Hello everyone,
Recently, when I'm using Facebook, my Nexus 7 (2013) sometimes gets unresponsive, like when I try to scroll down, it won't. But then, few seconds later, it works. I guess it is my finger problem.
Just 10 minutes ago, I connected it to my wifi, then weird things happened.
It was like being hijacked, being remotely controlled. I didn't do anything but it opened files, gmail, switching pages.
With difficult, I was still managed to shut it down.
My spec:
Nexus 7 2013
stock 4.4.2
rooted
I am wondering if it is virus? Can I turn on my Nexus 7 (2013)? Should I try to connect to my wifi again?
Or should I factory reset it ? What about my data? Should I back them up?
I hope it is my illusion that my Nexus 7 (2013) has been hijacked. I don't know much about Android security. Thank you very much in advance!

Yes, I constantly clean my screen with screen cleaning kit.
I turned on my Nexus 7 2013 a few hours ago. Nothing weird happens since.
I used avast! Free edition to scan my device. It turned out nothing was wrong.
I would assume uncontrollable issue was due to my dirty screen lol
Thanks for the reply!
No problem

have you downloaded an Android antivirus application and scanned the device yet?
Android malware has the capability to do what your saying but that type of malware is still uncommon.
EDIT: just saw you reply. my bad

Yes, I did at that time. I used Avast! Free edition and nothing was wrong.
I didn't reset to factory setting or flash another ROM.
The condition I mentioned hasn't happened since.
Thank you

Managed to get myself one from the CPW yesterday afternoon, and since then I think my new phone has crashed about 150 times. Every time I open any browser app, it crashes. If I use the loud speaker then which back to earpiece while on a call, it crashes. The list goes on.
Anyone else experiencing anything like this?
I got mine from CPW and now had a single thing crash! A few apps have lagged for a second or two but that's becuase they haven't been updated I'm assuming.
But as far as the OS is concerned I have not had these problems. Maybe something went wrong during your update? I'd try a reset.

Thanks for the reply. Just tried a factory reset. I noticed that I didn't need to download the update this time. As soon as I tried a few of the apps it crashed.
Any other ideas?

i had the play store crash on me quite abit when browsing my app purchase history, also the main launcher a couple of times. i don't think it's *quite* ready for primetime just yet. the price of being an early adopter i suppose.
Yeah suppose it is. I'm having to take it back today. It's restarting every 2 mins. Gutted!

The camera app crashed multiple times even after a reboot.
Also, when I was trying to search contacts the google search crashed.
I'm also having seemingly random crashes. At least a few times a day. No pattern. Could be from pressing the power button. Watching a video on YouTube. Just typing into this box. Anything. I already tried doing a factory reset. No luck.
Maybe a bad flash? Reflash factory image if it still crashes, return it. I've been using mine since Monday, the only thing that crashed was Firefox Beta but that's fixed now with the new update.
Had my nexus 5 for about 3 days now.
It randomly restarts through out the day,
I'll be watching youtube videos with the youtube app I'll just watch the volume bar just go to 0 when I'm not even touching the volume buttons, I'll turn it back up only for it to auto turn back down.
Today I'm having issues with the camera, very time load the camera and try to take a picture, it will just freeze and the phone will reboot.
I've also had issues with the WiFi connecting to my network, like I have to trick it into connecting.
I want to love this phone but all of this random crap is pissing me off.

How to understand crashed? Rebooted or just your apps crashed on it?
If only apps, it might be 'cause they are not compatible with Android KitKat yet.

For me it freezes up for around 5-10 seconds then restarts. There is no usage Or app associated.
Tried reloading the stock image. No difference. RMA it is!
Nexus 5 problem list:
Oops...my earlier reported problems with crashing were resolved after simply restarting phone...
Wow...I haven't had a single crash on Android from 1.6 all the way to 4.4.2 now. Guess I'm just lucky. I did have a Moto X that kept rebooting though, but it turned out to be a bad RAM chip. Maybe thats the problem here?
Hey guys,
I just picked up my Nexus 5 and I noticed especially on cameras my camera stops responding and I can't even click "OK" or "Cancel" it's just frozen and i have to reboot it. THis happened to me 10 times in the last hour now... any ideas?
did you do anything to the phone?
root anything.
everything is stock?
Mine does the same thing. It was doing this from day one and now it keeps doing it after I rooted..
Not sure what the issue is, but I probably have to restart my phone about once every three days.
Oh btw, I use face unlock so its really annoying when the camera stops working
I would suggest using this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513937
or this toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517778
restore to stock completely, break the root and see what happens.
edit: this one as well I think it will be easiest and then try again. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525026
need more information if you are loading a custom rom/ kernel etc. I know you probably are not but we cannot assume anything.
My Nexus 5 does this even after a full refresh mainly when not touching it. I updated to 4.4.1 and still no luck. Did you resolve yours?

My Nexus 5 is constantly rebooting itself every 5 seconds. There's no time to try any recovery option while it is turning on because it turns off immediately. Do you have any possible solution for this issue as well?
THANKS!
Hi,
Not sure if this is the right forum thread, but recently having lots of problem with my N5.
i have a 32GB N5, when I use LTE & Location on the road, it heats up, the screen starts flickering and eventually, gets to a point when I don't see anything, I have to wait for it to cool down, turn off from recovery by guessing and after 15-20-30 mins, it will be back to Normal. Is this an issue with N5 or is it just with mine.
I bought it from Craigslist, so I do not have any warranty info. not sure if I can get it replaced.
I have used many many different ROMs on my N5, it was unlocked & I rooted it. Currently I am running stock rooted with Faux kernel with Gravitybox for customizations.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA,
Dhaval.
From the way it is described it is way more than just software especially with screen flickering clearly this isn't an issue with every nexus 5 or Google would have addressed it immediately.. I would restore back to complete stock and see if it still does it. Too bad you bought it from some guy off craigslist, he probably knew about the problem and just didn't RMA it.
There is a Q&A forum.
Do you get some weird colored lines sort of like TV static also? Randomly, my phone does this every so often and I'm somewhat worried about it.
It only occurs in apps, on the home screen it doesn't occur.

A stock Nexus 5 should be pretty well protected from over heating. I would recommending restoring the factory firmware to see if it fixes the problem. If it is still over heating then it probably needs a visit to service.

if i were you, i would download the Google N5 Image from their servers and wipe your device clean

Hello guys
I just finished updating my rooted Nexus 5 to 4.4.3 and it went fine but I immidiately noticed some "problems" when I turned it on. The thing is that my touch screen is not as responsive as before 4.4.3 update. On 4.4.2 scrolling was flowy and smooth like on ice, but on 4.4.3 I got big delay (half cm of emptiness) on scrolling through gesture (apps, home or anything..) and, even worse, when I'm scrolling down my Contacts list it dials randomly due to a lagging. Is there any calibration to be done or that's it?

It doesn't sound normal. Mine is working just as smooth as it was on 4.4.2. Have you tried wiping the phone? Do a factory reset and see.

issues here
my battery went from 19% to 0 over night.... in airplane mode. previously, it would only use 3-4% overnight, esp with everything turned off. almost woke up late
also, im having a hard time answering phone calls. i slide to answer, it doesnt answer but its still ringing
I noticed that there is a bunch of different problems reported last two days and I have decided to wait for Google's response on all of this mess. But I must say that my phone is working better now and somehow it heals itself )) Maybe this update is about implementing some organic components

I'm having a lot of issues with my phone.. Seems like an sd card issue. Ant app that uses memory does not work properly... Even the camera does not load...
I'm going to do a factory reset... Any way to save all settings on stock?

I also got a big issue on 4.4.3. since the update i get sponataeuos signal dropouts especially when i travel by bus or train.
It seams the radio has problems by logging out at one cell and switch to an other cell. Also the reception/signal is very weak.
Someone noticed the same? or does anybody has a tip?
thanks in advance :good:

Go to settings > apps > locate google dialer and clear cache
For battery drain, install an app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats (it's free demo version is available on XDA) or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm
Observe your device for one day after complete charge (90+) and use it.
Using that app, you'll observe the apps/wakelocks which are causing unnecessary battery drain. Eliminate them or post screenshots here so that we can help you to solve battery drain issue.

First thing to do if something is broken after an OTA is factory reset to see if it is an OS bug or whether you have incompatible data and settings.
It sounds like it would be a pain to do, but you can easily backup with helium nowadays so it needn't be

GPS not Working
Has anyone else noticed if their GPS is working or not? I was trying to use mine last night and I can see that GPS connects and it brings up the map but then never navigates or even moves from the starting point on the map. Can someone let me know if this is a new problem??? I flashed the N5_4.4.3.zip file that someone pointed me to, as I had asked for a flashable zip file to update to 4.4.3 as I still have not gotten an ota notification from T-Mobile:confused
i have a question also,
what if i like the current mono toned google dialer?
when i get this update & it updates the dialer, is it possible to un-install the dialer update to revert back to the older dialer?

Is anyone else running Cyanogenmod 11 M-releases on their Nexus 5?
I just got mine a week or two ago, and the first thing I did was unlock it and flash it to CyanogenMod 11. (M8 at the time)
I'm using the device encryption, because I'm a paranoid bastard (And I love the fact this phone is actually usable while encrypted, unlike my Nexus S), and I find it very crashy. Several times per day, seemingly totally random, often while entering into the keyboard, though sometimes while it's just in my pocket. I've been able to determine no rhyme or reason.
No error messages, no apps crashing, no force closes, just several times a day it'll just freeze and reboot. Data loss is a common occurrence. I've lost my WhatsApp! database several times now, and a few others as well.
Is this just me, or is CyanogenMod 11 this crappy for other people too? I can't find a way to prove to myself that this is a hardware problem, the Android Stability Test app just keeps going and going. I've been watching adb logcat during a crash, and nothing interesting is output. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

We'll have to disagree about the usefulness of encryption, (I like that if my phone is powered off, my data is PRIVATE until and unless my passphrase is entered) but I'll wipe the phone this eve, TRIM it, and get setup on it again without encryption.

Maybe it's useful if you have something important on your device, but really, if you do, it shouldn't be kept on your phone anyways.
On Android, encryption is nothing but trouble, maybe it doesn't cause issues right away, but eventually it'll cause many. If you really wanted to keep things secured then I don't see why you would unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and install a custom ROM.

CyanogenMod has Privacy Guard, which is another feature I'm using, mostly with the aforementioned WhatsApp!, which has a list of permissions longer than my arm. I don't like it, but I need it for work.
I'll grant that the custom Recovery and ROM may slightly weaken the encryption (specifically an attacker could alter the ROM from Recovery), but even so having the encryption makes the phone a million times more resistant to data theft and tampering than not having it. It's worth noting that tweaking the ROM is the _worst_ an attacker could do. If I suspected such a thing had happened I could re-unlock the bootloader (which would wipe my data), and re-flash a known good Recovery and ROM. I'd lose my data, but even if the attacker had dumped the partition they still wouldn't have my key, and my data would still be private.
And the phone has crashed twice today. I'm going to repeat my original question - is anyone running Cyanogenmod 11-M on their Nexus 5, and if so is it stable? Should I be RMAing this phone, or should I try reverting it to stock first?

its more then likely the encryption. Disable it, re-flash and see what happens
No encryption. Wiped and trimmed the phone yesterday, now 4 crashes.
Try another ROM, see if it crashes. If it still does, flash factory images and see if it still does.
If so, RMA.
Nothing but trouble for me since upgrading to m9. I have been using the various M builds since March with no problems. M8 was fine. No device encryption for me. I tried turning it on and instead got stuck redoing the whole phone.
Now I get frequent crashing. I switched to the most recent nightly yesterday. Apps stopped crashing. However the os itself still crashes. Several times the screen wouldn't turn on after removing it from my pocket. The light was blinking so it definitely didn't just turn off. It also has stayed black after a few (but not all) phone calls. I've had to hard reset every time to recover.
Thinking about reverting to m8 backup. Willing to give it a few more nightie and see if it works out.
Where did you get it? I'm using the stable M9 snapshot off the CM site for hammerhead and it works pretty good.

Got it from the OTA update. Unfortunately I'm not experienced enough to know how to debug it or use proper logs. It could be that its an app I'm using combined with the most recent update...

No problems for me on the M9 snapshot either. I'm coming up on 100 hours of uptime. Have you tried another kernel? I've always found that the stock CM kernel isn't the best. I'm using ElementalX 1..04 and it works pretty great.

+1. I installed another kernel (Chaos) for that reason and it's way faster.

Yeah it'll never be like the GB days. There's either audio problems, crashes, or other random problems. It's sad because people are expecting it to be like it was in old days. CM is not for stability, you can quote me on that.
