Hi to everyone,
Before at all i want to say "sorry" for my bad english.
Last week my parents bought me a new surface 2. I've seen that surface 2 uses Windows 8.1 rt as pre-installed OS. I've seen also that this OS don't have a jailbreak yet, so i cant use desktop applications.
My question is: "may i downgrade the OS to the Win 8 rt by using an iso image from an other tablet " Surface RT" ?!"
Thanks u for all, and sorry for the disorder.
Yes but...
Yes you can "downgrade the OS to the Windows 8.0 rt by using an iso image" however it is not that simple. I have the image hosted on my ftp server. PM me if you want it. However just do a simple search of the surface forums to find how to deploy (install) it.
Link to a video telling you, you should have searched the fourm...

Where can I download platform builder for windows mobile 5.0?can anyone help me?
You can't.
PB for Windows Mobile (not CE!) is not available to the general public. You need to be an OEM recognized by MS to get one.
You could always try P2P networks, but its 7-9GB download and there is no guarantee some one leaked the real thing.
Does Platform Builder for Windows Mobile 5.0 contain WM2005?
What exactly are talking about?
It seems you have your terminology confused.
WM is short for Windows Mobile. 2005 was the initial name for the 5 version until MS (that stands for Microsoft) did an official release and everyone started calling it WM 5. Some still refer to it as 2005 (as in the year it was released).
Why do you want the Platform Builder any way? You can't make a new ROM with it.
If you jut want some code samples get the PB for CE or if you want to translate the interface (localize your device) just use a ROM dump.
Thank you for replying.
Need AKU and platform builder
Hi,
How are you able to get AKU and platform builder for Windows Mobile 5.0.
Thanks,
Niraj

I am interested in buying the Platform Builder if you still have. Send me how. Thank you.

Hi,
I actually have a legitimate "Windows CE 5.0 with Platform Builder". It has product keys, holograms, everything! I came across this thread when I was googling to see if it was worth my eBaying it!
If anyone is interested, I can put up an eBay auction with a reserve of maybe £50 (it cost me £250, was worth around £500 when I bought it!).
I have "Windows CE.Net [AKA "CE 4.2"] with Platform Builder" as well; again, if there is actually some interest I can eBay it and post a link to the auction. I wasn't going to bother as it didn't look like it was going to be worth the listing fee (no one seems to sell these any more, but 4.2 was easy to buy from various UK retailers at the time, and there were a few 5.0's going on eBay when I got mine).
The CE 5.0 is completely unused (project was cancelled before I even got to start on it!); I installed 4.2 a while ago to make an OS for a device I was working on, but the project was abandoned in the end. I've since canned the PC it was on. Both products are "mine".
Just to clarify in case anyone is confused, Platform Builder is a tool that one uses to make an operating system to run on a device. I would *imagine* you could make an XDA ROM with it, if you had either some support from the device manufacturer, or were very knowledgeable - I made ROMs for a couple of ARM and x86-based "PC cards", and tweaked a ROM for a PDA-like card, but I don't know if XDAs are more complicated. You'd usually want an SDK to accompany the target platform, I think, and ideally an example ROM workspace. Sorry to anyone who already knows this, and hopefully I'm not talking out of my hat WRT XDA development (I only just found out what AKU stands for, I just didn't want anyone expressing an interest who didn't know what they were getting into (Platform Builder is IMO pretty hardcore! But OTOH, pretty good fun! You get lots of the WinCE source and can poke at it if you need to!)
Wrt terminology, I *belive* "Windows Mobile 5" is an implementation of "Windows CE 5", a bit like Ubuntu is a distribution based on Debian? OTOH I wouldn't like to bet, I found all the 4.2, .Net, CE, Mobile, Pocket PC nonsense very confusing, even at the time I'd always assumed that mobile 6.1 was based on CE6.1, but apparently it is based on CE5.2, which I guess means CE6 doesn't exist, so go figure
Windows Mobile 2003 was certainly an "implementation" of CE 4.2, because Wikipedia says so.

nevermind. there is a free (120-day) evaluation here:

This is enough to build a device driver... right?

a simple no its not possible would have been fine.
he was asking a simple question that he was un-sure about.
maybe silly question to you, but he wasnt aware so it was a normal question for him to ask.
That is not a silly question; asking if your phone works better with makeup on, is a silly question ; but not this one. That is the type of questions people need to ask so they do not mess up thier phone (though this would not screw up a phone). Everyone was a n00b once. Props for asking!
Anyways, as for your question, the simple answer is no.
Basically windows moible uses .cab files, they are written in windows code (c++ usually) and are packed and installed in a way that that is used by windows. An .apk file is simular that it is a package of files, however it is writen in linux code and stored in a competly different way. It is like trying to install a Mac app on a computer with windows; just can't be done. And since the coding and how the files work are so different, it is very difficult to port a cab to android and an apk to windows mobile.

Well, someone could port the dalvik-vm to win and then maybe handle the unpacking of apks and enhancing the win dalvik...like a VMWare Player for Windows Mobile (so it is possible to run Mac on a Win PC )...
If you're bent on having a certain Android app working on your WM phone, check to see if it's supported by XDAndroid - the project for porting Android to Windows devices. By running Android on your phone you can install and use just about any application from the Android Market. Right now, the Topaz, Rhodium, Raphael and Diamond have the most support.
Hey I'm new here and I have been following the hacking forums for the Windows Surface RT, I have some questions I need to ask the dev guys but have to post 10x before I can ask on the discussion.
1. The ClassicStartMenu tool is amazing, but seems to be stuck on the old looking Windows 98 menu style (After uninstalling and reinstalling, I cannot switch to the Windows XP or the Windows 7 style. Thank you so much for the program and help.
2. Quake is badass on a Surface, the original version plays flawlessly, but I cannot run Quake 2, says there are missing files.
3. CrystalBoy emulator is completely not working, it cannot load any roms, just has a red X across the screen.
Well that's all I'm needing help on thus far, keep up the great work you guy,s even if these problems cannot be fixed I am a huge fan.

You can have a look at the forum of windows rt developing and hacking, there are some updates by windowsrt.
Hi all,
I'm a noob, but am hoping for tolerance of my ignorance and help.
I recently bought an asus vivotab rt for school. I didn't even think that my ebooks for my courses wouldn't open (I was unaware of the flash whitelist).
What I'd like to do is jailbreak or apply a hack that would allow me to open/download my ebook from quia.com to my asus. I've tried one of the hacks I found here to modify the whitelist and allow my ebook to open. It did not work...I got the same redirect, saying I had to upgrade flash and to go to macromedia to do so. I swear I have searched this forum for answers, but I'm unsure as to whether I need something specific or just a jailbreak.
Thanks for your time and tolerance
[EDIT] I've just retried the hack from this thread...[HACK] Flash on Any Website in IE10 Metro Browser [WIN 8 & WIN RT]... and it worked! I applaud the person who created this.
Hey guys,
I'm looking for a Windows 8.0 RT recovery image for my 1st gen Surface RT. Its a German device. I guess downgrading is the only way to get recompiled software to work, am I right? Thats the reason why I wanna downgrade.
Thanks in advice

I assume you want Surface RT 8.0 Euro.zip but that is sadly the only one I don't have a link for.
I did find it archived here on Archive.org: https://web.archive.org/web/2013102...soft.com/fr-fr/download/details.aspx?id=40810
