[Q] Still need Weaksauce after S Off? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Do I need to keep WeakSauce installed, after S Off?

No. You need to uninstall it along with SU, then flash Supersu.zip in your recovery.

Ok....I'm new to HTC, so I apologize for what may be stupid questions... I can certainly uninstall WeakSauce and SU, but installing Supersu.zip....first off, where do I get this file? Second, I enter recovery by holding down "volume down" while powering on the device, correct?

Do a Google search for chainfire supersu. Goto the xda thread and look for the flashable zip. And yes power vol down

it was in the above how to..
"Move the supersu zip onto your internal sdcard. It can be downloaded here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1538053
You can use Superuser as well. Its your preference, but this guide uses SuperSU.
Uninstall weaksauce. It's no longer needed.
Uninstall SuperSU. It will be reinstalled when you flash the supersu zip. If you have SuperSU Pro installed, you can leave that in place, as that app only holds a key.
From adb, type:
adb reboot bootloader
Flash a custom recovery. Currently, only CWM recovery is available. Follow the directions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2708520
Reboot into Recovery
Flash the supersu zip you downloaded.
Reboot and you're done. You have s-off and permanent root.
You can delete the downloaded supersu zip off your internal sdcard; its not longer needed."

Getting Super User to work.

I have went thru the 'one click process' with what I thought was success. Now I can't seem to get SU permissions. I have read a few threads but I just can't figure out how to flash theSU fix.
A bit of help would be awesome.

You need to flash the su fix with clockwork recovery. So reboot to recovery, hold volume down + power buttons, volume down to "recovery" once there go to "install zip from sd card" navigate to the su fix and hit the power button, volume down to yes, press power button, let it do its thing, when done use back arrow til you get to reboot system, push power and it will reboot and once booted you should be good to go.

You don't have full root access if you didn't flash a custom recovery.
Did you use Captainkrtek's one click?

Not true at all. Root has nothing do with recovery, except for the fact that you need root to flash a custom recovery. You can be properly rooted and run stock recovery all day long. I am assuming the OP is having issues flashing a new recovery, because rom manager isn't being granted su by the superuser app. Is this accurate?
I would really suggest doing it the long way as you will benefit from it in the long run. All you really need to know is how to use adb. Have a look here for that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010

Whoops your right, I just think of that as part of full root. But if he has root why won't su work properly? That doesn't make sense...
Sent from my Thunderbolt using XDA Premium App
I had issues after I rooted getting the superuser app to grant privileges to Rom Manager. I couldn't flash clockwork recovery because superuser just wasn't popping up asking for permission. I have no idea why. Tried rebooting a few times as was suggested in the root/s-off guide, to no avail. I finally got it to pop up by just clicking around inside the rom manager app. Can't remember exactly what I pressed, but all of a sudden it popped up, and after I clicked yes, I could flash clockwork recovery no problem.

It's because Su the application, and being able to Su to root, are technically different things. Su the app needs a patch to work on TB.

I was able to unlock, using HTC unlock-er, pardon the ignorance but what are the first steps I need to take to start installing ROMS? I have searched the compendium but that's for people who are S-off. I would love to learn the ins and outs of rooting but it's confusing. I installed
CWR but if I try to do anything it throws up errors, and I'm not entirely sure how to get to recovery let alone flash.
Thanks

Download ROM Manager and see if you can flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
Power off the phone completely. Hold down the down volume button and press power. Once on the hboot screen select recovery and press power. You should boot into cwm. From there you should be able to install was ROM.

Once in recovery the way you usually flash things is by looking for the option
'install zip from sdcard'
You can click through the next screen to get to your sdcard itself, and then choose what zip file you want to install from the sdcard. You can install from subfolders, but it's much easier to do so from the main sdcard directory.
You want to flash the superuser zip file if you want to stay on the stock rom and have it rooted, otherwise you would want to have the ROM you wanted to install already present on your sdcard and you could choose it then.
Most (if not all) custom ROMs are pre-rooted for you, so it should be as simple as putting the zip file for one on your sdcard and installing the ROM that way.
If that's not clear or you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

[Q] Unlocked bootloader and root 2.20, but now can't install twprp recovery

Hey Guys So i was able to successfully unload my bootloader and root my phone via 2.20 root temp method. Now i've run into a wall where I seem to be following the directions, but can't seem to get it to work.
So after my phone was unlocked etc after the whole token thingy... (Sorry this is my first time since 3-4 years ago that i have rooted.. Last phone was a Droid X so excuse my ignorance).... Anyhow so my phone got reset and all and booted back and everything was fine and working.. Now according to the thread in order to flash a ROM of my choice i need to install some sort of Recovery tool. The instructions say to install TWRP-2.3.1.0-evita.img. I have put the .img on the same folder c:android that i have created where i have the adb, fastboot files. I open up a command prompt window and run the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.3.1.0-evita.img and it says "waiting for device" and get's stuck there and nothing happens.
According to the post it is supposed to install it and restart my phone automatically, however nothing happens. I am afraid if i reboot my phone and try again that my temp root will go away and will have to redo-everything all over again. Additionally I have tried the market place method where you download "Goomanager" and install the twrp img via menu>openrecoveryscript and choose to download, however i get an error when attempting to download. Can someone point me in the right direction. And will i lose temp root if i reboot my phone?
"Hey guys i just notice i did not run the "adb fastboot" command to tell my phone to reboot first prioer to trying to flash the twrip image. Sorry"

I just downloaded superuser and busybox. Also i downloaded root checker and when i click on check root it says my phone is NOT PROPERLY ROOTER. Can this be because of how HTC ONE X gets temp rooted and this app doesn't work properly? How can i check for sure if i'm rooted? I mean i can get into TWRP recovery and everything with no issues. Thanks.
I believe that because you did not download superuser before reboot. I think you lost root. Might want to try again.

So after i Ran the run.bat and did the entire cid and then token thingy from HTC site and unlocked my bootloader the phone rebooted on it's own.
I believe i need to install superuser via recovery or flash a rom first then install not sure.. the way the dev wrote this phrase is confusing to me.. Check it out...
10. After unlocking the bootloader, you can flash a custom recovery partition via fastboot, boot into recovery mode, and use a recovery ADB shell or install from an update.zip to install Superuser and su (I do not provide support for custom recoveries, but this is a straightforward process that other people can help with).
I mean every step form 1-9 all went successfully. Can you provide me with some tips ?
Oh OK. I get it. Give a sec I'll post what you need.

Thanks for helping me out, much appreciated. Also look's like i will need to find the superuser file somewhere online. I believe it needs to be inside a .zip. If i need that can you please provide that info on the instructions. Thank you so much for helping me.

So i did not download the CM recovery as i already had the TWRP recovery installed prior to my post. I put the superuser zip file in my CD Card then i adb reboot recovery within command prompt which brought me into the Team Win Recovery Project V2.3.1.0, I then selected install and choose the superuser zip file you linked me to download, however it fails with errors. Do you know what I am doing wrong?
I think this all has to happen before rebooting after the new root process. So CID, then flash recovery, load and flash superuser, then reboot. I'm not sure how others are getting it to stick. I'm rooted on 1.85 with both my HOX's

I've never tried nor know if possible to flash a zip in fastboot. To the best of my knowledge it has to be a image file.

Upgraded to 4.4.2 and lost root... I've searched but can't fix it...

I've received the 4.4.2 OTA update on my phone and I lost root.
This seems to be common, and I re-installed CWM (and I also tried TWRP) custom recoveries and they both work fine.
However, SuperSU and the SU binary seem to be halfway installed/broken.
How can I fix it?
SuperSU says it needs to update the SU binary, and if I try the normal method it fails and if I try the TWRP/CWM method it doesn't do anything.
so you can't flash supersu via cwm?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
CWM wasn't asking to install SuperSU and I wasn't sure what to flash...
However, I just used the cf-autoroot boot image and it worked.
Thanks for the help!
You have to flash super su in twrp or cwm recovery. Not from the super su app

[Q] htc desire hd root

I rooted my htc desire hd and had superuser on it, I removed the programs off my phone that I didn;t want. Later on I decided to change to superuser elite. However I didn't realise that I need to have the Elite running on my phone before I uninstalled SU. Not paying particular attention to the warning meassages I uninstalled it and found to my horror that I had lost root. I have been unable to regain root and I don't know why that is but I did a factory reset and found Id lost internet. As my technical abilities are limited (I could kick myself) I'm struggling to know what to to with the phone. I realise this will take some sorting out if I haven't bricked it in my ignorance.
Thanks for any help

Do let me know if it works.
