery-Format-Data.jpg
(3) Fresh rom was installed using USB-OTG
(4) Complete internal storage was filled with dummy data and deleted it
(5) Then I was using that phone for emails and gaming purpose only.
Phone was not encrypted
Do data which were stored in that mobile before wiping and fresh installation of rom can be recovered by those culprits?
Hello Experts,
Please provide your valuable views
As you know with TWRP you can bypass and access files. However if you only used it for email and gaming purposes last. I don't think you have much to worry about.
It really sucks that there's such low people out there. I wish all phones came with the 'kill switch' feature by default.

Hi forid200
Thanks for reply.
Before I was using it as my primary phone.
As I already have one more cellphone, I'd kept Oneplus One as spare.
Before keeping it ,below procedure has been done :-

In such case is there still chances for old data to be stolen?

I'm seriously not seeing what you're worrying about, you barely had any data on that phone and when people steal a phone they want to sell it 99% of the time not get your personal data. Unless you're a very influential/famous person in your country whose data is extremely important hence more valuable than the phone itself, which I highly doubt you are. Whether there's a chance or not is irrelevant at this point, the phone is gone what happens to it is out of your control. Get a new phone and enjoy your life

That's very bluntly said, however, it is true. The phone is gone, the thieves are probably more interested in selling it rather than looking through your porn collection. There's a few things you can try and do, you can try wiping it through Android device manager. Truthfully, if the sims out and the phone has no data connection. It will fail.
You can report it to the carrier/police and get the devices IMEI blocked. If you kept your OnePlus box like I have, you will see a small sticker with the devices IMEI written on it. This will render it useless as a mobile.
I know how annoyed you must feel, losing your device, data. And I understand that after you have a phone for a while, it starts to have slight 'sentimental' value to you, you could say. Thieves attempted to rob me a few times (here in London), I nearly got sprayed with corrosive acid, I nearly got stabbed, I put up a good fight and they couldn't get anything from me. But it did get me to think, how much is a device worth to you man? Is it worth more than your life?
These people robbing, they have no heart, no soul, they don't give a ****. I think cellphone manufacturers should all become more responsible and start building in kill switches.
My best advice to you is the above, these thieves will be out there. And it can happen, the OnePlus One is pretty old now. So I guess it should hurt less, get yourself a OnePlus 3, or as you said, it was your spare device. So just use whatever you have.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for nice reply which really made my day.
I was only afraid for my old personal scanned documents and family photographs.
Any how, your words have provided me potency and ray of light that let bygones be bygones
I'll try to search that box and request for IMEI block.
Thanks you so much
