I have found alot of mixed opinions on this, but no DEFINITE answer. Is it possible to play games on the surface pro 1 with a six axis ps3 controller? I've download motionjoy but I can't even get my surface pro 1 to see the controller, through blue tooth or usb cable. Anyone have any luck on this?
Any old windows + PS3 controller guide will work. The surface pro has nothing special in how it handles USB or bluetooth devices and is simply a windows PC thrown in a tablet shell.
So you're saying there is no way to use the ps3 controller with blue tooth? And even when I plug it in via usb to the surface I still can't get it to do anything.
I am struggling to see how you came to that conclusion. I said it will work the same as any other windows device. Get on google, find a guide for PS3 controller on windows, it will work just the same for the surface pro as any other machine.

My apologies. I was not very clear. I was asking for a clear way to connect a controller via bluetooth. All the guides i've seen online all start with: "once your computer recognizes the controller in bluetooth settings, do this...." And as I cannot get my surface pro to recognize it, I was wondering if there was anyone out there that could help me with that.

To be even more clear, I can't get my surface pro to recognize the controller even via usb cable. I plug in the controller, and I hold the middle ps button and hte four red lights blink for about 30 seconds and then go off. Nothing happens in the devece manager, no loaded drivers, nothing.

I think your starting point would be to check if your desktop or other laptop recognizes the same controller. I don't think it's a surface issue. Surface Pro is as good as any other laptop out there in the market.

It might be that the driver is not loaded right. Did you check all the boxes when loading the driver? On my Pro 2 it took a few tries. Also, beware of BSoDs, the driver is a bit buggy

This method requires a USB dongle. I can connect my PS3 controller using the DS3 Tool, but the built in bluetooth in the surface pro isn't connecting with my DS3 Tool. Any way to make it so that it connects without a USB BT dongle?

should be no difference between the internal and external bluetooth as windows does not differentiate between them (and the internal one could well be attached via USB anyway)

No. It also shows one of the device ports being X'd out. I'm pretty sure thats the bluetooth port but I have no idea as to why it is X'd out though.

Have not found a PS3 to Surface program yet.

The Surface won't recognize any program that I have found. The programs all work on my laptop with using a PS3 controller but the surface won't if let any of these programs be installed. It always refers you to the surface playstore.

No, it's a rocketfish. I wondered I ft that would matter. Are HDMI cables not standardized yet?

Recently I order a brand new MediaBridge HDMI cable from Amazon from a friend for use in India in a sealed box & it did not work when I attached it to the phone & my Dell laptop. What could be the reason? Is there any symbol supposed to pop up on the phone or the laptop & on hindsight I just got thinking (gave the cable back now) in case if no symbol is supposed to pop up would directly playing a video on the phone while the hdmi cable is attached make it play on the laptop??
Don't want to be a smartass or anything but I hope you're selecting HDMI as the Source on your TV.
As I mentioned I tried on my Dell laptop running Win 7....is there anything specific I needed to do besides just connecting either ends between the phone & the laptop to get the HDMI working?

I'm sure it the HDMI Micro to HDMI connection from phome to laptop will not work. Laptop HDMI should only be an output, not an input. It will work from phone to a monitor or tv. Once connected you will be prompted to make a choice on the A2 for a display mode.
I bought a Dynex cable from BB that works fine with the Atrix 2 when connected to a monitor or tv.

Thanks. Yes you are right it is a micro hdmi (phone) to regular HDMI port on the Laptop. DAYMN..they should specify to unsuspecting users like me. IMHO many people would not be aware about this.
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone has had any success using a USB hub with the Asus Transformerpad TF300T? Powered/unpowered? Found some information mostly saying they will work in theory. Hoping someone can prove that in practice.
Also was curious has anyone found a reliable USB and/or BT controller for use with emulators that does not require root (I read some good things about Wii Classic controllers). Worst case scenario, I will use the PS3 pairing tool and root.
Thanks for any help you can provide me!

I have a Gear Head USB hub(4 port - $4.99) which works with the Asus USB adapter and with the dock. The only thing I have used it for is to access 2.5" usb drives (fat32 and ntfs). It always works without any changes.
Be mindful that the drives always pull power when plugged in even with the tablet powered off.
There is no part number or other identification on the unit.
I forgot! I have also used the hub with a wifi mouse and a 2.5" drive at the same time (prior to getting a dock).

Good price too. I did not know that drives pull power, even when the power is off. That actually explains some things haha.
Thank you, sir.

You're welcome! Good Luck.
As a note the 2.5 drives work without external power but 3.5 drives require external power.
SO I read on here in a different section that some one did have some luck pairing a PS3 controller via an OTG cable, but here is where I have a problem, the OTG cable I have is mini to standard, not micro to standard, so the option I have would be sort of reversed. I would plug in the charging cable from my phone, plug the USB end of that into my OTG cable where it would connect to my PS3 controller at the other side.
I didn't see how there could be a problem with this but something doesn't seem right, I haven't been able to get it to pair.
I have tried USB/BT Joycenter and scanned for deviced both bluetooth and USB but nothing shows either.
Is there something I am missing? Do I need to reset the PS3 controller because it may be searching for a PS3? Or is it just not going to work and require root.
For the first time ever I have been hesitant to root a phone as I am quite liking this recent android version and just came back from the horrific windows phone. There are obviously still some connectivity issues in the Moto G so I wanted to wait until they were ironed out and then see how I felt about it.
If some one can enlighten me as to what I can do to fix this, Please explain in full, I don't want to just hear "You can't", If I can't, I want to know why I can't and some other people can.
Thanks, David

HI all,
I've been realizing lately that my Nexus 5 does just about everything I need anymore. I hardly ever need a PC for anything except for the full size monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
Now, I think I can use USB OTG and connect a Mouse and keyboard. But, is there a way to connect an external monitor as well?
I see that there is a Docking station for Samsung Galaxy phones that seem to do what I'm asking, here:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EDD-S20JWEGSTA
I've googled but cannot figure out if there is anything out there that would work for my Nexus 5. Does anyone have any suggestions?
externally powered USB hub. I used my friends once, had a hdmi output also and it worked flawlessly. (and by externally powered, i mean one that draws power from an outlet, not the phone itself)

One way to find out... could also just get a keyboard with built in mouse like this or find one of these.
For android 4.4.2 and up use Chromecast for video& audio with HDMI monitor with speakers and Bluetooth for keyboard and mouse. Need sw app Andromium OS and/or Kodi too.
My Windows 8.1 PC would not recognize my Shield Tab with the supplied USB cable. Charges fine, though. However, the Shield Tab is recognized with either cable from my Samsung Note 2 or LG G Pad 8.3.
Anyone else experience this? Looking for feedback before contacting Nvidia.
My tablet is not recognised on Linux either, whereas my nexus 7 2013 was. It did have Franco kernel installed, which might make it mount the file system better than stock.
I am able to see mine in windows and my linux vm

Actually, I stand corrected. My tablet is visible in LInux in MTP and PTP mode.
Have you tried the usual tricks about swapping USB sockets, and checking your Connected Hardware in Windows.
I also have USB Debugging on, if that makes a difference.
The Shield cable is the same as any other Micro USB cable, so if you have another one lying around for another phone, give it a go first before going to the hassle of contacting Nvidia.

Thanks. It's definitely a bad cable. I've tried USB cables from 3 other devices and the Shield tab is recognized by my PC with each of them.
