Google Maps 6.14.4 - Verizon HTC One (M8)

If anyone else is like me and absolutely DESPISES what Google did to maps in version 7...I imagine now that we're S-OFF we can purge this abomination and install a better and much more one handed and user friendly version of Google maps.
Zoom in/out buttons...measure...bigger text mode...All things I need! Lol
Will post a link once I get into work...pm me in the meantime if you need the apk.

Hmmm...renamed existing google maps and odex file to ".old" and placed my version in the system app folder...but it is still version 7. And if I just try to install it, it fails.
Any ideas anyone?

Google Buzz Web App only runs on 2.0+...would a build.prop edit make it work on 1.6?

Please dont flame me for this. I know that it's technically in the wrong section but the people who read the Development section are likely to know a bit more about this topic.
Anyway, Google Buzz. It's new, and it's pretty cool. It's built-in to the new version of Maps, but the Web App (buzz.google.com) will only work in Android 2.0 and up. I remember that before Google changed the Maps Navigation back-end, making an edit to the build.prop would make Navigation work on 1.6. So, would something similar work for Buzz?
I'm at school and I have no access to a computer with the SDK on it so I can't get at my build.prop at the moment via ADB. Could somebody test this if they get a chance?
Again...I know that this is technically the wrong section, but please be gentle with me
I think If you modify browser's user agent you could use buzz. I do it with firefox.
BR.
Why would you need to modify your browser to use Buzz...
Just open up Google Maps and it is already built into Maps 4.0, like you said in your msg...
Or do you not want to have to go that extra step?...
I mean yes it would be nice for it to work without having to use Maps, but why make extra work?
It's just a thought....
They are working on it for G1 device. Here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=3dcfc0961244b5ac&hl=en
Here's the build.prop's if you want to try (warning, you'll also see lwp's in marketplace THESE WILL NOT WORK).

Try the build.prop's I put up earlier. It DOEN'T work in the browser on 1.6 (which is what you want).
Like a few other people have stated. Why aren't you using the new Google Maps? It has Buzz. I've been using it all day. Commenting and posting.

And as he has stated, he wants it in the browser.
Oh ok yeah my bad I corrected myself.
but yeah I dont think its gunna be available for 1.6ers anytime soon. maybe in the future?
The Maps integration does NOT allow you access to all of the Buzz features. It only allows you to post, and comment on other Buzz posts.
AND the Buzz in maps only allows public posts. I don't really care to share location-based status updates to everyone in the world.
It's pretty goofy that the web app doesn't work in the 1.6 browser...REALLY goofy that it doesn't work in CyanogenMod with the backported Eclair browser.
The ROM cookers are doing a great job but it's really annoying that Goog seems to have basically EOL'ed Android 1.x after barely a year of service.
Google Buzz works with Maps 4.0 on cyan 2.x rom but it breaks multi-touch for some reason.
Oh wow...IT WORKS!
Will create a new thread on how to make it work.

Maybe.
Strike the part about it working, though. There appears to be a catch. Just pushing the build.prop enables the web app but causes a Force Close of Maps whenever you try and run Maps.
Testing what happens if you push the build.trout.prop as well right now.
I cant get it to post anything in maps, but then I am running OE1.1.5Beta. got it in the browser though.
I am running 1.6 and all I did was install maps 4.0 from this forum through terminal and then went to market and it prompted me for update with google maps buzz and i did. Now I am running official google 4.0 from market on my 1.6 FastTest rom.
Okay, it turns out that there is currently no way to get both a working Maps application (at all) and the Buzz web app on Android 1.6. Looks like we'll just have to wait for Google.

Facebook

I was woundering the Facebook app that came with the HTC is crap imo you can't see all the posts that people post on your status....
Anyone tell me why and advice me something else?
I also would like to know how?, I dont want change the original ROM.
thanks
Im afraid thats the best you will get for now unless you just use the facebook mobile or facebook touch site on your phone. Just save it as a favourite in the internet tab.
use m.facebook.com with your browser, so much better and easier!
Cool thanks, do you think they will update the windows one?

Yes there is a better one, if you download o!market free software program, once this is done then search for ' Official facebook app' this one is just like the PC version.
See Link : http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/omarket/
alot better thankyou!
Yeah I really was surprised when I received my HD2 on release day and it had the older version of Facebook. I was glad that HSPL was released the next day so I could have the newer version cooked in. I know that that there is the Cab but apps always work better when cooked in.
Thanks what do you mean by CAP?
Just use your web-browser and the full site? That's what I do at least.

I hadn't looked for it on the Market until I saw your post, and sure enough I couldn't find it either. That apk works great, and Earth looks fantastic on the Incredible.
Thank you i will enjoy!

Downloaded from market on May 15th....works great..
When the Incredible was released it was available for it. You could search the market and it was nowhere to be found. I'll delete this.
I can find Google Earth on the market but when you attempt to install it there is an error.
Installed, no issues.
Installed for me from market. No issues either. Hm. Try uninstalling old version first? Thats what I did...

As for new functions, I'm pretty sure Terrain and My maps were already there.
Anyone figured out yet how to change the distance units in Places? Everything else is in metric, but I get the damn distances Places in ****ing miles.
also where do you put filter on Google map search?
eg how can I limit search
oh wait there is a little icon down the bottom left which shows me the search list page.
and yes I see the distance is in eerr.. miles.. I mean who uses that old system..

And for me everything (latitude, places...) is in miles
Indeed, latitude is in miles as well.
...and google still has yet to update the android maps API. The google map-kit for iPhone is still light years ahead of the android.
It's impossible to write a decent map app that performs anywhere near as well as google maps.
I would like to see my own layers. Pics of my kids doing stuff at parks, skateboarding, etc. That would be pretty cool. Point at the ocean and see my kid do an off the top on a wave from last spring. Hah.
Just a thought.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
You can do that now. You just can't get information about individual map tiles, even something as simple as onMapFinishedLoading() doesn't exist. That means your layers will (often) load before the map is loaded, which looks like crap.
Thank you very much.I Like it
Curious. Does it pull xif data from Picasa for the image overlay? You would think that would be pretty easy to pull off. I mean I would subscribe to other folks layers to see what they do, where they go,etc. So, if I follow a skateboarder and he shares his layer I can see what trick he did at places I also skate. Video embed would be even more awesome.

When I click on a address in my phone instead of going to google maps it goes to the browser and loads it that way.....How can I stop that? I just want it to load into google maps not the browser I don't have any apps to make it do that. Stock Tmous HTC One S Non-rooted. Any help Would be appreciated

But this will require ROOT which he doesn't have...
Clear app defaults
Go to Settings>Applications, find the Internet application (or Chrome, whatever browser you're using) and Clear Defaults. That'll reset the file handlers and the next time you click a map link it should ask you if you want to open it in Google Maps (assuming you have it installed) or any other app that can handle the request.
I think he's stuck with the stock Apple suit enforced HTC Linkify crap. As far as I know, only way to make links clickable like this is to remove it via a Root file browser.
Ahhh....good ol root...
Well I would root my phone but due to all the buggieness how ever you spell that. I am waiting on my replacement One S to come in. I will try that with clearing defaults. thank everyone for the quick replies as well....thank button being hit now XD
