Hi guys.
I just read Chainfire's post on obtaining root on Lollipop
https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/VxjfYJnZAXP
I didn't understand it all, but I think I got the message that it will be hard to obtain root without a modified kernel.
Kernels can't be modified on a device with a locked bootloader.
Does this mean that Bump! (tm) will save our ass with future LP roms?
I tell you what man.. honestly..
every time anything new comes out.. games.. software.. anything..
people say for awhile "they might have beat us this time"
someone always finds a way

Hello and welcome to XDA...
First, I recommend reading the stickies posted in the forum and learning as much as you can about the inner-workings of the community... from there, things get easier.
Points of advice...
- Flashing Roms and Kernels can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be... meaning, if you search the forum well and learn what you're doing, it becomes as simple as ever...
- Never flash anything without making a nandroid backup first... if you don't know what that means, use the search function for XDA and lookup "nandroid"
Lastly,
Most people are going to recommend you flash yourself Cyanogenmod 7. The latest stable build is RC1 and can be found here and other "usual places".
Once you flash CM7 (a "rom") then you can flash a Kernel if you want... I'd be willing to put my neck out and say that faux has the most reliable and most popular Kernel out right now in conjunction with CM7...
The best thing you can do for yourself is read... take the time to read as much as you can and answer your own questions slowly over time... there is no reason to go flashing away until you fully understand what it is that you are doing.
Hope that gets you started in the right direction... good luck and have fun!
Ok soo I am thinking about rooting my Sony Ericsson and I wanted too know if it's worth it or not.. I know there are alot of great apps that you can get.. but I heard that you can get free 3g when you root you're device, is this true? and also I wanna know if I shouldn't root my phone and just not take the risk..
I also have a problem with the phone typing by itself sometimes and I have to restart it a few times and it quits and goes back to normal.. any help on this?

lol.. u won't get free 3g after rooting..someone trolled you!!
rooting will void ur software warranty of phone!
But it has it's own advantages, u could use custom rom and save battery, RAM through tweaks!
you could get hardware acceleration via Cyanogenmod and play certain games which are not compatible with ur phone!
Find ur device forum for more details! Just use search bar on the top right corner!
as for ur problem, dust and moisture can cause this..remove screen protector and wipe the screen and apply new protector
if problem persists, show it to service if u are under warranty!
My advice is always the same.
Find a reason to root your device before just doing it.
A custom recovery can be nice, but do you really need one ?
Custom ROMs can be nice, but do you want to take the risks they come with ? Just scroll through these forums and see all the posts about people who have bricked their devices - even people who had good experience and knew what they were doing. Sometimes things go wrong - are you willing to pay to have your device repaired if you brick it ?
Rooting alone opens you up to some security risks - so there's really no point in rooting unless you have a plan about what you want to do with it and understand the risks and what you can do to make sure you don't do something bad.
Yeah, these things can do some cool stuff - and if you would like it it can be worth it. But if you don't really care, it's not.
Do some research. Decide what you want to do.
I rooted my Desire for two reasons: 1 To upgrade to ICS
2 To run many apps without
filling up my internal memory. I'm really happy with the result and
if i find support for Android 5.0 in the future i'll go for it.
If you use it as a phone only don't risk it.
I have another question.. If I root my phone.. will I get the latest updates? Cause my phone only has 2.3.3 and I see alot of people will 4.0 and I was wondering if I do root it .. is it possible to get 4.0 or greater than 2.3.3?
and thanks for helping me

Okay, there are two kinds of "updates". You can still get OTA carrier updates with root only, but you may lose root in doing so.
Then there are custom ROMs. I have no idea if an ICS ROM is available for your phone - Google it or search the forum and see. Beware that these typically do not work 100% perfectly. If there is a custom ROM depends in if someone put the time into making it or not.

If you root your phone you won't have to worry about updates from your carrier, nor will you want it. All you will do is keep up with the thread of the ROM of your choice and see if the developer has updated the ROM. As far as getting a certain version of Android for your phone it's all entirely on the phone you have. Look around for a forum for your specific device and check their development section to see what ROMs they have available for you.
Hi everyone,
Uhm, i'm not experienced with this stuff, but i wanted to ask, because i saw lots of ways but i still don't know what to try.
What's the best, i mean, safest way to root an One S? I really hate this Sense 4 and those tards from HTC said that "We cannot update it to Sense 5" and stuff (i had a long talk with them). I heard that rooting isn't working all the time, and you can get your device "Bricked" or sort of, so i really wanted to ask if there's a super-safe way or something like that.
And yes, back to my question, i actually have a Mac, so i wanted to know if there's a way to do it on Mac, and where i can find 'super-detailed' explanation of root-ing it. Any help appreciated.
P.S: If there's already a thread of this, please put the link below, thanks again.

Im not sure how to do it on mac as i am on windows 8.1 but all you need to do is flash twrp recovery, download this, place it on your storage and flash it through recovery
Thanks
Thanks, uhm, i want to get CyanogenMod on my One S. Is it stable? Or there still are major glitches? Oh, and uhm, what actually do i do with this SuperSU? Doesn't it needs root to work?
Hey, guys. I have had rooted gt-9105p for quite a while.
Finaly decided to put on CM11. Noticed that I need to have unlocked bootloader and have it 4.2.2 version. I dont realy know what that is or where can I find it, or how to update/unlock it.
I take it that I probobly have old bootloader. Because other than root I havent done anything to my phone.
And could I have even rooted, if my bootloader was locked?
Would apriciate, if someone could help me with the complite newb tut or help trought skype or anything else. (I can download anything as long as it gets me where I want to be)
Is there anything else I should do before putting CM11?
I dont realy understand anything besides rooting. So would be cool to have someone te explain me karnel, bootloader, roms and stuff. I know that there are all kinda infos. But they just explain one by one thing. They dont actualy tell how those things are conected. Like CM11 has its own karnel but you are supposed to be able to change it by it selfe anyway and stuff.. Like what the hell.
I realy want to learn more about android devices because I want to become an android developer aswell. But other than root i dont realy understand anything. Its not like im complite newb to tech stuff. But its just that i get one problem, then i try to find info about it. I find alot of things that just confuse me even more to the point where I dont understand anything anymore..
So yeah. Please help me with bootloading and other android related stuff. I found that thread where was huge colection with tutorials from newbie to dev levels. And one of first ones was the rom change. But it was for stock to stock rom change. But if i change rom, I would rather change it to CM11 or something that I will actualy use not just like that.
Anyhow, thanks for your time.
Hope someone will be willing to help me.

Thats the thing. I dont know where I can find it.
So I dont know which version it is or is it or isnt locked.
Don't worry, u have open bootloader. I think, there isn't any s2 plus phone with unlocked bootloader.

At first hi to all of you , you might know me I made twrp and the first root and patched stuff to be able to run AOSP , so but lately I came to the conclusion that the g7 is just not a good device for devs , so I unrooted installed stock and relocked my boot loader.
From this point of time any given support for the device by me will be ended and never picked up again.
Im sry but if u like the device and want rom etc you need to do it yourself now

Hi, so sad to read this, but thanks for your great work. Can i ask you why you stop with this awesome phone? What is the main problem?
Sorry to hear those news, J0SH1X. Same question as kimo9hero, what did lead to the decision of yours? (If you allow us asking
@J0SH1X thanks for all your work, but I think we're naive if we consider any recent LG phone "developer friendly" since all their latest models were lacking support even from the company (very late updates).
Guys there is hope that we'll see modding and roms for our g7?
I don't think so, without at least one enthusiastic dev it's not possible. There are no resources so any potential dev have to figure everything out by himself, constantly risking to brick an expensive device. Luckily, the stock 10f rom works real well and the hardware is superb. One just risk living without some typical root utilities.
I would be happy for some dev picking it up, but I don't count on it.

I totally understand that decision. Read following thread where some problems are mentioned.
