Many of you know that barlcays apps will not working on rooted handsets.
There are a number of work around's to resolve this issue, but it seams with every time they update there software, they also fix the loop holes.
Anyway let me get to the point.
I went mental, i guess you could say writing a thousand word email complaining and explaining how a rooted phone is more secure than an un-rooted phone, is a bit to far.....
Anyway i got a phone call from the development team at barclays, where i stressed my points further, they basicly said, they read the forums etc, and can see that a number of us are unhappy and still fail to understand why barclays apps are banned from rooted devices and other banks app are not....
They also said that they are looking into getting the app ,on rooted phones(but cant guarantee anything). (I kinda told them a jail broken IPhone is as about as secure as leaving your wallet on the floor) so i dont think they will be enabling for Jailbroken IPhone users just yet haha.
Sick of people controlling us if we want to root our phones and (an according to them) run the risk of loosing our bank details then thats our choice, thats almost like barclays saying, everyone leave your wallets at home because there is a chance you could loose it or get mugged!
So yeah i hope they fix this for us rooted bankers
Would appreciate a comment or two if you use the app (Just in case they ever stumble across this)
======Edit======
Maybe this needs to be moved outside of HOX since its a android related topic - Sorry didnt think
I'm with you
They are just losing business by not enabling in on rooted phones... some people have got it to work on rooted phones if you search a bit,.
But come on Barclays!! My other banking apps work fine.
When i purposely login to the halifax app and then disable the internet the window shows a link
to the content for online banking and appends a "jailbroken=yes" to its url android or ios is the same appendage.
but it still runs though...
Sorry if this question has been answered already, but I haven't found a recent (ie within a year) thread about this when I searched. I haven't rooted anything in years and I've just got a Galaxy Tab Pro and was looking into Rooting it. My friend who has an HTC One has also reached out to me asking me how to Root it.
When I started researching methods I kept running across articles that were stating that Rooting a device is now illegal? I've never heard of this before, is it true? Anyone have links to information that says otherwise?
No it's not but In most cases it will void your warranty. also most of the time you could always unroot your device. I used KingRoot to root my phone it's an app it was quick and simple.
Sent from my BLU STUDIO 7.0 II using XDA Free mobile app
It depends what you do with root. If you root it to "hack" or "snif" then you're doing a illegal thing. If you root it to costumise your Android then, you're not disturbing a privacy from another person or what else.
Hit the Thanks Button if I helped
You bought and own it. You can do what you like with it. Of course if it's a stolen phone and you're rooting it to mess with the IMEI, then that's another matter.
Does anyone have links to articles or information confirming this? Because all I can find are articles stating that it is illegal with the 2nd article below stating that "Tablets cannot be Rooted AT ALL" (*edit: apparently I can't post links yet)

I don't know what you have been reading, but it's wrong. Root is perfectly legal. My Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 are both rooted.
Where are you getting this information? That part of the internet should just go ahead and die.
well like I said, I can't post links yet because I'm still 'new' but if you just Google Root and Illegal a bunch of articles come up (some contradicting the others, which is why I was looking for a definitive answer from somewhere.)

I think you don't quite get how search engines (google) works: you can google illegal and pineapples, and get a bunch of articles.
The only issue with rooting would be that it breaks/voids warranty in most cases, and if your device was obtained on contract i.e. still technically the property of your provider, then rooting might be against the terms of service - the consequence of which varying depending on the provider.

I wasn't searching for it outright, I was actually searching for the pros and cons of rooting since my buddy was interested, and a couple of the articles I kept running into kept mentioning the illegality part. Since I can't post links I just suggested that one Google Root and Illegal since someone actually asked where I got my information. I figured it would be easier than explaining all this and then telling him to Google "Pros and Cons."
Obviously I know how a search engine works, no need for the passive aggressive comments - especially when you provide no other help than what was already said.

Sorry, wasn't meaning to sound that way, but your question is rather vague as there isn't one universal global law system - although arguably there should be for digital matters.
To fully answer there are several parts to look at; primarily does it violate local laws - in some cases it can be argued that it breaks copyright law. Additionally you need to question on if the 'broken law' is inforcable - inmost cases it is not and the said laws were made in a pre-digital age and haven't been updated to account for the current world. As an example - setting the wrong age (or a fake profile) on FB is technically illegal as it's against the TOS which is a legal document; but the proseccution of these lawbreakers isn't feasible or inforcable.
Although as i stated previously - this can be slightly different if the device isn't wholely owned by the user i.e. the device cost was covered by the network provider and essentially loaned to the user until the contract is over.
Fair enough - sorry to jump on you, so I guess to be more specific I was looking into the legality of Rooting devices that are out of contract in the US/Illinois. My friend's phone is older than 2 years well past his contract, and I bought a refurbished Wifi-only Galaxy Tab Pro which seems is stuck on Kit Kat for now.
I'm mainly looking to Root to turn off my back button and gain write access to my external SD card (as well as remove bloat) but the Wifi-tether I was finding in articles seems intriguing. Although that seems like if anything that came from Rooting would be illegal that would be it (and bootlegging paid apps of course.)

You can easily bootleg paid apps without root, so don't think that rooting is opening up the phone to the "dark side" of Android.
Rooting devices is not illegal anywhere in the US. It does, however, void your warranty and if you were to trade in the device for credit towards a new one they will likely not take it and force you to pay the difference.
But if you own the device outright (not on contract or paid full price), it is yours and you can do anything you like with it. You can root it, you can smash it with a hammer, or you can bake it into a cake. The possibilities are endless.
Even if you don't "own it" outright yet (i.e. are on a 2 year contract or pay monthly installments) you can still modify the device in any way as long as you finish your contract/agreement.
As long as you don't use root access to do illegal things, it's perfectly fine. Root itself is harmless.
So I was able to successfully get root access, followed all the steps and what not, and am on a rooted phone now, including following the additional steps for option 2. My question now is, why is substratum asking me to purchase the Samsung addon, since I am on a rooted phone? I would think that since I am now rooted, I wouldn't need this, and could use substratum normally like any other rooted Android phone. Could someone who has more knowledge than myself, explain this to me? I am new to the rooting scene as well as android. Used to be an Apple fan, and would jailbreak my phones, but switched to the S8+ and rooted. Thanks for anyone who can provide a little insight.
[Basic terms, am tired] From my understanding, something separate had to be developed to overtake the Samsung Themes engine, essentially disabling it so substratum can actually do its job. Time and effort was put into this development, and the dev felt they deserved some compensation for their hard work. It is required for substratum to work on our device, because the Samsung theme engine would take priority over any mod, due to how touchwiz is coded(I think). $1.99 seems, to me, a small price to pay, especially when some methods of rooting alone cost $10.
Hello everyone. I decided to start this thread so we would have a new outlet to discuss root, not having it, and anything else that pertains to rooting the US Snapdragon variant (or any locked bootloader Snapdragon for that matter).
I for one do like root on Samsung devices. I feel that the services, logging, etc that Samsung puts on these phones is at best excessive, at worst, a violation of privacy. I use root o disable these services and anything that I don't believes warrants running in the background.
I also like to use host level ad blocking which can only be done with root (AFAIK).
So, the poll asks the question...
Do you want root?
Feel free to discuss anything root related in this thread.
Please be respectful of others opinions!
I personally love flashing custom roms on my android devices and that's the main reason I want root on this device. There was a thread before but it got locked, apparently we only have like 1 person working on root and that was then - don't know if that has since changed. I personally don't know much about the process and don't even know where to begin learning how to accomplish something like this. I offered help before but was quickly informed there was nothing I can do to "help" without vast amounts of this type of knowledge.

Can this be related to any type of exploit for root?

Since your a recognized developer you just might be the person we need. If you have the time that is. I wasn't really into rooting this phone but now I have the itch too. Lol
Nope, the only reason I used to root on all my phones was to get rid of the ads. Now with apps available to do the same, I don't feel the need to root.
I want root for xposed and/or magisk.
Otherwise to disable packages I use adhell 3 (no root needed) as I don't want to trip Knox yet...

Yes... I want to have control over the device. for privacy, customization, optimization, TWRP/Titanium backups, remove silly warnings, extend device life post mfg support, etc
Imagine buying a car and not being able to open up the hood........................................ total BS........

Hey Guy, please don't post nonsense in my thread. You have no clue who is working on what. You pretend like you some sort of developer and you know how to crack this system but when I asked you what you accomplished or even looked at you didn't really seam to have a clue. Also, someone working on root doesn't talk about it... They just do it.
All of your posts in that thread were atrocious. You are a very rude, ill mannered person that lacks any communication skills.
So please... Stop posting rude, unneeded comments in this thread!

Just because I'm telling you want you don't want to hear, doesn't mean I'm being rude. Did I call you any names? No I did not. I have been EXTENSIVELY working on rootting our device. Me and several (14) others started in telegram about a week or two after the device was released. Over time people left for Exynos, gave up, or went for other devices, leaving it to just me. And now I have moved on.
I'm letting you know that there are NO KNOWN BIG Devs working on rooting the snapdragon S9+. Is there someone working on it silently, that isn't known to this community/others, or has no previous exploit releases? I can't speak for that. I can speak for myself and others who were working on it, we are on to other projects now.
We put well over 200+ hours into it. Again, there's no way to fully "write up" what we all tried....We did all the OBVIOUS, and MORE. I have more important things to do with my time, than to write you a report as to what we did. Be glad you got this much of an explanation. The root was that much of a concern to you you would have been in the boat (telegram chat) since the beginning. Good luck on root, and good luck finding any andvanced developers to work on it for you.
TLDR: Keep praying for "Joe Schmo" to release root for you guys. There are absolutely zero WELL KNOWN developers working on it. SORRY IF IT'S BLUNT AND NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR.
And to OP.. Prove me wrong.

I use Samsung Pay as my primary means of payment on a daily basis so much that if it wasn't for needing a physical drivers licenses I would just leave my wallet at home at this point. If Root breaks Samsung Pay then it's not something I would want.

Thats a real good point! I feel the same way. I have been thinking alot about a digital D/L that would be stored on your phone. If that could happen, I would no longer need a wallet. I think all but one of my credit and debit cards are on Samsung Pay.
I do really love rooting most specially for blocking ads, since non root adblocker used VPN to omit ads which compare to root can be easily add via hosts file without additional software/task (which obviously draining additional battery). also my wifi tools can be run via root only. and wanted to do more and it is only possibe via rooted phone.
though there is a rooting method already in here but seems i cant keep up on that much besides I cant use any pc for now. is rooting like flashing zip file possible as what older devices can be easily did? or way more easier rooting method than currently in here is way much better.
thanks

Root is a must! Phones these days are like computers and when I pay $$$ for a flagship phone, I expect I get "full control" over my device. Samsung Pay is "nice to have" but Viper for audio, Adaway, Titanium backup, TWRP are a must to enjoy my device to its full extent.
Hello, I am on the official rom. Since rooting Google pay and Samsung pass stopped working, I tried everything. Is there a ROM that could fix Samsung apps (they're nice for biometrics in banking apps)? Also Google pay isn't working which is a pain and a half.
Knox and it's evil micro efuse are at the core firmware/hardware level of these devices. It's a tough order to bypass them.
Some have gotten at least some of the functionality back. Some solutions used for specific apps or on older models may be helpful to you.
Try multiple google searches with XDA in the search parameters.
I tried googling but no luck

There are multiple threads about it here on XDA.
I run across them from time to time. I'm not rooted so they are only a curiosity to me.
Google search is probably the most effective way to find things on XDA. " your search, XDA" usually does the trick. Try different search words and phrases, keep it simple.
what should I try? Knox fix xda?

Yeah I knew it, I am only having issues with Samsung pass and Google pay
Rooted With Working Samsung Pay
Is this even possible?
forum.xda-developers.com
from what I understand googel pay gives no buyer protection for anything for any reason with the exception for a very short time refund on apps purchased because it benifts them to lure people into using their payment for apps, but why would anyone be concerned or want to use this over any other cash app?
I don't know about spam pay although I would guess they are the same kinda people. I would root just to rid my phone if these soulless (if that's a word lol) corporations money apps
