Hi Guys
Bit of a newbie - I'm considering buying the atom from expansys which is available on this link
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=126950
Would anyone be able to give me a feel on the implications of the HK warranty.
I'm a little concerned I may end up with a rushed out model with poor english etc etc etc
Cheers guys
this is the first time ive seen the Atom. Looks realy nice. Do you know if it has 3G and if O2 will be selling this in store?
Also is there a built in keyboard?
Dont think i will get one as ive only had my exec a couple of months but it looks very cool in Black
As far as I am aware
It isn't 3G, O2 will be selling it at some point but dates have not yet been set and it does not have a keyboard. It does however have a radio and is really small for its spec
I just hope if I do order one with the HK warranty I don't end up with a half baked dud
Does anyone else have any experience of these sort of things ???
As far as I'm aware, O2's Warranty's are limited to the region where the phone was sold - so you'd have to ship it back to HK to be fixed under warranty if you bought it there.
I have one - and it's great. It's not 3G and doesn't have a keyboard but it's very nice.
Kevin
Was yours from HK or have they already been released in Austrailia, and do you suffer from the device hanging at any point?

Normally if a product comes with a country specific warranty, in this case HK, should anything go wrong you would have to ship the product to Hong Kong to get it repaired- that’s if the warranty doesn’t require you to be a resident in the same country. i.e. HK. You would probably have to pay for the shipping for sending it off and again for receiving it, out of your pocket (plus shipping insurance).
Looks like we have common views on the warranty - do any of you guys have any thoughts on language issues, rushed out models - early roms being traumatic etc

I think you may get a better response by posting on one of the asian sites like: www.ppcsg.com or Ozzie sites like: http://www.mtekk.com.au
I believe a few number of people have had the device for a while and could shed some light on their experiences.
I too am thinking about getting this phone, but have similiar concerns with ROM, stability etc. There seem to be equally good and bad reviews from people. I'll probably wait until more people 'test' it.
Hey,
some regional Expansys sites say the Touch Cruise has been discontinued. Any idea what the heck is going on? Anyone?
maybe they don't know nothing
heh lets hope their trannie webworker dont push the release ½year next by mistake

so you think it might be just one guy screwing up almost all regional expansys sites? i tried just randomly the czech one, the greek, italian and several others. it seemed to be a rather massive occurence.
all i say is the jumping the gun is a bit eraly from 1 reseller
wait and see
i know raskell is replying. no u idiots it aint disconntinued.
Discontinued?
I checked the Expansys sites in UK and MobilePlanet Us an both say expecting availability on Dec 16th. Should I send mine back? Perhaps if it is discontinued, the value may increase as a 'rare' item?????

Hey, I will be very glad to end up corrected. What I was trying to point at was that half of the expansys sites seem not to distribute the product to their respective countries any more. And I don't think it is necessary to give me this abuse just because I worry about a major distributor's withdrawal of the product. If it still comes out in the UK, I will happily order it from there and just get a european charger.
I am just getting a little anxious. I really want to buy a cool PDA phone. Originally I was waiting for months for Eten X800 only to find out from forums and reviews that it is a screwed up product. Then I started saving money for the Cruise, hoping I will be able to order it so that it can make it to the mail before Xmas. Now I naturally got scared when I - while browsing for some update - got the "discontinued" message.
No problem irvo, it just might be better if you post "Is the Cruise discontinued?" and also post the web address that shows the information so your concern can be verified.
As we know, several of the i-Mates have been discontinued, but with HTC, the Touch line is very popular right now. Cancelling one of those devices would be a serious flaw in their business plan.
Yup, my thoughts exactly - discontinuation would seem very illogical. And you're right, I might have been a little jumpy with the post title.
I found the "discontinued" label for example here:
http://www.expansys.cz/p.aspx?i=159610
but also at some other expansys local sites, for example the greek, austrian, or spanish one.
i think it would be a good thing, as mine is in the mail right now

wow, congrats! where were you ordering from?
Yeah where???
it wouldn't be nice to tell
although if you do want to buy one at a slight discount i think there is a group buy going on at hofo
Anyone else order from Expansys?
I bought one from Devicewire.co.uk, and it is on its way, due here tomorrow,
BUT then I have this Expansys order....
The happily took my bank transfer....(so they have my money since December) told me multiple dates for shipping... have pushed and pushed and came up with excuses of why they havent sent it to me even when thay had it IN stock...
anyway, now i see that if i look at my order on their website it says 2 days until they get it, BUT on their website if you just look at the touch cruise product page it says 1 day...
WTF???
I pre-ordered and prepaid. some people already got the phone from Expansys, the came up with excuses for their mess-ups as to why i didnt get mine... these people are obviously not good to do business with.
Anyone know, by whatever means, if Expansys.se will actually have the Touch Cruise tomorrow? (or are their dates being pushed to Feb like everyone else, and they are just too chicken sh#t to admit it?)
bad business, bad bad business Expansys
Devicewire.co.uk is the best!!!
I want this phone! But in Norway that's not going to happen via the carriers. So I have followed eBay since it came out in Japan, and as of yet there hasn't been a single one for sale there! Is there any way to get this phone? Preferably yesterday...
Have you checked here?
http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=179063
They don´t give a date but I heard will be in september the launching
Thanks, but I don't buy from them anymore. Their service is rubbish, on two phones I have had it took them two months or more to get them fixed! One of them it actually took them two months to say "sorry, buyt we can't fix this", and that only happened after I phoned them and threatened to jump on my motorbike and tear their French (seems like all European repairs are done in France, and efficiency isn't exactly the mark of that country!) headquarter down brick by brick with my own fists to get to the very rude lady that took care of the matter. I also mailed her a picture of me, and I think that made them speed up things a bit...
And I really would like to wait a week or two, not until September!
Shame to hear yopur experience was not good with them...
If I know some other place, let you know
Cheers,
Thanks!

you can try this site i don't know much about it myself personally but i hope it helps you. http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=4970243
Hope another member can give a review of that site, prices looks low to me, hope its not a scam...
I bought my TG01 off ebay for 480€.
But now, there`s not a single one available anymore!
I actually got the last one I've seen on ebay.
Thanks for the tip! But I didn't have time to wait so I have a HTC Touch HD now. If money (well, my wife...) permits, I'll get a TG01 in a few months.
Btw that Rightmate shop looks suspicious. Look at their front page: http://rightmate.ecrater.com/ Nothing says "good, professional shop" more than "Your image here"...

lol i didn't even see that part i just went to ecrater....i don't blame you for being skeptical
Ja, there's some on ebay.de if that's ok with you
http://handy.shop.ebay.de/Handys-Sm...a+tg01&_catref=1&_fln=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282
But I guess Norway ain't in the EU so you may have to pay tax
This is a MASSIVE phone I thought it was pretty ugly (saw it in orange).
Just my 2p
Yeah, it's big. But I saw a compare review out on the net, and it turns out that I may just as well stick with my HTC Touch HD. Nothing much to recommend the TG01 over that.
Hello Users! My first post (woohoo) and probably a very noobish one.
Now, I've been using this forum for ages, but never made an account, been using it for my nice Sensation XE, got some great roms and help from the forums.
Anyway, more to the point.
In the UK, the TF700T's are about £600 default at the moment and just keep rising, now, I can get a US one for about £340, which is a lot more in my price range.
Now, I know the obvious, I'll need a US to UK transformer. However, is there anything else I need to be worried about? Such as, Keyboard layout? Firmware? Like, anything major that could effect me having an US tablet in the UK.
I don't give a toss about warranty, I'll be rooting it before I even use it. But, just worried incase firmwares are different? Stopping me from rooting/customisation, I'm just a little stuck here, wasn't sure if I should have stuck this in QnAs, but a general discussion sounded better since I know it's a question a lot of people ask, and people might have different takes on it.
Thank you for reading, much appreciated!

Other side of the world here so can't be definite but:
* keyboard - if you get the dock the layout will be slightly different (your ' and @ are transposed I believe and you'll have $ instead of pound sign) but I assume on the tablet itself you have UK keyboards?
* firmware - if similar to here you'll get it faster than others in UK (I got the latest update a day or two before those that bought locally in Oz)
No idea if there are any other ramifications.
Not really. I live in Sweden and bought mine in NY on my last trip there. Haven't experienced any problems at all. So you're good to go.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app

ARen't you forgetting import duty? If they catch you anyway...
Hm...
The joy of Android is that it comes with all languages installed, so the tablet you can just set to UK English instead of US English, and that changes the Tablet's keyboard, dictionary and such to the UK layout. The dock, however, will be a US layout. Though from what I've seen, all other countries sell the US-layout keyboard anyhow.
You'll most likely get the updates faster, and that probably includes Jelly Bean. (I see people here mentioning updates I've not seen yet, when, ironically, the Dutch stores sold it before the US...) The firmware for US is different from the international one, or at least there are different versions listed.
Actually, most users here are US, and thus use the US firmware. You'll probably have an easier time rooting and customizing your tablet when you have a US one than if you have a UK one.
Just make sure the store shipping it marks the shipment as GIFT, or you'll be paying a massive import fee.
I paid £60 import duty on my 700 from the US to UK. Apart from a £5 US to UK adaptor i still dont think thats too bad. (i didnt get the keyboard as i had my 200 keyboard)
Do it!
I bought mine in the us, the only catch I found is that the nice UK plug is £25 (but well worth it in my opinion).
That version has snap on us plug adaptors but the one in the box is fixed in place
Can you not just use a power adapter? I thought the transformer line had a power transformer which could handle 240 and 110V inputs? Could well be wrong though!

Hi I have just found this thread, I am also thinking about buying the tf700 from the US, were you sent a import invoice with your tablet? and how long did it take to come from the US?

Do bear in mind, as others have suggested, if you have it shipped to you via mail order you will almost certainly be hit for 20% VAT for an import from a non EU country
If you travel to the US yourself and carry it back you are less likely to need to pay (although technically the VAT is still due)
That said; I'm using a US keyboard (TF201 - not that there is any difference) I sourced to match the TF700 that I imported from Germany. No problems at all. The biggest difference in key layout is the " and @ are swapped around... but takes no time to get used to that.
Good luck!
Yes you can just us a cheap US to UK adaptor, no need to voltage changes. I paid £5 for one in maplin.
Also if you must have a real UK adaptor (for some reason) then just google tf101 power adaptor in Ebay and get one of those. I bought a real asus 101 adaptor for £15 off ebay, better than spending £30 on a 700 one.
