My phone has been a lot lately, but only because of using the GPS, whether it's Google Maps or Waze. It gets warm over time if I'm just browsing through the internet or check social media. I take long drives to place to place often, but it gets annoying when it starts to overheat. I do charge it while I use the GPS, I put the brightness up to about half way so I can see the map, and I use a windshield mount for the phone. It hasn't gotten to the point where it overheats where I can't charge it or crashes. The hottest it has gotten to is between 115-125 F. Is there a way for it to keep it cooled down? I'm using the CarbonROM if that helps out.

first off, are you talking about cpu temps or battery temp? for cpu, 115-125F is relatively cool. it overheats at 105C(221F).

ok, 125F is a little warm for the battery, but still within the safe range. if your battery reaches 60C, which would be extremely rare, your phone will automatically power off(to cool off), as that is a safety feature to protect the battery from overheating.

yup. technically its fine at that point as well(for short periods of time), but thats the point googles developers decided to be safe with. the only time i get my battey really hot is when im plugged in and playing a cpu intensive game or plugged in and streaming a movie. but that doesnt bother me, as in those situations it reaches the cpu safety limit of 105C(i disable thermal throttle, the first cpu temp safety) way before the battery gets too hot

give it a restart and see if its still overheating while charging.
Still seems to heat up, even when not charging, it not too sure if its normal since my desire HD doesn't heat at all.
around what temp should it be normally?
I also find the battery almost impossible to remove.

could be that you got some apps that's making your processor go crazy =/
Got any apps like setCPU or along those lines and you set it to be as high as possible or set to Performance? That can cause overheating if you don't set a profile to bring it back down. If not, maybe you could install apps like SystemPanel or WatchDog Task Manager to check if there's any strange apps.
You could always reflash your rom or a different one to see if that fixes the problem.
Might also be a battery problem. Replacing the battery could help too.
I'm not rooted yet, i just wanted to know if there was something wrong with my optimus3d
I recently tested the battery with the StabilityTest app over 2 hours long (noncharging) and it didn't go over 28°C... so normally it can't be a problem with an app stressing the cpu too much
how long should the O3D's battery last? Mine pretty much goes down 1% in less than 1 minute with display on full brightness while doing almost nothing...

Most probably you have a process causing this. If you are using any kind of cover or case, DON'T use it until the problem is fixed, or you can get the cpu burned
i'm using a brand new optus australia optimus 3d, it doesn't have a cover, or much apps installed (Except ADW and a few gameloft games - which don't cause battery drain on my desire hd)
Android system seems to be using 70% as well, even though autosync is off.
I'm using the most recent android 2.2.2 update.
Its fairly normal for it to heat up a little when charging. The charge circuit has a feature where it will fast charge and try to dump as much current as it can into the battery when it is really low. I have a two amp usb mains charger that fully charges the battery in 20 minutes and that causes it to heat up pretty significantly. I find that any task that works the gpu significantly heats it up too. Pretty normal really.

my battery takes quite a long time to charge though...
You need to check your CPU usage, if your cpu running 100% all the time, that mean something is bugged. I got this problem now, sometimes after using the MX video player, my cpu always stay at 100%, I need to restart my phone to fix it.
i use recent coh gingerbread v2.2 and watch movie for almost 2 hr and at about 46c
I am trying to get the most out of my inspire. I want to do everything in my power to make the battery life the best it can get. your cpu doesnt account for much power drain. it runs in low power modes most of its time. battery life is sucked up by the display backlight and the cell radio. slowing your cpu down will just make it work longer instead of faster.

Thanks for the info so running at 700mhz instead of 1000 won't help me much if I'm just using doggcatcher with the screen off? I find that even with moderate use the battery drains quickly. I leave data off and and wifi on and yet it really doesn't seem to get great battery life. i have a power inverter in my car and plenty of usb cables around the house for charging it's just that i would like to know it won't die on me if i'm away from a charger for too long. maybe my best bet would be something like one of those duracell usb power supplies?

if you push your phone into using edge only. itll connect by gsm and is a far less power drain. i use that mostly and can hit about 6hrs of talk time and when idle drops about 1% per hour

hi..
when playing ingress my battery can reach up to 50 -52 degrees celius, while my CPU can go to 60-70, sometimes the phone shuts itself down.
are there any packages i can use with heat sink or something similar to vent off the heat ?

Is your phone in a case? Many of them would act as insulators, trapping heat inside. Running without a case will probably help it stay cool. Also, I think the unit will run cooler with the keyboard open.
I've got nothing to productive to contribute to this conversation other than I've noticed this too.
The phone will be unbearably hot to hold. I've tried to see if any application were running in the background, eating up resources, but there's nothing consistent that I can report. Some days my phone will go all day long without any problems. Other days, the phone just drains the battery really fast, gets really hot, and displays an over-heating message. The only thing I've been able to do is shut the phone down and remove the battery and wait a few minutes until it's cool to the touch, then put it back in.
Same and this is a relatively new issue.

I used to play Ingress about 6 months ago on my old Cliq2 and I can confirm it uses a lot of resources. My phone used to crash all the time due to, I guess, not enough memory. And it was rooted and fully debloated.
You won't be able to easily extract the heat from inside your phone. One thing you could try is to play without the back cover. Just tape the battery so that it doesn't fall. You'll have to be careful to not damage anything that will be exposed on the back though.
Another thing you can also do is slow down your CPU using some app. If using CM 10.2 it's very easy to do. Go to the performance settings and choose a lower maximum frequency.
Finally, the last idea I can offer is to tether your phone and play using a tablet. The best setup I've seen is some guy having a tethering cell phone in a backpack, with a large extra battery connected to both the cell phone and the tablet he was actually playing from. He could play all day like that.

Well we're officially supported on CM so not bad I suppose ;p
CM-10.2 will run cooler than stock due to use of AVS. This dynamically adjusts the CPU voltage levels to reduce power consumption and heat, even when the CPU is running full out.
Also note that not all CPUs are created equal. Some require significantly more power to run stable than others. If your bootloader is sending sec_pvs=fafa as a kernel commandline argument, then it means that somebody up at samsung or qualcomm has determined that your CPU needs full on maximum power, which basically means that it will be un-nice on battery and heat. PERIOD.
To reduce heat levels, run it connected to a >= 1 Amp wall charger (to keep it from sucking off the battery -- note: NOT a USB port), keyboard open (more surface area = more heat dissipation), and BACK COVER REMOVED (reduce insulation).
I've noticed that the phone can get warm, but the only time I've had overheating issues was either a) during a long rsync-over-SSH run on Wi-Fi, or b) phone left in car on a hot day with GPS and navigation (either Google or Sygic) running. The latter was fixable by running the air conditioning.
In my experience, it has just been hot enough to shut down charging, not the entire phone.
I've just ditched the case, mostly because the plastic tabs don't work very well. I'll have to see what this does to thermal behavior.
Hello guys.
So i bought the s6 non edge 32 gig model 3 days back. The phone is awesome no doubt but i had heating issues from the very first day. First i thought it might be the battery drain. did factory reset and i was getting 4hrs+ SOT with 5.0.1.
Now i am on 5.1.1 and the battery seems to have improved giving 5hrs SOT. But the phone heating issue remains the same. The phone gets warm about 92F above after 5 minutes to 10minutes normal usage.
Using the phone for 30 min the temperature is near 100F . is it normal? Cpu spy shows normal activity. The phone only heats while using it is cool with screen off. The heat is felt on the left side of camera and spreads around after more usage. Due you think its because of the climate. i live in a place where summers are always above 93F . But even in AC phone gets pretty warm.
Do you think my battery timings and phone heating is normal. Please comment i am quite worried about it i spent a lot of money on it.

i think if you're worried about it you can bring it to Samsung Service Center to get it fixed.
i donot have samsung centre in my area. infact i have to ship it to dubai to get it fixed. can you tell me does your device gets warm after using it?

okay so i downloaded both apps... the cpu spy shows no sign of abnomal cpu usage... it is in deep sleep for most of the time. better battery stats show no app draining battery... i only use fb/messenger and gmail app. today i got 5 hrs SOT with 22hrs usage time. i think the battery us fine but why the phone warms up so much. My question is how oftenly do you feel that yous phone is getting warm?
Maybe brightness is too high causing the phone to heat. Cases also make phones overheat.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Galaxy S6 32gb and I would only get roughly 10 hours battery life out of it with 2 hours screen on time and as soon as I turned the screen on, it would be so hot on the right side, you couldn't actually hold it. I just ended up selling it and didn't think to contact Samsung or anything because it did it every time I turned the screen on so I just thought it might've been normal. I always had everything turned off with just wifi and auto screen brightness on and just 1 Google account synced too. :silly:

Figured out it was a hardware issue... there are two ways to check if you s6 heating issue is software or hardware related. install gsam battery monitor and see if kernel or android OS (apart from any third party app draining) is draining most battery than its a software issue.
otherwise its a hardware one. i got mine replaced and the new one works fine.
I have received my P6a yesterday..
And I can feel device getting warm with normal use like WhatsApp, Phone call & Instagram...
Can feel device getting warm even when I'm using Wi-Fi..
It starts heating(because it's more than just warm) when charging...
Any fix or suggestion is welcomed..

When my Pixel 4 XL overheated, it was usually because I was charging and playing games on it at the same time. If it gets hot, then I would reboot it or leave it powered off for a minute. Could that be the case here?
Also, this is a new phone and you just installed a bunch of apps. My guess is that Android is likely evaluating and learning your habits so that it can optimize your battery and other stuff -- so there's alot of internal processing going on causing it to warm up.
Also, if you live in a city where the weather is warm or hot, then that'll make your phone warm or hot as well. So far, my 6a hasn't stayed warm very long except when I was transferring over/installing all my apps ... and it hasn't gotten hot yet.
The phone does get very warm, but it is also the middle of summer and we just set everything up. Tensor is also known for running on the toasty side. Unless your phone is warning you about excessive heat, it is within normal parameters.
it runs definitely warmer than a pixel 4 doing the same stuff.
I have sensor genius installed so it's logging temp 24/7. please do the same and let's share the graphs.
Mine is running substantially cooler using LTE rather than 5g, hopefully this is fixed through software updates.
I also put mine in LTE mode and it's much cooler. 5G is a bit overkill for mobile stuff at least for me, I just turn it on when using hotspot.
Ok, finally experienced the heating issue just doing normal browsing on LTE. Battery temp got up to around 43c on a cool day with no sunlight.
After some searching I found that turning off adaptive connectivity helps. After turning that off, temps are much better. I was in an area with poor signal so that likely was a part of it, but something else to try.

Another option to try is Disable Adaptive Battery, Disable 5G(If not necessary)..
I wouldn't worry too much. I absolutely assassinated my Pixel 3a XL. It was always hot. For couple of years. Huge amounts of onscreen time. Leaving it under blankets while charging on accident etc etc... Thing was fine. Also, a battery is only $12 and these pixels the easiest phones to open if you do somehow end up with severely reduced battery life couple years down the road
It's more the insane battery drain that goes along with the heat then the heat itself.
May be a CPU usage app that tracks what's taking up so much processor power.
My issue went away once I turned off adaptive connectivity.

Same. As in my country there is no 5G yet, I've changed to LTE preferred and phone is not hot anymore and battery doesn't drain.
It'd maybe gimp the overall performance some but u could try under-clocking your CPUs with FKM or EXKM while u track down the issue. (that is, if your bootloader is unlocked...in which case u could use BBS to track battery usage)
