hi, I noticed under the portal there was a way to increase ram size- here But it said it was for the galaxy y, and I checked the guide, it looked like it would work. Can anyone confirm that this would work?
Thank You!
it can be done, i did it on my G1, so i'm familiar with the process.
The problems,
Our phone is really too fast to have any noticeable effect from swap
it really screws up your sd card. (now that i think about it, that might be what killed my G1, not a broken sd reader.)
The Phone won't boot without sd card (experiences)
alright thanks, btw nice new logo
Received my S7 today. The phone is fast but very slow or delay in waking screen. Don't have the fingerprint lock screen turned on. Swipe to unlock. Even waking screen by power button is delayed. Home button to unlock is slower. Turned off double tap to camera to see if it helped but it didn't. Have Note 5, set up the same and Note 5 there isn't any delay.
Can u post screenshot of lockscreen effects?
When I had the s2/3/4 I had it ad well. Turning off the Samsung voice thingy fixed it..

slow to wake is typically an SD card issue. do you have one in? my Samsung 64 gig card in my note 4 wakes super fast, but for some reason my Samsung 128gig card wakes so slow and is super delayed. dunno why. I was hoping it was fixed in s7 so I could use that damn card again but guess not..

I have the Samsung 128gb version. Going to try removing it and see if it helps. Will get back and report.
Thanks guys. It was that new Samsung 128gb sd-card. I bought the class 10, read write speeds 80mb. Passes me off. Anyone suggest a fast card that won't slow phone down. Really bogged phone down. Thanks again, never would of thought the card was problem. Very relieved.

That's probably why Samsung decided not to use adoptive storage on the S7, it would slow down performance.

The same thing happened to me when I was using my S5 with Samsung 64GB Pro, I was so disappointed. Without the card, it's fine, but with the card inserted, there was a 0.5~0.7 sec delay when waking up.
hmmm.. I'd really love to see what other people have been observing regarding this issue.. It's a big deal for me because Samsung is only offering the S7 with 32gb for now.... for that reason I am counting on using my sd card, but this possible delay is making me wary....
Carlos
god that pisses me off! I have a 128 that's perfectly fine on my Moto X but slow as hell to wake my note.. and pissing me off that it won't work correctly with the s7 either.

I'm seeing no such lag. I have a 64gb sandisk ultra class 10 card.

anyway, yeah this makes me mad. my 128 gig is high spec samsung, so why is it slow?

Did you guys format these cards in a computer before you used them?

Thanks for reporting, guess I'll keep that same sd I already use for my tablet and use it on my phone.
Just ordered a 64gb sd-card that isn't a Samsung product. U3 class 10 very fast read/write. Hope that does the trick. Amazing how slow the 128gb Samsung card is compared to the storage on phone. My new card should be here tomorrow or day after,, will let everyone know.
Thank You, Vinny

How do I insert or remove the microSD™ card for my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge?
Under SD Card Recommendations:
microSD Card Classes
microSD cards have capacity up to 2GB.
microSDHC (High Capacity) cards offer capacity up to 32GB.
microSDXC (eXtended Capacity) cards have capacity from over 32GB and up to 2TB, currently.
Each type of card has a speed rating of 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10, from slowest to fastest.
While you can use any class of microSD card in your device, the microSDXC card is recommended for high-resolution video recording due to its large storage capacity and high-speed read/write capability.
For less demanding use, such as still photography, regular microSD or microSDHC cards will be sufficient.
Hi everybody,
I open this thread because I'm desperate. The Galaxy S7 is my 4th Android device and I had a problem of corrupted photos at least with the 3 last devices. I bought the S7 partly with the hope of say goodbye to this fuc**** problem.
But here we are, I have the S7 since a month now and it gave me already tons of corrupted photos. On my previous Xpiera devices I use various AOSP ROM and now I use King ROM on my S7 and the problem frequency still exactly the same. (I was expecting a solution by using stock based ROM.)
Speaking of the problem, here is the descption of it:
- About 1 out of 20 times (to be nice) I got corrupted photos with a varible sized grey rectangle. (See 2nd picture enclosed)
- That's new with the S7: sometimes there is no grey rectangle but a big problem of colors. (See 1st picture enclosed - I just add blue rectangles over faces)
I hope you have ideas about my problem. :fingers-crossed:
I don't understand why this problem still persists over different devices. I also already tried few microSD card.
Don't hesitate to share any idea or ask me for details if you don't understand my average English.
Thanks in advance! :good:
Pretty weird... did you try shoot with selfiestick? I guess you`ve high EM field emitted by your hands.

Hi and thanks for this (surprising) idea. I guess EM meanselectromagnetic.
I didn't have a selfiestick but I just tried to take photos with a big magnet next to my phone and all photos were ok. So EM doesn't seem to produce corrupted photos.
It's a ramdom bug, sometimes all is ok for almost few weeks and then (for example yesterday) I got 4 corrupted photos in the 15 photos I took.
There is some threads on internet where people complain about grey rectangles in there photos but nobody seems to found a solution.
I have to say that I'm a bit frustrated to pay over 500€ for a flagship smartphone and still have this kind of issues...

No I switched to Stock based Custom ROM because I just can't support Stock ROM.
It's not conceivable that I use the stock Samsung ROM daily, I prefer sell my phone than have to use this kind of heavy and no-functional ROM. I would prefer a AOSP based ROM but Samsung high end devices doesn't offer that.
Nevermind! :silly:
I sould try a stock ROM for a couple of days but no more. Maybe next weekend.

Are you using the same SD card in each device? It is possible that the card is causing the issues with the files.

This is exactly what I thought.
Try to save the photos in phone memory, not in the external SD card and see if this still give you corrupted photos. If not, then the SD card is most likely corrupt (should not be repaired with just a format. Buy a new one instead)
Had exactly the same problem of corrupted images. Even worse, my phone just crashed on the gallery app, requiring reboot with power+volume down.
Remove the sd card. The sd card is causing it, either get a good new one, or use the internal memory of the phone.
Havn't had a corrupted image/video or crash since i removed it, and in general its faster too.
I used at least 3 different sd cards in my phones.
First I used a 16GB card with no precise specifications and I don't remember if I had this problem of corrupted pictures with this card.
Then I bought a 32GB Samsung card with (in theory) a reading speed of 70MB/s and a writing speed of 20MB/s. I used this card in my 2nd and 3rd phone and I get corrupted pictures with it.
Currently I use a Lexar 64GB card with real speeds of 43MB/s in reading and 36MB/s in writing. I used this card in my 3rd and 4th (the S7) phone and obviously I get corrupted pictures with it.
Did you think that the Lexar's speeds are too low?
It's strange because I can shoot over 100 pictures in burst mode or 4k video without any problem.
Concerning internal storage, I bought the S7 in part because I want to save my datas in external storage. I want to be able to get my datas even if I crash my phone.
So I will not adopt internal saving as a solution.
You're not using an aftermarket flip case with a magnetic latch on it are you?

No I use a silicon case without magnet.
I just noticed that my Lexar 64GB card gives a reading speed of 41MB/s and a writing speed of 24MB/s when I use "A1 SD Bench" app. So my card seems slower in my phone than in my laptop benchmarck.
I don't think 24MB/s is realy too low but it is 10MB/s less than laptop benchmarck.

Of cause not, but to narrow the problem you have to know if it has something to do with ROM, camera, SD card, etc.
At least you can try! Maybe after checking the files aer ok, you can move them to SD card. That would be another test if SD card works in the device. Maybe the connection is partly broken?

the issue is most definitely with your micro sd card... And it is because micro sd cards SUCK... they can only be overwirtten a couple time before new data starts getting corrupt... i have had several become completely corrupt.

1) Remove SD Card.
2) Take a few pictures saved to internal memory.
If issue disappears, your SD Card needs replacing regardless of your past experiences.

Pictures are fine when set to internal however I have used the SDcard in another phone (ASUS Zenphone 2) and the pictures work perfectly without any issues with the same SDcard so this issue is related to Samsung.

They CAN suck. They don't ALL suck. To this day (knock on wood) I've yet to experience an issue with the cards I've used on my phones and tablets. Better luck next time, I guess.
SD Cards just don't play nicely with Samsung phones. Samsung cards are the worst offenders for causing issues in Samsung phones though, with Sandisk being the most stable I've ever used. Currently no corruption with my Sandisk SD card but the one I had before corrupted.
On a side note, when you format a card in the S8 and then put it into a HTC 10, the HTC 10 cannot read it and says it is corrupted every time.
So, Sammy did this same erroneous move on the S6 and now again on the S21, no sd card slot. I know any replies are speculative at best, but do we suppose that theyre gonna bring it back on the 22? they cited the exact same bs reason on the S6 "storage will be in the cloud" as this time. I guess my real question is anyone really missing the sd card slot and any speculations of Sammy bringing it back on the 22?
I sincerely doubt it'll come back, their most direct competitor (Apple) hasn't supported secondary storage ever so the general public doesn't seem to care.
I have an S21+ and I made sure to get one with 256 GB storage - I reviewed how much local storage I used on my S*+ SD card and "only" had about 100GB on a device with only 64GB internal storage. So, I figure 256 should be okay long term.
The only class of data I haven't pulled across from my SD card was the local photo albums, but they were only a few GB. I may yet refresh that but the days of "here look at my pics" and not having enough data network or wifi for Google Photos to function well are long behind me.
Now, the offline mapping data and offline music storage - that's the bulk of my data, and the ~ 100 GB usage leaves plenty of space left for apps and OS updates and such, for me.
If your uses include numerous large apps (e.g. games) and much more content then you'd need the 512GB variant to be safe, IMO.

I almost didn't buy my S21+ 5G because of no SD card slot.
My S9+ had the SD card slot and I miss it.
Screw samsung. No slot, no sale.
Between that and Android 11/12 and their Apple lust, the next release looks like it will be more dog meat. I'll get a used Note 10+ 512gb running on Pie, remain happy and save money.
Ain't nothing to me...
The Note 20 U is the other option but it's price for now is too high. If it doesn't have a huge square cornered display, I don't want to look at it.
The round corner displays looked horrible. Samsung will probably screw up there too.
I honestly don't miss it. I thought I would, so I opted for the 256GB model and even that still appears to be overkill at this point. I get that there are certainly use cases where it would be critical for some people, but Samsung isn't targeting those folks.

You use the SD card as a data drive.
Yes... a dual drive hand held computer.
Even my laptop is set up like this.
Only the OS, apps and downloads go on the internal memory. The data is more secure on a separate drive.
I can do a factory reset without losing data and no internet connection. No hours of reloading data.
Even my app copies are stored there, no Playstore needed.
A full reload on my stock phone takes me about 2 hours to fully restore.
Try AnyBackup, you can transfer your data to micro SD card easily, if you are a fan of Micro SD card.
you can google it for details.
SD card slots are like the optical drives in PC, IMHO. You're scared that you might need it one day, but they're obsolete already. You can easily (and better) replace them with USB-C flash drives. I've been without an optical drive on my pc for 10 years and without SD card on my phones for 3+ years (Starting with Huawei P20 Pro and now GS21+) and never have a problem. Won't go back to SD cards either as well.
I never use SD cards as data storage mainly because they're slow. Try recording a 4K video on SD card and you'll know what I mean. Unless you've got a UHS II or above class SD card, you'll have problems.
Storage space-wise, My P20 Pro is 128GB and now my GS21+ is 256 GB and I never have problem with space. If you took a lot of videos or photos, just backup your vids or photos to a USB-C flash drive and delete it from your phone periodically.

I remember those days where I flash my phone twice every week with the CyanogenMod nightlies and have to backup/ restore data every time. I did the same as you mount/ remount SD card as data partition. But those days are gone. And most of those people are too. They're not left much, becoming endangered species already. Most of the normal phone users never factory reset their phones and wipe/ restore their data every Friday. Samsung knows it. Huawei knows it. There is more performance benefit in chopping SD card off and use faster internal storage for all the read/writes.
Actually Huawei tries to save it with their home-brew Nano Memory Card but didn't succeed. Not a lot of people buying those cards. So, yeah, they listened to the market instead of a bunch of enthusiastic "power" users. We need to find our own way for our better convenience to adapt the changes.

No SD card slot, no sale... it's simply too much of a burden not to have one.

No SD card slot was a bad bet on Samsung's part. High end phones are a luxury now... they better be loaded with more than bloatware. It is their customers that define them not the other way around. Customer loyalty is a gift best not abused.
Word on the street is there will more flagship phones with SD card slots in 2022.
Either way I'm good for another 5 years.
Right it's Android that's the bottleneck... and it's in a high G flat spin. 11 is a disaster.
Q is as high as I'll go but Pie is preferable.
In five years Android like Apple may not matter to me
I miss it for a number of reasons. Granted I have a need for lots of storage as I travel quite often and I enjoy having a wide variety of movies and music at my disposal, over 300GB just in movies. So it boils down to preferences. Cloud Storage is a no go, it comes at a cost per month and it's venerable to security and privacy hacks. Transferring a large amount of data to a different device is done in seconds, not minutes or hours. For most 256GB is sufficient but after system usage is subtracted you'll have closer to 200GB left for data and apps. I held off on acquiring the S21 Ultra and lack of the SD Micro was the main reason. Samsung lowered the Internal Storage on the S21 and S21 Plus, maxed out at 256GB but prior to that you could get up to 1TB on previous S Series devices. Also forget about getting a 512GB device from a US Branded Carrier, they don't have any! I would have aquired a 128GB S21 Ultra like I did on my S10 Plus, plug in the card and I'm done, IF it had external memory. So Samsung got what they wanted, $400.00 more of my hard earned money!

So Samsung got what they wanted, $400.00 more of my hard earned money!

that's because you've got 300+ GB of movies. If you've got 1.5 TB of movies like mine, you'll give up the idea of putting all your movies in your phone. Moreover, how many of the movies have you actually watch when you're travelling?
And what you said is correct, the cloud storage is totally no-go. Unnecessarily expensive. My solution to the problem is a private cloud. A cloud enabled NAS is the solution you should look for. It's cost-effective in long term. Many of those NAS has got built-in Plex Media Server so that you can stream all the movies and music you've left at home from anywhere. Yes, data charges might incur. Plex always allow you to download some movies for offline viewing. For me, it's a good investment, especially when it's not a one-device solution. I can stream my own movies from my laptop, my smart TV, my phone, my desktop, virtually anywhere as long as it has internet access.

So... you really do need the 2 SD card slots
Cloud stuff can puke all over you at any given moment. At least it take a near EMI pulse to kill the phone otherwise even with no internet you still got some fun in your pocket.

It's not a question of how many movies I can watch, it's having the ability to watch anything I chose. Same with music however audio files are nowhere near the size as movies which are typically 1.5 to 3GB's. Your solution isn't practical for ME as many times my travel is on long haul flights, 15 hours or more where accessing the internet is costly or in some instances unavailable. So this solution is the most practical option. NAS may be a more secure cloud platform but it's still not beyond the reach of expert hackers if they ever chose to target it. Beyond that lots of users still utilize and appreciate MicroSD Storage on phones, laptops and PC's and many feel Samsung and other manufacturers dropped the feature too soon without having a more practical solution in place. Samsung and others main goal was increasing profitability, which explains why they cut back on internal storage on S21 and S21 Plus devices. To put it in prospective up until the S21 you could have your total memory up to 2TB's but now most are limited to 256GB's and a lower share at 512GB's. That's a huge difference one model later. Then on dual-sim card trays Samsung modified the template so it's now stacked to save internal space. They could have easily made one side of the tray template a bit larger to accommodate a MicroSD. So the issue isn't with saving hardware space, it's no doubt $$$. To pay around $1,400.00 USD for a massive device without a tiny MicroSD is a sin!
