Hello people!
After successfully installation of Cosmic ROM on Core Duos and rooting, I have tried to restore my apps with Titanium Backup. Most of apps are successfully restored, but some system apps like memo app or similar can't be restored. Memo app is really important to me, so I have tried many of tutorials to install it(I have about 500 memos for 2 months). So I badly need that app back. And tonight I have tried to download some Memo.apk from here, and to place it directly to system/app. But after restarting, my phone won't boot in. Just White screen with CM10 Logo and looks like it's booting, but I waited about 15 min. and nothing happens.
I tried to delete that app via PhilZ Aroma File Manager, but nothing happen. Also I tried to clean Dalvik cache and formatting /cache , but result is same.
Please, is there any solution to fix this as son as possible, but to not flash device?
I will be thankful for any kind of help, couse this is my only device.
Thanks in advance!
do you set the right persmission of memo.apk after you copy it to system/app? [ should be rw- r-- r-- ]

Hey so I was hoping you could help me out. I had a bunch of stuff saved in my mini diary when I flashed 2.2 for Continuum. The new ROM didnt include this app and I lost it. I have the data saved with Titanium backup but it didnt save an apk.
If anyone has the apk that would be awesome.
download the EC07 Clean zip, unzip it and grab it out of there, along with any other stock app you need
Alright so I went out and got the apk from the EC07 clean however when I try installing it I get Application not installed.
I then tried putting it in system/apps which makes it show up however when I run the app it always force closes.
Help me out?
weird, ummmm, flash EC07-Clean? idk I've never used mini diary, just always deleted it first thing
You need to manually put it in /system/app of course, you need root for that

If its fc'ing on a manual push to system/apparel, id flash the clean Ron, back up the app with titanium backup, reflash Nickinson ember and restore. Just remember to wipe dalvik after each flash

Alright got it figured out. I noticed some of the permissions got changed when I copied it into system/app so I changed those and it now works! Thanks for the help everyone!
i'm having the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S2 for T-mobile. I tried both ways to restore it, via Titanium Backup and manually moving the APK file to system/app. i got the same "App not installed" message.
What exactly did you change on the permission? Did you change it in Super Manager? Can you post it step by step. How do you even change the permissions? Sorry, i'm a noob here.
Thanks for any help.
I used root explorer to push it into the system/app folder. Upon pushing the apk the permissions were rwxrwxrwx
Once the apk was in the folder I change the permissions to rwxr-xr-x or
Owner: read write execute
Group: read execute
Others: read execute
To change the permissions in Root Explorer you just push/hold the apk in the system/app folder and then select permissions.
hmmm...... i did exactly as you did. changed permission the same as you had it. still no luck. i even turned off phone and rebooted. Can anyone help?

Just copy and paste with root exorer and set permissions r-w-r-r and reboot.
In which folder can I paste? System / App (folder) ?
when I reboot appears an android error message that terminate a system process
Just I repeated the copy/paste and finally works! Thanks!!

Nothing to do. Startup error appears again. What should I do?
I think I accidentally removed the LiveWallpapersPicker from my ASUS Transformer TF101 with AOKP ROM.
When I long press the homescreen I can only choose between Gallery and Wallpapers.
I found some "LiveWallpapersPicker.apk"s, but when I tried to install them, I got an incompatible error, or a message saying there is no certificate.
Can anybody help me with this?
Use a Root Explorer or other manage root app, unmount system, paste LiveWallpapersPicker.apk onto the correct directory, mount system and reboot the phone. (I dont know what is the exact directory because I don't have any Android phone, my science is only theoretical)
That worked! Thanks a lot!
Hi all,
In order to show the SMS's sent timestamp, I replaced the system's messaging app with handcent message. I backup all the following apps with Titanium backup, and uninstall them by Titanium uninstalling function.
Conversations.apk
Messaging.apk
MessageWidget.apk
UniversalInbox.apk
But the Titanium backup failed to restore the system messaging app after experiment. When i want to restore the apps referred ahead, the Titanium frozen.
And I extract all the apps from a ROM, and want to restore them by "Systemapp Remover". The remover show success, and i reboot the phone, but nothing changed. and i found in the systemapp remover interface, all the 4 apps' status were "disabled".
I think a backup from a running Atrix 2 will help my restore all the apps.
so does anybody can backup all the four system apps by "Systemapp remover", zip the SD:\SystemAppBack folder, and email the zipped file to me. and i will try restore them.
Thank you in advanced, i do not want to reflash my phone. Thank you in advanced.

First off, you should never uninstall or delete system apps, you should always freeze them, that way if you have a problem and need them later you can just defrost them.
Second, the core phone apps like messaging and dialer should never be frozen or removed, they are needed even by replacement apps such as Handcent.
Third, you can get those apps from any ROM that still has the stock apps such as SCv6 or better yet the Stock Monster which is in the Themes and Apps section. Just download, then unzip the ROM and go to the /system/app folder. If you get it from a de-odexed ROM just grab the apk files, if you get them from an odexed ROM (such as The Stock Monster) make sure you grab both the apk and the odex files for each app.
Lastly, please research before doing things to anything in the /system folder...messing up something there is a sure fire way to get stuck in a bootloop or softbrick.

Wait! The (now defunct) Stock Monster doesn't have those apps... Try Romulus if you are still on stock odexed, or Remus if you are deodexed - they both have most of the stock apps.
Also, you need the classes.dex file in the deodexed apks, so you couldn't just grab the apks only from the Stock Monster anyway if you are deodexed.
In fact, are you odexed or deodexed? I could throw those apps in a CWM recovery zip real quick for you...
Hi alteredlikeness,
Thank you so much.
but i used systemapp remover instead of recovering the zip file sent by you. But the same, all the 4 apps restored, but status were "disabled" even if rebooting the phone.
I'm wondering whether there was a file recorded the system files' hashing key? so i restore the file with system app remover always fails.

I have no experience with systemapp remover.. did you try to flash the zip through cwm recovery?
My thought is maybe the permissions are not correct.. you can check and change the permissions with root explorer, or use the "fix permissions" option in cwm recovery.

Browse the /system/app/ directory with Root Explorer, all the 8 files permission were correct, and i reboot the phone, but all the apps were still disabled.
Thank all, i had recover all the files from a backup files from the same version. Maybe android will check the system apps' version or MD5 hash.
Hey guys,
I still rename my bloat, I know, you probably see this as lame, but maybe someone has the answer anyway.
In system/app, the Motorola Migrate apk (fswriter.apk) can be renamed using root and Root Explorer, but after a minute or so, or a reboot, the apk returns to the original name (I usually add .old to the end). Just about all of the other apks I rename in that folder retain .old in the name even after a reboot. The entire contents of system/vendor/app does this. I can rename the apks, refresh and see they are still renamed, and then a minute later, or a reboot later, they drop the .old or .delete extension.
For now, I disabled the ones that appear in the app drawer, but maybe someone who is curious enough knows the answer.
Thanks,
Jason

are you rebooting into R/W mode aka recovery mode? For this line of Droids, after rooting, in order for you remove or change anything within the system you need to reboot into "recovery" and i use the quotations is because in all androids in the past (at least the ones i have had) recovery is TWRP or CWM but with our phones recovery is the OS but the OS is R/W...so make sure you are rooted and then you can either use an app like Rom Toolbox for example, use the rebooter option within and in that menu select Reboot Recovery, it'll reboot into the OS but rewritable once you are booted that way you can add and remove system apps as well as make any name changes to the system files and whatnot...hope this helps
Holo reboot in play store works great for rebooting into recovery or just a normal reboot!
