hi every one,
My surface RT hang on surface logo and don't boot to windows
there is no Microsoft store near my town to send it to them
what can I do for it?
Have you held down the power button for a very long time?
The flash memory is broken. If you are under warranty, they will replace the unit no questions asked.
The same happened to me.

Greetings,
A few weeks ago I tragically dropped my Xoom on pavement. I found that the Motorola case that is designed for the Xoom is utter crap as not only did it fail to protect the Xoom from impact but flew open during the fall scratching the device. I decided to be a geek about it and repair the cracked digitizer myself.
After going through a long learning process I have it back to looking and nearly working as before the crash. However, I cannot hard press! If I press and hold on an icon (to move it) it does not recognize this input and launches the program instead. This leaves me unable to manage icons, interact with the home screen, and properly interact with the device.
Has anyone seen this problem before? I have contacted the digitizer vendor which listed the item as OEM but it seems like a firmware/software problem because otherwise the digitizer works.
Thanks!
Sounds like some sort of calibration issue, maybe there is a secret code in dialer for screen calibration.

Where did you get the screen from?
Just curious if anyone else has noticed this... My device is almost exactly 1 week old. (I've been using it quite a bit for work)
Yesterday, I was playing a movie (using the DisplayPort) to my TV. The unit ran, plugged in, running Netflix for a total of 2 hours... Movie played fine, finished up, disconnected, etc...
Later on that day, I was using the Surface and noticed a yellow burn mark. It's a line along the right edge of the display on the surface. It's most prominent in two places, a blotch 2 inches down from the top, and worse towards the bottom about an inch up (all along the right side)...
Noticed that if I shut the device down, and let it sit on a granite counter-top at room temp (brings the temp of the device down to room temp), after turning it back on around 20 minutes later it's gone on a fresh boot. After starting it again, the yellow burn slowly comes back, coming back even faster if I'm doing CPU intensive stuff on it, or if it's being charged.
Anyways... Even though I purchased the device at the retail location and have a 15 day return window, I didn't want to bother as right now there's the shortage of 128 units, I don't want to have to wait for stores to stock up again, so I called Microsoft and found out that right now under warranty they are replacing faulty devices with brand new ones... So I started a warranty case, hopefully will receive my new unit in a few days.
I did some googling, and I read about people with iPads, and iPhones having a yellow tint due to the glue not curing on brand new devices. Users reported it would go away in time. I'm assuming this isn't the case for me as it's not there on start, but comes after the device warms up...
Also, after reading iFixIt's post about the internals, I noticed the batteries edge inside the device is right about where the yellow marks are. I'm thinking the battery inside the unit may be swelling, and putting internal pressure on the LCD panel... The Yellow get's worse when charging, but at the same time, maybe there's just pressure inside the device from the manufacturing process, you never know.
I just hope hope hope that the device MS sends out is brand new as they said it would be.
Here's a pic, it's very hard to see as its extremely difficult to snap a picture due to auto-focus, lighting, etc... The yellow is usually only visible on white, and certain greys in the gray scale, you can't see it at all on black.

I think it must be the glue not properly done. Best to return and get a new one imo
And how are you liking it? I'm considering one.

At first I thought it was the glue, but just the disappearing act it does, I'm thinking it's a LCD pressure mark instead... If I turn on power savings mode, and don't do anything it fades, barely hard to see... When it gets hot it comes back. I'm almost positive it's the battery putting pressure on the LCD...
As for the device, I'm absolutely loving it. I was lucky enough to get a 128 on the Monday after launch. I've been bringing it with me everywhere. I haven't really used the pen, but I use my Touch keyboard all the time.
This thing is SLICK! And actually to be honest, I waited for the Pro since I thought I wouldn't be able to use the RT. After getting this, and LOVING the metro interface, along with the Metro apps, the only time I go to the desktop is for Office on a normal day. Even then, I actually use the Mail metro app for exchange most of the time, unless I need to do something advanced in Outlook.
I realized everything I use it for, I could have gotten away with an RT instead. I have absolutely NO complaints And to be honest I'm going to pick up an RT as well...
I'll use the RT for day to day, notes, meetings, e-mail, music, metro apps, etc... The battery life will be awesome.
I'll use the Pro for special stuff, like very technical meetings, implementations (I'm an IT guy), real technical work (where I need apps like vSphere client, putty, etc...)
I'm dead serious, this device is slick! Totally worth the money!
I'm actually starting to wonder if this is condensation... No idea why it would glow yellow though... No bubbles or anything...
Noticed that the top of the surface that faces you clicks when tapping on the black border, wonder if it's missing a seal...
w00t,
Called up, they replaced my surface pro, got a replacement within 2 days, brand new
No yellow!

I have the same issue and will also be asking for replacement.
You seemed to have liked the service provided by Microsoft, since you got your replacement in 2 days, I'm assuming that they cross-shipped? Or did you have to send it in first? Or did you got a MS Store (none for me in Montreal...)
Hi, i am in desperate need of a lcd display for a 7 pro but they are seriously hard to get hold of!
I have looked on ebay and theres only ones from HK or China and even then the sellers feedback on screens is poor!
I have phoned countless repair shops in the uk and only a couple claim to be able to get hold of the screen but then demand that they fix the phone themselves and a stupid fee and will not supply the screen to me.
one thing i have noticed it that the touch pro 2 and 7 pro screens look identical apart from the colour of the ribbon that connects them to the main cable that goes through the slide body.
there is no visual difference between the screens or connector cables other thab colour and they have the same specs also-
480 x 800 pixels, 3.6 inches and a 259 ppi pixel density
Does anyone know if they are actually interchangeable or not? i cant find a screen anywhere and my wife is not pleased with me right now as ive only just got the phone and a broke the lcd trying to remove the digitizer even though i was ultra carefull and used lots of heat, please can someone help!!!!
Thanks, Steve.
Hello! To most simply answer your question, no. The screens are very different despite looking similar. The old TP2 screen is not multitouch and WP7 requires this. Also, the old screen utilizes a stylus while the newer 7 pro screen doesn't even recognize that type of touch.
It is your phone after all, so if you would like to try this that's your choice. However its too much effort to affix the ribbon to the pcb to even make it worth it. My old TP2 has a cracked digitizer which I have a replacement for, but the ribbon is machine pressed onto the pcb and reattaching this connection would be very difficult without the type of heat/pressure used in the manufacturing of the phone.
If you decide to try it let us know the results!
I'm sorry, I just seen you said the lcd itself, I thought you were meaning the digitizer screens.
That being said, maybe the swap will work, as long as they hook up the same?

i found a seller with genuine touch pro 2 screens who is willing to take it back if it does not work for me, i will let everyone know if it works!
I can confirm, the touch pro 2 screen does NOT work in the 7 pro, it is almost identical but the conector is at most 1mm wider than the 7 pro but its enough to stop if fitting into the socket
Back to the drawing board for me i guess.

not sure if you still need an LCD, or maybe you got a new phone by now. I found this if your still interested in getting it up and going again.

not been on for a few days, thankyou for the link its still there and in europe!
I bought another 7 pro handset as i could not wait any longer, i had been forced back to my old Touch pro (raphael) and although not a bad phone and running a custom 6.5.3 rom , it just cant cope on the web anymore as all the standards have changed and nobody is supporting windows mobile anymore.
Its a shame cos windows mobile is by far a better operating system than windows phone, updated and running on better hardware it would have rocked.
even though i bought a new handset ive always intended on fixing the other one when i get the chance and have put a bid on that screen to remove the buy it now.
Fingers crossed that it dont go up in price, my wife will kill me if spend much more on these phones lol
once its fixed its going to go in its box and live in a safe place till ive worn out this new one, dont think i wll sell it, thanks for your help, you get a thanks meter point for this :good:
Steve.
You are welcome I was a little worried you might not get to the link fast enough but thankfully you did! I seen that and figured its a steal considering the lcd is nearly that price alone, plus all the work needed to change it. Good luck I hope you win it
Thanks geeze

as long as you get the right screen, theres no reason why you cant do it yourself, just go slow, very slow, read tutorials and be very carefull of all cables and boards inside. if it its the glass digitizer that is broken and not the whole display, be very very carefull when removing it from the lcd as theres a big chance of breaking the lcd as its removed, heat to relax the glue is your friend! if the glass is shatterd, removing the glass bit by bit instead of trying to remove it all at once may proove easyer and less risky on the lcd.
Good luck, steve.
Look at this auction: http://www.ebay.pl/itm/HTC-7-pro-Arrive-T7576-LCD-Display-/141028832234?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item20d5f933ea&_uhb=1 this is display for 7 Pro.
Hi,
I have the first edition of Surface RT 32GB.
One day, the surface went to sleep and the picture never came back on. Under a strong lamp/light you can see that the system is booting up, I can see surface logo and logon screen of the system. It's all there but the screen isn't lightning up.
Is it a problem with a backlight bulb? could it be something else which would be easily fixable? Tried different key combinations to change the brightness with no luck, also, can't recover the laptop as some errors are coming up during the process and because I can't see much on the screen I can't read properly what the errors are and I can't get pass it.
Unfortunately just couple of months out of warranty and Microsoft is now asking £130 for repair - which is more than buying one of those tablets on ebay :/
Thanks
Where were you when the lights went out?

Get that repair bro. The light is part of the LED display assembly. No software issue there or you would not be able to put a light to it and see. Sad news but tis true. You need a new screen.

The greatest risk with opening these things is cracking the glass, but with the screen as useless, that should not be a worry. Check out youtube for some videos on swapping out the screens. Half a dozen guitar picks, a good hair dryer (or heat gun) and a bunch of patience, should be all you need.
Hi. I was wondering if someone knows a way to use my surface rt 8.1 as a second screen. I appreciate all replies.
