[Q] Block OTA? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Now that we have root and s = off, what files do we need to rename/delete/freeze/otherwise mangle to prevent an OTA update from locking the phone down permanently like Samsung/Verizon/Google did with the Galaxy S3 and S4?
If they're the same files as the Samsung phones, I sure can't find 'em on my M8!

[Completed] [Q] Tmobile Galaxy S5 root without triggering knox, warranty, lollipop questions

Going to cut it as short as I can, and I'll probably sound like a noob and annoying at the same time. Can I root my Galaxy S5 T-Mobile 4.4.2 G900TUVU1CNK2 without triggering knox? I don't want to touch anything (no rom or loader or anything) - I just want it to be rooted so I have some access.
If that can't be done, can I root and yet still send back to T-Mobile as a warranty replacement without them charging me?
If I were to root, can I still use the OTA upgrade from Lollipop once it comes out or does it have to be done a different way?

Root VZN S6 before activation?

Hello all,
I just got 2 new S6 Edges on contract with VZN through BB. Before doing anything, I removed the SIM and fired them up to check the OS version. It shows 5.0.2 (AOE2). I see there is a VERY easy root for it (Ping Pong). They are now sitting in the box, ready for activation.
But I have some questions:
1) I read in a few places that the OTAs that replace 5.0.2 fixed some sort of bad bug / security issue, but it also prevents you from rooting it as well. Is that true?
2) What exactly was (were) the issue(s) and can I still root 5.0.2 AND then fix them outside of VZN OT (e.g., other downloads from Samsung directly)?
3) If I root at 5.0.2, is there a way to preserve it, then OTA up to a newer OS (did this on my S5)? Or am I stuck with 5.0.2 forever if I want to keep root?
4) If I root, can I still get Samsung Pay to work, or will that now fail?
5) I read Ping Pong does not trip Knox. Is that really true?
6) Lastly, if I root, is it still easy to unroot the S6 (remove a few files and reboot)?
Thanks for any help and suggestions. Just a FYI, I root to make minor tweaks, not to load custom ROMs.

Want to enable multi-users on Samsung S4 but can't root phone

Hi!
I want to enable the multi-users functionality on my Samsung Galaxy S4. It runs Android version 5.0.1, so it shouldn't be a problem, but I need to root my phone in order to edit my build.prop file.
Problem is, I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 sgh-m1919v, which is a phone from Videotron in Quebec, Canada.
I've tried Kingroot and Towelroot, but neither will support this phone.
Another common way to root an android phone seems to be by using Odin and going into download mode, but since this exact phone isn't on the list of "approved" devices, I am reluctant to try it... I really don't want to break it.
I've checked on this forum and haven't found an answer to my problem yet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
TL;DR: Need help rooting Samsung S4 SGH-M1919V

Root & encryption?

So I recently got the Galaxy s6. I had a note 3 prior to this, it was rooted but I could never get it to encrypt while being rooted. So this time I decided to encrypt my phone before rooting it, I still haven't tried rooting it I'm fear of the encryption bricking my phone. Can someone put my mind to ease that it would? I been searching on Google and couldn't find anything. Also, if that is the case, how do I encrypt a phone after I root it?
Edit: another question I can't find a straight answer to, what exactly does Knox do? I can't seem to find the Knox app on my s6 like I did with my note 3. I checked on the s6 and Knox hasn't been tripped
I don't know about the root/encryption thing.
But there's two things KNOX does.
One it is used for enterprise purposes where you can store confidential data on a KNOX encrypted partition.
Two, it is the detecting mechanism that checks wether your phone has been rooted/unlocked.
You can't find the app because you need to download it from the Play Store on the S6 and newer Samsung devices.
@MikeChannon, thread is dead. Lock it up.

How to block new Samsung Galaxy S9 w/Oreo from receiving OTA update to Android Pie

Hi,
I have a new-in-the-box Samsung Galaxy S9 that I want to prevent from receiving the OTA auto-update to Android Pie. I thought I might be able to root it before connecting to my carrier's network (Tmobile) or the Internet. However, after reading some posts here, it's my understanding that my model (SM-G960U) cannot be rooted because the bootloader cannot be unlocked.
So, does anyone have any suggestions for me on how to avoid getting Pie'd? I do not want to lose some of the features that are present in Oreo that have been removed. In talking to Samsung and Tmobile I was told that the Pie update would be automatically pushed once the phone is connected to the network, and even if I ignore the incessant nag Update notifications, eventually the update will install itself anyway. I am hoping there is some way I can block this update from happening, but I am a total noob to this so any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Blocking updates indefinitely is usually device specific.
Whatever methods are available to you can be found with a search for how to block updates on your specific model number. If searches using your model number aren't revealing anything, you'll more than likely have to dig your way through it yourself.
It will more than likely require rooted the device. You'll have to try finding a way to root the device without unlocking bootloader or flashing TWRP and Magisk.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I did try searching for my model number and blocking updates, and found nothing other than my post now. And I can confirm that changing Auto Update settings on my phone has no effect. The phone I am typing this on was upgraded to Pie in spite of these settings.
I have also been unable to find instructions for rooting my phone. If anyone knows of a way to root my Samsung S9 model number SM-G960U please let me know. Or if you know of a 3rd party app or other method that will prevent Pie from being installed on my phone I will greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
