Hi,
Has anyone faced weak network signal on MMX A110?
My screen display was broken & was replaced by service guys for Rs 3000. And since then the problem has started. Even very basic mobile shows more tower than this one. I doubt the service centre guys have changed some parts.
I didn't afford to go to them again as they took more than a month to replace the screen which was paid by me.
Has anyone faced similar problem with network signal or any known error or tweaks please?
Btw I rooted device & tried couple of different roms, no luck.
thanks in advance

Hi bishwa_it,
It seems there is a hardware fault.
However, you can try the following step:
1) Goto recovery --> wipe data/factory reset --> goto advanced --> wipe dalvik cache.
2) Reboot the system.
The signal issue will be resolved, and if not, contact the service guys immediately and get it fixed as they might have done something wrong while replacing the screen.
Hope this method helps!
Hit thanks button if it helps
Important: This will delete all your system data. Try to backup data before proceeding.

Hello there,
Check your network mode in settings:
Goto --> settings --> more --> mobile networks --> 3g service --> network mode --> chose auto mode.
If you are on a 3g network, may be the 3g network is weak in your area. Contact your network operator about this.
This happens sometimes that 2g network is good in the area but 3g is little weak. And that is why you can see full network bar in the basic handset as they catch only 2g signals.
Hope this information helps!
Let me know what is the signal strength your are recieving in your handset in decibels. To check this : Goto settings --> about phone --> status --> sim status --> check "signal strength" and "mobile network type" for "both sims" you have in your phone and let me know --> it would be in terms of "dBm" and "asu".

I also agree from your earlier post that it's a hardware fault.
By the way when there's no n/w it shows 0 dBm 99 asu. Service status remain Out of service.

Just to add, I use only 1 sim. When there's good coverage then no difference with other mobiles.
I changed network selecting from GSM/WCDMA (WCDMA preferred) to GSM/WCDMA (auto) in engineering mode, but no effect.

I've searched and can't find a thread with stuff helpful to me. I would like a radio that will allow me to use 2G network. I live in rural Alaska and we have some crappy networks. I know it would probably work with factory settings, but I'd like to keep my phones custom rom Honeysense 6.2.2. I have been trying to make it work on the apn settings given to me by my provider but haven't succeeded. If someone out there has a solution please help.

Use Network. Towards the bottom, change the option to GSM Only.
1. "Sorry to ask but Radio help please" <-- Don't be sorry to ask. No one is going to flame u if ur efforts were genuine in searching first.
2. For ur question:
a. [User input] Go to wireless settings, and select 2G network
[System Action] This will turn off data, and re-enable it, but high chances (for me, its "always") still be on 3G/H
b. [User input] Go to network selection mode, and select manual
[System Action]This will present u with a list of networks to select (only one if u r on AT&T)
c. [User input] Select the network (AT&T if u r on AT&T)
This should now put the phone on 2G/EDGE network.
Warning: Since u r forcing this, there could be some patches (like when on certain areas when on road, etc) where u cud face loss of signal.

Using this app (this app is just a shortcut to the options in *#*#4636#*#*) many a times caused me a Phone process FC in an infinite loop (most recent one was y'day). The FC loop sometimes wasn't instantaneous, and started after ending a call and when the phone tried to get back to EDGE network.
Only way out was restoring from my previous nandroid backup. So I would be cautions.
Hi All,
I got a Nexus S (I9020T) from US. I am trying to use it in India with a GSM carrier - BSNL ( gsm 900Mhz).
Problem :
When ever I am inserting GSM Sim, it catches the signal (both gsm + data) but after 3-5 minutes only gsm signal is lost. I cannot make or receive calls, it says emergency call only.
I tried to make call, it says "no mobile network available". Where as i could surf the net with 3g data plan.
what I did :
1) I tried to reboot the phone. Still no signal.
2) I tried to remove battery and sim , and put it back and switch on. Still no signal.
3) I tried to dial *#*#4636#*#* . Enter into phone information-->Select preferred network type to - WCDMA preferred, GSM only (all GSM options tried)
and reboot the phone. Still no help.
Please help me. I am completely frustrated.
Regards,
Rajesh

Have you added the new APN?
(I'm assuming you're on 4.0)
Settings --> More... --> Mobile networks --> Access Point Names --> Press menu button and select "New APN"
Google the APN settings for your provider and input them. Make sure you remember to press menu and SAVE APN when your finished.

What is the version of your baseband? You can check it in Settings/About or in Fastboot/Bootloader mode.
What is the model written beneath your battery on the sticker?

Hi, baseband version - I9020XXKI1
Kernel Version - 3.0.8-g6656123
model -I9020T
The baseband is OK. It supports 900 MHz operation. You should contact your operator regarding this issue, it can happen they use special/non-standard GSM solutions (frequency sets, etc.) which is not supported by this phone.
You can try switching to 2G mode only (you can find this in Settings/Mobile networks).
You should check in this mode the signal in Settings/About/Status (in dBm).
If it's below -100 dBm then signal coverage is poor or unsupported frequencies are used by your operator or your HW radio chip is corrupted.
To rule out the last possibility, you should check your signal and dBm value with a SIM card from another operator.
UMTS functionality is handled by a separate chip (not by GSM radio), so it can happen 3G is OK but GSM (2G) not.

Thanks for reply..n helping me out.
I believe my carrier BSNL uses standard GSM frequencies..samsung note, galaxy series pretty much work with it.
I tried switching to 2G mode, same problem.
I checked signal strength : it varies from -91dBm to -93dBm.
I inserted other GSM carrier SIM , same problem - no signal.
This Nexus S mobile was working fine with T-mobile when I was in USA.
It seems some Hardware radio incompatibility or something else..God Knows!!

One thing i noted, it identifies the carrier correctly in Settings-->About-->Status-->Network
IMEI(*#06#) shows different from the IMEI written under battery.
Are you using Custom Rom?

Your /efs is corrupted and some carriers block generic IMEIs, that's where your issue lies
Sent from my ice cream powered Nexus S
Wrong IMEI
Yes my /efs is corrupted. My IMEI shows 004999010640000.
I came to know it happened due to flashing custom ROMs ( Ohh god why did i flash custom ROM) .
I used CWM. This didn't back up my /efs folder and hence the problem.
Its my bad luck, even i did not read any suggestion to back up /efs folder in any guide for flashing custom ROM.
Its really waste of time and effort on my part to go for Android. So much complexity for just a cellphone.
I would better go for iPhone. (Thank God , no custom IOS).
RIP - my Nexus S.
Thanks everybody for helping me and answering me.
The IMEI can be restored, so your Nexus S can be made registered on your operator's network. Instructions to do so can be found, but it can be illegal in your country. Modifying an IMEI is generally is, but if it's done for restoring purposes, then it might not fall in the same category.

The problem with your statement is, that these are not just cellphones, much more minicomputers (with GSM radio and UMTS modem).

Android is far better customizable and not proprietary software as iOS. Apple can keep its price unrealistically high. They cost far much than their real value. So they are bought not because their usefulness, rather to show other people that one can afford it.
I recently installed the JellyBean ROM for my A2 and changed few settings in the power manager after which I am unable to get 4G connectivity. I always see Edge in the status bar. I've tried re-trace my steps in the power manager but havent been able to turn on 4G yet.
Any guidance on how I could get my 4G back ?
----- UPDATE ----
I had to flash the same ROM again onto my phone and now its functioning properly. Still don't know the root cause but will report again if I see it happen again.
Thanks

Which JellyBean ROM? Please remember to be very specific as to the conditions surrounding the problem you're having!
I'd first try to go into Settings/ Below Data Usage tap 'More...'/ Mobile Networks
and make sure that 'Use only 2G networks' isn't checked.
Also, which carrier are you on? (I know most are on AT&T, but I'm on Straight Talk so I ask)

Thanks for your reply. I'm on the "MagicMod-Jellybean-Experimental" Atrix ROM on ATT.
The "Always use 2G" is unchecked which means that it should use 4G when available. Which bought me to the next section where I could search for network providers. When I searched for networks, most of the times my phone fails to find ATT in the list of available networks. I do have 4 bars on my phone though. I dont see the network provider name in the status bar so I dont know where it is connected currently.
My current hypothesis is that my phone is unable to connect/register to the ATT network and so I dont get 4G speeds.
Does that make sense?

Yep. I'm aware that a H is 4G. I see an 'E' next to the signal bar. I did have an 'H' right after I installed my ROM but since today I'm only seeing 'E' .
I'll try flashing the CM10 ROM and check if that fixes my issue. If not, I'll copy over an apns-config.xml from an ICS install and replace my current one with that just in case.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that. Looks like a reflash (of the same ROM) solved the problem for me though. Its back to 'H' for me. I still haven't tried to flash CM10.

Hi,
Using HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e since last 5 months - Stock ROM updated to ICS 4.0.3 OTA + Sense 3.6.
I am having this issue of total data connectivity loss after every 2 days or so. The 2G/3G icon (arrows) are present in notification bar but remain grayed out. Mobile Network in Settings is ON. Toggling the Mobile Network and/or Airplane Mode doesn't resume connectivity.
Only way to resume data connection is to Restart the phone. Once restarted, connectivity works for another 2 days and then hangs again. But restarting the phone removes my setup parameters like default apps, Cell Broadcast, etc. I have to set them again.
Tried to find solution on the net without any success. Tried using apps like 3G Reconnect which didn't help. I am using an app called Easy Battery Saver. Suspecting that app to be the culprit, uninstalled it but still the problem persists.
Has anybody else encountered this issue? Whether is it a software issue or a hardware one? Is there any solution available?
Thanks & Regards,
Rad.
Hi, if you have 4g connectivity available in your area you can press *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone information, then find your current signal, then press on it, a sub menu will come up you can change your signal this way. I prefer 4G, so I press wdcma only and that gives me a solid 4G signal without switching back and fourth. This will work best if you have a 4g signal available in your area .then scroll down and press refresh. If you don't have 4g in your area you can experiment with the different signals available to your area. It should lock you on that signal. Now if your in an area where nothing is available this will not work. It can also explain the data connection issues your experiencing . But give it a try. I was having signal issues and this helped me a lot by locking on 4g signal and not switching back and fourth. Like I mentioned it only works with what's available in you're area so give it a try and see if it helps the connection problems your getting. I know it helped me. Best of luck. Also write down the code to remember it because on reboot you will need to set it again. Hope this is helpful to you. Good luck.

Unfortunately I don't have 4G service in my area. Also, I forgot to mention that I have already tried *#*#4636#*#* code. I tried using both "GSM Only" as well as "WCDMA Only" options, but that too didn't help.
Hello there, i just got this phone 3 weeks ago and since i have wifi i didnt test the 3g conection before. i activated a data pack and i just realized that my 3g doesnt come on at all. the screen shows 4g left side of the signal strengh but it doesnt work at all. i got at&t version. i confirmed with my carrier and i did activate data, they even helped me to set up the apn but is still not working. can you helpe me? thanks!
PD: they said they couldnt have done more because they dont support that type of device
Does it say 4G or 4G LTE? The at&t icons are a bit different I'd you're not used to them.
4G = hspa
4G LTE = LTE
So if you're getting the 4G icon you are actually getting 3G hspa speeds.

If another carrier besides AT&T, you will need to find the APN settings for your carrier and manually enter it into Settings>Mobile network settings>Access point names. Select "New APN" and enter the correct settings for your manufacturer.
The 4G icon simply means a network is present, it doesn't mean you are connected to it.
thank you for helping people. whel actualy i wouldnt mind getting 3g network access, the point is that i dont have internet access at all. i called my carrier (Claro - El salvador) and they helped me to set up the apt but is still not working. i was wondering if there is something else i could try to fix this
nevermind, i finally fixed it

sorry. well, first i did master reset, once done i set up an apn (carrier provides you with this info), then went to mobile network > network operators > select automatically. once the device found the "CLARO" network i turned data on and got internet service.
Thankyou, these threads live on long after we're finished with them so it's important to have the information readily available for future troubleshooters.

I'm guessing you either had not entered the APN info exactly correctly the first time. Or also, after entering the APN you actually have to select it as the "active" one on the list of APNs (making sure it has the colored dot next to it). Maybe it did need a factory reset, but this shouldn't be necessary just to change APN.
Happy you got it figured out.
