Thats the proximity sensor. Try restarting the phone or make a call and use the sensor, it might turn off.

Yesterday i bought HTC explorer and a made a call from it . When call was connected :, i turned off my display using power button and saw a strange led light (very low and red colored near proximity sensor) . In just wondering what kind of led that was ; notification light or a hardware defect ???

Not sure what it was you saw, but there is no notification LED on the Explorer (sadly).
the glowing thing was your proximity sensor...
yea that was surely your proximity sensor and what you thinking as proximity sensor was the other light sensor of course
Try calling with ur screen off and may u see little red light .
Regards

Yes man its proximity sensor its help the phone to identify that U keeping Ur phone close to Ur ear or not .if u keep it closer to Ur ear it will automatically switch of the screen light.. its working even in many voice call application also man.
U stated the its near proximity sensor but its near ambient light sensor...
Ambient light sensor will help u to adjust the screen brightness automatically based the light intensity in Ur surrounding...
Proximity sensor will use some kind of light emission which will reflected by any obstacle (Ur face or anything) then it will reach the sensor once again this will help the device find that Ur keeping Ur phone nearer...
I got it . Is the proximity sensor which shows low red light on upper right corner. You can try this app (pocket sensor) and turn it on , you too will be able to see that light.
Thanks

Are you rooted? If so, what ROM?
Try using compressed air to clean the sensor.
Getting dust and lint in, or around the sensor can cause it to not function properly.

Notification Led diode

Hi guys!
Iam having a problem with notification led diode. It doesnt work. I havent seen the light yet.
I just tried Light Flow app but it also wasnt able to light the led up.
So i assume that my phone is broken in that part and the diode just doesnt work on my Nexus 5.
Does anyone have some the same problem?

Is it switched on in settings under display?

Yep its turned on.

Figured it would be but had to ask. Factory reset as a last resort maybe?

I installed Light Flow. Took a few minutes before I got any lights.
There's a test mode in light flow. Might be worth trying that too.

Test mode in LF didn't work for me. I was going to uninstall but then I noticed the battery charging light came on. Now all of the programmed lights in LF work for me. I have not retried the test light feature.
light flow might have just glitched up the led for a bit. If it stops working again, try clearing app data, or reinstall, or uninstall light flow altogether. It has been known to have some issues.
In light flow you have to turn off the screen after turning on test mode, if you haven't tried that already.

Yes, the screen MUST be off for the notification light to illuminate. In addition, at least for Light Flow, it can take several seconds for the notifications to light up, even when performing a test.
Same problem here and it's going to back for a refund. It was actually a replacement unit for the first one which had speaker issues.
I tried everything and never saw the light come on once while the first unit worked fine with the same settings.
try this

Low Battery Light

With the moto g if you have low battery a red light appears near the proximity sensor So can people mod it for notification use or do something with it thank you
As far as i know moto g has only unicolor led and that is conposed of white color only. Might be some preproduction unit had rgb led but commercially available moto g are embedded with white led only - as reported by number of users aroubd globe.

The proximity sensor works with a weak red light, maybe that is what you see in a really dark place.

[Q] Red LED problem in Galaxy R

My Galaxy R is running on a Omni ROM based on Kitkat. I have noticed that when the screen is off the red LED beside the speaker at the top, turns on and when the screen is on, it goes off. I didn't notice any such change when my GR was on stock ROM.
Is it normal? or does this denotes that something serious? will it affect the battery life?
and lastly....
Is there a way to turn this LED off?
Kindly help.
tayadeamit
It's the proximity sensor, it must be turned on on stock too when you have a call.
