I've recently acquired a Shield (Wi-Fi only edition) and have realized, to my horror, that a select few apps won't work properly across firmware updates or even factory resets.
Tapatalk: It immediately closed after I logged in... Apparently only the "main" activity is affected, because I can sneak sideways into forums by opening them via the web or a widget. But having no home screen is really annoying.
Dolphin: the browser seems to render pages, including asking for location information, but that's it. Every page is nothing but a white screen.

Are you running ART?
Can you uninstall Tapatalk (delete app cache and data) then reinstall.
I'm using Tapatalk Pro right now without any issues between OTA updates.

That was actually my first thought, maybe somehow I'd done that... But no. I've uninstalled, cleared data, factory reset my tablet, the whole nine yards.
Yep, this is the version of Tapatalk I installed. I guess it's still called Pro in the URL.

Update Tapatalk to the latest from playstore, now works with shield tablet! ?

Bing, News, Amazon Kindle are a few apps which launch for one second and then quit. Even mail and people tiles do not update any longer and live tiles stop working. I have uninstalled these apps and reinstalled them where they begin to work again for a bit and then start playing up again. I have refreshed pc and still same problems. Also in Notifications tab in PC Settings, where it says Show notifications from these apps, there is nothing listed. They were listed after a refresh and no longer there.
I have all the latest updates installed and I think that is where the problem is. I bet one update is causing the problems. I feel like refreshing again and not installing any kb updates or firmware updates. Really really frustrated.
Any ideas? Solutions? Magic words?
Sounds awful. Do you have a stable WiFi connection? I have noticed that the Surface wants good connection or she gets weird. Surfing the web ok? Don't have to tap links multiple times to go anyware?

Have you contacted Microsoft or Amazon about those apps? Maybe it's the HW and you need to exchange? Unless you want to wipe everything as a last resort use alternative apps until that's sorted or the web browser. For news I would use this aggregator called news republic instead of the default app because it's faster at loading up, playing videos, and opening up articles. I don't use Bing, people, mail, or amazon kindle. Don't think there's anything that gets you live tiles n does everything those programs do. So it seems nothing you can really do.
Their is a Microsoft fixit for windows store apps not launching, a simple search will find it. If it tells you that it found corrupted files then a complete reset is in order. Also if you have done any of the tweaks, some of them can cause instability. If you have then retroactively undo the tweaks until you find the cause.
Ok I solved the problem. A simple refresh of the pc was not enough as it does not delete your apps or databases. I there chose to remove everything and reinstall the os which DOES delete the apps and data. This solved the crashing apps and non syncing mail/dead live tiles. I guess due to some corrupt data for the apps.
I am full stocked and N8013 running latest firmware.
I use stock browser and now it start crashing suddenly. Idk what to do. Any idea ?

Try clearing the cache. Settings > Privacy and security > Clear cache
Or clear data and cache from settings, applications

Funny you should say this. My stock rooted rom has started doing the same over the last couple of days on my gt-8020.

Me too
The stock browser on my GT-N8020 keeps exiting and I have restart it. Irritating.
Possible link to issue.
I've noticed sluggish behavior and even crashes with the stock browser on my stock Note GT-N8013 after the last firmware update. But what I've noticed causes my issues is the Twitter app. I've been able to replicate this too. Simply opening the Twitter app or opening a link within the app will cause the browser to be slow, close, or crash. However if access Twitter using the web, I don't have any of those issues. I don't know if the Twitter app is the actual culprit or if it's some other underlying issue, but for me avoiding the Twitter app has worked.
Same. Stock browser has started to crashe several times a day. n8000/4.1.2
For example: if i go to the site android. com and browse devices there, the browser jams and i get a message to close the application or wait. On some other pages the browser just disappears, screen goes black for a sec and i get the homescreen..

got the new update to xxcmf1 but it didnt fix these crashing problems.
1) android.com -> browse devices => stock browser freezes totally. to get the browser works again i have to close the browser and end the application from memory
2) stock browser shutts off several times a day now more than before that new update and it gives no message. when opening the browser again, it opens the windows which were open before crashing.
this is becoming annoying...

I can't install apps using the website for Play Store. It lists two devices for my phone, one with an unknown last used date and the other from months ago. I know I have multiple listings due to ROMs, had cleaned a lot out.
Google Services seems to be fine, the 'locate device' and ring works.
SCH-i535
LiquidSmooth v2.7
Any ideas on how to fix, or how to reset the relationship between the store and device?
Is the app compatible with the device?
Is the device connected to your Google account?
Sorry for the dumb questions

Yes, and occurs for any app.
I don't get an error or any sign that there is something wrong other than I don't get the status bar icon show up and start downloading.
Yes. However there is a relationship issue. Bringing up "my apps" on the website gives a much different listing (old apps that were uninstalled) that what is installed and what is listed through the play app.
Also rooted and boot unlocked if not obvious by the ROM.

My best suggestion is to clear data and cache for the play store app in settings

Got it working.
Clearing the cache and data didn't do it, and thankfully didn't seem to even affect it (accounts and settings were all the same when I opened it back up).
I went back into the website's devices section and to settings. For some reason the actual device wasn't checked to show in the app lists; what I thought was a current was from an old flash.
Checked it show be visible, and got rid of the others. All is fine now, and explains why device locate worked as well. Although I don't know why an old phone that does work does't show in the list for locate but does for apps; hasn't been on in just over a year so google might have a timeout for something like that.
marked your first post with a thanks for the promptness and trying.

Hey everyone,
I've had my Nexus 5 since its initial release on CyanogenMod or various other stable ROMs. Anyways just today I began seeing these small, but obnoxious ads in-app. I don't download random apps, click on random bs links, or visit/browse through shady websites.
The ads are a wide rectangle near the top of the screen. There's a little x at the top left and an 'opt out' on the bottom right. It leads to a web page that essentially wants you to submit your IMEI, device ID and other information...or download/install an apk to "automatically" opt out of the ads.
I installed a few different antivirus/security apps to no avail of isolating any sort of virus/malware. I then ran the optout.apk through said antivirus apps and it came clean. So against my better judgement I installed the app and opted out, then deleted the application as instructed.
The ads still populate over my screen while using most apps - Google Play, Candy Crush, Whatsapp, Facebook, Snapchat, etc.
I've had Android devices dating back to the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant and I have not come across anything like this.
*Anyone else having this issue or know anything about it?*
P.S. While writing this post, I tried to include a screen shot but of course now the ads aren't showing themselves. I'll update the post when it inevitably returns.
Thank you all for your attention.
Sounds dodgy mate, I recommend you clean wipe and flash with no app backups restored.
I too had this. i wiped my phone clean, everything. then installed new rom and started afresh. i tried alsorts too but it became a joke.

My friends this happens having installed some apps related to wallpaper and backgrounds ... you maybe installed "aquarium 3d" or "backgrounds premiumHD" of "Pixign"? still come this way ...
What above comment says is true. There are some apps on the Play Store that enforce random ads around your daily usage.
I would recommend clean flashing, using AdAway(you can find on Google) and lastly, keep a close eye on what happens after each app is installed.

Only type of wallpaper app I had was "Premium Wallpaper HD." Looking at its reviews this app is the cause of these popups! . Obviously got rid of it but I will continue to assess the situation in case there are any other apps causing issues. Thank you!

Turned out "Premium Wallpaper HD" was causing this mayhem. I've deleted all traces of this app and will continue to monitor the situation. I'll clean flash a new ROM over the weekend, just in case. Also installed AdAway for any further issues. Appreciate the help. :good:
Hi everyone
Need some advice please, my phone (HUAWEI MATE 9, Android 9, Stock) has recently become the victim of some nasty browser hijacking / malware, where whenever i browse or just use my phone in general, the browser would open and random redirects to ad sites would occur.
At first i thought it was just Chrome, then i disabled it and downloaded FireFox, but the issue still occurs.
It also randomly happens with general usage, one moment you will be browsing your photo gallery, the next the browser launches and re-directs you to one of these ad sites, and is incredibly annoying.
I have not downloaded any dodgy apps or installed from apk's.
Things i have tried
- Ran Malwarebytes Scan = No issues found.
- Cleared Browsing history and cookies for Chrome.
- Installed a completely different browser.
- Disabled personalized Ads setting within my Google Account.
Any help advice to remove this will greatly appreciated, my phone is however not rooted and running stock firmware, and don't really want to resort to a factory reset.
Thanks in advance

Boot the device into safe mode and use it for a while in safe to see if the issue still occurs. If it does not have the issue while using safe mode, the issue is being caused by something that you installed. If it still continues to have the issue while using safe mode, the issue is being caused by something that was factory installed.
