thats because the S4 and the note 3 have the new Knox protection, pretty much a new bootloader so new way to root. there will most likely be no one click root for them, you should search with whatever model number you have for root.
Thanks well this knox protection is very tight and not that easy to root. But still trying to find the way of root

Hi all. I'm new to this. I'm looking for a fool proof way to root my hero. Not sure if it has been rooted before since I bought it used. I would like to know the best and easier root method out there plus the easiest way to load roms.

It has not been activated yet. Does it have to be activated to root it? This is my first official post here as well.

I still have months to go before I can upgrade, but, unless Samsung come out with something mind blowing before then I'll be looking at other possibilities. particularly a Google flagship!
My question is this - I use Odin to root a Samsung. It's very straight forward to do. In comparison how difficult\different is it to root a nexus?

Nexus device are as easy to root, just like samsung devices. Although, now that they have Nox(security) I don't know how easy it will be in the future..

Thanks mate. Yeah I read is using selinux secure mode now. Will be interesting.
Try thanking you but the XDA app is playing up and I'm on a bus so can't get to a PC.

It's extremely easy. I don't normally recommend using a tool kit and prefer the old fashion way. It's already so simple as it is. Install drivers, fastboot oem unlock.
Done. Samsung Odin is equivalent to fastboot but better and less buggy than Odin.

I feel like this won't be much issue. People buy a Nexus because it's open and you can play with stuff. I feel like too many people would be pissed at google if this actually had any real affect on things.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
Yeah it's as easy as 3 or 4 commands in fastboot.
OEM unlock
flash recovery
flash ROM / kernel
Done.

Search.
There is a root thread.
My sister bought a michley 900 used from BrandsMart not too long ago and she tried to install Constant Guard from comcast and it won't allow saying it's rooted. I've not rooted it nor has my nephew and they aren't versed enough.
I've found no root method online. There isn't a super user app installed and I've run a root checker and a have fx file explorer with root add on installed and can edit at the root level.
Could it be that this tablet isn't locked down? Any ideas?
So no one has any info? Wrong thread? A slight push I the right direction?

Try framaroot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276
If that doesn't work then try the tool in my signature.
It comes with a root command.
most of the time with these generic tablets they come prerooted, i dont think you can remove it (unless you know what your doing) but if you want to take ahold of it download superSU or Superuser from the martket.
It's rooted already. I'm trying to figure out how.

like i said just install superSU or Superuser from the play store.
Our posts came in seconds apart. I have since installed SuperSU. She was trying to install some security suite apps available through her Internet provider and it wouldn't let her due to it being rooted.

like i said i dont think theres a way to unbrick it on generic tablets, i think you can try to unroot via superSU or Superuser, one of them has the option i think and you might be able to find a apk for security suite that gets rid of the root checker or whatever its doing.
I'm wanting to root my Nexus 5... But if I root, can I update... Or do I need to be unrooted?... I've only rooted one device before... I'm fine with the root method for the Nexus 5, but a little unsure of the unroot method... Can I update my Nexus 5 while it's rooted?...

By updating you mean OTA, right?
There is thread going on for this:

Didn't really need to link to it. It's a sticky thread stuck at the top of this general forum along with all the other important threads

I'd do some research on what the next update could do to root b4 you update. Google are not trying to make root impossible but they want android far more secure. Chainfire wrote on this, and it's implications, which are not minor

If you just have root and you did not modify any files in /system then you will be able to update with root, but you will lose root if you do so.
I've been desperately looking for a convenient root method for my Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-i337 version 5.0.1 but I've been unsuccessful. Every post I look for either involves a method with an older Android version or other model number. It's pretty frustating, It's my third day of intensive research and nothing has come up! The nearest post I found was pretty much the same version and model but the model had an "M" in the end of the model name (SGH-i337M) but is not possible due to that minor detail. Please Help!:crying:

You may have to unlock the bootloader before trying to root. For this model bootloader may be locked or unlocked depending upon the operator. Bootloader unlock process may wipe out your data so back up first.
