I was wondering if it is possible to port Salifish OS for our L. I know we'll have to downgrade now that we have LP. But I really liked the UI. Senior developers, can you build it or give a step-by-step guide for building it?
Anyone with me?
Everything is possible, but you can't expect a step-by-step guide. You do have to search, try, fail, learn and succeed yourself...
By the way, this is the wrong forum section for questions.

I am a complete noob compared to everyone here when it comes to mobile phones. I was just wondering if someone can link me to a good guide that explains everything from rooting to roms to kernels, etc. I basically need a rundown on everything. I have a Samsung Captivate that I am going to root, but truthfully do not know what that will do for me.
Can someone either explain or link me to a guide that explains about Android OS and basic editing phones please
Thanks,
~Mo

very old post but if you are still interested:

As the title says, I'm looking for anyone who has the knowledge to help me in my attempt to port the CyanogenMod 3 way reboot menu to the D1 MIUI ROM.
There is a tutorial posted up at miui-dev.com: [PORT][MOD] Porting Evo 3 Way Reboot To Other Devices
But unfortunately, Bigrushdog's tutorial is riddled with incorrect line numbers and does a poor job of explaining what exactly needs to be edited for anyone that does not have a very high level of Android development knowledge. Also, the files posted on that thread have conflicting information from what his tutorial describes. And apparently, he won't, "Hold a noobs hand", as he himself has said in IRC when asked for help.
So I'm seeking a calm, patient and knowledgeable person to help me achieve a very complex mod.
I've posted this in this section since this mod can be preformed to any CM based ROM, I just happen to be asking for help to do so on the D1. If this is the wrong section for this, please fell free to move it to the correct section.
Thank you in advance to anyone who responds.
Hey XDA,
I have been around for a while, gone through two phones and have had no problems rooting, flashing ROMs, etc. thanks to all of the amazing people on the site. I have come to a point though, that I am interested in learning to port ROMs (and maybe even build a ROM from AOSP, but I am taking this one step at a time). I have looked all over the Chef Central -> Android section and the Q & A section and have been unable to find a solid guide on porting ROMs from a device with different hardware than the device you want to port to. I am sorry if this has been answered elsewhere and I try to contribute as much as I can. I hope I am not inconveniencing anyone too much. If a thread already exists that can help me out, I would greatly appreciate a link, then you can close this thread.
I am only trying to port between the ATT and internation GS3s, so it shouldn't be too hard, right?
The ROM I am trying to port is PA 2.99 beta8.
Thanks,
#TekGadgt

I will give it a go! Thanks. I had noticed this one, but was unsure if it would work between devices with different hardware. I see now that it does. I will work on that ASAP. One more question though, what do you do about devices with different resolutions? I noticed the guide is for devices with the same resolution.

Hello fellow readers,
I was just curious to know how to make a custom ROM tutorial on internet looks like there are not many guides available for beginners to know how to develop of ROMand the threads available on XDA are bit confusing and I don't know which one to follow and whether they will work for latest version of android.
This is request to all the developer and knowledgeable person on letting me know how should I start building ROM and provide a tutorial for making custom ROM valid in 2017
Hope all will help to add a new developer to XDA.
