I have been tweaking and testing different programs, radios etc and I am now extremely happy with my TP performance. Thanks to everyone on the board that has helped on my quest for the ultimate device!

Hey Matt,
please post your tweaks and programs to help US out too!
thanks!
Do yourself a favor, and BACK UP everything on your phone, so if you have to hard reset, you won't have to spend another 7 months tweaking everything back the way you had it.
When I installed the "test rom", after 12 hours of getting it all the way I wanted, I screwed around with the TP2 TF3D and didn't like it, hard reset, then restored everything back the way it was in less than 1/2 hour.

Congrats, after 4 months, 4 custom roms, on 3 TP's im finally happy and bug free with everything i want (except the damn galarm/s2u2 bug).
What are you running?
Everything is backed up and clean
I am running
ROM 1.90.161.5 WWE
Radio 1.02.25.28
Advanced Config
S2U2
SPB Time
SKSchema which I have programed to check my email every hour. Stock client never worked. And also soft reset every night to keep it fresh
TomTom7
GPS Test
Resco File Explorer and Reg Edit
Torch Button
AEB Plus
I am running the GPS tweaks cab which deletes the GPS log and turns off agps. I get a lock on tomtom in about 10 secs stationary and 30 secs moving
Also turned off face down mute as it really annoyed me.
Data connection terminates after 30 secs of inactivity
I imported some smart touch reg keys so I can use the scroll wheel for phone, contacts, programs etc...
Applied all the power settings in advance config
a couple of other minor tweaks which dont affect performance but make it easier for me.
And thats about it.
Matt
I would suggest so many more apps, but i dont want to mess up the good thing you have going.
Id drop touch button and get Htorch.....for sure

What is the galarm/s2u2 bug you speak of? I use both and haven't experienced any issues...

Good for you! At least someone is happy with their TP.
I bought my in August last year and I was quite thrilled the first 2-3 weeks. But then it only got frustrating... I'm trying to avoid any custom ROMs and radios (I'm not too skilled in flashing + I'd like to keep the warranty) so I only experimented with tweaks and appls. Although in my opinion the device should work fine with the ROM provided by the manufacturer, eh?
Anyway, I'm so frustrated with this piece of c**p - I had to send it back for repair twice already. Now I'm actually hoping that two more faults will occur so I could claim my money back.
Just some of the issues I've been having since I bought it:
- TF3D freezes a couple of times a day
- ringer delay (even with the WM default dialer)
- emails are not coming in (even though I set the client to check them every 2 hours)
- GPS is a disaster! (100-200m lag, fix takes a long time even with QuickGPS and clear sky)
- sound occasionaly not working during alarms (making it very unreliable)
- generally very slow performance of the device (especially TF3D is laggy as hell)
- ActiveSync (with Outlook) stops working without any apparent reason (no changes were made neither on the computer nor on TP)
- and many many more...
I just wondered if your tweaks were able to fix some of those mentioned above? Although I have already decided to get rid of TP as soon as possible I can give it another chance...
Anyway, I hope you will enjoy your TP for a long time ;-)

Torch button does exactly what i want, turns on and off with one button press. Re-maped to my left softkey, Perfect.
I had loads of other apps but they were point;ess for me. I have everythig i need. I went through a stage of having loads of apps. But never used them. I prefer the minimal faster TP that works

Hi Ferus, with regards to TF3D, i ditched it, it wasd useless. I much prefer S2U2 and the default WM today screen
E-mails is where i had the most trouble. I use skschema to check my mail every hour. Works perfectly. I spent ages trying to find a fix. the script is #r(/windows/tmail.exe) #p(-service"youraccountname" -sync) just replace your account name with the exact name of your email account for example mine is "Yahoo!" Now this only works if the device is not locked using the built in locking as it brings the mail app to the foreground. works perfectly with s2u2 though.
Flashing my radio to the one above helped loads with GPS, also applying the gps tweaks cab really makes a difference.
Alarms was a problem i had with all my wm phones. This is now overcome using spb time. never had a missed alarm. sound also goes off if phone is silent
I dont have a problem with performance. I reccomend getting rid of TF3D.
I havent hadf any problems with Activ sync so cant help im afraid.

Ferrus,
Relating to the 'freezes several times a day', i used to get that, albiet, freezing once every 4 days when i received a text. After flashing to the latest HTC ROM (updated version) over a month ago, i haven't had a crash since.
M
ferus:
I know you said you didn't want to flash a different ROM, but if you can wait a little longer hopefully AT&T will release their update for us.
There is a leaked test ROM upgrade here that fixes TONS of bugs, greatly speeds up the device, AND make GPS better (fast fixes with working aGPS...if you have data). The lag is still there, but not as bad as it was in the beginning.
The new radio in that ROM is leaps and bounds better than the stock radio.
If you need any warranty work done, you'll probably have to flash back to the stock ROM...unless they release the final version of this test one before then.

I had similar experiences until I used cooked roms. If you want a good stable rom I would try Might Mike's, or Juicy's... I had similar issues to most of your and they were all solved with a fresh rom. TF3D is zippy and sweet and I have pretty much solved them.
As far as the GPS... that was solved by updating to the 1.11 sprint radio. I lock on in less than 20 secs every time now. Not sure that will work for the ATT. Not sure if ATT is CDMA. I am sure there are some ATT compatible ones that would also solve your issues.
Thanks for all the answers and tips The whole weekend I was struggling with my TP and finally I decided to go through with a ROM flash.
Someone suggested some ROMs already but I was wondering if you can recommend me a stable, quick and responsive (kind of a the-less-apps-the-better kind of ROM)?
I'm about to browse through the ROM forum but I'm afraid it contains TOO MUCH information. So I would appreciate any suggestions.
I use my TP as a normal PDA user (phone, email, internet, GPS, IM are the most used features).
Thanks in advance, I hope I can finally get a decent PDA ;-)

Hi.
Mind sharing how can I get the above cab?
I own a Samsung Fascinate and I have been flashing customs for a few months now. I've tried 5 or 6 different combinations and every time I flash to something other than stock, i have weird occurrences. For instance, right now I am running super clean 2.9.2 eb01 w/ voodoo and crysis theme for eb01. I flashed it yesterday and when I flashed it, I tested all of the features (text in/out, web, calls in/out, camera, bluetooth etc.) and everything worked fine. This morning I woke up to a couple of missed calls and usually I wake up with text messages from different people too, but I had none whatsoever. Also, when I flashed it yesterday, I had a 3G symbol for my web and a stable connection. I wake up this morning and the 3G has turned into a "1x" (whatever that means) and the mobile data connection seems slower than ever. In fact it is slow. I play a cool MMORPG built for androids called Pocket Legends and when I logged in this morning my ping was extremely higher than usual. The only thing that I am completely worried about are texts/calls not coming in and my mobile data connection being slow. And this same thing has happened with a few other roms/kernels I've used. The weird thing is that as soon as I flash back to stock, all the features work fine again.
My main questions are, when I first flash something, why does everything work properly for a while after I first load it, but then a few days down the road I start having problems? Is that even possible? Can a custom rom/kernel/theme change your phone whenever it wants to? I know alot of customs are unstable and usually the OP lists what's working and not working, so I've made careful choices with the ones I've picked. This has happened with all of the customs I've had for eclair and even froyo. But why do they only work properly for like a day and then all of a sudden take a sh*t on me?
*EDIT* By the way, my phone is not being used on Verizon. I have it flashed to Cricket. Would this have anything to do with it?
Whenever i say that new smart phones aren't really phones, but actually entertainment devices that make calls, everyone nods and agrees. But what if there was a way to reverse that so they only made calls and pretty much nothing else? I'm looking to find a "safe mode", in which lots of services and drivers aren't even loaded.. ever. A good example of its use would be when i needed to drive 4 hours away for a funeral. I had no need for twitter and angry birds, I just needed to freely communicate with relatives. Another example is being stranded on the highway cause of dead car battery. Most Evo users would be clinging to dear battery life. Sometimes we want to be saturated with features, and other times we would be just fine with a classic green screen phone that only needs a weekly charge.
Would it be possible to dual boot into a very minimalist rom? If i knew my phone had a mode for emergencies, i wouldn't be searching every inch of the web for juice saving tips. Is this possible? If so, which rom would accomplish this? Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Evo 4G [rooted] Sprint 2.3.3(stock Sense, came preinstalled) Freedom-Aggressive kernel 0.8.5 hardware v.4
I have an option on my DroidX and it might work for you. I think it is generic for Android phones.
From the dialer do *#*#4636#*#* and go into the phone menu and you can change the network or disable the data connection altogether. On my phone it makes and receives phone calls and text messages but nothing else.
There is sometimes a delay when I make a change, a few seconds, so be patient.
I have a feeling you could do some damage in this menu so make a note of anything you change.
Since you are rooted, you could also install Droidwall or something similar and be very selective about what applications you allow to have a data connection.
You can theoretically create a custom CM7 or AOSP ROM with only the essentials- the phone.apk, contacts.apk, mms.apk, settings, and their corresponding supporting files/ framework.
Mind you, the screen would still be the biggest battery drain. And there comes a question of dual booting (which should be possible in my phone at least, with Magldr...).

Issue Summary (updated regularly when issues arise) [UPDATES Shown in this style]
* Issue 1: Windows Phone connector for Mac crashes when trying to sync.
* More information & reading HERE
* Temporary workaround (taken from above thread):
From timmymarsh:
- When device connected, quickly hit cancel sync before wp app crashes.
- Go into settings, UNCHECK Auto-sync.
- Next time connect device, app should not crash.
From MS: (in response to my workaround)
If you want to turn off the "sync automatically" setting, you can do it outside the app, no need for quick reflexes/slow computer:
- In Finder, pres cmd-shift-G
- Type the following path into the dialog: ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Windows-Phone-7-Connector/Data/Library/Application Support/Windows Phone/Devices
- You should see a single folder with a bunch of characters representing your phone, open that folder
- Edit the file named "Sync Configuration.xml"
- Change the value after Setting/Sync On Connect from <integer>1</integer> to <integer>0</integer>

Let's list up our findings, to see if it's only a local bug, or if many others have the same issues.
Had my 8x for aprox 3 weeks now, I am mostly very pleased with both aesthetics and performance.
But have seen some random "bugs":
-Random reboots (already mentioned and have a fix coming)
-Sometimes, in apps, the screen is not responding to touch, seen it happen in various apps, but mostly in Wimp. Needs reboot to function properly again)
-Sound becomes distorted from time to time, happened once using headset, and sometimes with notifications/incoming calls.
-"lag" in notifications, in.ex when a ringtone starts (when device in sleep mode) it's noticeable that the ringtone don't start from beginning, it kinda hangs a bit then starts half a sec/a sec into the ringtone/notification sound.
Not sure if it's my device or if others experience the same things

I've nearly the same problems with my device (8X, FW 1532.20.10005.111, HWrevisionnumber: 0002, Chip-SOC-Version: 8260A).
- 3 times a reboot
- sometimes in apps no screen responding (i think it's caused from the app's)
-> reboot manually
- sound becomes disorted when using navigon ( navigon bug ?), built in music player works fine, sometimes sound in video player is asynchronous, sometimes not (same movie file)
- when i use navigon and bluetooth in my car, battery drains out allthoug i'm charging (5V, 1000m/Ah), so i'm not able to use it for more then 3-4 hours !!! Phone is then really hot and battery empty.
I read that lumia 920 users have the same problem.
- Battery drains too fast, 12 to 16 hours by normal usage
- my provider data volume (200 MB) is sufficient for max. of 3 days (no tool to control network traffic, because t-mobile WP8 without built in data sence)
For users with battery problems, Coolknight1968 wrote a "how to" to become a better battery performance. You can read it, following the link in post#4 in this thread:

The only bug I suffer from is the reboot, but this mostly occures when I have a WP7.5 app tombstoned in the background.
Battery life averages between 20 hours - 1,5 day depening on use. Seems good enough, I have very little drain in standby. Battery does drain fast when using games or the screen a lot, but this is normal.
No audio bugs either.
No lag or responsiveness issues.

ITJE, you beat me to this thread. I was going to post a thread with a list of issues (regularly updated) with a space to list workarounds and answers.
Hope you dont mind, i have created a summary post above yours, which can be updated for ease of reference (as it was such a good idea lol)
If you want, i can transfer ownership to you (you know the magic lol)
I never had the reboot issue but that's probably because I read that Skype was causing the problem so I just left it uninstalled.
I don't have the distorted sound issue under any circumstance.
I use Windows and Linux and therefore have not experienced the Mac problem (despite owning a Mac)
I have noticed something else... I cannot send the following message: *in
If there is a space before the asterisk, then there's no problem. If either or both of the letters is capitalized, there's no problem. asterisk-i-n will not send from my phone.
Anybody else getting this?
found another bug...
when i connect my 8X to my Computer and connect it to Visual Studio for Debugging it seems that the telephone Features hangs after a while... i don't receive SMS nor calls... only a restart can solve the Problem...
happens to the 3rd time today...
really annoying
EDIT:
It seems it doesn't Need to be connected to the PC.
Everything in the whole OS seems Buggy.
The first time i used my phone it was the same way, after a few hardresets (because it was the same time the Live-Services had Errors) it seemed that it works nice now...
i don't know what error this could be...
1. I too have had the reboot problem (where the phone randomly reboots itself).
2. I have also had the phone freeze where I had to hold the power button to reboot, as the phone was unresponsive.
3. When making a call, one time the phone wouldn't go to speakerphone, nor could I hear the person on the other end. Everything else worked fine. A reboot fixed the problem.
edit:
4. The phone has randomly said "invalid or missing sim card" twice now. A reboot fixed it both times, but annoying. Anyone else have this? Not sure if its the sim or the phone.
Not sure if it's a "bug" to others, but in group messages, i reply to the group, but I also get the reply. How the hell is that fixed?

I have noticed that if I go a while (a few days or so) without a reboot, then my phone stops receiving texts and calls. A simple toggle of the radio from one protocol to another (i.e. 4G to 2G and back) will rectify things. I'll get a flood of backlogged messages.
After updating to the new (officially not released yet) OS 8.0.10211.204 I have not had issues with sound or reboots (yet?)
Seen some issues in apps esp. on resume (mostly/only(?) Wimp, but I believe that's app related)
I am happy with my 8x, it's, for me, one of the better devices I have had :good:
And when spotify (very missed) becomes available for WP8, I will be very happy
I am on 8X number 3 now as I cant stand the reboot issue and first 2 had it.
With all 3 phones though I have noticed that a lot of the old power Hungary games tend to crash a lot - prime on is PES that crashes on the second game of a session without fail and sometimes first. Also IloMilo sometimes bombs. I know this is an app thing and I know lumia 920 owners are having same issues with same apps its quite annoying as all work flawlessly on WP7 handsets (at least HD7, Mozart and Lumia 800).
Also first 2 handsets had issues with casing coming away from the screen though the new one looks and feels spot on. (first 2 where blue handsets new one is yellow so dunno if it was just a batch issue as I know the yellows came into store later
Other than that its a great device with only downside being the lack of SD (this will bug me until I upgrade) The sound quality rocks.I have found myself with my earphones in whilst at home with my stereo waiting to please me.
Post 1 updated.
Hi guys.
Please only report bugs if you have updated your device to the new OTA 8.0.10211.204 released by MS & carriers today.
If you havent updated yet, then it would be wise to do this as the new release will probably address the above, thanks.
No Sound
This has only happend about 3- 4 times. I have the volume up and set to ring. But watching videos, sounds(typing, lock/unlock, etc), calls, etc there's will be no sound. I try lowering the volume and raising it, checked setting, etc but nothing makes the sound come back until I reboot the device. Anyone else have this?

no, only distorted sound on that os, you not got the ota update yet? Its coming.
Hi
Have my 8X since a few days, the day before the OTA update actually, but I still have a problem :
The speakerphone is working perfectly fine when playing music or video but when I'm calling someone, putting him on speakerphone makes the sound horrible to the point that I can't understand what the other one is saying. I don't use speakerphone that often, so if you could just give it a try calling your voicemail, maybe I'm not the only one with this.
Not don't have it yet will update once I do and is if it ever happens again.

probably not a bug but annoying: since the update msn toggles online/offline with the screen; people think i'm unavailable on msn (yes i still use msn )
Recently purchased and have been liking the tablet besides it's internet performance. I immedietly updated the tablet to lollipop out of the box so I was not able to test it's network on kitkat.
Since using the tablet I've noticed a variety of issues:
1. Opening webpages in chrome is substantially slower than on my phone (htc one m8 running fairly stock sense rom), with longer load times and occasional hangs on page loads that require a refresh to complete.
2. When using either reddit is fun golden or reddit news pro, subreddits take longer to load than on the M8 as well.
3. Slow Google play downloads. I'm not sure if this is just a Play store being slow or truly an issue with my device. Occasionally if i have multiple downloads or updates qeued it will finish one and just sit on trying to start the next one without actually doing it.
I have been having these issues on two different home networks with different routers, different ISPs, and different cities. Interestingly though, when running the Speed Test app, the tablet does better than the M8 and comes back testing perfectly fine.
Any suggestions as to what i can do to get to the bottom of this? Any diagnostic test I can do? Any setting? Has anyone else been having these issues and is this just an issue with the lollipop update?
Thank you in advance!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think any OTA update is a "dirty flash". I also was having many issues that included complete freezing up of the tablet. You having updated out of the box could be different (I had a bunch of apps installed when I updated), but I think most of my issues were solved with a factory reset. ??
I'm sure its a software issue as at school I get 40mb which is alot than my nexus 7, 10mb
