You get given £1000, what device do you buy? - General Topics

Imagine you've been given £1000 to go out and buy a new device or devices. What do you buy? Can be anything from Android phone to 2nd hand macbook.

One plus One and Note 4

Wanting to switch my galaxy nexus for a note 2

It just hit me today, that I want to get a Note 2. Im wanting a bigger device and for awhile I've been wanting the DNA and also am waiting what the M7 has to offer. But i know that will only be a 4.7 in screen. I still don't know 100% yet. But the Note 2 looks sweet and I've heard great things about it. So anyone that had the galaxy nexus that made the switch happy with their choice? Its hard to leave a device that gets updates quite often but I can always root the note so just curious what people here think

Yes. Use either ExynosAbuse or CF Autoroot.
Exynos Abuse is about as simple as you can get

I switched from the Nexus to the Note 2 about 3 weeks ago and I have to say I loving it. I liked the Nexus, but the Note 2 is better in every way. Love the screen, awesome battery life, easy to root and unlock, pretty good development. I can't think of a negative right now.

Ya sometimes I wonder if there are just so many different things that you can do with the note 2 I wouldn't know what to do with it Haha. But yes, a big battery and an SD card is a plus for me. I'm a very heavy user on my device and it would be nice to have one last me all day without a charge.

Neither. Go for a nexus phone. Nexus s/galaxy nexus/nexus 4.
Bought Galaxy Nexus a year ago for the same purpose, worked like a charm for me. I would suggest to go with Nexus too. There are very popular and hacker friendly.
Strictly for hacking/dev-ing, the Nexus 4/Galaxy Nexus. For hacking/dev-ing while retaining a lot of common features (removable battery, expandable storage), Galaxy S3 or Note 2.
Thats right. Nexus is best

Reading & comprehension appear to be mutually exclusive around these parts. I've never heard of a Samsung duos so I'm taking a gander that the OP means an "S" class Samsung with duo (sic) cores.

I think the Galaxy Nexus/Nexus 4 is the best choice, because you get always the newest updates.
When ubuntu phone is released, you can also develop for ubuntu phone.

i would also rather go for a nexus device instead of the 2 other devices, there are plenty of documentations and drivers for them and you can also run ubuntu on it. perfect for hacking around.
The google phones are the path of least resistance for hacking. They make things easier than 3rd parties who don't care about users who want to unlock or root their phones.

In that case, Nexus 4 and Note 2, or if price is an issue, Galaxy S3.

I'm upgrading next month

Its been 2 years since I had my nexus. It was a great device and didnt really feel dated to me until this year. I already have my iPhone 5, so I guessim going to use this upgrade for a galaxy note 2. But my question is, what do you think would be the best successor to this device? I'm not sure if I'll even hack at this point anymore because my house now has WiFi and using my cell as a hotspot was main point.

Nexus 4, the 16gb version, it's less expensive and has better suport. The one looks cool now but vhen the s4 comes it vill just ne another htc, whereas the nexus is still The Nexus!

i guess the N4 comments are from people that didn't read he has SPRINT!!! Note2 seems to be the popular one of course... send me a PM, when you're ready to upgrade... i might have a hookup for ya
Got nexus4, note 2 , galaxy tab 2 7.0, 10.0 and note 10.1, tf300t , nexus 7 and GS 2.
I say go with note 2, small enough to fit into or pocket, not bulky to play games on it, closer to handheld console than large tabs, not too small. I love the spen.
Bottom line. If I could take only one device. Note 2 would let do all that I would wanna do in both phones and tablets.
