I wanted to know if its possible to lock my phone while also running day dream. For example when I place the phone on the charger it goes into day dream but it is not actually locked.
The reason this is important to me is that I have a Galaxy Gear and It wont receive notifications unless the device is locked.
I would like to be able to user the daydream and still receive notifications on my galaxy gear.
Any help is appreciated.

for those of you with watches already, are there any issues with custom roms/rooted phones?
I assume there are not, but just wanted to check
thanks!
I have a Nexus 6 with AICP (rooted, LP ROM based on CM source) mated to a regular S2 (not sport). I presume the watch software is the same as on a Sport. I had little or no trouble getting everything that should work to work. I say everything that should work because if you have a Samsung device with TW interface apparently there are more features. After installing everything (which was not hard at all, just installed Gear manager from the Play Store and followed the directions), I did have to do a light reset on the watch to get the notifications to show up.
Anyway, I am quite happy with the combination and the watch is doing everything I have asked it to do.
Hope that helps,
Fred
thanks Fred, I am on a nexus 6 currently running MM Chroma, but also run MM AOSIP, and MM Pure, so I too think that a sport will work just fine..Thing is, I am gonna grab a 3G version from TMO in a few days when they hit, so hopefully, the phone stuff works as seamlessly as the conventional " stuff" does.
So, the order of things should be setup the watch first, then install Gear manager, then do do a "light reset" on the watch? Whats a "light reset", like a reboot, or more like a wipe? And, do you have to install that Samsung Services app too, or just Gear manager?
I assume the 3G model might have a big of a different setup, so once TMobile gets an actual owners manual for the 3G Gear S2 up on their site, I will check it out.
Thanks again for the 411 :good::good:
I would install gear manager first, then crank the watch up. Don't select reactivation lock because if you want to trade the watch in for some reason you will have to remove it (I tried on a watch that the idiot did not remove and I am still angry).
Follow the instructions and yes you will have download the services app but so be it if it works.
The light reset is kind of like a factory data reset but I had to do it to get notifications to work. It was painless (say compared to unlocking the boot loader on your phone
I am linking mine more and more.
Cheers,
Fred
So ive got a spint s6, bought from dubai, unlocked and rooted apparently. After a couple of days, my phone woulndt start up cuz it was FRP locked. OK so i searched for the original firmware, i flashed it and my phone booted up again. i flashed also the 5.1.1 and 6.0.1. Here s the thing, on 5.1.1 i can make calls, receive them, receive text messages but i cant send texts at all, so my guess its that its not unlocked anymore. On 6.0 doesnt even have any signal so forget about it. I just want to resolve this issue. I cant find the setting that could help me to change the message center at all, i dont have that option in my phone, i even tried to change things with some adb commands but still nothing. So after all my guess its that the phone isnt unlocked anymore and if so, how do i unlock it? i just cant give the phone back cuz i dont live in dubai, im like a day or so distance with the plane so i just wont go back there again. If anyone could help me...please do so...im on 5.1.1 now, unrooted, i can root, i just cant send texts and i dont have the messages center
oh and also i tried the galaxy tool method from idoneapps which apparently wont work at all and im concerned about paying for that thing if it doesnt work so...yeah
I JUST got a replacement LG v20 (like literally sent back my first V20 on thursday) for a v20 that wasn't quick charging. And I left it on top of a car when pulling out of a gas station and it fell off and promptly got run over. First cellphone I've ever actually broken or even cracked a screen on. So annoying.
Anyway, the phone was still working using my bluetooth headset but I didn't realize and the battery died shortly after. I'd like to try and backup a few things on the phone before switching over to my insurance replacement (specifically let Whatsapp backup automatically run at 3am, backup SMS messages and backup call log) but I have the PIN required on restart option set. Everything I find online about getting an android phone unlocked with a broken screen seems to be talking about the screenlock and not the PIN on restart feature. Before I go buy an OTG breakout cable to use a mouse and HDMI monitor will that even work with PIN on restart? Can I connect to the phone with ADB before it actually boots into android (and set the USB connection as something other than only charge; not even sure I've set USB debugging yet since the phone is so new for me)?
It won't be the end of the world if I can't get into the broken phone, my photos are automatically backed up to Google drive, all my contacts, emails, tasks, calendar etc are cloud based (exchange server or gmail). Really the only thing I'd lose would be SMS's since last week, whatsapp since last backup, and my call log. But that would be really annoying to my pseudo OCD; I have an uninterrupted record of every text message I've ever gotten since treo in 2004.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hello,
The situation is faced by lots of people and this is really very irritating. But I would like to tell you that there are ways to unlock your Android phone with broken screen. Maybe you are not aware of this fact but actually, you can unlock your phone without typing password on phone. The only possible way is by using a professional tool like Android Unlock. This is a great utility that helps to unlock any device whether its dead or broken, whether its locked with PIN, fingerprint, face lock, password etc. This tool is just amazing as it effectively works to unlock Android phone with broken screen.
As the title implies, my issue is slightly different from the others reported; I don't have issues with the BT connectivity (that I can tell). The watch and phone see and connect to each other. I have no tested this extensively, but I was receiving notifications on both devices just fine after setting it up.
My issue is specifically with Samsung Pay on the Gear. When I first selected the "Connect to a new device", and it went through the reset process, Pay was completely gone on the watch. Couldn't see it in apps, couldn't see it from the Samsung Gear app on my phone either. I thought that was peculiar, and couldn't find a remedy, so I reset the watch completely. After the reset, Pay was back, but the watch failed to finish the restore of my data. I reset it again. This time, Pay was back AND all of my data was restored without a hitch. I happened to already have the need to call my bank to authorize my debit card for Android/Samsung Pay on my S8+, and asked if the agent would stay on the line to ensure I can set up Pay on my watch as well. The nice gentleman agreed to, and after 15 minutes of rinse/repeat with holding the back button, the watch would do the following:
Display "Check your phone"
Display - and stay stuck - "Keep device connected"
Nothing happens. On either device. It's obviously trying to push an internet prompt to the phone, and it's not sending/receiving successfully
If anyone has any pro tips or experience with this, please chime in! And I don't want to seem rude, but in the interest of saving time, please assume I have at least a moderate understanding of device maintenance. Such that I power-cycled devices, reset, etc. The issue is consistent, and my underlying question here is whether or not it might have anything to do with my phone being the unlocked US model. Not International, but still unlocked.
I have the same issue as outlined in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s3/help/samsung-pay-gear-s3-unlocked-s8-t3620316
And in speaking with Samsung support, Samsung Pay only works with S3 paired with a carrier phone in the US, which is stupid.
My brother recently shattered the screen on his s6 active. I was able to remove the bad screen because it was black and nothing on it at all. The phone still functions because the light comes on and changed colors when he got messages. I connected it to Kies and it will not recognize it because it is locked with a pattern. He bought a quick prepaid phone to use for now. His pictures and everything did not sync to his google account so everything is in the phone. I dont think he turned on debugging because he does not even know what it is. Long story short is there a way I can access the files and copy them over with adb or something? Or maybe a prepaid 30 dollar phone that uses the same display connection that I can just rip the screen off and plug it in temporarily? Anyone able to give any advise on this? Thanks in advance.
