I am testing out a 1800mAh battery for my Epic 4G and will report the results.
I just got this in from a friend overseas and I am fully charging it now.
The battery does NOT require a separate cover, so this is nice. I'll let you know how the battery performs as soon as I can.
Right now I am using the Syndicate ROM along with Vision Kernel v1.1
I usually have my phone clocked at Ondemand with SetCpu with a max of 1300 and min of 200.
I also have profiles set for when the screen is off at 200min and 400 max. My brightness is down about 1/4. I have K9 mail poll every 30min and Plume twitter client poll every hour. Missed reminder usually runs along with MSNBCs air mail to pull any breaking news, and I am running Zeam Launcher.
On a full charge with the stock battery I can get between 19 and 30hrs depending on what I do. The 30hrs I can usually achieve with not much activity and the phone will usually be around 14% at the 30hrs. I do leave my phones data on all the time, so that is without turning the power off at night.
Anyway, that's just a little info on my configuration.
Will report new 1800mAh battery in the next day or so, or as I go along throughout the day.

When you are done testing the battery can you provide a picture of it or maybe take a picture of the battery in the phone. Thanks.
So here are my pictures from my battery usage for the 1800mAh battery. Again, the phone is running the apps listed in the OP and The usage will consist of checking tweets, texting and a few market update checks.
If you are looking for a battery like this one, I can probably get them for you at around $15 a battery. This all depends on how many people want them. While you're not going to get 50 or 80hrs out of it, I can say that i've gotten a few more hours out of it than the stock 1500mAh. In fact I have never hit a 40hrs PERIOD until I put this battery in. Now you may get more or less than I did depending on your usage, how often you text, internet usage, or running programs that check for emails, tweets, etc.
The 40hrs too are with the phone on ALL OF THE TIME. By this I mean I don't turn it off at night when I go to bed.
Let me know if you have any questions.

I'll post a pic later today. When I pulled the battery to take a pic I had to factory reset the whole phone (cause when I put the standard one back in I got FC all over). So it'll be tonight until I can get my camera to try and take a pic.
I guarantee you though that it is a 1800mAh battery.

FC close from swapping batteries? Ouch! I hope that was just a glitch, as I never plug in the power cord to charge anymore - I mean hardly ever - as I only replace my batteries approximately once a day and rotate between 4 OEM Samsung batteries.
It doesn't seem to have a charging system like my old PalmOS Treo
But I would be interested in one if swapping between the stock battery and the 1800mah one didn't play havoc on the phone and FC or screw up the battery metering system.
Thanks for your info - please keep us informed!
Which 1800mah battery is it? Do you have a link? I'd love to try them out if you're getting positive results.
Mabey it this one?

Yeah I checked out ebay, but there are a couple there.. and those Chinese batteries are notorious for being fake. If he said he's seeing better battery life I want the EXACT battery he got.
I actually did get one of those Chinese batteries. Didn't get it off of ebay though.I was skeptical at first but I thought.... Not like i'm paying $35 or anything, so it's worth a shot. But yes, like the pic.
Fits perfect, and have been using it for a few days.
@mouseglider... I was going to take a pic of the battery as requested, and that's when I realized that the digital camera wasn't working well for that, so I was like... I'll just pop the OEM back in and snap it. I didn't shut down properly and yeah, FCs. My fault probably.
I did have a backup from clockwork so it was all good. It did take a bit to restore because I didn't have a backup since the 17th, but all is well now and back to normal.
The only odd thing I noticed with the battery is that when I put the battery in, booted for the first time I had no data and it was on airplane mode. Found that odd, but I just turned airplane mode off rebooted and then it was all fine.
So far I have noticed nothing else besides that glitch and the FC glitch, but again I just yanked it then went... CRAP, i'm prob going to get FCs.
For the most part I seem to get 2-3hrs more on this battery. The test I did with the 40hrs was a basic light usage test. Not much internet usage or phone calls.
I will be testing it though with a longer twitter update, longer email poll, and no MSNBC background update nor Pulse news reader every 12hrs.
We'll see how that works. I just changed the email push to 1hr instead of 30min and Plume twitter update from 1hr to 2hr and disabled airmail for MSNBC.
Osama Bin Laden is dead and that was the most important notification.
Hey can you post a way for us to get it. Need to replace mine thanks.

Wow that took some cahones for the one who tried the chinese batteries lol.
Wasnt there a huge thing about chinese knock off batteries exploding!
but 40 hours is pretty good for and for 15$
I know right? Took some cahones. Anyway the battery seems to be ok. I haven't had it get real hot, get all weird on me or anything. Not only that, the Samsung battery says assembled in Korea, so I assume everything is going to be overseas.
As far as the link goes, I don't have one because I got it from a friend from china who does business over there with that type of stuff. I told him I was looking for a battery and he pointed me to this and I got it sent to me.
I can order a bunch from him, but i'd need to know how many because it does take about a week and a half to get them sent. This way I can have him get 5, 10, or whatever and I don't have to keep getting 1 here, 2 here, etc. Unfortunately shipping from China is not quick.
I there is a high enough interest i'll get them & anyone that wants one can let me know and you can pay by paypal once I get enough people wanting one to make it worth the shipping. Once I receive them I can get them to you for $17 which includes shipping as long as you are in the US.

I have bought 4 of those China batteries - 2 for my Moment and 2 for my Epic and had one of each lasted only 2 hours so I tossed them and the other one of each lasted for about 4 hours each - I actually did not buy them for the batteries, but bought them so I could get the chargers that they came with - so for me it was really no loss as they were really cheap - $6'ish dollars for one battery and charger - love the chargers!
I just use the standard stock Samsung batteries and simply rotate them - it works best for me and stays at 100% in the phone for at least 30 to 45min depending on light use - unlike when I charge them in the phone, and when I unplug them they always drop immediately to 96% to 98% even when I try to bump charge which is a pain in the butt and never works.
External AC chargers are the BEST!
Hmm,
I run less data update programs than the OP with a stock battery, Syndicate ROM, WIFI, Bluetooth, setCPU at OnDemand 1300/100, and Fancy Widget Pro (updates once/hour) all running 24/7.
I typically get anywhere from 24-48 hours of battery life. 48 hours has been achieved with mild web browsing, one 15 minute Google Nav trip, some emulator gaming, and various android games. I'd liken it to a medium total usage.
I had about 2% battery remaining by that 48 hour point.
If I turn off bluetooth and Fancy Widget Pro, but leave WIFI on, I can expect to have 70%+ battery left after 18 hours of use.
I'm not sure why it lasts this long, but I love it.
Thanks for trying out those chinese batteries.

However, this thread, says that all chinese batteries are inferior to the OEM samsung battery. But its a good backup battery for cheap, neverthless.
How many accounts do you have syncing? Brightness level? I copy many setups people have on these forums and the most i have seen in battery life is 18hrs using seidio 3000 mah battery. Stock most seen when it was new, about 12 hrs. What Apps can i use to monitor application usage?

As far as the previous poster, it seems as if they get a good deal of juice. I think it'll vary, but nothing should be THAT drastic I don't believe.
Yours seems to be drastic, or at least from even what i've seen from my set up. Right now I checked the phone, (it was on all night last night) and I have 71% left and unplugged at 12hrs...pushing 13. Now that is with the 1800mAh battery.
Again, ones internet surfing, phone calls and all of that makes a difference. I can say that with a few phone calls it'll drop and with surfing the net. But if you are running a 3000mAh battery and only getting 18hrs, you must have that thing running lots. I could see that usage with Facebook on, weather updates every hour, email every 15min, twitter updates all the time, etc etc.
What type of setup are you running?
Two gmail.com stock settings, facebook only contacts I have. No twitter.
Fancy widgets weather.
Brightness level down to bottom.
Calendar contacts mail on one gmail.com and only mail on the other.
How would you change how often gmail checks mail? I see no settings for it.
Still 30hrs even more 40 is exaggerated.

I had read your blog and find it good advice. They are same as what I did. I would like to contribute some points:
When there is low signal, the phone increases it transmitting power to try establish a link with the cellular base station, and this will cause extra battery drain. So the advice is to place your phone where there is good network signal. Usually network signal is lesser when:
immediately near a wall or corner of a room
kept in an enclosed place such as a drawer, or in a bag
kept in your trouser pocket and you are sitting at a table with the phone under the table
kept in your trouser pocket and you are sitting and have a bag (or other stuff) resting on your leg over the phone
Avoid putting the phone on warm surfaces. Battery drains quicker in warmer environment.
With Android 4.2 and later versions, wireless is really energy efficient. Same day, almost same using conditions, wireless use %30-40 less battery.
I have a SM-N915K with OEM flip case. Battery life is incredibly low due to "Cocktailbar service" service eating 30-70% of the battery. The service listens to sensors and rotates the content of the edge screen probably. Anyone has the same problem? The problem can be related to the flip case use.
Cocktailbar Note Edge
I have the same issue... I figured it had something to do with the edge display but didn't tie it to the case... I'm going G to replace the back with the original battery door and see if that make difference. I'll post results tomorrow.
I use the flip case when I'm out but when I'm at home I use the regular back. The cocktailbarservice seems to be succking the life out of my battery. Went to bed at 95% and woke up at 68% while the phone sat idle. It is now 9:42 am and I have used the phone very little. I am at 37%. I love this phone but at this rate I can't even use it so I might have to return it if I can't find a fix. I'm lucky and have access to power supply most the time but this is ridiculous.
I did stop using the case for the weekend and the battery life on my phone has almost trippled! I took it off charge around 8 pm last night. Played with it intermittently until 2:30 am. Got up this morning around 9 am and still had 88% battery. Have been using it almost nonstop between calls, Internet and texts and am just now at 20%. 18.5 hours off the charger and only 6.5 of those were sleep time. If I can have this kind of battery on most days I will be happy. I am not running powersave during any of that time either. And since taking off the case, cocktailbarservice is not draining the battery. Unfortunately I have to have it in a case when in my purse, and I have two of them so I will be using the case most business days. Does anyone think it will mess up my battery to have it drain so much when using the case and then slow down drainage when I take the case off? I don't want to ruin my battery.
it was the Case
Yeah I had the same results. It definitely was the case for me too.... I have to wait till the come out with a holster or something cause I hate walking around with a naked phone.... Especially one that's $1k.....
Turning off the 'Style clock on edge screen' or limiting its duration (Edge screen > Information stream > 15 seconds) has helped my battery life. I don't think the issue is the flip case as much as it is the graphics that play on the edge screen every time the flip case is closed.

I bought a black one here (US) at the T-Mobile store but I bought a white one for the same $38 with free shipping off of EBay. It came from Korea but it is an OEM case. This is a different seller but you could check out this link. http://www.ebay.com/itm/381075447098?redirect=mobile
guys I have question
On your OEM flip cover, when you enable the style clock does it show the right time when the phone time settings is set at AM/PM mode?
On my style clock the minutes hand shows correctly but the hour hand shows "0". I have tired all the style clock themes and all show this but when i change my phone's time settings to 24 hour clock it displays correctly...!!
Any help with this will be highly appricated
I never had this problem once I fix the cover and set the app it automatically set the right time...

Strange why is it happening for me?
I have installed the case reboot the phone as well and for some reason the style clock hour hand shows "0" while the minutes hand is correct...
Is there some defect in my case maybe?? i dont think so since all other elements like screen auto off and the incoming call coming on the edge is all well ...

Do you mean on the edge panel? If it is 6:15 it will show 06:15. Does yours show 00:15? If so I would say the phone has a defect or maybe needs to be factory reset. Sorry if I am not understanding you correctly. Mine works as it should.

Instead of showing 06:15 it shows 0:15... Maybe I should do a factory reset.
BTW my 915G is rooted on stock firmware.

If that doesn't work you could try to exchange the phone. That seems to be a phone issue not related to the case.
I have noticed that when I use the flip wallet case, the battery life is far less then when I use the standard cover. The difference is even more noticeable since the 5.0.1 update. Is there any logical explanation for this, or am I losing my mind?
I've noticed that the exposed edge and its functions are displayed at full brightness when activated. If I had to hazard a guess, it would be that the way you're putting it in your pocket is hitting the power button a little too often - thus turning on that part of the display and eating battery. But I've got the same case and haven't noticed any issues with battery life.
I am having no battery issues whatsoever with and without flip. Both ways it goes for a day with heavy use.

Me too.. I can confirm this!
With the original flip wallet, the battery life feels like only half the time
After reading some posts across the internet, i found out, there is a software service called "cocktail-service" active. This software take care of the side panel activity by flipping the wallet (to automatically turn on/off and so on).. It seems this software cause the fast discharging.. But till now no real solution.. i swapped back to the original cover... but it helps a little bit, to disable the side panel software :-/ -> but no way to go for me
Ok this is the silliest thing i have ever came across
When i first bought my phone i purchased a 360 case
Its not a good case but its the only one available in my country for the time being
I have noticed that my battery life was terrible specially in idle mode and when reviewed my usage on the stock android battery monitor i couldnt see what is draining my battery . I downloaded the gsam monitor and i saw that phone radio was responsible for 60-70 % of my drain . Although my signal was pretty stable(as i have several other smartphones)and i was at home the whole time . Also what was interesting is that My phone radio usage was on the same level if not higher than the screen usage if both had the same time on
I googled some more and found out nothing about these issues specifically but overall alot of users were having the same battery life as me while others get a much better battery life. I decided to live with the 5 to 6 hours of SOT that mostly everyone was happy with . Although the reviews state otherwise
Today i decided to enjoy the aesthetics of my phone without the casing . I have noticed a massive change in my idle and awake battery life and my phone radio usage has dropped to a merely insignificant value. All of this ofcourse i have been at home with the same coverage as usuall .
I am currently at 87% with 1 hour and 40mins of screen on time
If u complain about ur battery life try ur phone without the case and tell me what u think
I am now on 60% with 3 hours and 57 mins of SOT which is mainly wifi web browsing and 20 mins of video recording and idle drain is almost non existent in this 12 hour period
Does that case have any metal in it?
interesting
Can you post your screen-shots of the same?
WiFi will always use less battery than cell radio as well. Were you on WiFi before or just today?
Yes i always use wifi at home. Cant seem to put links in my post since i have less than 10 posts and i know mobile data uses more power than wifi but it should be like 20% more maximum but frankly i am getting more than double the battery life now . I also use the same charger same cable and same power outlet . The only difference is the case
I now have 5 hours and 20 mins of SOT with 44% left of my battery
The case doesnt have any metal its completeley from rubber and hard plastic . i dont know how does it interfere with my phone radio usage maybe the antennas on the bezzel dont perform ideally when there is somthing hard pressing against it
U can see from the average per complete charge the max that i ever was able to get before is at 4:56
Very strange indeed. I have a hybrid case on mine (black TPU bumper with a clear hard plastic back) and I'm actually getting better signal than I did with my Pixel XL and great battery life. Currently and hour and forty-one minutes screen time and have 79% battery remaining. Most of that drain occurred at the gym where the signal is pretty weak. My wife's S8+ has the same case and she hasn't had any battery problems either.
---------- Post added at 12:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:46 PM ----------
You should compare your cell and WiFi strength with the case on and the case off. Check the dBms, not the bars. Bars lie. Use an app like Signal Checker.
This is without case an phone is layed flat on a non conductive surface
temporary image host
With case with same conditions
free image hosting gallery
There is a difference but not a huge one i suppose . I should test it on a time scale bigger than that i guess
Someone i googled says things in the context that a 4 dbm difference is big thing for emaple a 6 db difference may indicate that the signal is 4 times weaker
Yeah, but mine will fluctuate by a couple dBms just holding it still in my hand. Sometimes moving it from one side of the table to the other. I'd be more concerned by a difference of 10-15 dBms. I don't think that small of a fluctuation would affect your battery that much. I may end wrong I'm no expert by any means.
You are correct the difference is not that big but definitely the drain is related to phone radio usage as it was shown in my previous stats sadly i dont have a screenshot for it
Will do further testing on mobile data and no wifi at home without the cover
The thing is with a phone case for the s8
if u drop it your totalled, but my lifeproof case..... 100% worth it. Dropped it like a million times, no scratches or damage in that sense.
But i have had issues with reception and cell quality w the case. It drives me insane!!
