Should Google censor searches for "app name" apk?

Google has a history of censoring some searches. You can read about it here.

They could easily make any search containing the term "apk" come up with zero results.
Yet they allow searching for paid apks this way.
Should they?

Google shouldn't censor anything. First comes apk's, next torrents, and then sites which Google doesn't like.
It's the matter of people mentality if they pay for apps or not, not the matter of censoring something.

Censorship is never the right answer.

Every search site censors based on your search history even politics can be one sided when you search for something I forgot exactly how they do it but g4 did a story on it awhile back

Yeah, it's also some kind of censorship.
It's based on complicated as hell algorithm connected with cookies system, even what you click on googleAds is influenting your search results order, but doesn't censor anything. Hopefully...

This is how I feel. I was hoping to get more responses before revealing that. I originally posted this in general discussion hoping to get a million responses. Sadly it got moved to this forum which seems to be mostly used for technical questions.

Google's just a search-engine. I don't want it to choose what I WANT to see and what I DON'T want to see. I think the same mindset applies to every other user. I doubt if this will help any user at all, except their own goal.
Now, what they should censor (or block) are the content farms spamming my Google search results. I'll be more than happy to let you choose that.

I think Google should do whatever it wants, and the market can react accordingly. I stopped using google several months ago for this reason. Try DuckDuckGo.

Yeah, pretty sure the author who wrote that was an idiot. I don't see how this could be anything but good. The same way that the Kindle Fire pushed Google to release the Nexus 7, I can only see this causing other manufacturers to come out with even better and more competitively priced smartphones.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the OP.
First of all, like @_MetalHead_ has pointed out, what does this have to do with the One X directly? Answer: Not enough to post it in the HOX forum.
Second, the phrase "destroy Android"? The Amazon phone will probably be running Android so I don't know how that would work, since Amazon has an App Store of their own for Android Apps. Even the article the OP links to states what this phone will target: Low-end price point, Brick-n-Mortar stores, and manufacturers. Not software.

probably gonna be along the same lines and the facebook phone and the firefox phone. Even the revamped MeeGo project. Sure they will have their share of competition with android and will have their own little cult followings, but I don't think that there will be anything in the near future that will gain significant ground on Android.

Google maps now released for iOS - does it look better?

Just a poll. Just downloaded google maps on iOS and it is AMAZING. It looks really polished and feels really smooth. My question is does it look better than the Android one? Pick a side!

I don't know why Google gave them turn by turn navigation. I read before that was the reason apple made their own maps; because Google would not include navigation for free after spending so much money into their mapping software.

I think Google is playing a bigger picture, where they want everyone to use and custom to their Map app. Basically they said, there is only one map for mobil phones and tablets and it's GOOGLE MAP.

Think of all the iPhone users out there. They would be losing a huge base of they didn't do this. Remember the old saying.. "keep your friends close but your enemies closer."

I don't know how this poll can be conducted if the majority of members here are Galaxy S3 users who most likely don't have an iPhone. Furthermore, I don't see any reason for this to be here. Who cares.

The explanation I heard was that Apple was making the map app with Google data, but Google's licenses with their map data providers prohibited them from sharing real-time turn by turn direction data with third parties.

One of the reasons I sold my iPhone 4S was because Apple Maps were awful. Now that Google has released their Maps app for iOS, I might be willing to pick up another iPhone in the future (but I'd never go strictly iPhone...I'll always have an Android-based phone).
I'm a little ticked that Google admits the iOS version is "better" than the Android version, although it wouldn't surprise me to see an update in the Play Store soon to bring the Android version in line with the iOS version. Still, you'd think they'd do that BEFORE releasing it to iOS, if for no other reason than to not piss off their base of Android users.
While it's a smart move for Google overall (to re-widen their base of Google Maps users to include iPhone users again), it's not exactly showing the biggest girth of loyalty to people that have adopted their platform. I hope they'll fix that soon.

I think the reason is because they know the Android people have no intention of switching, but they know that the iPhone people might be willing to switch. Its sort of ironic really...they are trying to get them to switch, but make an awesome maps on the iphone.
And I posted this here because I know a lot of people who have ipads and Androids, so i thought at least some people would have an ios device. Second of all, i put screenshots in the OP.

Not sure if it had anything to do with third parties. Google wanted full control of the app, with their name on it. When apple refused, Google then refused to supply extra features like turn by turn and street view.

New Maps and Gmail look better on iOS. Google is testing out the new UI there first and I hope it comes to Android fast.
On online forums deluded iFans are now claiming this is another reason to choose iPhone since it has better maps - how stupid can they get??

Wow.

Also Google made sure their new Maps runs on all iPhones and iOS versions. Not like Apple with their lies and forcing people to buy a new phone just to get new features in software. And Google is helping users on a competitor. When was the last time Apple helped anyone? They even laugh at their own user's problems.
I wish Google had taken this opportunity to poke some fun at Apple and ridicule their crap software in iOS. It would be a good way to increase Android share.

So Google gave apple the updated maps first? No matter what.. Apple always gets stuff first lol. Even when it comes to Google.

Unlock Bootloader Petition

This was posted in another thread but I don't think many people saw it because it didn't have its own thread and a lot of people asked for it to have its own thread. It's been a while and no one else went ahead to make a new thread so I thought I might as well do it.

It's pretty unlikely that this will make a difference as they've been doing this for a while with no penalty but its worth a shot. If enough people sign it we could at least get some attention towards this. So for the love of Android (and our hate for Verizon) take a minute and sign this and get as many people to sign it as possible even if your not a Verizon s6 user help some fellow Android users out.

That sounds like it would be a good idea. Do you know how to do that? The nice thing about change.org is it gets a bunch of people to sign it and back you so there's a greater chance of it being heard. But it there's a way to make a direct complaint that could be better though they may just ignore it.
