Initial audio delay over bluetooth - Microsoft Surface

Everyone,
I am having about 2-3 seconds of no audio when using my Bose soundlink mini with my Surface 2 Pro and watching videos. I have tried re-pairing the device as well as uninstalling the drivers from device manager and reinstalling them to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks.

Is this only when the device first pairs or does it persist for the entire session? On first pairing, that is entirely normal. Entire session, bluetooth does have latency but not 2 seconds worth, very strange, it is usually enough to spot lip sync errors in films I find.

Strange thing is, when I first pair my surface to the speakers and watch a video, there is no delay. The delay only happens on every video after that.

I have all time delay problem with my old Windows Mobile device. That time it happen because Bluetooth audio service have a large buffer. The problem were solve by change it to smaller value.
Hope this can help you.

At that time I adjust Windows Mobile Registry. But I can't find this on Windows 8/RT.
This for Windows Mobile.

Audio Video Mismatch

Hi, I just purchased a new TF700 and have been hoping like crazy, that it does not have any of the issues some people have been running into, again with another top of the line Asus tablet. So far there are no blemishes on the screen or case, the screen fitment seems pretty good and there is no creeking of flexing when pinching or pressing on the screen. The light bleed is not crazy bad. The GPS and wifi work great. It prompted me for an OTA update shortly after turning it on, and streaming video while listening via my S10 bluetooth headset, does not cause network drop. I was just about to proclaim it as near perfect, and then I ran into this. When streaming archive video from an internet network the audio and video don't match. I can pull it up on a Galaxy SII and SIII phone running ICS on the same wifi network and it works fine. But every time I stream any of the videos from there, it is never in sync. And not all video streaming is like this. Youtube from either the app or website are in sync. And so are videos from both the Hulu and Netflix apps. I watch videos from this internet network nearly every day, and have to try to get this figured out. Does anyone have suggestions or information pertaining to this issue? Is it related to this particular processor?
Oh yeah, and it does it when using the internal speaker only too, no headset whatsoever.
Thanks,
I have more interesting details as of today. I work with someone who has an Asus tf300 tablet and I tested it today. When connected to the same wifi network, and streaming the same video from an online network, the sound and video were out of sync again on my tf700, however the tf300 was dead on. Is my only option to just exchange it and hope the next one is better? Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,
Bluetooth lag has been addressed here before and is likely the root of your issue. Use the search feature to do some investigative work and you'll get to the bottom of it. Here's a good thread to start at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787662&highlight=blue+tooth
Ok thanks for the response Chief Geek, but in my case it isn't Bluetooth related, because it does it when no headset is attached, right through the factory installed speaker.

Gotcha. I stream a ton of different media from my home server to devices, to my TV via google tvbox, and to browsers outside of my network. The issue you are getting can be adjusted inside some video players by a time delay settings if it is consistant enough. If not, try playing with different file/container type comos and also different players can make a difference. Its a real PITA and happens on all my devices occasionally, even my 8 core laptop.

Yes, unfortunately this happens from within a browser, and I have tried several. I know there are no such adjustments from them. The thing that is annoying is that it happens with the Infinity every time I try it, and other Android phones and tablets seem to work fine. I just tried one of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablets, and it also works good.
I tried Asus support today and they just had me reset the device and see if that would fix it. It didn't. I think the fix for me is going to be to return it and get the Note 10.1.

[Q] Audio Pause when connecting to WiFi

I've got a weird problem with my Nexus 5.
When I listen to audio (typically with BeyondPod, but also with Google Play Music and ES Media Player) the audio sometimes pauses.
After a while I have noticed a pattern. It appears that the playback pauses when the device connects to / disconnects from a WiFi network.
I have also occasionally experienced it with WiFi switched off. I haven't analysed in detail when it happens, but it appears to happen when GSM connection is acquired / lost.
Is this a 'known problem'?
Is there any known workaround?
I get this with streaming app Spotify.
I've put it down to a kernel issue, I'm using Franco kernel and some other users have mentioned it also
Used to have this problem with the Franco kernel as well. Don't have the problem anymore now, but can't explain why.
If you are streaming, then of course changes in connectivity will result in an interruption, no? I assume the problem does not occur when playing music located on the device?

True! But I should have been more specific.
This is happening when listening to music offline so they are local files.
I read an idea that the phone prioritises the switch from WiFi to Data (this is the only time when my stutter occurs, leaving the house and coming back) and so music playback stutters very briefly as a result.

Ah, that's why I asked. I seem to remember reading somewhere that when playing music with Google Play Music, the app requires connectivity even when playing local files. If that is indeed the case, then connecting/disconnecting could cause the interruption. So, I suppose the next step would be to test with a music player.
Further clarifiaction
Just to clarify further:
What I'm experiencing is not a 'stutter', but a pause. - I have to manually restart the playback.
I only listen to 'local' media - not streamed. I don't know how it reacts when streaming.
I'm using stock 4.4.2 (rooted).

As I drift out of WiFi range and into data my streaming music doesn't pause. The song loads at the beginning I assume and ends up seamless during the network transfer.

You're probably right - it must at least buffer ahead.
I am having the exact same problem as the OP. I get pauses whenever my Nexus 5 goes from wi-fi to cellular, cellular to no signal, etc. It happens with many different apps like Pocket Casts, Google Play Music, DoggCatcher, Poweramp, both streaming and local file playback. Drives me nuts, especially when I am in the car. Used to happen with my Nexus 4 too.
The ONLY fix I have come up with (I am completely stock/un-rooted) is to download podcasts or playlists and play in Airplane Mode. This completely fixes the issue, but is not practical as I have to stay offline whilst listening to audio.
Also worth noting, it doesn't happen when I am playing local video files, e.g. a video podcast. If there is anyone that can help please do as at this rate I am going to have to start carrying an iPod touch around, and I have enough gadgetry already.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing this. My guess is that there must be some app that receives a notification when the connectivity changes, and for some reason pauses playback. Maybe if we can cross-reference installed apps we could find the offender?
Is there an easy way to see what apps are installed?

I tried to use 'Autorun Manager' to see what intents are captured and by whom, but I quickly got lost...
No audio skipping/stutter when using Spotify offline mode after turning airplane mode on.
Suddenly the problem disappeared!
I was clearing out a bunch of games that the kids had installed, and then I realised that the problem was gone!
I haven't done any serious analysis to pinpoint the culprit yet, though.

SBH80 Bluetooth Headset with Z1 Compact

Just been testing the new SBH80 headset with the Z1C for a couple of days. Overall it's a nice bit of kit, lightweight and comfortable. The aptX support on the Z1C gives fantastic quality sound, the buds allow a good seal and isolate ambient noise well. The cable is very thin - not sure how long it will last, tbh - and the earphones are tiny, you hardly know they're in your ears. Connecting and pairing are super easy using NFC with the Z1C, and BT reception is good if not as strong as some others, like the MW600.
Otherwise I noted a few things if anyone's thinking of using them with the Z1 Compact:
- Each time the Walkman app is brought to the foreground while playing music, there is crackling and intereference for about 3-4 seconds. Seems to be related to the Throw option kicking in - setting to manual doesn't help.
- Notifications for text messages don't make the headset vibrate, as advertised; incoming calls do. There seems no way to control this behaviour in any case - no app like with SBH50, for instance.
- The manual states that battery level for the headset can be checked under Power Management > Accessories. No such option exists on the Z1C ... yet?
- aptX can't be disabled for increased battery life as with other Sony headsets.
The neck unit is bulkier than I expected, and the battery rating of 8 hours is less than it could have been given the size - the Jaybird Bluebuds X manage the same with all the electronics squeezed into just the earphones. Still, it's a decent performer and has a premium quality so worth a look I reckon.
[Link to Sony product page]
If I may add my 5 cents here, I have been using mine with my Nexus 5 for about a month now and it works great. Sadly there is no Apt-X with the Nexus 5 but other than that it works well.
I found the back of the device (which goes behind your neck) to be comfortable enough to the point that sometimes I will check the back of my neck to see if it is still there as you get used to it very quickly.
Sadly as ghtop put it there is no vibration for any type of notification other than incoming calls (not even sound on the earphones for that matter which is a little annoying when listening to music since I'd like to know I am getting an SMS or something) and I haven't been able to find any way to see the battery level for the device in the phone.
I definitely recommend it though this is my first Bluetooth headset ever so I can't compare to other models in the same category.
Also on funny fact: It is stated in many websites that the device is splash proof however I cannot find any IP rating anywhere in the manual and it even says that you should not expose the device to humidity or water in the manual so I don't know where those sites got that information.
Just to add a little upate: with the new Smart Connect version - 5.6.24.215 - a persistent notification when connected to the device shows the headset battery level and time remaining (including standby time), and also shows on the device info page in the Smart Connect app. Still no Power Management > Accessories tab on KitKat though.
The sound quaity really blows other BT devices out of the water

Hello "maniaacos", mainly I bought this headset for sports purpose and, until now, I am quit satisfied. I find them very comfortable to run or for cycling, they are very light (although not as light as advertised, if I recall it, they have around 10 g more than advertised), I find they fit in the ear properly (in a one hour run I occasionally have to readjust them, but it's definitely not a deal breaker for me), the remote controls are very practical, and you can easily take them of the ear and let them hanged on your neck/chest. Finally, until now, I had no sweat problems with them, but, considering it as only past a week since I received them, I will have to wait a little longer to have a more accurate insight about this. Feel free to ask me more details.
No result
Unfortunately my tests with frozen liveconnect app and throw function turned off failed. I still experience music interruptions. Moreover if I stream music through other devices and my z1 compact is connected to the headset via multipoint interruptions appear as well. Now I think it can be connected with the bluetooth driver itself as it was reworked to support LE (low energy protocol). Hopefully we will find the solution. I sent a query to sony support. Will get back when they respond.

Hello, like you, at this time, I didn't come to any conclusion. So, I am still trying to understand why some times I experience those symptoms and why they are not present in other ocasions. :-/ Let's stay in contact in order to try figure this out...
Hello "AseDance", have you been using the headset with the Wi-Fi on? If so, try to turn it of and see if the music interruptions continue. In my last two runs, I turned of the wi-fi and everything worked ok. It's maybe just a coincidence, tomorrow I will try it again with the wi-fi on. Note that, in my office, with a strong wi-fi connection everything works like a charm, because of that, I suspect that while running outdoor, maybe when the phone tries to connect with diferent wireless points it messes up the Bluetooth connection... :-/

I freezed all the bloatware, installed running app cleaner and guess what? It almost helped. The key word is ALMOST. Anyway It's better than nothing. Sony support asked me to reset the headset (put it on a charge, then press and hold the phone button till it vibrates). I did it but will test it a little later as I'm in office now. You can try. Maybe the problem was with the very first connection. I personally believe that it's all about the radio and it's firmware. I found a forum were a man indicates the same problem with z1. Spotify skips since Android 11

Hi,
since I got Android 11 on my Pixel 3a, Spotify tends to interrupt the streaming. As long as the screen is on, it works smoothly. If it is off, it goes on smoothly as long as the buffer is still full (I guess), but then the dropouts come quickly, sometimes several seconds long. It's not the Internet, energy saving mode is not on as well. I installed Spotify again, that didn't help. What could I do?

It does not happen when my Bluetooth Headphone is connected. Only when using the internal speakers. Any idea?
I've been experiencing this same issue with my 3a XL too. Ever since the Android 11 update it's skipping audio streaming over bluetooth but I've noticed it with podcasts mainly. It happened while listening using Pocket Cast and Youtube. I also noticed it stopped happening when the screen was active but when the screen went out it happened every 5 or 10 seconds or so. It's really annoying and makes bluetooth playback practically unusable. I hope I can fix this and not have to buy a new phone.

Yeah, I found some more people with this issue. It's definitely not a user mistake or device-specific. I also did not find a fix so far.
I've been having this issue with all audio. I really only listen via bluetooth but has been experienced on spotify, stitcher (podcast app) and audible. Super frustrating
The same is happening on my wife's Android 11 Pixel 3a, only with Amazon Music instead. When she plays music via bluetooth to a speaker, it will be okay for a minute or two, then start skipping. I made to download the playlist offline, so it's not a network connectivity issue. I also placed the phone right next to the speaker, so it's not a bluetooth signal issue.
My guess is that it's something to do with the screen and power-saving or something. IT SUCKS
Similar. Pixel 3a Android 11.
Bluetooth connected to 2 different Bluetooth systems skips terribly, more noticeable with Spotify podcasts, sounds fine in headphones and phone speaker but over Bluetooth listening to podcasts or audiobooks is just intolerable happened with Android 10 as well though to be fair.

Hey everyone, I found a fix that worked for me on some subreddit (credit to /u/Langduscher). If you haven't come across it yet, here it is:
1. Settings
2. Go to apps
3. See all apps
4. Click the 3 dots and show system apps
5. Find Bluetooth
6. Storage & cache
7. Clear storage
That did it for me. Spotify has been working over Bluetooth for half a day now without problems
Edit: as for internal speakers, if you have problems, I don't have a solution for that sadly. Internal speakers working fine for me

7. Clear storage
That did it for me. Spotify has been working over Bluetooth for half a day now without problems
Edit: as for internal speakers, if you have problems, I don't have a solution for that sadly. Internal speakers working fine for me

Thanks, that sounds like a reasonable solution. We ended up doing a factory reset on my wife's phone, and that solved the issues too. She noticed that after the wipe, the previous bluetooth devices (3 different audio things, plus her Garmin GPS watch) were organized differently. Wiping the bluetooth settings makes perfect sense.

Hey everyone, I found a fix that worked for me on some subreddit (credit to /u/Langduscher). If you haven't come across it yet, here it is:
1. Settings
2. Go to apps
3. See all apps
4. Click the 3 dots and show system apps
5. Find Bluetooth
6. Storage & cache
7. Clear storage

Can confirm, works ? excellent, thankyou
I had the similar problem on my pixel 4a. You just need to sign out and sign in again to fix the problem. If you do not have premium I would recommend you to download modded spotify app for the best results.

Question Strange Bluetooth issue

I use a bovee Bluetooth dongle to listen to music while I drive. When I'm playing music it's like someone hits mute for a split second and this happens every 10 seconds or so. I first noticed this behavior on my last phone (OnePlus 8pro) but only on custom roms. I'm 100% stock on the pixel 7. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks.
Sounds like a bad Bluetooth connection. Connected to my Nvidia Shield my Bluetooth headphones do that sometimes. I just forget the pairing and restart both, re-pair, and it usually works.
Have you reset your radio/bluetooth yet?
My wife had a similar issue, not quite as bad as yours, but frustrating, which got better, after a BT reset, but not 100%.
When she moved to a new phone recently, I suggested I install apps/accounts, and let her fresh configure it from there, so basically almost a full-reset. That solved the whole issue, to date (going on 2+ months now). I suspect there were a few "iffy" apps along the way too, so who knows what all got fixed, through that process...

Maybe try to change ypur AVRCP to lower version from Developer Options. Help me with some quirky BT appliance

So I have the same problem on a 2015 Toyota Highlander. On the Highlander, there is a phone connection function for Bluetooth and a video/ audio player. Only connection with Bluetooth. If I select both, it plays normally. I might have to do with your device not connecting using full Bluetooth functionality.

This I believe is the issue when it comes to other equipment and not the phones
