He's saying, if you have a nexus 4 use files specific to your device. I'd recommend twrp recovery. Google nexus 4 teamwin and use that in fastboot.

You trying to flash on Vibrant? I believe the Nexus S /system partition is larger than the Vibrant's so that image won't fit.
No. I have a Nexus S -_-. Vibrant doesn't do fastboot.

I used the leaked firmware as a reference to extract the first version of an initramfs, at least it's not 100% broken but yeah as it is the kernel don't boot.

I'm surprised no one has made a system.img backup. If I knew how I would have >.<
I am also looking for a nandroid backup so I can restore my phone or at least a flashable zip with the system...as the drivers for fastboot is not working on my 64 bit windows..and I kind of messed up my phone trying to use LCD density changer on it. Now it just boots to a black screen and I need to reinstall the system somehow.

Do you have ClockworkMod recovery on your Nexus S? If so, just go to recovery mode and go to backup and restore, then do a backup and there should be a folder in you sdcard with the backup with boot.img, recovery.img, data.img and system.img
How do you properly flash a system.img? In clockwork?
I'm strongly awaiting a reply to this as well. My system was erased via fastboot and I'm in panic-mode

But in his post it says to flash via CWM (not fastboot, specifically.) How does one go about flashing a .img file in CWM?
reboot into recovery, in clockwork mod select advanced and restore from there
When I try flashing clockwork I get the following message:
sending 'recover' (3980 KB)... OKAY [ 0.866s]

Will test your CWM

My friend has a Moto G 2013 (XT1033) Dual SIM device. He asked me to update his device to lollipop prior updates were pushed to devices so I downloaded custom recovery and flashed a custom repack of lollipop firmware on his device but it had few problems like screen flickering and some other minor issues.
Now I thought I should update his device using fastboot to ASIARETAIL_XT1033_5.0.2_LXB22.46-28_cid7_CFC.xml I downloaded the ROM and flashed using fastboot after flashing the device doesn't boot. neither the recovery mounts /system partition
I have no idea what went wrong. tried flashing gptfix that doesn't work I get
Code:
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'partition' (32 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.035s]
writing 'partition'...
(bootloader) Preflash validation failed
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.317s
my bootloader has been updated to 41.18
Any help regarding this issue is appreciated.

I too has same problem. Only gpe firmware boots. Here the link but don't flash first two commands

If u want to use stock rom Convert from ext4 to f2fs through recovery then flash xt1032 flashable zip by lost101(as this is only solution still)
If u want to use custom rom flash directly over gpe

Ok guys, i had my Mate 9 with Emui 5 and android 7.0 this afternoon but i had to erase all cause i had problems with it. So i decided to flash it to new Emui 8 with android oreo (i have updated other phones in the past) but this time i can't get installed the new Os and i spent all day in this. I need someone to help me with this please.
Note: I got the bootloader unlock and twrp 3.1.1-0 :crying::crying::crying::crying:
Try and open cmd in the exact folder where the rom is extracted. also, pay attention you flash the same region build as u used to have. would also suggest go back to 7 and make ota update if non works.
Hope this helps
