[Q] need some help installing custom recovery on already rooted device - HTC One SV

hi!
i have a k2_ul device, rooted, 2.00 hboot, locked, S-OFF. i rooted it via moonshine last year and later upgraded to android 4.2.2. i never installed a custom recovery but want to install TWRP now.
when i wanted to install TWRP via fastboot i got
Code:
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
i suspect this ti because my device is LOCKED (i think that it was unlocked after moonshine but got locked when upgrading to 4.2.2, but not sure).
would need some help here. how can i unlock my device again? can i do it without htc.dev and without deleting all user data.
i searched threads in general section but couldn't find my answers, i appologise if i overlooked something.
ps - also, is my hboot 2.00 ok for the latest TWRP?

Here is the guide you are searching for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541843
Go a bit down to "- To unlock"
And yes, you need to be unlocked to flash recovery.

HBOOT updated but nothing else?

I'm relatively new to messing with android, so please cut me some slack if I get some of the terminology wrong.
First thing's first, details about my phone:
HTC One X (AT&T)
Android Version: 4.0.3
Kernel: 3.0.8-01111-g188cf26
Baseband: 0.16.32.09.01_3_10.79.32.08L
CID: 11111111
Rooted?: I'm not even sure anymore. It was at one point.
Steps I took:
When I first had the idea to root/unlock bootloader my HBOOT was at 0.19
I took the steps required to unlock bootloader and obtain unlock code from HTC dev, bootloader unlocked successfully.
I downloaded the nightly I wanted to use of clockworkmod (cm-10.1-20130725-NIGHTLY-evita.zip) and put it on the phone's internal storage.
I flashed this recovery image: recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.3.1-evita.img - i was able to boot to it.
I then proceeded to wipe user data/factory reset (through clockwork recovery) after the wipe completed i selected install zip from SD card and pointed to the nightly zip I had moved to internal storage.
The output read:
-- Installing: /sdcard/Download/cm-10.1-20130725-NIGHTLY-evita.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing Update...
assert failed: getprop("ro.bootloader") == "2.14.000"
E: Error in /sdcard/Download/cm-10.1-20130725-NIGHTLY-evita.zip
(Status 7)
Installation Aborted
At this point I just assumed my bootloader was too out of date (it was the first version released with the phone itself)
Next, I downloaded an RUU i found on the internet for my phone (RUU_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_Cingular_US_3.18.502.6_Radio_0.24p.32.09.06_10.130.32.34_release_signed.exe) - I think this was my first mistake.
After running this update I loaded into the bootloader and noticed that nothing worked, after reading around on xda I saw a post where someone mentioned you have to have your bootloader relocked to run an RUU - so okay, I relocked my bootloader and proceeded to run the RUU again, it failed with "unknown error" but once I went back into bootloader I noticed HBOOT was no longer version 0.19, it is now 2.14.000. I now attempted to unlock my bootloader, i go through the steps and it seems that it works but when i check the bootloader it shows ***RELOCKED*** still.
Then I found JET, thankfully I have a linux machine I work with. I followed the steps, expected the command - my bootloader now also read *** Security Warning *** now at this point I was unable to boot back into recovery and I'm scared and more mistakes on my end may end in a bricked phone.
tldr:
I screwed something up i need help. my goal: s-off, unlocked bootloader, latest yummiest clockwork rom.
Thanks ahead of time - i know its a bit of a read but I am at my whits end here, have spent 10+ hours trying to fix it myself.
Wait... So you ran the 3.18 ruu with 1.09 hboot and s-on and super CID? That usually bricks.... Now, since you still have superCID you should be able to to just unlock through HTC dev. Keep trying, sometimes it doesn't stick.

After running JET I can't get my bootloader unlock to stick - its stuck at relocked, I've tried a few times now.
EDIT: Ah, ha! you were right, I did it once more and now it is showing as unlocked.
My question though, is what steps should I take next? My phone is not rooted as far as I know and all the tools to root your phone are for 2.x+ only. (as far as i know)

[Q]Bootloader downgrade?flashing firmware(FAILED (remote: 99 unknown fail)),MaximusHD

Hello,
I get an Error when i try to flash the firmware.zip for MaximusHD
Code:
sending 'zip' (36985 KB)...
OKAY [ 2.699s]
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) zip header checking.
(bootloader) zip info parsing...
FAILED (remote: 99 unknown fail)
finished. total time: 8.146s
I figured out it may relyto my bootloader.
I'm currently on HBoot 1.14.0002,so i guess its bootloader 2.31
S-ON and unlocked
I read it worked on 2.16, so how do i downgrade.
I really dont want to mess up my bootloader, so i better ask for some advice here
I found this Thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1990043
But i'm not sure if i took the JB OTA(Had an JB based Rom before)
You gotta be s-off and unlocked and do the commands one by one in command promt. First time it will give u an error...re-do the command right away and it should work.
Also as an advise read the instruction carefully at least 3 times so u undestand what u doing.
So i have to follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155135
Read it before, but couldn't figure out if it will help me.
Thanks so far.
Try this one.

And don't worry about bricking the phone, it's almost imposible. As long as you can go into bootloader you can bring it back to life. I've done it many times.
Also I'm using unknown 2.0 becuase maximus 10 gave me too many problems. I recomend you to use the same as me is basically the same.
Well already got superCID and did everything the guide told me.
Was a bit confused about SuperCID since it didnt sayed CW_001 or something similar.
Could now flash the firmware.zip.
Only messed up my sdcard but i saw that one coming
Thank you very much!

Hi Jenenser, I'm on Maximus, Hboot 2.16, s-off, unlocked. I'm trying to get back to Unknown 2.0 because I find Maximus to be too buggy as well. I can't seem to flash anything from fastboot (not recovery, not firmware, can't run RUU, nothing seems to take). How did you get back to Unknown?
Thanks!
Go back to complete stock or RUU than repeat the while unlocking process again.
Unlock bootloader, root the phone, install recovery and then from twrp recover install ROM.

[Q] Softbrick?

Hey guys!
so, i just wanted to get my HOS back to jellybean stock to get the latest HBoot and now have a big problem. I am S-On and had a O2 branded HOS, changed the CID to 11111111, relocked the bootloader to run the RUU, but now i am stock in the bootloader. My phone is Relocked as i said, S-On, fastboot USB works, but i cant boot to recovery, nor in my rom. i am also not allowed to unlock the bootloader or flash anything else, because i always get this error: " failed (remote signature verify fail)"
would be very nice if someone could help me..

[Q] K2_UL not rooted after update to 4.2.2

Hello guys!
My story is short I had rooted and unlocked bootloader on Android 4.1.2. Then i want to update, so i get moonshine s-off, downgraded hboot, ran RUU and installed updates. Now i have 4.2.2 and sense 5 of course. And now is my problem. I don't have root! What should I do? I tried to flash twrp recovery by fastboot but i getting always the same failure:
FAILED (remote: not allowed). Every thoughts about it?
When you RUUed you had to relock your Bootloader
Unlock your bootloader again then either boot twrp recovery or flash it
Then flash root again

I unlocked bootloader (by htcdev of course), then i flashed superuser. Should working fine, but Titanium Backup told me that don't have root rights...
PS. Of course, after unlock i flashed TWRP
PPS. Problem solved, just flashed SuperSU instead of superuser Big thanks!

Problem with unlocking bootloader after S-Off Pyramid

Hi,
I have little problem... I unlocked bootloader by HTCdev, S-offed by JuopunutBear 0.5b (with wire-trick) and install unbranded firmware RUU 3.32.401.5. Now I'd like to flash CWM recovery, but I receieve an error "writing 'recovery'... failed (remote: not allowed)"... I also tried to flash it by KGS Utility v8 and this didn't work for me. Can I unlock bootloader again by bin file generated by HTCdev? Somewhere who wrote that it possible to brick the phone, but few people did it and nothing happened. What can I do? Any ideas?

actually why did you use a ruu.exe for flashing a custom recovery?
it was an unecessary step
nevermind
if you still are on S-OFF flash 3.33 iniversal from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
follow the instructions to the letter
and before flashing check md5 sums(important)
then you can install a custom recovery
another way is to install 4ext updater(link in my signature)
from the app download and install the latest version of 4ext recovery
edit: just to know when you are locked or relocked you are limited to some fastboot commands
I was flashed RUU because I wanted to delete Orange PL brand. Yep, I'm still on S-Off.
Can I flash by fastboot "PG58IMG 3.32 unlocked.zip" file (~14MB) to my firmware what I have now? It may unlock bootloader?

probably you can use it via fastboot command
but it would better to flash it directly from bootloader
I updated FW (PG58IMG.zip unlocked) via Bootloader, flashed CWM via fastboot tools and it works!
@rzr86, Thanks for advices. :good:
